Title.
Bump.
I would like an answer to this question as well.
Moto G Power and Moto G8 Power are physically different phones.
Hopefully software / firmware is similar so the procedure of rooting would work on both models.
I'd still like to confirm with professionals to make sure the devices are not getting bricked.
Here's the reference article (comments section): https://www.gsmchoice.com/en/catalogue/motorola/motog8power/
'Thanks to your comment I learned that XT2041-4; XT2041-6; XT2041-7; XT2041-DL = Moto G Power, XT2041-1; XT2041-3 = Moto G8 Power. - Thank you.'

i would like an answer too, but so far i have a ( plausible) explanation.
When i got this device ( i was one of the first) , there was only a forward to this forum on the g(8) power
all other existing forums pointed out to the g7-power , which was not my phone...
somewhere along the line, they started referencing the "Moto g8 power" as "Moto G Power" , and this forum was changed accordingly.
motorola only talks about "moto g power" in the US ,I cannot find any web-shop that sells the "moto g power" here in the Netherlands
if i search for "moto g power" i get those results:

even the website of motorola here in the netherlands references it as a 8g power
if i use a US based ip i don't find the name g8-power
So far it looks like they tried to create a different phone for different locations.
g8 power = europe = sofiar
g power = US = Sofia
but basically the hardware is the same.
just for the fun of it; find the difference:
Is there anywhere a forum for modding the g8 power lite? Sorry if OT
From what I've found, it seems like the "G Power" is the US version with 3GB/32GB, and the "G8 Power" is the rest-of-the-world-version with 4GB/64GB.
I'm considering a G8 Power, if there's community support for ROMs and such.

I found a review for G8 Power that said wifi and bluetooth can't be used at the same time. Can anyone comment on whether or not that's actually correct?

There is also a 4gb/64gb G Power, as well, which is the device I have. From what I've gathered, all the roms available are universal between the G8 Power and G Power. All of the issues I see people posting about seem to be related to the G8 Power, which they're currently working on fixing according to the telegram for the G/8 Power. Everything aside from hotspot is working flawlessly on all of the Roms available on the G Power, but the G8 Power seems to have issues with TWRP, hotspot, vibration, and I think a few other things. Every ROM I've tried even shows my G Power AS a G8 Power.
The G8 Power Lite uses a mediatek chipset so no Roms available on this forum will work for it.
So if I get a G8 Power, it should work fine with any G Power custom ROMs and recoveries?
Any way to speculate about when Bliss, Evolution-X, or CR-Droid may be available for it? Or any other suggestions for comparable ROMs.

There are issues related to the G8 Power. I've seen people report that the touchscreen isn't working in TWRP. Vibration and hotspot isn't working on ROMs (hotspot isn't working in the G Power, either), and you have to manually enable the screen overlay in Roms with the G8 Power.
CR is already available and I'm assuming it's just a matter of time before RR comes to XDA. I'm running RR that was posted in the G8 telegram on my G Power and it's running well.
Since we aren't able to resize the system partition, pico is the only gapps package that seems to work on Roms that don't include gapps.
I'm wondering now, should I grab a G7 Power while I can get a good deal? Or should I wait for these issues to be resolved with the G8 Power?
I'm ok with pico-gapps or a ROM w/ gapps. Maybe even no gapps.

Biggest problem with the 8th gen (including US G power) is the build quality, more precisely the lack of gorilla glass. Both me and my gfs phone are cracked lol. Curved glass SUCKS. The iPhone 12 is probably going to be a very solid phone in the long run (look at its construction if you haven't seen it)
And you NEEEEEEEED A BORDER TO HOLD A PHONE HOLY **** THAT'S ANNOYING!

I thought the G8 Power had a full bezel… No?
Even on phones with "tough" glass, I always use a glass screen protector. Is that not an option with the G8 Power?
Is this a concern that should push me towards grabbing a G7 Power, while I can?
fwiw, my every-day phone is about 3 years old, and it does not have any tough glass. I replaced the screen-protector on it once, after the glue started to get old, and it still looks almost new.

