Can't find alot off info regarding this (in my opinion) very big issue.
A tablet is not like a phone, a phone is for personal use, a tablet is usable for multiple users.
Now the question I have, why is dex only available for the administrator?
I bought this tablet so everyone could make a profile and use it as "a laptop" with their own apps etc, everyone their own environment. The whole purpose off this tablet is gone.
Check Settings->Accounts and backup->Users
Check this articles also:

It looks like it is possible, I also didn't know until I read your question.

It's only available for the administrator, more people complaining on the Samsung forums, I sended Samsung myself, "we will submit your issue with the developers". So far no response.
You're right, Dex is available only for the administrator, unfortunately. But in my case, Dex is not working at all, even when on the administrator's account. I can start it on the tablet, but nothing happens when I connect the tablet to the computer.
There is an other possibility to view the tablet's screen on a bigger display. Just connect a USB-C to HDMI cable directly to the HDMI port of a monitor on one side and to the USB-C port of your tablet on the other side. If you switch the tablet in landscape mode the screen will be filled entirely. I also was able to connect a wireless keyboard and a wireless mouse to the tablet, to overcome the lack of a physical keyboard and mouse.

Maybe it is not so comfortable as it is with Dex, but it could be a solution for a multi user environment.
For the administrator account, Samsung Dex is automatically started. For the other users accounts, they will see the same tablet's screen, but much bigger and easier to use, especially if you connect a wireless keyboard and mouse.
As I understand it, you could setup a public work station containing a display with HDMI port, a wireless keyboard and mouse, and a USB-C to HDMI cable. Each worker could come and connect the tablet to the HDMI cable and finish its tasks on the tablet much easier and faster, when still keeping different accounts for every worker on the tablet.

@uhi711 ,
what do you mean by “ Dex is not working at all (...) but nothing happens when I connect the tablet to the computer. “ ? What do you expect from this connection? DEX is what you described further down: USB-C to HDMI to get kind of Windows UI on a bigger screen.

@meduza,
There is also what's called Samsung DeX for PC, which is a downloadable program for Windows 10, from Samsung's website, which allegedly should allow you to connect your phone/tablet to a computer by means of an USB-C to USB-A cable. As Samsung states here https://help.content.samsung.com/csweb/faq/searchFaq.do (look for Samsung DeX for PC, first question and Samsung's answer), this should work almost the same as DeX through HDMI cable. As I see it, this should be a better option due to parallel access to bought your phone/tablet and PC, without the need to switch your monitor between different inputs. Unfortunately, there is only a small list of devices compatible with DeX for PC, and the Tab S6 is not listed. But I also own the Note 10+ which IS listed but it doesn't work, exactly as described in the first question.
That's what I was referring to. DeX through HDMI cable works fine on both my devices.

Would this be possible at all? Cause I was thinking if there is an adapter to have an HDMI cable attach to the tab, what about plugging it into the back of a computer (my computer has a HDMI port in the back of it) and using it as a secondary monitor...except with touchscreen possibilities?
I'd try it myself but I don't have the adapter for it, and I would assume an app would need to be developed for it.
Splashtop is working on their app called xDisplay. Its already out for iPad and its amazing.
Note, do not purchase an app called iDisplay. Its completely useless due to abysmal refresh rate of less than 1fps.
Splashtop xDisplay runs around 20-30fps.
Really two questions:
1. Is there a way to adjust resolution or over/underscan on the HDMI output of the tablet? When I have the tablet connected to my TV, there is about 1-2" of black border around the mirrored image.
2. I am trying to output to a LCD Monitor, mHDMI>HDMI adapter to HDMI>DVI cable connected to my Monitor, but the Monitor does display any image - not even a "out of display range" error. The monitor will briefly turn on, then dispaly "no signal." Both adapter and cable work independently of each other when attached to my TV. Is this a problem with the tablet, cable configuration, or my monitor?
Is there anything I can do to check/adjust the signal out from the Tablet? I am using the OG Samsung Dock w/HDMI out. Please let me know if I can provide any additional information.
[Edit] Currently running Tasks 14 Full Rom with Pershoot's latest kernel. And I have the WiFi only version.
same issue
I have a samsung galaxy 10.1 tab in the office and I am trying to do HDMI mirroring. I do not have a dock but I have HDTV Adapter. I do not have a HDMI monitor at office. So, I used a HDMI to DVI converter. When connected, nothing happens. no errors on the monitor just like you said.
So, does it require a TV/Monitor which has a HDMI input?
Or does it simply require a media dock?
[Edit] Does HDMI mirroring requires rooting?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
I would assume HDMI mirroring is built-in, as they sell addons for HDMI output. Semi glad to see someone else has the problem... but now its two of us with the same problem lol. Later this week I'm going to try an ICS build, see if there is any difference.

