i am aware that the droidx's locked bootloader causes some....issues...
but i'm trying to find something extremely stable with all the phone's hardware enabled. i've been using a nightly from a few months ago since i didn't want to put in the time to reset everything, but now with free time i can.
my rom crashes rather often, locks up, and the camera crashes at random.
i do not need anything blazing fast. just something stable with relatively few installation steps (i'm not allergic to a command prompt)
i might be asking this on the wrong forum, but i'd rather not risk a ban
What do you mean stable? Like 100% stable or usable stable?
I'm using Black Ice Kangorate (AOKP-based, ICS) 36 from travp from Rootzwiki and it's wonderful. There's a problem with sounds settings but the dev knows about it and will be fixed next build.
I also use AOKP b35 (ICS; also from Rootzwiki). They both are stellar but have problem with camcorder issue. Or, you can use Cm4dx by RevNumbers, which is a more stable for droid x and is GB based.
i'd prefer as stable as humanly possible, as long as it's not bloatware stock. i've messed around with nightlies for a few months but i just don't have the spare time to chase or deal with bugs that break stuff like the wifi or camcorder.
Stock ROM is the most stable . I'd go with CM4DX by RevNumbers.
I'm pretty tired of the nightly life (on my droidX), things breaking right when i need them, not enough time for workarounds, all that junk
trying to find a good daily driver now, MIUI seems legit....or is it?
specifically, what's the most rock solid and stable MIUI release you've seen to date? keep in mind i''ll probably be doing that V6 turbo trick to load the launcher into main memory, i'm not certain if that'll make miui's head spin
Hi,
I find the posted threads confusing. I'm looking to flash ICS on my dad's Atrix 4G as he needs it for an app he considers crucial . Unlike me, he isn't very interested in experimenting with any exciting ROMs; he needs his phone to function: on and off, sleep, text, call, bluetooth, browser, camera, maybe music, without issue.
Fingerprint reader is not critical.
Is there a ROM that is quite stable in all these areas? Posts seem to say yes, but they also seem to say that stable ICS/JB is not possible because of kernel issues.
What's the bottom line?? Please advise me.
Stable ICS? No such thing. Been said countless times already. I don't see what is so confusing about that. Despite enthusiastic feedback from people, no ICS/JB is actually stable enough for day-to-day usage. That's why pretty much all of them get quite frequent updates.
Does the app in question not work on GB?

It doesn't, no. Unless there's a way to have ICS runtime environment or st but that sounds impossible
And the confusion stems from claims like "..stable enough for a daily rom!" in comments I keep finding in specific ICS ROM threads. I'm sure that's the enthusiasm you're talking about lol.
I've been using epinter's jb 4.1.2 for months. video cam & fingerprint not working. everything else, including photo-cam, works. and let me tell my experience and you decide:
in normal use, the battery can last 2 days. and seldomly, kernel seems to wake the device, causing battery drain. problem ends after a reboot.
I call it a stable enough daily rom. but it'll be your decision.

As the dev team threads have said, the ICS/JB kernel alpha release is immenint. It may be an alpha, but it may give you the results you're looking for if combo'd with an ICS or higher ROM. Current ROMs are stable to a point without the dev'd kernel. While i recommend waiting for a beta to be released, you're more than welcome to test out the alpha once its released while keeping the usual advisory warnings in mind. If you don't want to wait for the alpha, feel free to try one of the ICS ROMs, but be warned, camera issues and battery life issues are major areas to watch out for. These issues may be fixed by the dev'd kernel.
Personally i've been using Atrics v2.0 and epinter's CM 10.1. Both are good.

The video cam, fingerprint, & force-wake are literally the only issues? Or just the most frequent ones? Bc that'd be awesome but if e.g. the phone part sometimes wont open or the text messaging force closes or similar issues exist then it may be a dealbreaker for him.

Same question re epinters; additionally, re the kernel - would that simply reduce the problems associated with the ICS/JB roms or introduce its own set of issues?
I appreciate your time/ effort.

I don't have any experience with Epinter's CM10, but from what i just read, comparing it to 10.1, it has the same issues. I haven't had any issues with messaging via ROM messaging app or via Go SMS. The kernel is supposed to solve the problems. However, battery life seems to still be an issue from what I've been reading. They disabled the camera for testing on the battery issue at the moment. At the moment, CM9, 10, and 10.1 all are running on variations of the GB kernel. While it was tweaked enough to make each ROM stable, the full potential won't be reached until the new kernel is implemented
The CM ROMs, in my opinion, are stable enough for daily use. Its up to you which ROM you want to use. As far as the kernel goes, I'll be trying out the alpha once its released, but it would be wiser to wait on the beta.