I had a glass screen protector. the thing doesn't even ****ing fit, I mean seriously, half an inch of SHARP GLASS edge everywhere! and the g power and g8 power seem identical on that part really, maybe there's more plastic lip on the g8 but the glass is still not flat on the edges, which is the only flaw. and the cases are SLIGHTLY different which is mind boggling, like why even bother?!
and what is your phone? most phones have gorilla glass but if it's not curved it's MUCH MUUUUUUCH more solid. I split a blackberry PRIV with a small drop because of that stupid curved glass, it's game over if it falls right on a curved side
I don't get it… I'm watching a few videos - https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=moto+g8+power+screen+protector - and it looks like flat glass on the G8 Power.
Me and my kid both have Redmi 5A phones, both with glass screen protectors. His screen is smashed up, but my phone still looks new.
Right now the only three things that are holding me back from grabbing a G8 Power:
No water resistance rating
No local retailers (which translates to no local warranty support… but also cheaper purchase price)
No official releases of any ROMs that I want
I'm in the US, I gifted a Moto G (8) power to my son. It is the 4/64 configuration. He hasn't done too much with it yet, although I want to point out that it does not offer you the opportunity to 'configure as internal' an SD card. I wasn't able to manually (via USB-debugging) configure an SD card this way either... so it appears that this feature isn't supported. I have a post elsewhere about this, asking if anyone else has specific experience with this model, as advice for older models does not apply.
I was handling his phone quite a bit while I tried to configure different SD cards and I didn't notice any issues with the touchscreen or with handling. To my knowledge he hasn't tried setting up a hot-spot or played with the camera much.

i'm really, really enjoying this tf201+dock. the battery life is sick. the cpu is a beast that hauls on exynos 4210, and that was the hottest ARM SoC ever. it's running the best android software available for a tablet right now, which is seriously underrated. it's the best dedicated gmail and gtalk clients available, it's got one of the fastest and most compliant mobile browsers for any tablet. it's easily rootable. and holy crap did i mention it has a real keyboard.
so yeah, this will get pried out of my dead hands, or tossed whenever the real transformer comes out.. whichever comes first. i can't wait to ditch this if the real deal ever actually hits, because this one is just the cheap gobot knockoff of what a dockable android tablet should be.
how is it a knockoff? go look at the exacto thread, or the vulcan pinch poll, or any of the numerous "none of this crap works, is that normal?" threads we enjoyed for the first 6 weeks of the tf201s release. these units are stitched together like the $40 "louis vuitton" bags sold on lexington avenue with upside-down "L"s.
i'm "lucky" because my unit doesn't have the big problems, but even a "perfect" tf201 is a near-constant reminder of what this product would be if it was made by the right company. i noticed one of the reviews posted here made the point that "the ipad2 wins in having better power and volume buttons". who the hell cares about power buttons? what matters is tegra3, right? well, it turns out that the power and volume buttons on the tf201 suck. they're hard to feel for, hard to press. and then you realize there is no "wake up" key on the keyboard. (please, someone make my day and tell me a secret key combo to wake up the tablet screen.) but there isn't, so you find yourself looking for that little power nub over, and over again, until asus punishes you into knowing intimately how bad of a power button you have and f*ck you for buying it.
and i think it all really just boils down to this being asus, a company with an already long history of ripping off other taiwanese manufacturers (hello, gigabyte) and trying to differentiate by dressing it up with lipstick and trademarked BIOS features. i bet asus engineers were saddened when they learned there was no centerpiece HEATSINK to decorate on the tf201. asus does not slave over the perfection of products and release them with an id-style, "when it's done" pomp. asus hammers out products like M&Ms, spraying the public with buckshot and knowing that some will hit. there is literally zero history of any fundamental innovation coming from this company until the tf101. the first detachable/dockable android tablet with battery in dock. how did that happen? because lenovo is making theirs after, not before asus. was it an accident? mistake?
now imagine a world where transformers the toys, the tv show, the awesome 80s movie with that weird-al yankovic song, all of it never existed. and then along came GOBOTS. well, they'd be pretty cool. and you'd play with them. until the real transformers came out, and optimus prime's head transformed into another robot that punched leader-1 in the face.
typed on my gobot prime

Uncheck MobileDock Battery saving mode in Asus Customized settings
This will drain more power when asleep though
The Transformer Prime is more of a Megazord.
Ahh, another hater. There are plenty of web-sites for you to sell your gobot and buy an iPad.
There is a unlock button on the keyboard dock atard.
Really, what would that button on the top right do?

the top right button puts the tablet to sleep (and locks it if you use a lock). that's why that picture of the lock is closed.
for keyboard wakeup it appears there are two modes: either none of the keys wake it up, or all of the keys wake it up. as a previous commenter mentioned this is defined by the "MobileDock battery saving mode" setting, which you obviously have enabled as this allowed you to rationalize that a closed padlock means "unlock".
there isn't much reason why asus couldn't have made an unlock key, or at least not a very good one. the dock has its own battery. a key could have been wired to turn on its power while in battery save mode, just like every laptop ever.
i hate to troll but....

