hello guys sorry for my english...i recently unlocked the booloader of my v30 h930, but when i try to enter twrp recovery after flashing the image via fastboot comands,i found this frustrating message "factory data reset is disabled by kill switch"...is there any thing to do ?? thanks again
Odd. Did you flash the twrp image, and then boot the image? as per the WTF instructions?
What command, specifically, are you entering, and then getting this message?
Sounds like twrp didn't install. Make sure you go through all the steps from WTF correctly

Normally we only see that on U.S. T-Mobile H932 which has crappy McAfee installed. Has to be uninstalled before factory reset or you get that error message. Do you have something like that installed?

Personally I have never seen that McAfee stuff on my H932, but maybe it's something you have to deliberately install first.
But we have had others report about this error. As I have posted before, I think it is just "something" (McAfee or whatever) trying to save you from wiping the phone in a way that would trigger Android Factory Reset Protection: The entire point of FRP is to render the phone useless to anyone but the legitimate owner, in case it is wiped from outside the OS while an account is active in the OS. That is a sensible protection. I always wondered why LGs Master Reset (using the buttons) doesn't warn about this before proceeding with its wipe.
But if indeed the error reported by OP is caused by such "protection against unintended triggering of FRP" then the solution should be to remove the Google account in the OS before performing any actions that would wipe the phone outside the OS (LGUP, Master Reset, TWRP etc). Alternatively, perform a Factory Reset from inside the OS first, which also will remove the account in a way that doesn't trigger FRP.
Arguably, this should be mentioned in the various root/WTF/Frankenstein guides, since FRP can have unintended consequences, say in case a user flashes the phone back to stock before selling it or sending it in for repair, and doesn't remove his/her account first. In that case the phone will (or should) demand that the same account be entered on first boot -- and the new owner or repair center would be stuck.
But maybe LGUP Refurbish mode clears FRP, and that's why we don't get more complaints about it...
I apologize if this turns out to be completely unrelated to the error reported by OP
Don't worry I've been through this problem and solution ia simple.
-Boot the phone in normal.
-Plug in the usb cable in your phone and connect to the computer.
-Then type "adb reboot bootloader". When u boot into fastbooot then type "fasboot boot recovery or whatever u named the file.
-Then u will boot into twrp.
I was sold a refurbished v30 off Amazon that had this kill switch enabled also when trying to go into TWRP. I had to return it because it might have been stolen.

I bought a V30 on ebay, is a LS998 Frankenstein, the problem is that the installed ROM is the AS998 and not the US998, it has the kill switch problem. Some way to solve it? I can not access fastboot and I can not install the ROM US998 from LGUP. I tried installing the KDZ US998 from LG UP with Partition UP option but it does not boot. Some way to return to the LS998 ROM?

There are no public LS998 KDZ available.
Which US998 KDZ did you try? If you read the Frankenstein instructions you need to start with US998 Nougat first.
Yes, of the North America V30 variants, only US998 has full fastboot flash commands.

The phone came with the ROM AS99820b (Oreo) :crying:, try to install US99810d and US99820b KDZ. Only the Partition DL option works in the LGUP application, but the phone not boot. The other options show Error: 0x4, Not support cross model download AS998 to US998 . Do you know any way to jump to the US ROM?

I ran across this before where some dealer probably used Octopus box to convert LS998 to AS998 and the new owner couldn't then convert to anything else...
All I can suggest is you try Board DL or Refurbish mode.
Is wiping the system partition the same thing as factory data reset? Will that trigger ye' old kill switch?
I ask, because I've run into the cross-flash warning once before while trying to flash US998 while on VZ996. To get rid of that message, I simply wiped my system partition in TWRP and was then able to use LGUP with the US998 KDZ.
So if you can wipe your system partition, then maybe it will get you to a spot where you can kdz?
I got it!
After many attempts, use a LGUP that I found in the LG G7 forum, the difference is that it was from CLI, restore the KDZ Nougat, when restarting appeared a screen with the android doll and the text without command. The next step was not clear, I pressed all the buttons with different convincing. The phone restarted several times and remained in the same window, in one of those attempts I went to the LG logo and to the initial configuration, the phone was blocked by google. Surely this is the reason why the seller installed the ROM AS998.
Turn off the phone and from LGUP update to the Oreo version. Again the error of blocking by google. On YouTube I found a tutorial to bypass this step. Now I am in the US99820b version. I followed the steps to unlock the bootloader, I had a problem with the USB cable, I must use a good quality cable. The problem of the message "factory data reset is disabled by kill switch" continues, but I can enter TWRP from fastboot.
I will try to install a ROM from TWRP and see if the message disappears.

