Huawei Mobile Services, or HMS, is Huawei’s alternative to GMS, consisting of user-facing apps as well as core background services. The idea behind HMS is the same as that of GMS — to provide an experience that is consistent across devices and independent of the platform update. HMS Ecosystem has seen its monthly average users increase from 420 Million globally in July 2018 to a huge 530 Million by July 2019, while developers registered on this platform grew from 450,000 to 910,000 in the same time period, and HMS Core app integration grew from 20,000 apps to 43,000 apps. Google does not release figures for its GMS integrations, so getting scale here is difficult against the #1 player, but these are still impressive figures in absolute terms. According to additional figures revealed by Huawei, HMS Core has a global reach of 530 Million users in more than 170 countries (including China), while still providing features such as cost-effectiveness, a unified portal for one-stop integration, and precise user targeting through multiple promotion channels. Huawei also claims to be compliant with international security and privacy standards, including GAPP, GDPR, and local regulations within its ambit.
All of this will merely remain marketing points if HMS Core does not incorporate the APIs that GMS Core provides. In order to be a replacement for GMS Core, HMS Core needs to provide similar, if not better, functionality to developers, if it wishes to persuade them to consider itself as a valid option and migrate over from using GMS Core. HMS Ecosystem is currently limited only to Huawei devices, but even on its own, this is a massive subset of Android devices. Huawei alone has shipped over 200 Million smartphones this year so far, which is a substantially large number for app developers to take notice. As an app developer, it becomes essential to adapt to these devices as well as other Huawei devices that may not ship with GMS in the future. Even if GMS makes a return to Huawei, HMS continues to be part of Huawei’s larger ecosystem strategy, where the smartphone becomes the central focal point that is used to control connected IoT devices. So adapting your app to play well with the HMS Ecosystem does make a compelling business argument. You don’t want to make the same mistakes that Snapchat did when it ignored its Android userbase for years and only woke up to pay attention to them very recently.

App Messaging
This service provides invaluable assistance for refined operations, by sending contextual messages to active users when specific events are triggered, boosting user engagement and stickiness. In-app messages can work in tandem with your app's activities. For instance, if you have a shopping app, it can display a message instructing the user to claim coupons upon repeated taps on an item by a user when authorized or after message subscription by the user. Or if you have a reading app, the app can automatically display messages to intensive users who have read for more than half an hour in a single session, offering a 20% discount off of subscriptions. These types of messages can successfully boost your app's conversion rate.
You have the option of using a pre-set style, or customizing the display of your in-app messages. Image messages are recommended if the content in the message is relatively simple.
Banner messages contain a thumbnail, with the message title and body, and are displayed at the top of the screen. Users only need to tap on the banner message to be directed to the corresponding page.

The editing features are very good and working with all of your different document types is simple. There's lots of potential for Huawei Docs to grow and add features in the future. By tapping a link, the user can directly access the in-app content. Those users who have not installed the app will be redirected to HUAWEI AppGallery for download and installation.
For example, if you are planning a promotion in your app, App Linking can help you place the promotional link on a diverse range of ad platforms. Existing users can then launch the app and open the specific page with just a tap; new users will be redirected to AppGallery to download and install the app, and then to the specific promotional page upon launching the app.
Linking premium in-app content enables you to convert mobile web users into native app users, which provides a way to grow your user base. App Linking also supports tracing parameters, which means that you can view data analysis and trace traffic sources across different channels.
App Messaging: Send contextual messages to engage users.
With the Call Screen app, users can choose from a range of customized incoming call skins, some of which have visual alerts to ensure that important calls aren’t missed. But the developer found that some of the new skins they had released were not being downloaded by very many users, and reviews of the skin were mixed. To address this, the developer used the App Messaging service in AppGallery Connect to notify users of new available skins, after obtaining their consent. Now, when a user signs in, Call Screen provides them with skin recommendations based on their preferences. The service helped increase the number of app users by 11% in just three weeks.
