OK, Im not sure what is causing this. When I am on a phone call and the call is ended, the screen is black. so to wake up the screen I have to hit the Power button on the side of the phone, then I can hang up. (I changed the button on the side from Bixby to Power.). This is really annoying. And it doesnt happen all the time.
Any suggestions?
Try clearing the system cache.
Try a hard reboot (not reset!).
Clear the associated app caches as well.
Clear their data if needed.
Double check all associated settings!!!
Disable all power management.
If you've done a major firmware update a reload is a good idea and might be needed.

My HTC Hero was working fine without incident for quite some time. I did not introduce any software changes to it. But suddenly, for no apparently good reason, I'm seeing two things happening now:
Menu button pressed acts like Home button, no matter what screen you are on (this is terrible, as in some screens the menu button is required to access certain options)
Search button acts like the green call button, bringing up the recent call list and the dial menu.
Volume button decrease goes nowhere. Actually, one click bumps the volume up then down one notch. The increase button is fine. One must click and hold the decrease button to get the volume to go down.
I'm not all that bothered by the volume button, but the menu button is critical.
I searched the Internet extensively and found one other person mention this simultaneous fault of the volume button and menu button. But unfortunately, they weren't able to get a resolution, or they simply never came back to the thread to update.
I did a full shutdown and restart, but no change. The only environmental change has been an increase in humidity. I am by the shore for the weekend. I took my phone kayaking, but it was sealed in a plastic bag and never got wet. But perhaps moisture in the air has something to do with it? It does seem more like a hardware issue than software problem.
Has anyone run into this problem and been able to rectify it?
I discovered another peculiar behavior.
When the phone was idle for some time, I awoke it with the END button, then a screen swipe to get to the main screen. Pressing "Menu" brought up the proper sub menu toolbar. However, going back and pressing it again showed the wrong behavior again (acting like the HOME button).
Then for a stretch of time, if you tapped the menu button lightly and quickly, the sub menu toolbar would appear. A standard button push will cause it to act like the HOME button. But unfortunately, this did not last. I set the phone down, came back later, and this "light tap" would only act like the HOME button.
I did NOT see any erratic behavior prior to this, like the MENU button mostly working fine and only occasionally acting like the HOME button. It was a rather sudden change. Given the behavior, I'm starting to wonder if something has built up inside under the button bezel that is doing this. Perhaps taking it apart and giving it a good cleaning would resolve it?
I've been finding that every once in a while the MENU button function momentarily goes back to normal operation. It's usually after having left the phone untouched for a few hours. But it works just once or twice, then starts behaving like the HOME button. From this behavior, I can't figure out if this is hardware or software related.
Anyway... I don't see anybody having offered a solution for this, either here or on other forums. I guess I'll just have to retire this phone.
I'm really baffled by this very strange behavior.
My Hero is still experiencing this problem most of the time, but sometimes the menu button will work properly. When it does, I can click the button again in the exact same way, and it will stop working right. Other times, I can dismiss the pop-up menu, then click the menu again and it works maybe 2-3 times. Then after that, it's back to the "HOME" button behavior. Once it does it again, I cannot coax it to work properly again, no matter how many different variations I try. I have to wait for a long while before trying again and finding that it works properly again. If it was a hardware problem, the behavior should be pretty random. Given how it behaves, I have to believe this is software. Now... how the software (firmware) could become corrupt like this is beyond me. I'm thinking that maybe restoring the phone back to the original ROM and then rooting it all over again could get things back to normal... anyone reading this agree or disagree?
Try ButtonRemapper: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9399440&postcount=1
If needed, KeynrTracker.apk will allow you to identify the code for individual buttons.

Thanks for the suggestion. But somehow, miraculously, the problem resolved on its own. I guess it must be a hardware issue, as I didn't make any software changes. I can press the menu button repeatedly and it works normally now. Really weird. I guess that perhaps there was some debris or residue buildup inside that eventually worked itself out.
I updated to Lollipop a several days ago through Kies. My battery life was not good so I did a factory reset. I reinstalled my apps and set up the phone the way I wanted it and it worked properly for a couple of days, still not happy with battery life. Yesterday I found that when I set the phone on the wireless charger the wireless charging notification came on lighting up the screen and the screen would not shut off. I googled it and all I find is to go to developer options and uncheck the stay awake which I have done, it was not checked so I checked and unchecked it same thing happens. I restarted the phone several times. I made sure Daydream is off. I uninstalled the last apps I installed. I tried to plug the wire into the phone to charge it same thing happens. I found that if I unlock the phone then set it on the charger it will time off ok, but if a notification comes in the screen lights up and does not shut down. I found that if I push the power button the screen goes off and stays off until a notification comes in and the screen lights up and stays on. My next step is to factory reset again but I wanted to see if anyone has another suggestion before I reset. Any help will be appreciated.
You may try wiping the cache. I'm assuming you didn't have this problem before the factory reset and not immediately after the factory reset. Now this is just a suggestion but I'd try this before I did a factory reset. I'm guessing you are not rooted and you are running stock so your recovery will be stock. To enter recovery power off your phone then while off hold the volume up, power, and home button at the same time. Hold and you'll see "Recovery Booting" in the upper left. You can let go of the buttons now. You should have stock recovery now booted up. Using the volume keys scroll down and pick "wipe cache partition" Use the power button to select. Once it's done and it won't take long. It will be on "Reboot" go ahead and select that. With any luck that may solve your problem.