You can also enter TWRP using the Recovery Reboot app I recommend in the WTF instructions.
US998 20B is old (but necessary for bootloader unlock). You should update to US998 20H. Download 20E, 20F, 20G, 20H and dirty flash back-to-back, using TWRP auto queue function -- with flashing Magisk last.

NO. You need to be on newest firmware before flashing any AOSP/Lineage ROMs due to recent changes. That's where people mess up. They try to go from old Oreo or even Nougat (H932) firmware to custom ROMs. You need foundation of newest firmware. Read post #2 of this sticky:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/root-v30-t3927154
A whole lot of recent posts in Lineage are about people not updating their stock firmware first.
Here's the US998 KDZ/TWRP-flashable thread:

I face similar issue when I reset my phone (also h932) and then TWRP deleted and replaced by stock recovery. I tried to install twrp again via lafsploit method no luck. my phone not detected on my PC. so I decide to download LG Bridge and perform an update (I assume that your phone can boot android). If your phone is already running 30d pie then click update error recovery (see image below). If you still on older version you can update to recent version without update error recovery

yes, i did it with unlocked bootloader. in my case, i could enter download mode but my pc couldn't detect any device. have you tried to enter download mode manually? what's look like? mine says "unknown 0/0/0"
if you never try to flash laf partition with another things (e.g stock laf or twrp), it might be still using h933 laf, and that means you can try to flash twrp using fwul

Reposting this here for visibility:
Hello all. So I am having a similar issue. I was already running a stock rom and I flashed the stock laf from the stock H932 thread. However, I noticed that the latest laf version from that thread doesn't match the latest firmware. I'm not sure if that was the cause but I lost my download mode abilities and twrp recovery (booting into recovery shows "no command". My bootloader is still unlocked and the device will boot into the stock system but download mode freezes whenever accessed meaning I can't use either oreo or pie LGUP to repair it. It shows Unknown B79 and says Unknown / E / L / RO at the bottom. Does anyone have an idea on if there is anything I can do to restore download mode? I noticed I have Would it cause problems to relock the bootloader at this point, as I would like to relock it with the coming changes to safetynet. Thank you for any help.
I don't have any suggestions other than what was already posted in the H932 root thread.
1) If you're NOT already on Pie, you should be offered an OTA update, which will repair Download mode (at least previous OTA updates did that).
2) If you're already on Pie, you need that Pie OTA file which everybody is looking for. Force flashing that with LGUP in FOTA mode (inside the OS) should also repair Download mode (at least previous OTA updates did that).
Do NOT relock the bootloader unless the phone is completely, 100% stock. Otherwise you'll get a brick on next boot, when signature checks are performed on all partitions. As I understand, this will blow a Qfuse, which is irreversible.

Thanks for the info. I'm already on pie. It seems the .up file is nowhere to be found. I can use the phone as is but with the bootloader unlocked I'm hoping that I won't be affected by the supposed upcoming safetynet changes. Is there no other way to repair the laf partition besides getting a hold of a file it seems no one has? Thanks for your help.

I do understand. But remember that Qualcomm, LG and T-Mobile all went out of their way to make sure that this phone was locked down and un-rootable. They stripped flash and boot commands from fastboot. And they choose RSA signatures different from all the other V30 models, so that it would be like a prison island in the middle of the ocean.
The only reason we can still root it at all, is because of a massive effort by a brilliant and knowledgeable Dev, who reverse engineered the boot and laf code. And he found this narrow path to let us root it.
But that doesn't mean the H932 just rolls over and starts to cooperate with us: It's still designed to make it as difficult as possible for us to do what we're trying to do. And it is very unforgiving of any mistakes.
So once both TWRP and Download mode and root (in the OS) are gone, there's not much left to fix the situation. The only thing left is LGUP FOTA. But it requires an OTA file. Several were posted for Oreo, but none so far for Pie.
Anybody with an H932 and enough time on their hands can capture it, if they're willing to roll back to Oreo (losing their data) then update again using OTA.