I typically refrain from contributing to pathetic rants and crybaby posts because ultimately all they want is the attention from these kinds of posts. And responding to their over indulged tantrum in either a logical response or sarcastic whip only results in an escalating flaming contest. But I'm just sick of coming to this forum for useful information and only seeing another copy an paste complaint from one of the other hundred waisted space posts.
My TFP is the best f**KING super computer I have ever owned. combined with the dock, I can do things I never thought possible from an android OS. It has become my laptop allowing me remote access to the rest of my environment, my media center, my entry point to the digital world, a video phone for long distant family, and it functions in a hundred other ways that has improved my life. It's the damn swiss army knife of tablets.
For all who read this, I'm on XDA to better myself by learning how to use and improve the technology I own. I'm not hear to "listen" to you whine. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
Go somewhere else to have your pity-party. Leave XDA for useful contributors and those looking to learn.

Well, with Honeycomb that was indeed true, but with ICS I also could unlock my Prime with it?
When my Tablet is attached to the dock I lock it with the upper right key. To unlock it, I slide over the touchpad, screen goes on and then press the "lock"-key to get to my homescreen.
Battery saving Mode is on I guess, because waking it up with keys don't work.
I don't know, but is that your problem?

this is interesting because my touchpad definitely isn't waking up the tablet, with or without the battery saving mode enabled.
are you running HC or ICS? and out of curiosity, what is your MobileDock version in Settings > About tablet? mine is TF201-DOCK-0206.

Hmm. Which is worse? Those starting new threads to discuss issues already documented? Or those pretending that the hundreds (maybe thousands by now) of issue posts including three home page stickies from the manufacturer themselves don't exist because their Prime is purportedly "perfect?" So hard to decide.

Just came out on the 31st so yeah definitely within my return/exchange period.
I want to get another one but f'crying out loud, it's a 4 day old phone and already has a broken part!
Well...it is the first batch of production...lol, I never hold my breath for those. It is not an LG v10 issue...seems more device specific or we will have a whole lot of broken power buttons by now. So just exchange it...if your return is too close and you hate it, can still move to note 4. Great news is even if it breaks later, assuming you got jump...tmobile will replace it.
No issues with power button for me, lol. Sure it's an isolated issue. i would exchange it

My V10 power button feels wiggly/mushy. It also sucks at reading fingerprints. Only 1 out of 5 attempts go through. Imagine how long it takes me to train a fingerprint.
I also have an iPhone 6S+. The finger print reader on that is flawless.

This can be interesting you don't really power button except you have to turn off or restart the phone, or use the fingerprint sensor.

Nah. I probably just have a faulty unit. When I initially set up my fingeprint at the store it worked decently. Two hours later I was having trouble unlocking my phone. I confirmed it by trying to train another finger. It seems to only work reliably with my finger TIP. It's not a big enough issue for me to swap units. Atleast not until I get my 200GB memory card from LG!
It keeps telling me to cover the power button with my finger during setup.
I hardly ever press the power button except to turn the phone on/off. I double tap the screen to wake and just slightly place my finger over the scanner to unlock it..
Just as an update, exchanged it for another V10. We shall see how it goes.

Whooa bro, that's a tad harsh. These phones are made in labs with people making very little under conditions most would not even consider.
Just cause you paid a lot, doesn't mean all of the devices shipped will be perfect. Be happy you can replace it, enjoy the new one, if it breaks spend you money with another manufacturer.
It's not harsh towards anyone here really. What's the point of having a brand new device with a broken anything on it? Regardless of how little one uses it, no reason not to exchange it. Why settle for broken? Regardless of price, it's brand new and under warranty.

