Notifications - LG V60 ThinQ Questions & Answers

My Gmail notifications are showing up intermittently in the status bar. I've checked the settings in the app and on the phone and all seem to be correct. I've also cleared the cache in the app but the notifications are still intermittent. If anyone has had this problem and know the fix I would appreciate yours and all other input. I am beginning to think it's related to the latest Gmail update.

do you have a firewall blocking Google services? thats what i have and lots of apps use Google services and it might be why. or maybe quiet time mode could be switched on or scheduled that you don't know of...

No firewall. I don't think quiet mode is on but I'll check. Thanks for the response.

Sorry...I meant to ask you what firewall you're using

AFwall firewall it needs root. you can use no-root firewall for non-rooted androids, it fakes a vpn connection and does filters, just as good really. google apps and services will be find a way to stealing your data no matter what you do.

Disabling Latitude, Places and Nav.

Ok, here is the deal, i've done research, and seems like nobody has really been able to provide a solution, so im gonna share where im up to, so maybe some can help to solve this. (Havent got to a solution yet)
So, latitude, places and navigation are all part of google maps, and thats why noone can see them listed as apps.
I used rom toolbox, and its advances freeze feature, to get "inside" the app, and see the individual services, recievers and others...
Using this feature, i also froze all services and things that seemed related to latitude, places, and navigation (long list, but basically everything that had a reference to them somewhere on the name or functionality (mini description under each of the modules name)
My results with doing these were the following:
Maps still worked, could get a hold of my location, and directions worked.
Latitude, places, and navigation app icons were gone from my app drawer.
So, all locked solved, but then, using android assistant to check running programs, guess what, latitude was still there!!!
So, what im asking is if someone knows which things exactly to freeze to make them stop working...i just want maps to work, but dont need all the other bloat.
Any opinions, solutions, suggestions are welcome
PS: if this helped u in some way, please hit the thanks button
I did the following (it works either from an ordinary adb shell--no su required--or from a script or terminal emulator with su):
Code:
pm disable com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.googlenav.networkinitiated.NetworkInitiatedService
pm disable com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.googlenav.networkinitiated.NetworkInitiatedReceiver
pm disable com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.googlenav.friend.android.ServiceReceiver
pm disable com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.googlenav.friend.android.LocationFriendService
pm disable com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.googlenav.friend.reporting.LocationReceiverService
pm disable com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.googlenav.friend.reporting.LocationReportingService
pm disable com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.googlenav.friend.checkins.CheckinNotificationService
pm disable com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.googlenav.friend.reporting.LocationReportingIntentReceiver
pm disable com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.googlenav.appwidget.friends.FriendsAppWidgetUpdateService
pm disable com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.googlenav.friend.history.LocationHistoryIntentReceiver
pm disable com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.googlenav.friend.reporting.LocationPrivacyService
pm disable com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.googlenav.friend.OptInIntentService
pm disable com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.googlenav.appwidget.friends.FriendsAppWidgetProvider
pm disable com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.android.maps.LatitudeActivity
The results killed all the Latitude-related stuff. I also feel that the first two lines may have decreased the length of time that NetworkLocationPassiveCollector showed up with a partial wakelock, but they didn't kill it completely. I think that adding
Code:
pm disable com.google.android.apps.maps/com.google.android.location.internal.server.NetworkLocationService
would kill it completely, and thus save battery, but this would have the unhappy side-effect of disabling WiFi-based location. If you are happy with just GPS-based location, you can do it.

Search for Titanium Backup in the Market. (I can't post a link yet)
A good starting point might be the spreadsheet that was created and placed on Google. It is for the SGS2 but alot of the apps have been identified and exist on the gNote as well..
Credit is listed in the spreadsheet "Contact Veyka on XDA for any updated/missing apps" and remember that it is for the SGS2. Maybe one can be created for the gNote if there isn't one already!
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...1gdDJRekl4QmkyNmIzUmRvX2h3UDVkQXc&output=html
I don't have all those apps but I have frozen everything in those lists that I do have. Zero issues.

Oops, I missed this and posted a similar thread yesterday.. For those of us who prefer to use pm disable, could the list be updated with the package names?
I'll make a list of a few obvious ones that I'm seeing in System Panel, easy to see the info there.
Tethering Manager - TetheringManager2.apk - com.tecace.tetheringmanager
AT&T Hot Spots - WISPr_55_Android22.apk - com.matchboxmobile.wisp
AT&T Ready 2 Go - dashconfig_v0.6.0_platform.apk - com.dashwire.config
Social Hub - SocialHub.apk - com.sec.android.socialhub
AccuWeather - SamsungWidget_WeatherClock.apk - com.sec.android.widgetapp.weatherclock
(more)
I've been using Titanium Backup which doesn't list directly the package names. Gonna update the thread today with the package names I found and some new additions!. Thanks for the input Khaytsus! Clicked ur thanks button.

Can you no longer log in using any method? Normally they have a sign in page. Can you not connect at all? Or are you just unable to browse or sign-in.

why would at&t hot spots be on this list? yall really consider that bloatware? or maybe im the only one on a 3gig account

Considering you can get wifi almost anywhere, and I know of a lot more places with free wifi than "ATT Wifi", I personally don't care.

I've heard that unfreezing apps on the Note can lead to a problem referenced by a guy writing an app to freeze/unfreeze apps. I'll post a URL below, note I don't know the dev nor use his software, but came across it in another thread.