I understand, and I am also very grateful for the work put in by that dev and the many others here on xda who help other users out. Perhaps some generous person will be able to do like you mentioned and be able to capture the OTA link. Just out of curiousity, what would that process look like? Roll back to oreo via lgup? And then what would be the best way to capture the link? Could it be done without root? Thanks again for your input.

Yes, roll back to Oreo with LGUP. The best way to do that is via Nougat in Partition DL mode, in order to rewrite the partition table. Then to Oreo from there, Upgrade mode should work.
Then trigger the OTA (if it doesn't come right away) by changing the date forward a few days at a time.
Once the OTA is offered, there is a process to capture the link. I've never done it myself. The OP posted a link in post #1, but XDA scrambled it for the benefit of... well, someone, we'd hope. Google should be able to find it.
One thing I forgot: You can also try LG Bridge Recovery mode, if you haven't already. Some reported it fixed their Download mode, others say it requires Download mode. Worth a try. See post #2.
Edit: Capturing the OTA does NOT require root, that much I remember. I seem to recall you just search through logcat file immediately after starting the OTA download. But again, I haven't done it myself.

Yea, I tried LG Bridge but I ran into the same problem as LGUP. When the phone reboots to enter download mode it freezes in download mode. It does the same thing when I manually enter download mode. I tried different ports, cords, pcs etc. all the same outcome.
However, I may be able to get ahold of another H932 so that I can possibly try my hand at capturing the ota link. I have to be more careful with this one, haha. It was never rooted or bootloader unlocked and I have no intention of doing that. Does it still need to be rolled back to nougat to rewrite the partitions if it was always stock? If so, then I would flash Nougat_h93210c_00_1017.kdz in Partition DL mode selecting all partitions, then flash Oreo_h93220h_00_0416.kdz (in Partition DL mode selecting all partitions again?) and then capture the update url when I get it via adb, correct?
The H932 handset that lost twrp and download mode was last flashed with one of the latest twrp flashable roms based on the kdz and not the actual stock kdz so I hope it still has a chance of working, but at the very least hopefully I can capture the ota url for some other's benefit.
That's a good plan, including the bit about being extra careful
I would first perform a Factory Reset (from Settings menu) while still in Pie. This will save you from FRP and possibly other issues. Then LGUP Partition DL back to Nougat 10d, using the latest Dev Patched LGUP from one of ChazzMatt's threads. Then reboot. If any problems Master Reset (Button Dance). Then LGUP Upgrade to latest Oreo 20s. Reboot.
Make sure you know what to do when you get the OTA offer BEFORE you get it.
I think there's a good chance you'll be able to salvage your other H932. It doesn't have to be completely stock for LGUP FOTA to restore Download mode. At least that's what others reported.
And posting that Pie OTA will be a great help for many people!
Edit: Of course there IS a risk to the unlocked phone. People have had issues going back and forth to Pie. Just saying...

Yes, I have taken a look at the steps to capture the link and they seem simple enoughto just use adb logcat while the ota downloads. But I just want to clarify beforehand... When I use LGUP to partition dl back to nougat I think I should be selecting all partitions, but when I go from nougat to oreo should I be using partition dl again and selecting all partitions once again? Just want to verify, thanks.

I had suggested the Upgrade mode for going from Nougat to Oreo, but you can do Partition DL too. In fact, that may be best since you're going straight from 10d to 20s. Yes, all partitions.
@ChazzMatt: You sometimes warn about going straight up to the latest Oreo. Any thoughts here? Particularly coming from Pie in the first place?

OK, so I flashed the stock phone and got to the point of running logcat. Nothing showed up in the logcat so I used the Take Bug Report method. I found two different ota file urls in the log. One of them was repeated more often so I think that is the correct one. However, I am unsure as to how I should proceed now. Do I need an .up file in order to use fota on the phone with no download mode? Did I perhaps grab the wrong zips? The zips appear to contain all the ota partition files. Trying to use the zip results in a "Windows cannot find WPDAPI.exe" error and an MTP is not running error. Granted this is the LGUP version that i just used to flash the stock phone successfully.

Three different solutions.
1) Reinstall full image KDZ as "Upgrade". This will keep your data. If that doesn't work...
2) Factory Reset. This will wipe your data, but will clear everything. If that doesn't work...
3) Reinstall full image KDZ in Refurbish mode.

No, rooting is not required.
We have KDZ for several variants posted here in this forum. Or you can go to LG-Firmwares.com.
What variant do you have?

Also in Developer Options, try changing all your animation transitions to .5x and turning on GPU Render.
See attached screenshot.

