Fingerprint scanner losing calibration when MIUI gets updated or wiped - Xiaomi Mi 10 Questions & Answers

I have never heard anything about that.
I just bought a Mi 10 8/256gb and the phone arrived today. After setting up the device (Wifi, Google Account, Fingerprint scanner) I got an update notification to the 10.0.6.0 MIUI 12 Global (phone came with MIUI 12 already installed) so I decided to go on with the update. Right after I noticed that the fingerprint scanner wasn't picking up my thumb print. Strangely enough, I decided to delete the old fingerprint record and add a new one. At this point I noticed that the fingerprint scanner was barely working and It took me 10 minutes to add a single fingerprint! Obviously it didn't unlock anything.
So I flashed the previous version of the MIUI 12 believing it would have fixed the problem, but nope.
So I made some research and I managed to calibrate the fingerprint sensor and with my big surprise, it stared to work again flawlessly! But, when I updated (again) the MIUI to the latest version I was on the start line again. So I went again to the calibration process and in two minutes the fingerprint scanner was working better than ever. And it is now.
But why on earth does it have to lose its calibration every time the MIUI gets updated or wiped?
Really, I can't figure it out.
What do you think?

I guess you're just unlucky. I've already experienced 3 updates on this model and never encountered it.

Very unlucky I shall say. Two weeks ago I bought the One Plus Nord which had a faulty display. Sent it back and exchanged with this one, which is faulty too.
I'm kinda bored of this ****

I must admit i have never been that satisfied about a underscreen fingerprintscanner as with the xiaomi mi 10..

Future P9000 user. Worth to buy?

Hello.
I have questions for current users of P9000. I do not have this phone. I can buy new P9000 for 180 USD. What you think? It is good idea? Chinese phones are always good "on paper" but always have bugged stock roms. We have any stable rom for P9000 for daily use without pain in ass? If you had to choose, would you buy it a second time?
Please help me decide.
Regards
I bought it but I am not hapy with it.
Camera from the biginning was not well, and now stopped at all by itself. I did not drop or do something just in one day it stopped to launch.
Edge of display came of from the body. Battery drain is good if you don't use 3G.
If you want good phone search among Xiaomi , Meizu or ZTE.
For me "ZTE nubia z11 Mini" is good.
Definitely not. Gps, fast charge and camera are not good enough. Android pay does not work..buy one plus 3
Its is a good phone , interesting phone, but google pay not working, when it is working its is a great phone....

I think its all about expectations. For me after rooting and flashing Eragon ROM I am happy with what I paid for. Don't expect Samsung/Apple standards for its camera its really bad compared to those. I dont use google/android pay so that doesn't bug me.
For that price I don't think you can get anything better.
I'm not sure what Google pay is but there is no problem buying apps with the phone.
GPS is not perfect but usable, same with the camera.
Battery time is very good at least for me. Twice I have left the phone fully charge at 10 pm and att 5 am I have 100% & 99%. This is with wifi and sync on. When I hade 99% there was a Titanium Backup of all user apps 200+ in the middle of the night.
Fast charge I don't know anything about, I charge the phone during night so that would not be an issue.
I have Eragon ROM on the phone.
The physical device itself is pretty solid but the stock software, as of present, is similar to that of an early beta build.
I'd advise you don't take the leap as I believe Elephone shouldn't be encouraged for releasing an incomplete phone.
I would not buy again. External SD doesn't work at all. Had to factory reset after update to get fingerprints back. Spontaneous reboots & alarms unreliable since last OTA update. I'd spend more money and get OnePlus 3 or used OnePlus 2.

External SD works just fine. Fingerprints dissapearing after an update of software is a known issue but a very minor inconvenience - all you have to do is add them back again. Which software version are you currently on?

I knew about the fingerprint issue but misread something from the release notes that caused me to think it had been fixed. It's not that they go missing, it's that they remain used but unrecoverable, so I went for a few weeks with only one fingerprint. No biggie.
My SD Card has never, ever worked. It's as though it's not even there. SIM works fine in that slot though.
In general I find the phone is not quite stable enough that I would recommend it to anyone else to buy, but it's not quite unstable enough that I sent it back, although I might have done if I'd had a decent spare.

On paper it sounds good but too many bugs for me to use as a my daily driver so sent back to Amazon. GPS not great, fingerprint unlock not reliable. Unable to send or receive text without rebooting occasionally which was the biggie for me.
You get what you pay for, all phones have problems at one time or another no phone is perfect, GPS after lock works fine, finger print a bit slow but never had a problem as such, Camera isn't the problem it's the software use a different app and it's not that bad and I still have an Xperia Z1 so i can compare, Android Pay i live in the UK all bank card are contactless why fiddle about with a phone when it easier to just pull out your bank card the number of time i've stood behind some one trying to pay for something with their IPhone is mind numbing, you can make calls you can send texts you can receive calls and texts, if you have a higher budget then try something else if not this phone is as good or as bad as any.

I suspected exactly that, Carl.
I am considering this phone, too. Most of my friends have Apple and Samsung high ends (that what's absolutely dominates the market here in Singapore), some of them are already on the 3. device while I still have my 2 yo crappy beaten-up Zenfone 5 ... it's as well not without flaws but surprisingly solid. I'm 100% off the high end stuff. The time we payed high end money and really got something feelably and visably better is long over. Yep, more money buys me better, but now it's not always, and not 3 - 4 times better.

Fingerprint sensor replacement

Hi guys,i ordered the phone before about half a year ago,and once i received it it was my first phone with a fp(fingerpring sensor) and i was so hyped about it so i played with it all day, after about 2 days it just stopped working,no rom problem no nothing,it just broke, and i got used to it and used a pattren instaed although it worked perfectly while it worked, and I'd really want it to come back,so today while browsing aliexpress i thought about it and saw this
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Bac...id=baedde05-db07-4a08-a385-9a1bcd59e493&tpp=1
So my question is,if ill order it,and tear the phone down according to a le 2 teardown tutorial(They look about the same,i think they're about the same except for the hardware),and replace the fp scanner, will it theoretically work?I want that scanner really bad.
I mean like,it didn't literally broke,it just wont respond anymore on any rom whatsoever.
So, did you replace it? What was the result?

BLA-L29 8.0.0.140(C432) coming with Face-Unlock

All,
just installed am firmware -available on Funky Huawei- and surprisingly recognized that this FW is coming with Face-Unlock....
Unfortunately, when trying to set-up face recognition I am always getting a message "face-criteria not recognized". Ok tried with with different distances, lightning, moved, unmoved etc....but without any sucess.
Did anybody tried Face-Unlock as well and can advice how to get it set?
THX!
---------solved------just tried it some more times....but finally this feature is coming to the Mate 10------
after a couple of hours, I can say it works great and with the right settings you only need to lift up the phone and it is unlocked....nice fature, hopefully it will be OTAed officially soon!
Funky Huawei down it seems would like to try this
Not paying what they want for 5 credits, only want 1, what a rip off ! I'll wait for firmware finder to get the 140 update.
I notice that my phone is more quick with this update
Can this be ported to C567?

The software update that just got released a day or 2 ago sorts the issue

I had the same issue, even after updating to the new firmware. what i did was i restored/reset (Repaired) via the Xperia companion app. Now at least for me the fingerprint reader works flawless every single time.
So if formatting your phone is an option for you, that should work. (Was a pain re-installing all apps and re-setting all logins and all, but this really ironed out lot of issues for me)
I am on June update and I can tell you that formatting the device does NOT help. I don't have the July update yet to say if that they fixed the issue.
I hate the fact that it doesn't recognize my FP. It feels like Xperia Z5 all again. Then again FP is so deep seated and it's really difficult to use it when there's a case on.