Well, I was glad I was not the only one with this problem
I did some Googling, search Android HDMI to VGA. Should turn up some links exposing the issue. Basically, android cannot natively do VGA. Need a HDMI to VGA converter, possibly powered, but there isn't much information. Dealextreme sells one for $38... and it may not work.
Sucks, seems like a decades old standard would be something engineers would think to maintain compatibility with.

give up
At this point of time, I am giving up and tell my boss to buy a new tablet. This is my office one.
I have Coby Kyros - bought it for cheapness. Will try rooting that.
mHDMI Connected to HDMI>DVI Cable = No Output on Monitor?
I have exactly the same problem with my XOOM and my Samsung T220 DVI-D monitor
I note that noboby has actually answered the questions posed by the previous posters.
Is that because no one knows??
The HDMI and the DVI-D signals are both fully digital and according to info I read on the web are pretty compatible.
I have aslo seen implied that a 5V signal which the DVI-D requires is maybe not available on the HDMI output.
How about some of you clever tech guys on the forums letting us less well gifted folks know if this is really a no-no and maybe why this is the case.
Thanks in advance for your help
Sorry folks have posted this in the wrong place ooops
Dear Fellow XDA-Developers,
I have spent the last 3 days researching all I can on the Galaxy Note 2, awaiting its final arrival on Verizon. I've seen great videos and posts on its external connectivity (props to NZtechfreak for his work).
I've also seen successful efforts to connect it to a HDMI television directly, no need for the docking station. Very cool. :victory:
What I've *not* been able to discover is whether anyone has successfully been able to hook a Galaxy Note 2 to an external touchscreen and have it both display the video output and serve as an input source for navigation?
Has anyone tried and succeeded here? Any tips or leads?

It really depends on how the input is connected. Most of the touch screens I have seen connect to the pc via generic mouse drivers. If that is the case, you would need the media dock to connect to the touchscreen via usb and hdmi. (The mhl adapter does have a usb port, but it only provides power).

Thanks SFBPro! Could you forego the media dock if you purchased an externally powered USB hub? Are there any options other than the media dock?
And to anyone else, any examples of specific hardware successfully working here? Many thanks!

How do you plan on getting the video on the screen using the hub? Are you thinking about plugging in a MHL into the hub? If so, I don't think that will work.
Did you find a solution? I want to Mount a external screen in my car and connect my Note 2.
Hi guys,
I have limited space at my place and I really cannot have another monitor hooked to my laptop 24/7. I need a solution that I can hook up when I need to edit on premiere and that I can remove when I´m not editing. I know there is a way to do this wireslessly with android tablets but it´s super slow and useless for editing. I need to know if there is any way to use an android tablet as a second monitor via USB or HDMI.
I know there is an app for Android called DSLR controller (or something like this) that allows you to mirror Canon EOS camera on your tablet or cell phone using a usb host cable (I´ve tested this on my cell phone and it actually works). For sure there must be a way to do something similar and use a tablet as a second monitor using a usb cable. I´m going to post this on android forum and see what comes up.
cheers

I have been looking at the Habey BIS-6332B as a possible low power field computer using Android, and I am trying to find a good solution as to what to use as Monitor's (Has 2 HDMI OUT) that can be recharged easy by Solar and other means in the Boonies.
There is a Chinese outfit called Chinavasion that sells a slew of pretty cheap Android devices, and their Tablets have HDMI ports!
All the Apps I found so far are for Windows and Mac ONLY. None yet for Android-To-Android.
Curious if you found anything?
If not, any idea what area would need to be Hacked? I am not as interested in a wireless connected Monitor as I am just a better low cost TFT Screen; self powered like the Tablets. For a $65-$120 (US) Device, there has got to be a way
In my mind I picture just some Diodes that need to be reversed in the Tablet(s). Air Display in Google Play is the only one so far that looks close Win/Mac only? Any leads are welcome.
Thanks.
I'm actually searching for something like that.
I would love to output my cellphone to an old 10inch tablet.
I've been searching for tablet with video input with no luck.
Hi
How do we connect the v30+ to an LCD projector? [wired-casting, i guess]
I have this USB-C to VGA adapter cable which i am trying to use. As soon as i plug it in, a small pop-up message comes up at the bottom saying "secondary screen connected"... But nothing happens after that - i mean the projector screen does not show the phone screen. The USB plugged-in choices show the usual charge-only/file-transfer options only, no new option regarding the screen-casting or secondary screen
If i unplug the cable, i get a similar pop-up saying "secondary screen disconnected".
I have searched through the display (and other) settings - i am not able to find anything related to this. Googling didnt turn up with anything either... except for one reddit post which still remains unanswered
Can you guys help out on this please...
--
Edit: It is not a cable issue - the same cable & projector works perfect when i plug in a s8+ phone - not even any pop-up on the phone - the projector screen just mirrors the phone screen.
Do you have developer mode enabled? Maybe there are some extra USB options for what you want to do?
Thanks for the efforts
Yes, i have developer options enabled... there are actually a few more usb options that i didnt mention when i typed the first msg - but none related to the so-called "secondary display" that the phone tells me it is connected to.