Had written a stupid long rant on consumerism. Decided against it; the thread has fulfilled it's purpose can a mod close it, please?
To the question about the note 4 instead of the V10, I'll post my experience. I lost my note 4 when switching from Sprint to T-Mobile. Sprint couldn't undo the lock they put on the sum card slot. Yes I know a very trusted developer on this site had a solution and I would have probably gone that way if the phone would have been compatible with T-Mobiles 4g network. That being said, I feel like I'm enjoying this phone a little more than the note 4. Partly because I'm not a fan of touchwiz or Knox. (also the reason I didn't get another note 4). In synthetics this phone performs a little slower, by only a few points. However in actual use it feels snappier and more comfortable to hold. But that last one could simple be attributed to the case. The camera was what ultimately drew me to this phone. While the output is roughly the same as my note 4, the note 4 lacks manual controls and raw output. As I use my phone to supplement my dlsr in 90% of my life, I really wanted those features. Double tap to wake is also an improvement over the note 4 As well as the buttons on the back and the finger print sensor. With the note 4 you have to swipe and it was horribly innacurate. Or maybe too accurate, either way I would have to swipe multiple times quite frequently. There are really only 2 things I miss from the note 4, the pen and the ability to use the Gear VR. I looked like a cool and my wife didn't want to sit next to me, but your own personal movie theater on plane trips is beyond convenient. I can do without the pen, I mostly used it for partial screen captures or the OCR text reading function for converting recipes to digital files. But As this is Android I'm sure when the time comes I can find equivalent software (Microsoft lens comes to mind. ) overall I will buy another note 4, probably used once the prices come down for the express purpose of watching movies. But for my daily Phone and pocket camera, I can't really beat the V10. Also V10 is 64bit. Hopefully that means something down the road, but note 4 is 64but running as 32bit. Lol another thought, I was also disappointed with Samsung when they released their note 5, and then updated the software on the note 4 for 5.1.1. The display of the note 5 is only different in software. I even had the note 5 tom running on my note 4 for a time and it looked identical. So Samsung has purposely left the note 4 With a higher DPI and old touchwiz to increase sales for their new flagship, I can't blame them, if the note 4 came with the note 5 software, I'm sure a lot of people would opt for the better looking touchwiz with sd card and removable battery and it would have cut into sales of the note 5.
Where ever i read three are several people going through all sorts of issues with G5. Iam currently waiting for mine but all these QC issues are really starting to make me worried.
Now i am not sure wether to go ahead or cancel my pre order.
Mine is flawless. Looks perfect, no headphone issues, wifi calling works. I guess I haven't looked at screen bleed but don't really care about that. Haven't noticed any screen bloom.

True, I dont see people complaining about iphone quality that much.
But all things aside, I am hoping that UK dont get that many defective units since we have stricter QC measure in place.
Like most things, people dont bother to write unless they have a complaint. So im sure for every complaint you hear there are a hundred happy people. I have had mine since release day and the only thing i am dissapointed in is the volume buttons being on the side(which i all ready knew).

Glad to hear u are happy with your G5.
As for the volume control I am glad that they decided to put it on the side, since its easier for me to skip tracks easily while phone is in my pocket but with my G3 i have to really search for it and most of the times i would just hit the power button or camera lens
Camera lens scratched already.
I've had the phone since April 1st and i've been very happy with, however i just noticed that my Camera's glass cover in the back is already scratched. I have a case on the phone and I've been very careful with the phone. I'm very disappointed and annoyed that this got scratched up so easily! has anyone else noticed this? just seems like a very cheap material in the back. Is there any protector i can buy or will it distort the image?

As for the volume control I am glad that they decided to put it on the side, since its easier for me to skip tracks easily while phone is in my pocket but with my G3 i have to really search for it and most of the times i would just hit the power button or camera lens

I feel the same. Although it was kinda fun trying to find the right button before!

I've had the phone since April 1st and i've been very happy with, however i just noticed that my Camera's glass cover in the back is already scratched. I have a screen proctor on the phone that doesn't cover this part, but i've been very careful with the phone. I'm very disappointed and annoyed that this got scratched up so easily! has anyone else noticed this? just seems like a very cheap material in the back. Is there any protector i can buy or will it distort the image?

