Hey,
I'm looking for an easy to use, powerful upnp player and control point.
What I need are the following features:
* streaming music and pictures from minidlna UPNP Server to local player or other remote devices, like stand alone UPNP player or smart TV.
* controlling the volume of the remote player
* easy to use (simple Interface), especially for kids, which means:
** fast, easy access (without walking trough a lot of sub-menues ) to most important functions, like access to music, selecting target device, playing-control buttons and volume control
** adding music-folders to android app-launcher screen, to open an music folder in the same way like tapping to an app-icon. (which seams currently only supported by LocalCast Player)
I tried a lot of UPnP apps, but did not found an app, which fits all the three points.
I uses UPnPlayer a couple of years, which is not available on google playstore anymore (is there a reason why)? This player was eays and simple, but not easy to use enough, especially for kids.
Most UPNP control-points integrates the infrastructure into the media-control interface, which means: if the user like to choose an sound-file, he has to navigate through the following:
"media libraries" -> UPNP Server -> Music-> Folders -> [waht i looking for]
This is often confusing for the user.
The app should be run on current Samsung devices, LineageOS and fire tablet.
I would be happy to receive suitable suggestions.
by the way: is there an app to control multiple UPNP Renerder/Player?

I'm looking for an app which lets me browse my local media on my PC and begin watching / listening on the PC; like a remote control app, but more developed then say Awaremote for winamp (which isn't really set-up for video or honeycomb).
Similar to the Ipad Tivo Remote app. but not for Tivo, or Ipad.
I currently use Gmote, and while the touch pad mouse is excellent, I'd like to have previews of my media on the tablet; and even better
Also looking for an app that lets me mirror over wifi, or better yet; something that lets me browse to a video (on netflix or youtube, etc.) on the tablet, then watch the video on the PC.
Basically I have my Viera connected to my PC, and would like to be able to use the tablet as sort of an extended remote. I've seen videos of similar on Ipad. Any leads would be greatly appreciated!
Well the XBMC android remote does a lot of what you're looking for, but it does require you to use xbmc on the pc. I think the VLC remote might be your best bet? I haven't tried it myself but it looks right.

My suggestion would have been gmote.
Will follow this as I am looking for the same.
Splashtop does a lot more than that. It is the best rdp I have seen and you can even steam audio and video (netflix, hulu). The HD version force closes right away so I would get the free version which works and monitor the HD version that is supposedly optimized for tegra tablets.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium App
So I've been trying a few different remote Apps from the market. Two of the prevalent problems are - no honeycomb optimization, or lack of functionality.
Gmote: I've been using gmote on my phone for months for basic media playback on my PC. This is the status quo, and really I thought it would be easy to beat as a media remote. (The trackpad is awesome, and I use gmote for that hands down, but I must be looking at my TV.) The media selection is clunky, and I haven't had much luck getting the media controls on the remote to work for anything other then VLC.
Youtube remote: Cool idea, easy set-up. Terrible interface. Landscape just shows a preview of the youtube video. The tablet must be in portrait mode to interact with the interface. I was really hoping it was just an addon for the youtube app with a "Play on leanback" button or some such. Generally disappointed in the limited interface; it should be integrated with the youtube app.
Awaremote: I thought this was for me, I even went as far as purchasing the pro version. (The free version is limited to 400 songs.) Awaremote is very similar to Gmote without the touchpad. Alas it will not pick-up video files when it syncs the library. If your videos are already playing or in the playlist on your PC it will allow you limited control, but you cannot add or remove media from the playlist. As a strict music remote for winamp it's great, but it's sadly lacking in other areas. Widget could be better sized for honeycomb. Add in video and new widgets and I'm sold.
Next up: splashtop, xbmc
When in bed at night I use my SGS2 as a DLNA server by hooking it up to my TV via the MHL cable and then streaming video from my PC (which is in another room). It's a bit of a pain though to constantly get up out of bed to change the program. My wife also has a SGS2 and I was wondering if there was any way that her device could be used as a remote for my device? Is this possible? Any help appreciated.
This is possible. I hope the following explanation is sufficient.
Get PlugPlayer from the Android Market. Install it on at least the SGS2 connected to the TV.
PlugPlayer is a complete DLNA solution - it does all three functions: Media server, Media renderer, and Media controller. Skifta and Samsung's AllShare don't implement all functions IIRC.
Here's the breakdown of what this all means:
Media server is the source of your content.
Media renderer is the device with a display/speaker where the media is played.
Media controller controls what media is played from the Media server to the Media renderer.
One device can do all three at the same time.
Here's our setup:
SGS2 connected to TV acting as media renderer - let's call it DMR.
SGS2 in your hand acting as remote/controller - let's call it DMC.
Media source, wherever it is; it may be DMR, DMC, or another DLNA server - let's call this DMS.
Open PlugPlayer on DMR and leave it running. On DMC, in AllShare, Skifta or PlugPlayer, select the DMS that is hosting the media file you want to play, then select the DMR where you want to output the media file. Then, all that's left to do is to select the media file you want to play.
I do this all the time at home. I use a Buffalo NAS as the DMS, a Logitech Revue running PlugPlayer as the DMR, and my SGS2 as the DMC.
I hope you don't get lost in the sea of acronyms.