Where did you get the LGUP from?
Use the Dev Patched LGUP from any of the Pie KDZ threads and read the installation instructions carefully.
Like from here. Ignore it's a post about downgrading. Just use the Dev Patched LGUP from that post and follow the Dev Patched LGUP installation instructions.

Uninstall/remove any prior version. This means also going to Programs//LG Electronics/LGUP and deleting that folder.

Well, finally I did it! Thanks a lot.
But, I hoped that choosing option "Reinstall full image KDZ as "Upgrade" will "keep your data" and it didn't.
All my data disappeared.

Strange. "Upgrade" option (not Refurbish or Partition DL) should have kept your data if flashing the same region firmware.
As per my previous post.. Upon further investigation I added Home to baterry optimization exclusions and sort of removed the issue.. I'll keep digging into it as it bothers me a lot ?
does this solution work for the V30 ThinQ?

Hi ,
Having the same issue with my v30 thinQ. It was only a slight delay before but has gotten worse and delay is much longer. The home page does come back but takes a long time, degrading my ability to use the phone. Would I apply the same KDZ upgrade from the same post you mention. I am not a developer but have had my v30 for several years and have my home page just the way I want it and don't want to lose it. I don't have the battery saver feature on.
Thanks

Yes, why wouldn't it? This is the XDA V30 forum.
If you think "ThinQ" is some kind of special V30, it's not. That's just the silly name LG stuck on ALL V30 variants updated past Nougat.
For V30, "ThinQ" just means you are not on original Nougat, but have updated at some point to Oreo or Pie. It was supposed to denote the A.I. camera software that came with Oreo and above. The V30S variants were the first "JOAN" device to get updated to Oreo from the factory, but all V30 eventually got Oreo updates. So ALL V30 are "ThinkQ".
The post-Nougat A.I.ThinQ camera is great, another reason to NOT stay on Nougat, but still a very stupid name. Not even pronounced "ThinK" -- which would sort of make sense for Artificial intelligence, but instead LG actually pronounces it "Thin... Q".
My answer quoted above is for all V30, no matter what stock firmware they are on. You don't say what variant you have (H930DS, VS996, US998, etc), but I would suggest last Oreo (very stable) for your variant or perhaps last Pie -- but not Pie for US998. For US998 I would say stick with US998 20H (last Oreo).

If everything else works except the Home screen, you could also try to just wipe data for the EasyHome app in the Settings/General/Apps & notifications/App Info menu. Worth trying.
If I were you, I would make a backup first using the Settings/General/Backup/Backup & restore menu. Most people overlook this great LG Backup tool, which can backup all app data and most systems and settings data. You can select what to backup and restore.
In case you have to factory reset or flash it clean, you can restore most of your phone data and settings from that backup. Of course save your Internal Storage to a PC or SD card or USB stick before wiping, including that LG Backup file.
So, I've been having a lot of stability issues on my phone which has been running on a ROM which I flashed back in December of 2019. I'm fuzzy on the details of just what I did back then, but according to Software Info in About Phone it's a Pie ROM, Software Version US99830b, build PKQ1.190414.001.
I haven't had time to follow the LG V30 scene at all since then, and likely won't be able to keep up with it in the future either. So for the sake of stability when I reflash it this time, I don't want to bother with having Root or anything fancy. I have a vague recollection of some LG bloat/spyware that was important to remove for performance/battery life, but aside from that, I just want a stock experience this time around.
Coming back to the forum, I saw the thread about carriers, VoLTE, and ROMs, and while I'm not sure I've absorbed all the important details about that upon reading through it, that's going to be a concern for me as well, so I should mention I'm on T-Mo and plan to be for a while.
So I was wondering if anyone could please point me in the direction of just what steps I should be taking this time around?
Temporarily flash back to Nougat US998 KDZ to erase the effects of Pie.
Then flash to last Oreo US998 20h which is very stable. (I'm on rooted last Oreo US998.)
Use "Refurbish" or "DL Partition" to flash the KDZ. Then you no longer have root.
Your bootloader will still be unlocked. If you want to lock it back, follow these instructions. Do NOT relock the bootloader until you have re-flashed the full KDZ and no longer have TWRP custom recovery. You have to be back 100% stock (even recovery partition) to re-lock the bootloader without bricking the phone.
Personally, I would not do that but at that point (on US998 20h) just reinstall TWRP and Magisk and remove the LG spyware.
LGUP throws an "Error:SPC Code does not match. Please, try again." whenever I try to do anything with it.