I agree with u man, Epinter's CM10 is great ROM and I had more issues with stock GB ROM than this. If u don't need video camera and fingerprint reader I recommend it to use CM10.

I have enough experience to say that these are literally the only issues i've had.
sms or phone or connection has never force-closed for me.
you might give it a try. it doesnt take so long to try and revert back.

This is true, just remember to make a nandroid backup (webtop optional) prior to testing out any non stock ROM.
With my setup, i've got backups of 2.3.6's 141 and 145, 4.0.4, and 4.2.1, and if i'm doing a straight restore from one to another, roughly 20-30 mins until i'm back up and running.

My friend's got SGS2 and he's low on money to buy a new phone at the time.
I myself owned sgs2, but several years ago, i.e. not tracking sgs2 threads now.
He's on stock now, but it's barely working, memory is over9000 full, ram's eaten by everything that can eat it.
I know I could just clear the stock, but it's kinda boring, I saw there are already Lollipop ROMs for sgs2 that seems to be working just fine (like Resurrection), but I'd like someone else's opinion.
Question is to those who still own and use sgs2 as a daily driver, what ROM should I install for him?
He's retarded in terms of everything related to technology, so he needs something that would work rock steady and stable, without bugs and errors, i.e. no beta\alpha builds.
I need to flash him some stable ROM, configure it and forget about it.
Advice needed, will be much appreciated, very thanks, wow!

OK, there are heaps of options out there.....
If he uses a lot of apps I would steer clear of lollipop roms for now as the os uses a lot of memory at present and they haven't quite got to the "rock steady, no bugs" stage just yet. You could try a minimalist rom like neatrom or slimsaber on kitkat, they are very good for performance and battery life. Ressurection remix 5.1.5 kitkat is also very good, a slightly older version of kitkat but based on cyanogenmod, so has themes and other stuff. Even older jellybean roms such as cm10 or vanilla rootbox are also highly recommended.
I'm currently using slimsaber by @fusionjack with dorimanx 10.44v008 kernel by @cybernetus as my daily driver at the moment and it would definately tick all your boxes
Hi everyone.
Mostly i dont write or comment anything but i feel like its time to just put my opinion on everything that is happening with our Poco. I got my Poco like month ago and in first two weeks i was on Miui 9 global stable rom and i was experiencing couple of bugs like everyone else. Most annoying thing was touchscreen issue. I tried Miui 10 global beta 8.10.25 and i thought most of the bugs will disappear, but bad luck most of the thing stayed the same.
Since Android Pie appeared last week i had a feeling that its not worth of upgrading because i will be facing the same bugs. But yesterday i was thinking why not giving a shoot. I dirty flashed Miui 10 8.11.2 and its the best thing i've done. Im a Pubg player and i really love this game and this is the first time i was enjoyed while playing this game. Im getting 290+ antunu score and everything else its working just fine. There are some little bugs that i can see right now but for me they are not important.
This phone has great battery and all amazing specs and all of us should really enjoy this phone. I still hope that this touchscreen problem its not the hardware issue a that i can be fixed with updates and as far as i can see this 8.11.2 brought a lot of improvments. Lets hope that every update after this will be better.
I highly recommend for you to try 8.11.2 it is really feeling like new device now, maybe with custom kernel like Sphinx would be even better. I'll give it a try. :good:
Touchscreen.
So the touchscreen issue is not gone? Btw, what kind of touchscreen issue are we talking here? Sluggish scrolling on Instagram for example? Semi-responsive typing?

I was talking about touchscreen issues while playing games which requires multiple fingers on the screen, on example Pubg. Gamers are experiencing ghost touches etc. I never had problem with scrolling it was always smooth and precise. Its the same thing with typing, i've been using Gboard from the day one and its working just normal.
Do you confirm that with the Miui 10 beta (Android Pie) the problem with the screen bleeding has been drastically reduced?
It has been reported in other videos/forum
Thanks

Totally agree with you..8.11.2 android pie based ..Lots of fixes has been fixed.
What more can Poco offer if you installed Sphinx kernel by Milouk..pretty sure your device will fly.:good:
