Can the Tab S7 be a proper Laptop replacement? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 / S7 Plus Questions & Answer

Hi all, long time since I posted on XDA.
Was planning to buy the Tab S7 as a replacement of my old laptop. I'm a lawyer so most of my work on my laptop revolves around MS Office apps, lots of research using Chrome and reading/creating PDF documents.
Would the Tab be a proper replacement for my laptop in this use case? Planning to buy a third party keyboard and mouse and additional nibs for the S-Pen for maintaining full functionality. Thanks!

Might I ask why?

depends what you do with your laptop. I find the 10-11 inch tablets too small for multiwindow, the Tab s7+ is close to being usable with multiwindow. Also the keyboard on the smaller tabs is hard to use, and again the s7+ keyboard is borderline and far too expensive. I do find myself reaching for my laptop a lot less with the s7+ that I did with any of my other tablets, but at least for me it's still missing some things I need my laptop for and Remote Desktop to Windows is still not great. I'm an engineer so coding tools are still hard to come by on android(and IOS). I also use Resolve video editing which it nice on my 4k 15.6 in i7. Not really doable on android yet.

It absolutely can be used as a laptop replacement. I use it that way. Most of the stuff I do can be done using Android versions of apps (EG: Word, Excel) either in native mode or DeX. For stuff that needs Windows I remote in to a Lenovo Tiny I have set up at home where I get full access to Windows for heavy duty productivity (EG: complex spreadsheets, intricate web apps).
The S7+ keyboard is great with little compromise and I use s Bluetooth mouse because I'm faster with it than a track pad. Using the Tab S7+ as a laptop replacement also provides the bonus of having a great media tablet for media consumption. Mine's 5G so I have anywhere access too.
If all you're doing is PC intensive stuff than you're better off with a real laptop. If you're looking for a hybrid productivity and media device the S7+ is great. I've used Galaxy Tabs this way since the NotePRO 12. The difference now is that the SoC, RAM, display and app quality make the productivity experience so much tighter.
Here's mine running Windows via RDP.

Kinda depends on what you're doing with it. MS Office works fine as long as you don't mind paying the monthly fee. I actually prefer the tablet for pdfs because you can write on them to sign and edit. Browsing on chrome works fine (as you would expect). Samsung DEX is great, but it has a few quirks. Nothing major. I'd get the samsung keyboard case though. It attaches quickly and the keyboard just works. The bluetooth keyboards sometimes run out of battery and can take a few seconds to connect each time. The downsides to the samsung keyboard are that it isn't back-lit and it isn't cheap. The backlit part has never been an issue for me because the tablet screen provides plenty of illumination at night.

Xperia S as tablet

Hello.
I was thinking of buying a tablet, but since I bought the xperia s phone, I am thinking if it is possible to use the hdmi out of the phone to a larger, portable monitor and use it as a tablet.
Do you know where i could get a lightweight monitor with capabilities of hdmi in so I can hack it into a diy "tablet".
I am considering to use the display only for output i.e no touch screen, although that would be good.
So basically you're looking for a battery powered TV with HDMI input ? something like this
Well yes,but in not that price range
I am thinking of composing one with various components from tablets, but I don't know how a tablet or laptop monitor can be connected to an hdmi adaptor and work without the use of a motherboard or a graphics card.
I don't see the point of a larger display just to connect to your phone considering that it is possible to get a 9.7" IPS screen dual core android tablet for under US$250.. Check pandawill. Look for the Amlogic -MX chipset or the rockchip RK30XX series.
Heck, they even offer ICS to boot.
I dont think you will be able to find exactly what you are looking for, I but I have an idea for you to consider. The Morotola Atrix has a LapDock accessory. This is basically an 11" screen, a usb keyboard / mouse and a huge battery all rolled into one. Someone on the forum has taken the rear apart and it is basically just a micro USB and micro HDMI cable. He plugged his Xperia in and it just worked. Phone will not charge off the battery while the HDMI is enabled, but everything else is fine.
Now, these devices retail for about £300, but recently 2 retailers in the UK have been selling them for £42 and £48, probably because the Atrix is outdated now.
I very nearly took the plunge myself, but I already have a 14" laptop and an iPad

Something to consider.
BigPhil this is exactly what I was looking for.
Since I don't want to spent much money in buying a Windows tablet now, considering the windows 8 tablet release this year, the Morotola Atrix LapDock would do the job.
Do you have any links for the £42 and £48 UK shops?
Sure, but it looks like both offers have ended.

Worth checking that site periodically
Edit: I have just checked eBay and there are loads £40-£75 on there. Good a place as any to start, perhaps pick up a case at the same time.
Umm... this one ?

How well could you fit an S into the Lapdock? Any S users have one?(Pics pls).
At that price its well worth it.

Recommended bluetooth keyboards??

Hi guys, I was wondering...which bluetooth keyboards work well with the Prime.
What would you recommend???
If you need a keyboard for the Prime, I would recommend the Asus Keyboard dock made specifically for use with the Prime. Not only is it a decent small keyboard, but the extra battery life, Prime specific function keys and full sized USB port make it more useful than any standalone keyboard.
If you don't want the Asus keyboard dock, in order to help you find a keyboard that meets your needs it would be helpful to know what your specific needs are.
Do you want something ultra portable?
Do you want a full-sized keyboard?
Do you need a track pad?
Etc.
I wouldn't want to buy the keyboard dock, I think it's way overpriced ( 130 euros is the cheapest I've found in the eu ) and you can't use it in portrait mode, right?
As far as portability is concerned, I'd definitely need sth quite portable but not really tiny, you know..
So, NO trackpad and a blend between portability and comfort while typing

As whacko suggested, the keyboard dock has so many benefits, that, while it's more expensive, I'd still recommend it.
The ability to add battery life, fold closed and use as a quasi-net book, keys specific to the Android OS make it a natural choice!
The other choice, if you're set on not getting a dock (they've come down in price, here in the U.S.) might be the Celluon Magic Cube. It's remarkably portable, allowing you to simply carry a small box with you, then projects the images of a keyboard on the table your TP is on.

I personally use a Logitech K750 keyboard. Solar powered, so you don't ever need to worry about batteries going dead, and it has very nice keyboard feedback (something, obviously, the Magic Cube lacks!), and is also much less then the first two options.
However, while thin and light, it IS rather long, so not the most practical to carry around and transport.
Sorry... these are the best options I know of.
Thanks for the info man! I do have the K750, it's a great keyboard, but I'd prefer sth smaller
That magic cube sounds interesting, I think I'll check it out
Hey,
This may not be the best place to post this but seemed kinda relevant.
I recently saw the Iogear multi-link bluetooth keyboard which I thought looked pretty cool. (Can't post the link yet...spam filters)
At home I have a tablet stand next to my computer monitor, and I've been playing around with extending my desktop onto my Prime and stuff like that, but I'd also like to use them separately.
I loved the idea of having a bluetooth keyboard I could use for both, not that it needs to be portable, but so I can sit on my bed and use it etc. and also, having one that could be used for both seems awesome.
The thing is, I would like it to replace my current keyboard for my PC, and I'd go mad without a numpad, and the mouse tracker just looks nasty. Does anybody know of a bluetooth keyboard/mouse setup which can be linked to multiple devices (including the transformer prime) and switched between with relative ease?
I bought a Microsoft 6000 bluetooth portable mini keyboard that's notebook size. It's a tad wider than the prime. The nice thing about it, stores like Staples and Office Depot probably carry them. So you can actually go into the store and hold them, look them over, etc. It also comes with a bluetooth number pad in a little carrying case and it's separate, so you can leave it packed away if you don't need to use it.
I bought this keyboard for my stepdad for a different tablet, and it was about a year ago I think. Now I'm sure there's a newer model number, I'll have to do a search in just a bit. Back when I bought it, there was a Microsoft 6000 Notebook Wireless Keyboard (bluetooth) and a 6000 Desktop USB keyboard, so if you google it and see different results or specs it's because it's not the portable laptop size version.
I know where the keyboard is, today sometime I will test out how it's working with the prime for you. I bet you could order the same model really cheap on ebay but since it's a good bit older, we need to check and make sure it works well.

Samsung EE-CP90

Just saw that Samsung is selling the EE-CP905 Bluetooth keyboard (Pic below). Kinda like the leather look and the fact that it's thin. The Logitech one seemed nice, but too thick. Anyone have any experience with this keyboard?
Here in the Netherlands it's being offered for around 129 euros, which seems a bit too much. Is it worth it? Any reviews, pros, cons?

I purchased this keyboard with my Note 12.2 a couple of days ago. I have been using it pretty regularly over the last couple of days while setting the tablet up. So far I like it very much, it has been the best Tablet keyboard I have used so far and it really responds well to the tablet.

NO it does not protect the back of the tablet; it works as a front shell & keyboard. I can tell you this that this keyboard is hard to find, it is not on the Samsung Website and I think it is a limited run item that was produced for the launch of the tablet. Chances are if you do not get one now you may never see it available again.
It pairs easily to the tablet; it stays connected very well and it responds instantly even when you have not touched the tablet for a couple of hours. You have only one angle in which the tablet is held into the keyboard; however it is at the perfect angle for viewing the tablet while working. They keys are low profile but they feel very solid and I have not found any issues with this keyboard so far.
Again... I have only had it for a couple of days so this information is based on what I know so far!

It's nice, I am keeping mine. The only real downside to me is that I do not like using the note without a case, and you cannot just flip the note over and have it still lock in place on the keyboard. That said, it does work well with any case which leaves the bottom of the Note open (like the Moko). Far superior to the Zagg.

I paid $88 for it here in the US. I purchased it on-line from B&H Photo and Video (free delivery). It is much sturdier than the zagg keycase cover that is being sold by Best Buy. I think it is great. It forms a protective case for the tabley. Has the same faux leather covering. The only drawback is that it is not true docking keyboard. But for what it is, I think it is great.
It comes bundled in México in the 32gb SM-P900 even the package show it in the picture, it's a great product, serves as a nice cover for protect the screen and a great dock, the faux leather finish is the same of the tablet back.
Hi
I know it's an old thread but I just bought the keyboard, tested it a bit and I was wondering if anyone had an idea how to disable the word tips that display in the bottom of the screen while typing. I make very few mistakes and don't really need it. the problem is that the top of the screen is cut off a bit because of that otherwise it wouldn't bother me much

[Q] Xperia Z2 tablet touch Issues !

Does anyone know that Xperia Z2 Tablet works with Stylus ? I mean regular tablet stylus like Wacom bamboo, Adonit Jot, etc.
I've seen a video on YouTube that shows it doesn't work well on it and we should push it so hard to work. is that true ?
Well I have the Bamboo Stylus pro(5mm) and I apply medium pressure on the screen for nice strokes so its kinda in between - not to hard but not to soft either.
So its alright

But in my experience it's not good at fine, detailed strokes like those you need for taking notes or writing a letter.

Exactly, I have a Wacom Intuos 4 tablet for professional digital painting but my idea was to sketch and paint some simple designs with this little handy tablets. by the way would you tell me that is the stylus functionality as good as Samsung note 10.1 2014 ?
If it is notetaking that you want then this tablet I am afraid is not for you if your going to use words by a stylus instead of a BT keyboard. It is usable of course but in no way can you make fine strokes that are as tiny as with a real pen. I have a surface pro 2 and that one is specifically made to support to these things.
For me I would choose a Surface Pro every day if I wanted a good tablet with pen support and the Galaxy note is a close second, so to answer your question - no, stylus support on the Z2 will never be as good as the Galaxy Note's because of the fact that one has real pen support and the other one doesn't.
I hope that helps you in your decision

I bought a Samsung capacitive stylus (from this site fonejoy.com/genuine-samsung-t365-galaxy-tab-active-stylus-pen-gh98-34603a.html ) with the intention of using it on the Galaxy View. However, it doesn't work on Galaxy View. It's mind boggling because this stylus comes with the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active and is supposedly an ordinary capacitive stylus (source: sammobile.com/2014/09/25/samsung-galaxy-tab-active-hands-on ) . Does a capacitive stylus work on the Galaxy View???