You are correct that I did not have the problem before or after the factory reset and I am on stock and not rooted. I am trying your suggestions now and will report back thank you.
Thank you for the suggestions however it did not solve the problem, but after I wiped the cache I found that the T-Mobile My Account was staying in the notifications and showing that I was close to my 3GB high speed data. I turned off the notifications and now I have a normal working phone again that shuts off the screen when charging.

Glad to hear it. Yeah, I would have suggested shutting off those notifications just so they don't bother you. Anytime I want to know what T-Mobile has to say I just open up the app and look. I'm on wifi 90% of my time so I don't see using my quota anytime soon.
My sister updated her phone and somehow keep screen on while charging got enabled as well.
I had to enable developer settings (double tap build number 5 times) and uncheck keep screen on while charging.

Same thing happened to my wife's phone.
Little surprised to see this enabled on a pure stock device.
I am not sure if this is a bug with 5.1.1 or not. I tried searched before coming here to post, but I haven't come across a solution yet.
Anyways, my phone doesn't have power saver on, smart stay is off, and I have my security set to fingerprint unlock.
To the issue at hand - My screen doesn't automatically time out if I press the home button or the power button to turn on my screen. In order for the screen to turn off, I have to manually press the power button. Otherwise, the screen just stays on and drains my battery. This wouldn't be too much of an issue if my butt didn't always press the home button while the phone was my pocket.
I'd really hate to factory reset or flash another rom, as I just finished installing all of my apps and whatnot after a phone replacement. However if that is the only option to fix this problem, then I'm okay with doing so.
Thanks ahead of time for reading!
**quick edit** - forgot to mention that if I receive a notification, that it turns my screen on and keeps it on until I press the power button.
I've had my s9+ for like almost a month now, and today it started doing something weird, it started vibrating randomly, I shut it off and the problem was gone, but now everytime I press the Bixby button (that I have disabled) it starts vibrating nonstop so I have to restart my phone. Also now everytime that I unlock my phone it makes a double vibration EVERYTIME, either I unlock it with intelligent scan or my fingerprints. As soon as it launches the main screen it makes a double vibration (like buzz buzz)

Excuse me, and how do I do that? And also if the problem persists what does that mean? And if it doesn't?

To boot into safe mood.
Press and hold the Power button until the Power off prompt appears then release.
Touch and hold Power off until the Safe mode prompt appears then release.
To confirm, tap Safe mode. The process may take up to 30 seconds to complete. ...
if the problem persists
-Try factory reset
- Hardware fault
doesn't?
- Means one of your third party app is causing this

Well, I have done that and the problem is gone, so I'm assuming that it's a third party app just like you said. Now the problem is, I don recall having any new app installed recently...
It looks like malware, I encourage you to do a Factory Reset by Recovery Mode:
With the phone off press Power + Volume up + Bixby button at the same time until you see a blue screen saying installing updates then release the three buttons and navigate with volume keys to Factory Data Reset press power, select yes, power and Reboot System Now.
NOTE: Before doing this backup your data and logout of your Google n/or Samsung Account. If you don't logout you'll be locked out of your phone if you don't remember the password of these accounts because it triggers FRP Protection.
and yes, if u want a straight fix, do a factory reset and monitor every app you install
OR if you are feeling adventure / want to learn more / curiousity
u can go in to device maintenance and do a security scan + check on every single app u installed.
check app like
home launcher,
lock screen,
"change bixby key" app,
those ram/cache cleaner app (this app have a options that when u lock and unlock screen it will clear ram/cache auto - useless in android and battery waster)
or u can screenshot your app drawer here and let us have a look.
I've done the factory reset and the problem is gone, but seriously I don't remember having ANY weird app installed before the reset, anyway the problem is solved and I'm happy thanks a lot to everyone who responded.
Also in another matter, have you gotten the March or even April security patch yet? Because I'm still on February patch...
So my G8X was working normally until all of a shudden today I started facing this bug or whatever it is. So the problem is:
Earlier when I used to touch and hold on Home Screen, it would give me these options like Widgets, Wallpaper&Theme, Home Screen Settings. But all of a sudden today when I tapped and held on home screen my phone got locked. I pressed the power button but my phone wouldn't wake. I realised that whenever I tap and hold on home screen the phone would get lock and show a message "Fingerprint operation cancelled" on the black lock screen above the finger print animation and then to wake it up I have to press the power button two times (only in the case of touch and hold locking) . I thought that phone's "Knock On" Extension was messing with it so I turned it off but to no use. The problem still persisted. I tried clearing cache and then tried clearing cache of "Home" from Apps&Notifications settings but Nada.
At last I did a factory reset and did a fresh setup but to my surprise the problem still persisted. Why the heck is this happening and that too all of a sudden. The functioning of Tap and Hold on home screen for settings was fine all this time and then all of a sudden this started happening.
Can any anybody help? Shed some light?
So I Factory reset it for the second time and it didn't solve the problem. And I noticed that locking phone by pressing power key and pressing it again to wake it up works if I press it in like 5 seconds right after locking it. If I lock the phone and leave it like for more than 5 seconds or so then I'll have to press the power key two times to wake it up. WTH and why has it started happening out of the blues? ??

Dont worry ez solve mate
i uploaded a video mate watch it after reading it https://youtu.be/lnXSBsGdMJQ
There is a sensor in top (near the selfi camera) if it is blocked the phone will think that it is in pocket so it will disable the fingerprint sensor(if you newly installed screen protector may cause the sensor to block ) so it disable fingerprint and double press to screen on