Even if I don't need it, and I don't have a mhl, neither a second s2, I understood everything, and it was really well explained. You deserve a thanks.

Hello there,
I Have an old phone which i want to use as a media player.
I tried to install a few VNC Servers for WM5, but that wasn't workable.
I Wonder if there is an application which i can run on my old phone, and then control the playing streams or MP3 files via a web-interface or something.
Something like VLC has, but there isn't a VLC for WM5 with an HTTP interface as far as i know.
Thx in advance.
You can try Pocket Player from Conduits (www.conduits.com). Their SW acts as UPNP Server or Agent, i.e. you can either stream SW from the device elsewhere or receive streams from other servers. I think that there were also programs to remote control WMP, but I have never used them.
You need to define for your purpose what shall be done where:
- control the playback
- Audio output
- media data
Does anyone know of a good player that will access my readynas running firefly server. i want an app that will show album art and either scroll or iconify the albums so i can leave prime set up on a stand to use as a jukebox during parties.
cheers
Not sure if this has everything you are looking for but to connect to my DLNA server for music I use BubbleUPnP. I like the look of the program and how you can choose which Library to read from, but you can also choose which Renderer to play to (or use local for either one).

Have you tried the native My Net app that's already on the Prime?

Did u try MyNet? It crashes all the time it is basically unusable. BubblePnp is a lot better.
tried both, not sure if i am using bubble right.
what i am after is an app that will show my album art in a grid or coverflow kinda way like itunes. something like a touchscreen jukebox you get in pubs. i want it easy for other people to just choose music without ever seeing a tablet before.
this might not be possible and the app might not exist.
the stock google music ap is ok in grid form.
ideally i would like a itunes clone with dj function that accesses my readynas
Looks like a while back, a guy created a firefly media server plugin for Plex that looks promising:

http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Firefly_Media_Server_(mt-daapd)
Plex is pretty cool, btw, it allows remote as well as within-LAN access to your media. Stream your music wherever you have iternet, on all your platforms (laptop, Prime, Ipad, phone, etc.)
Hi,
I'm looking for an app to control video playback on an Android tablet from an Android phone. This is to use the tablet as a car entertainment system for the kids where I can use the phone to remotely select videos stored in the tablet and instruct it to play them there while sitting at the front seat via wifi/bluetooth (i.e. no streaming the actual video from phone to tablet). Ideally it would be an app just to control the MX/VLC/whatever video player. Alternatively it could be a more generic app to y control the tablet and launch the player remotely.
Does such thing exist?
I've checked Droidmote and Tablet Remote. The former requires a paid server app (client is free) which you cannot try before buying so I'm not sure if it fits my requirements. The latter sort of works although buggily but in any case it just gives you some remote buttons and you cannot properly interact with the remote device to control and launch apps...
Cheers
