Hi,
I used "Ok Google" detection perfectly with another assistant app (Greenify, needs it for long press home button action).
But then the home screen calendar notifications got stuck and I had to reset Google App.
Since then it doesn't work anymore.
I can setup Google assistant perfectly, "Ok Google" detection works and all.
But when I set Greenify as default assistant it Google assistant starts misbehaving.
First it does not work at all anymore. I can select only "Basic voice recognition" the option for "Google" is greyed out.
Then when I change back to Google assistant as default and back again to Greenify. Suddenly "Ok Google" detection works.
Still it's basic recognition and Google is greyed out. Problem is now the assistant activates multiple times (I get the activation sound) and basically just a transparent overlay opens but nothing more happens.
I have no idea how to fix this. I feel I tried everything up until now. Especially everything you find on multiple guides on google pages.
I wouldn't mind if it didn't work before, so I know it definitely should work!
@DarsVaeda
Prevent Greenify to send Google Assistant to sleep ( put it into Doze mode ).

Thanks, but unfortunately that's exempted already.
I managed to get it back.
I uninstalled all updates to the Google app.
Then disabled and force stopped it.
Restarted.
Then I choose Greenify as assistant. No voice was available.
Then I reactivated Google app. Now it was available as voice.
Then I updated the app and restarted.
It now is back as assistant but Greenify still has the home button.
Stupid it has to be this complicated!

All of a sudden Google voice is not responding verbally with responses. I get links to web pages in my browser, but no verbal reply. I checked my Google voice settings and "Speech Output" is set to "ON". I am using Nova Pro launcher, if that matters. Any suggestions on how I can get this to work properly again?
Thanks
Okay, verify you've checked the obvious.

Cleared cache on Google search app?
I use Google assistant on my Android on a daily basis, with the tap of a button - to get directions, make a phone call, send a text, open an app, etc. However, my 10-yr-old son has figured out that he can bypass my password-protected browser apps (such as Chrome) by doing web/video searches directly on Google assistant. For reasons that I won't get into here, it is imperative that I prevent his unauthorized access to the internet. However, I don't wish to bury Google assistant under a password or a lock screen, on account of how often I use it for all sorts of other stuff. IS THERE A WAY TO DISABLE WEB SEARCHES FROM THE GOOGLE APP, OR TO FORCE THE APP TO DEFER TO THE CHROME APP FOR THOSE SEARCHES?
I do have a rooted device, if that helps.
I am having the same issue with the Cortana assistant app on my Android as well. If I could get either Cortana or Google Assistant to block web searches, I'd be happy.
Hello,
Despite the fact that the ok google option is disabled in the google application settings and also disabled in the googe assistant settings, ok google functions when the screen is on.
I emptied the app cache but nothing changes.
Do you have the same problem?
I'm very confused what the google assistant app is for if google assistant works perfectly with just the "google" app.
I do mean everything works.
-Clock assistant routine
-unlock phone with hey google hotword
-etc...
Anyone know what purpose the google assistant app is for?
I don't know exactly when this happened but I cannot anymore Launch the Google Assistant uaing voice. Did Google also disable this feature since the last update?