You are using the Dev Patched LGUP? Also, which mode -- Refurbish or Partition DL (all partitions)?
Using tecknight's dual mode LGUP, in Dev Mode, and I get the SPC Code error message with Refurbish, and with Partition DL, as well as with other options like Dump, or Phonesetting. (Did not try it with the DO NOT TOUCH options like Chip Erase.)

Good you didn't touch Chip Erase.
Yes, Dev Mode is correct with tecknight's dual mode LGUP.
Strange you are getting that error message with both those modes (Refurbish and Partition DL).
Try this .bat file: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...r-instructions.3790500/page-200#post-84374965
If that doesn't work, you may have to try a different computer.
No success with the .BAT, or on the other computer in my household. Still getting "Error:SPC Code does not match. Please, try again." at the 4% mark.
I tried to crossflash my G8X to the US Open A11 software and screwed up quite badly during the process. I've had to restore my phone from having no partitions and do not have the original LUN5 files, only the 7 required for the crossflash. I've also rooted and installed twrp on this device so if anything that could help needs that I'm able to use it.
I expected the fingerprint sensor not to work, however now the light sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, etc. don't work either.
Is there something I can do to get this functionality back? I've mostly given up on fixing the imei and network issues but I would like to at least have the phone in a usable state on Wifi.
If more details are needed please do tell and I will do my best to provide them.

It was originally on version 20p of the sprint software. And yeah, I definitely hadn't quite read up on all of the important things I needed to backup beforehand.

The same thing happened to me, I came from a10 sprint and installed a11 from Canada, I was left without a network and without a fingerprint sensor, but the other sensors work without problem, to fix network and ntcode I think it is only possible by box, I don't know if of the fingerprint sensor is caused by the lack of serial and imei.
if you come up with a solution let me know bro

When you flashed the A10 kdz, you followed netmsm's guide right? Did you get any errors when flashing the partitions with fhloader? When I extracted the kdz a few files were missing from the ones used by that code but every kdz I've extracted doesn't have them either.

yes, the netmsm's guide, fhloader only use it to restore the luns, restore the kdz partitions one by one with qfil, just try what Surgemanxx suggested first and tell me how it goes.

It works very well.I tried 30c,and noticed it was slow and laggy and rolled back to 30b and it worked flawless.Fingerprint scanning and all worked with a T-Mobile sim with no issues. They should be good with 30b,all but the IMEI issue they have.
All right I completely erased the flash again and reinstalled following the steps very carefully. I'm now on 30b and can confirm that the sensors work once again. Although the major issues I think were deeper than just the update, because I updated before doing a full erase and it still wasn't working. Now I just have to keep trying to fix the IMEI and FP sensor.
Also I think I may have found my IMEI number thanks to having the ftm partition backed up and therefore still having the serial number. The first 8 digits are always 35886110 for the LG G8x sprint model (and maybe others in the US), the next 6 are the last 6 digits of the serial and the last one is a check digit that you can look up online. I've checked the number on multiple sites and it seems legit so I hope it's actually my number. Now I'll try to write it to the phone somehow, but at least having the IMEI back is a very big step forward.
IMEI is fixed, or at least it appears as such in the phone. I went through with the tutty method of installing the IMEI, and after much trouble (and tutty saying error to my command to write the IMEI) I was able to restore the IMEI to the phone. I confirmed this first using EFS Pro and going into qualcomm NV tools. The IMEI was still as 0 in my phone but after putting in a sim it appeared in the OS and has stayed there. However it still appears as permanently locked when a sim is inserted and the nt-code error does still happen, so the network doesn't work yet.

That LUNS backup is for the Sprint U.S. model G850UM9.The IMEI is stored in modemst1 and 2 which is LUNS5 that I didn't include for that reason. The NT Code error shouldn't be there if it's the same model/region.Keep me posted.

I've flashed your backups and the NT Code error indeed disappeared. However I've still got the perm locked error (so my doesn't work), and the fp sensor still refuses record fingerprints. Was your phone network unlocked when you made that backup? Idk if that maybe interferes with the sim or something

Yes,it was network unlocked for sure. You're not the only one that has faced this after trying to repair the IMEI.It's perma blocked because it's embedded in the chipset itself, and so far I haven't seen any fix for it as of yet.