Will update the result of update if the new firmware hit my region.
So far my fingerprint work flawless as it should be after no reason lol.
Xperia 1 - July Firmware FPR Lag Solved/Fixed
As i mentioned before, after the july firmware my FPR works mostly every single time. I guess every phone is different or maybe you can try what i did, it may just work for you.
I did a factory reset using the "Software repair" function in the Xperia Companion with the latest firmware, now the UI is amazingly smoother and the FPR reader works flawlessly.
I have made a small video showing exactly how good the reader works now. If you have the time please watch it and also follow the steps mentioned above if you have the time to restore all the apps and setting, but trust me its better than just living with an awful finger print function.

did you already reset your phone after update?

To me alone with touching it is already unblocked

I'm on August update and I get this frequently. There is a bug somewhere on this and when I hit the fingerprint issue, I just restart the phone and its perfect again (well after initial pin login due to reboot haha)
It's quite annoying but haven't had time to figure it out. Something with music app running while locked or?

Question Am I the only one who things the FP recognition has got worse since Dec update?

I eagerly installed the Dec 2021 update on my Pixel 6 a couple of weeks back - hoping to improve the FP pass rate.
But I am convinced its gotten worse.
It seemed better at first - but soon deteriorated...
Since the update, whilst it still unlocks on the 1st attempt occasionally, I am finding far more instances where it completely fails to recognise my FP and I am forced to put my PIN number in to unlock.
Prior to the update, it would unlock more often on the 1st attempt - otherwise it may have taken 2-3 attempts to unlock and very rarely I would have to enter the PIN.
Same here! adding more of the same finger did not help!
It was better or about the same from 13/12 until 25/12, and now I hardly can use it. have to enter password all the time.

I am not sure where you are located geographically, but in the northern hemisphere it is now winter. As such the overall humidity levels (particularly indoors) tends to be very low and skin is drier. What you may be seeing is your skin seasonally drying out - and the P6 is terrible at reading dry fingerprints.

can confirm, i live in Vermont and the finger print reader takes 4-6 times to register..everytime. used to do it in 1-2 before the temp dropped. its by far the most frustrating part of this phone so far.

I had a feeling about this - but never had the same issue with my previous OnePlus phones with screen based FP reader.
Also, the back sensor on cheap Oppo phone or basic Nord N100 work fine - unlock first time...
Did anybody here read the other 8+ threads here in the Pixel 6 thread about the finger print reader. ?
Just curious, why no one found any help there....
Not looking for help, just sharing and trying to get an idea of other people's experiences post Dec update.

Back sensors use different technology than in screen ones.

I think his point was that there are a half dozen FPR threads already and another is not really needed. Why not find an older one and update that? Wouldn't that make more sense?
Worst FPR ever put on a phone
Ok this is beyond a joke now. Why in the hell would these morons remove face unlock only to add the absolute worst fingerprint reader I've ever dealt with on any phone I've ever owned. I never thought I'd consider going back to pin unlock...

Just installed a glass screen protector and FPR won't recognize
I did the steps people have said to do like increase touch sensitivity and re add all the fingers I would use but it still won't work. I don't know who made this protector since I got it off a marketplace site and when I met with the person all...

As you will note, I mentioned that multiple OnePlus phones with screen based sensors worked fine for me.
I am also aware that back sensors use different tech - the point was that cheapo bottom of the range phones have no problems with fingerprints - so why does my £600 phone not work as well. It's not good enough.

Because some are pre update, and some of the post update threads are more concerned with who has received the update and who has not.
Seriously don't understand the problem, I create a thread with a very specific question and suddenly I am took to task for it...woah....
No problem in the fingerprint department for me since Dec update. It is almost perfect now. Very rare to get failed reads.
If only I had some cell signal though

Sent it back for a refund.
I would not put up with all the troubles that you are having.
My P6 works good before the December update and after the December update.
As said multiple times in the

I would love to - but its been over 2 months since I ordered it. I foolishly hoped that Google would fix it ASAP - and the 1st attempt has been less than satisfactory...Wish I had returned it within the 30 days...
There seems to be some hope of a workaround... Fingerprint Reader tip