I'm actually wondering why nearly NOBODY is talking about this highly desirable feature in a phone - casting your screen to an audience through a projector.
Are we keeping quiet becoz the v30 doesnt have it??
I just googled this topic a bit and you're right, there's nothing there. Only relevant info I found was where somebody tried to connect a G6 to LG's own 5K TV(!!) via hdmi and they couldn't get it to work, because G6 doesn't support Slimport protocol or something like that. So if G6 doesn't support it, then most likely the V30 doesn't either, and the only way is wireless casting. That's mind boggling, really. And stupid. And downright mean. G6 and V30 being marketed as ultimate media phones and then this.
Samsung, on the other hand, brought back wired casting support in S8. The S7 didn't have it as far as I understand.
I wonder if Oreo update will support it.
That reddit post i mentioned is here . Give it a look. There is mention about the older MHL and the newer Slimport - which the S8+ has and the V30 doesnt [or does it? ... I mean - THAT is the original question here]
It mentions about an youtube video where someone seems to be shown connecting a v30 to a PC through usb-c to hdmi cable
Couple of such working cables have been mentioned - one here and another BlackWeb BWA14HO0002
--
The added problem for me is that most projectors here work with the good ol' 15-pin VGA connector... so, i'm gonna need to buy a HDMI-VGA converter (this i can buy easily though). But overall, i am weary of spending money for a feature which is NOWHERE mentioned for sure in official user manuals and the like.
--
and oh, someone suggested me to check out one MHL Checker app from playstore ... i did. But i still cant figure out if the answer is a yes or no... it gives some weird thing like "the mobile can support MHL(HDMI). You don't use the MHL(HDMI)"... whatever that means

Hi,
1) The MHL Checker app is telling you that the phone DOES have MHL output but you didn't have your cable plugged in (at that moment).
2) The info from Reddit is wrong.....the poster mistyped it. The cable he's referring to is a "BlackWeb BWA17HO0002"...and it doesn't work for my V30 (which HAS the Oreo update)..
Sorry to bring up a dead thread, has anyone made any progress on USB c to HDMI/USB/PD hubs? Looks like oneplus 7 pro had similar problems and they fixed it with an unofficial kernel.

I just bought this from Amazon and it didn't seem to work. I will play around with the settings and see if I can figure something out before returning it.

ALRIGHT! The adapter worked! I just had to change the settings under Developer Options > Networking section > Select USB Configuration to PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol)
Hope this helps!
Again, here is the link to the adapter. Only $12.99 right now. Can't beat it.

Thanks, but I was already aware of HDMI adapters working. I was talking about the hubs with USB and sd card readers with power delivery.... It worked on my v20 not v30.
Just for fun, I just plugged in my V30 to my LG TV (older model) using a USB-C to HDMI adapter I have for my MacBook Air. It worked immediately, no problems.

I also tested a USB-C to DVI adapter on my old Dell monitor. It also worked but disconnected and reconnected a few times, almost like the connection was easily disrupted if the cable was moved around. If I held it still it seemed to hold connection just fine.

This is actually an interesting discovery for me.

*Hello zombie thread*
I tried a cheap (AUD$14) USB-C to HDMI+USB3+(USB-C power in) hub, and it works. To the USB port I attach an unpowered USB3 hub with keyboard and mouse, and am outputting HDMI to monitor. All 3 peripherals work simultaneously.
I do have to plug the HDMI into the hub before I plug the hub into the phone. Otherwise no external monitor detected.
(I have V30+ 930DS on stock Android 9, bootloader unlocked and Magisk. For those interested I was using Sentio Desktop and Easy DPI Changer -> 300dpi to give me something decent size on the monitor)
I tried this method for connect laptop to projector with USB. And successfully connected you should try once this for your projector.