That sucks. I'm pretty certain I saw a case on Amazon that covers the camera as well. Yes, it must distort the photo a LITTLE but hopefully not much. Maybe it was the Lifeproof case?

Looks like you dont have a case on your phone, and since G5 has a camera bump it is bound to get scratched when left on a hard surface.

Keep your order. It'll be worth it for you trust me. Got mine from ee today. Absolutely amazing phone and in perfect condition with amazing build quality.
I've been very happy with the build quality of mine (had it since Wednesday), moving from a Nexus 5X the quality is in such a higher league in my opinion. So I am very happy. If build quality is your only concern I wouldn't worry, like others have said for every one complaint there will of been many more who have been fine! The phone (at least in the UK anyway) comes with a 2 year warranty (one year for the battery) so that has to go some way in showing that LG believe tha5 the build quality of the phone will last at least that amount of time. I've only got one problem so far which is that the camera, on both the normal and wide angle (although more noticeable on the wide angle) seems to distort massively, almost as though you are shooting through a plastic protective cover. Although I've picked at the camera it doesn't appear one was on it out of the box and I don't want to try too much harder in case it isn't and it is just a terrible software bug that it causing it! The camera in the 5X has been amazing in low light and this feels a bit of a deal breaker for me personally (the camera is the main feature even above battery). Has anyone else had to remove some a plastic cover from the camera after taking it out the box?

M8 i would just take it back and replace it, no point in taking a chance.
My G5 is flawless and looks amazing.
Got mine 4-1-16 and have had zero issues. No light bleed no calling or headphone jax issues no gaps and some say that the side ring or whatever around the phone is like sharp or something mine is not. Some people are saying the battery life sucks but mine is great i get 5 to 5.5 hours screen on time. Also if the screen is off over 8 hours like if i dont charge at night i get maybe 5 to 8% drop at most.
My suggestion is when you get your phone if you see anything wrong like sharp edges gaps light bleed go and exchange for a new one. I think I heard Lg has multiple plants manufacturing the phone and one of them must be effing up big time. I got mine at best buy so I dunno if that makes a difference
I've heard more complaints with the build quality of this phone than with any other in recent memory.
Yes, some may be nitpicky, but for a damn near $700 device, we're allowed to be picky.
I'm not saying it's a bad device, I'm just going by what I've been researching/seen instore. It sounds like it performs like a Champ but you may have to go through a few to get a solid built one.

HTC 10 hehe
Well that was a very tough release to watch online.
The biggest question I have is how is that screen when compared to a note 8. Also, have they improved the software experience?
Considering they cheaped out on the Pro screen because of "performance and battery life", it will not match up to the Note 8.
I'm a disappointed that the Mate 10/ Pro will not be having the dual sim and a dedicated micro sd card feature.
I have lost hope that the industry has a clue about smartphones that make sense. They introduce useless hardware/software features and bloated OSes and instead of sticking to the basics they rely on cunsumers' stupidity/weakness and on deteriorating the UI so that StupidPhones are enforced.
All I wanted (not from Huawei) was a Samsung Note 3 with modern hardware (better CPU, recent WiFi/Bluetooth, better DAC/camera/stylus/screen, more robust body, etc). User replaceable battery that lasts, capacitive and non-cheap-feeling physical buttons, dual sim, SDCard, 3.5mm jack, mate-finish, wireless charging, USB-C, OIS, h/w and s/w to support note taking with a stylus, IR, open bootloader, etc is my thing, not shiny/reflective backs, bezeless designs, selfies cameras that try to outsmart you, OS/apps that are spyware, ...
Nobody will deliver, my only chance is to become rich and get a company to build a proper phone for me.
Pro is nonsense of a phone and I won't go into any details on it, but non-pro (Mate 10) is quite good except for the glossy finish. I love the fact that at least one major phone producer has kept the 16:9 aspect ratio going. This is the first "new" phone which actually would feel like upgrade screen size wise when coming from a 5.5"+ capacitive button phone like OP5/P10+ because here you actually get to use those 5.9 inches fully and you are not cheated with them ****ing on screen buttons, rounded corners, fat side bessels, black bars on video playback or missing parts of video due to zoom-ins/cropped videos (samsungs solution @18:9.5 aspect ratio when on youtube for example).
So this feature (16:9 and option to remove on screen buttons and use home button with gestures (tap to get back, hold for home, swipe for recents) alone makes Mate 10 stand out. Unfortunately 18:9/9.5 aspect ratio seems a trend that is likely to stay.
18:9/9.5 IMO opinion was the easiest way for producers to lure consumers into buying supposedly larger phones, where actually many older 5.5" (above 70% screen to body ratio) phones with capacitive buttons offer more screen real estate than for example that hot-dog looking 5.8" phone with on screen buttons and rounded corners.
IMO, the right way was to maximize efforts and try to create the biggest possible beze-less screen on a 16:9 aspect ratio screen and this is what Huawei has tried with Mate 10, so cheers to them! If it wasn't for that shiny glossy back cover I would run to Huawei factory to get one
i think Huawei missed an opportunity to go top of the pile. YES on battery, YES on specs (mostly - why did they drop MicroSD?), yes on Camera, but a big NO on screen resolution. Of course, if they charge $700 then its a big win, but if pricing is close to Pixel XL2 or Note 8 then I cant understand why anyone would go for a device with lower resolution that will devalue worse than any other device out there. im disappointed.
Bezel less display, 4000mha battery, Oled screen 128GB storage, monthly updates, Ir Blaster i'm stoked for the 10 pro!
I think the standard 10 is what ive been looking for.
6 inches of 16:9 screen is exactly what ive been looking for in a flag ship since my nexus 6. Not a fan of the 18:9.
The only thing i have not been able to find out is whether they kept the "stereo" speakers working like on the mate 9. Both bottom firing and ear piece for media.
I couldn't watch the entire launch..they really need to get someone with a better command of the English language. He was very difficult to understand for me.
A for effort however and doing a big presentation like that in a language which is not your native one must be extremely difficult.