Anyone tried to unfreeze anything? I have not yet. Technically I'd use pm enable, but
I didn't get a chance to connect manually, but the attwifi SSID IS set to automatically connect, but it did not in any location. Also, after unfreezing AT&T Software Update, I'm now getting a "DM initialization is not ready. Check network or SIM card." error. I still cannot check for updates.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that after unfreezing AT&T Hot Spots, I can once again automatically connect. Although AT&T Smart WiFi is nowhere to be found. I didn't uninstall anything, just froze them. I also don't see it in my backups...it may be possible this apk never existed and I'm just imagining things.
EDIT 2: I pulled the battery and when I booted up again, the phone showed the same little logo in the notification bar as when it was first being activated and afterward I was able to check for updates with no issues.

I've seen this behavior as well. Even after Un-installing it, Smart Wi-Fi messages notifying me that i connected to a new network hung around in the notification area. That's what prompted me to delete it. I don't need AT&T collecting data on what Wi-Fi access points I've been connecting to. I only trust Google with that type of info.
Granted, they could probably get my location info from my phone if they really wanted...but they'd have to take an interest in me first. Installing an app on my phone without my permission, and then collecting passwords and other information blatantly...again without my permission is breaking criminal if you ask me. The average user isnt going to notice this...it'll stay on their device for the lifetime if the phone.
This is a huge privacy issue.
But in regards to the app...you can still use att Wi-Fi at those places...most of them are free.
But there are a few select places and situations that you might benefit from keeping the app around for, a few places that have attention Wi-Fi require club memberships or gift cards. Either way...at free or pay locations its basically a express sign in.
Is there any upside or downside to "delete" or "freeze" bloatware via Titanium Backup? I usually freeze them just incase i delete something i shouldn't have

[Q] Stop Background Data without Disabling Data

I am currently roaming in roaming in the U.S. at quite high prices. I want to use my phone to get notified of new e-mails, whatsapps, and facebook messages. However, because roaming rates are quite high, I want to make sure my phone doesn't use any other background data. For example, updating weather widget (w/o my manual refreshing), or checking my apps for updates. Especially checking for app updates is a huge waste of data. I tried disabling the update notifications in play store, but it still seems to check because when I go to "my apps" it already knows which of my apps are out of date.
Is there an app that will only let selected apps access my data?

If your phone is rooted you can take the app "LBE Privacy Guard" from play store. With the app you can set the permissions for all your apps.
regards
Thanks! I am using LBE Privacy Guard now but Android is still eating away at my data. I disabled 2G/3G data usage for all apps except Whatsapp and Gmail. in thee Firewall section I can see how much data my apps are using. Over the last 3 hours Whatsapp has used 5kb and gmail has used 122 kb, according to LBE no other app has used any data, yet it shows that I have used 372 kb over the last few hours. At $1 per MB on roaming I will be spending about $1.50 a day at this rate even if I do not send or receive any messages. This is too much data usage for background apps I am not using. And when I am roaming on Y-mobile my charges go up to $16 per MB, which would really be too expensive. And unfortunately there are no SIM cards in USA that you can just buy for prepaid for a few days.
Have you disable "background data" and "auto sync" under settings on your phone?
regards
originally I didn't because then i figured it won't check my whatsapp messages anymore. But I tried it just to see what would happen. I have now disables EVERY app to use internet and turned off syncing. I still used 832 kb of data in the last 12 hours.
Google should really work on this. I wish they had a feedback line. How can they make it possible to turn data off, but not make it possible to limit my data use when data is turned on?
As much as I travel, this is a dealbreaker for me. does anyone here have an iPhone and can confirm if data can be completely controlled on it?

If you're rooted, install Avast Anti-Virus. It provides a nice firewall. It supports different sets of firewall rules based on Wi-Fi, Home data, Roaming data.
By default, its in "Deny Selected" mode. Just, switch to "Allow Selected" mode and allow those apps in Roaming column.

This has got to be the funniest statement ever, iPhone has no flexibility. Turn on WiFi and data turns off. Turn off WiFi and data turns on.
There is no way you can make it so it restricts certain apps.

New to Android, Wake lock issues

Hello, I'm new to the OS and I've noticed that while my screen has only been on for 40 minutes it looks like my phones been awake for 3 hours. I'm assuming this means I have a wakelock issue. Whats the best way to identify/stop these?
If it is there's wakelock finding apps. Better battery stats works. It may be the stock governer or something is causing some nasty battery drain.
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda premium
im impressed that some one new to android even knows what a wakelock is.
I second using BBS to identify the wakelock. Also, go into account settings - google account and turn off sync for all of the services you dont use or need to auto sync. Music and currents are known culprits.
if you are rooted... get an app called greenify. it suspends background activity while the screen is off for apps that you chose to greenify. It makes apps perform like an iphone app would. The beauty is that you get to chose which apps you want to run in the background and which you do not.
hope that helps.
Using the app Autostarts will allow you to disable many background processes that usually cause wakelocks. Find out what is the problem with better battery stats, and then disable most of the "events" triggered by that app. Most of the time it's Maps-related, and disabling the autostarts for Maps will help. Turn off location history to save even more battery life.
thank you both that helps quite a bit

Launcher malware?

Avast says: "Launcher has been reported as malware (Android:Gappusin-BL [Trj])." And Fakeapp, SMSZombie, Ginmaster, Agent, Kiser, SMSSend and so on...
What is this? Should I be worried?
same here,
google play store and other , it's a general bug.
on avast forum they should uninstall and reinstall it
Just tried scanning. Got to 50 apps and Avast reported 50 problems. Cancelled and uninstalled.
I still think the best antivirus is common sense and responsible use of internetz. But just in case, I'll install Avast again.
i reinstall it and see that avast has delete the last viral definition update, my last is from two days.
so you may solve the problem by reinstalling it