Totally agree. Nexus 6 imo was a phone ahead of its time. At the time I thought its way too big/too bulky and never actually buy it although there aren't many phones I've skipped throughout the years. Mate 10 is Nexus 6 2017 edition
I am getting Mate 10 although I hate its gloss finish and I am not sure which color option would be the best looking and least finger print magnet.

Imo the should go at least 2k on mate 10 pro, I think 95% of smartphone users don't need more than that, don't ask for more than that, and wont take advantage for anything higher than a 2k resolution in a smartphone screen anyways.
I was hoping to sell my note 8 but what's the point.
Apple makes the rules. Don't know why they keep following their trend.
They finally give is the qhd but started taking away features.
I normally buy on release but I buy second hand in december/January when it's half off.

i cant see the point of swapping from my Note 8 either. Not yet, anyway.
They really messed up the two models.
I wonder what went on to make them do this.
I'm guessing it was a combination of several desires and issues.
Probably wanted a lower priced model, wanted all OLED but couldn't get enough and then wouldn't meet the price point they wanted, weren't sure about going all-in with the new screen ratio, etc, etc..
I really wish they offered OLED with a headphone jack, DAC and SD card, front fingerprint reader is better too.
I can't buy either of these phones.
I just won't go back to LCD. It's inferior technology.
Otherwise that regular mate 10 is great..

Mate has dual 4G sim cards. However I haven't found any conformation if Mate 10 Pro has dual sim active (like Mate 8) or passive (like Mate 9). Can both cards be used simultaneously for data and phone calls or two 3G phone calls (not VoLTE) on different sim cards ? Any does this concern all the variants (including Chinese).

Why would they call it "world's first" if the setup was the same as any other ? So it has to be 4G dual sim active.

My only complaint is that the Mate 10 (not the Pro) should be FullHD and not 1440p. Or at least, an option to switch like the Galaxy.
I prefer battery life and definitely can't tell the difference.

Hi All,
I want to share my experience with my LG G6 Plus (model H870DSU, 128GB, Dual SIM, 32 bit Hifi DAC, Android 8) and as the subject is saying, it has (had now) terrible thermal throttling. After some reading here on XDA and on the internet, I have decided to open it and at first just replace the thermal paste. But this solution was still not enough and throttling was not fixed as I expected. So I opened it again and removed the thin copper tape which is sitting on the "SoC housing". Under the tape is also a little and thin grey thermal pad, not sure how good it is ,as the phone was permanently overheating. Then install thin copper plate (15 x 15 x 0.5 mmm) directly on the Snapdragon 821 SoC, which has 15 x 15 mm dimensions.
SoC, copper plate and "in-built" heatpipe, all have been cleaned by IPA (Iso Propyl Alcohol) and AC MX-4 was used between SoC and copper plate and between copper plate and heatpipe.
Then I put everything together and run the "CPU Throttling Test" again, and the results are more than just a great now. And trust me, before the mod, I have tried everything to have such a stable performance, I even put the phone into the fridge, but it has always throttled. Now, after the mod, the phone is fast and smooth again even in heavy tasks with no lags.
Sorry I have forgotten to make pictures during the mod, so I just modified some pictures from the internet for better understanding. But screenshots from "CPU Throttling Test" app are mine.
Copper plate was bought on Ali.
Do not forget, you are doing it on your own risk, as always

do games still drop fps after this mod? because gaming on this device is fine until it thermal throttles.
I have this phone for almost 5 years, but never play any game on it, sorry
Some FPS drops will come, no matter what (its still only passive cooling inside the phone), but it should not be as bad as before the mod. I see benefits of this mod in daily tasks, not benchmarks or games (I have used CPU Thermal Throttling Test, only to show the difference between and after).
Phone is not lagging while browsing a web (Chrome) or switching between apps during higher usage like WhatsApp, Viber, Messenger, GCam. Also temperatures are going down faster after the load, because of better heat dissipation.
Anyway, keep in mind, that this is a Snapdragon 821, which is quite old SoC (6+ years) and if your preference is gaiming, I would probably go for something newer, with better thermal management, like Snapdragon 855 and higher.

Yes, it could be fine upgrade if you can find one in good condition, which was never opened, damaged or is not missing any internal parts, like heat-pipe.

Hi, I do not know if I write in the right place but I have one question, I used this mod and when it comes to work it has stabilized a bit but looking at the processor power, it differs significantly from your copy at max and there is also thermal throttling, is it is it a question of a damaged CPU?
Thank you for this information. I am going to replace battery in a few months because its going to die slowly, i will replace defective fingerprint sensor too (heating and pushing on rear cover does not help). And now i will do this thermal paste replacement too. I have just purchased those metal plates from aliexpress.
Just one question: what is "black copper tape"? is it really copper tape? i did not disassemble it yet, i have just checked a few youtube videos and i see there some kind of black tape but is it really copper? do i have to reapply it after cleaning? or i can discard it?
thank you a lot
Well, to me it looks like copper tape. I have removed it completely, as it was more useless than useful ... we can see on screenshots "before-after".
Do not forget to check, if your copper plates from aliexpress are perfectly flat, especially on edges. Mine were not, so I had to do some "DIY" at home to make them flat.

my LG G6 is often a bit lagging, i dont know, it might be about apps requiring more and more resources (but on the other hand android should handle this resource issue well) but i am still happy to find out that there is a thermal pad/paste inside which can be renewed and i hope it will help a bit to breath life into my "old" phone. Unfortunately i missed to unlock the bootloader so i hope somebody will save us with a code generator soon
Thank you again for the tip
When I was on Android 9, the phone was a bit laggy "here and there". Didn't really like it. When I switched back to Android 8, smoothness is everywhere. Tried to switch to Android 9 a few times (allways clean install), but system was a bit laggy, so for my needs, Android 8 is the only way to go.

Hello mate, are you still using the lg g6 as your main phone?
Hi,
yes, the phone is still working fine running Android 8. Android 9 is just too laggy.
J.
Hello. I have used this mod. I put the copper plate as followed from the instructions, but the result didn't meet expectations even after downgrading to Android 8.
The pre-installation result wasn't uploaded to gdrive before reset, forgot to upload it so it wasn't here
This image shows the result on Android 9, mod applied. 25.11.2022
The second one shows the result on Android 8.

Hello,
I did the test again to see if my cooling mod is still working. Even the spike is not the same, stability is OK from my point of view.
J.
Unfortunately i was too lazy to perform any benchmark, now i am regretting it a bit Yesterday i made a battery/cam glass/fingerprint sensor replacement and i have also performed this thermal stuff upgrade the exact way as you have described (the old paste was almost dry). I dont know if its performing better but i am glad i did it. thank you again for the idea.
