Can you port windows mobile and the HTC Leo rom / Interface to a UMPC like the Viliv S5 PREMIUM or any other UPMC / Tablet PC I can run Android on PC what about windows Mobile?
Why you may ask would I want a Mobile OS on my UMPC for one Battery life and Speed. I was thinking of getting the Archos android IMT but then I was Introduced to the Viliv S5 PREMIUM and will put android on it but wondered if a HTC Sense UI / Windows Mobile Port could me done
BTW Much respect to all the great XDA Devs Here, I now own a Symbian Mobile phone (Omnia I8910 HD) and wish the Community was as Good as you guys.
The quick answer is "not really". UMPC/Tablet PCs probably pretty much exclusively use x86 based processors, and WM uses ARM based CPUs.
They are not the same architecture at all - even if you could somehow recompile WM for an x86 processor, none of the stuff designed for ARM Windows Mobile would run.

yo the cpu in a umpc is a arm cpu. i have a 7 inch umpc with a arm926 and i have been tring for months to get windows mobile 6.5 with sense in it. i am a administrator for windows so it would be very handy to get this done
Not necessarily, most UMPC's have regular i386 processors, not ARM.

Why would you want to and this belongs in q&a, general or heck even in the Galaxy Tab forum...

Windows NT is what most of the Windows versions that we care about today are based from, including XP and 7. Windows NT supports the x86 and other processor architectures. Unless we can get an x86 emulator, we will NEVER EVER see Windows 7 running on an ARM processor. It is also closed-source, so we can't get the source code to compile to ARM. And the documentation for the kernel and other components of Windows are secretly kept somewhere at Redmond, so even if we get the source, it will be an infinite pain to get everything working for this new architecture (things like HAL, hardware abstraction layer, which is specifically for PC hardware and who Windows depends on heavily). I can't begin to explain everything that will need to be magically fixed in order to get working. Windows 7, or any other Windows version, will never work on a platform that it was not intended to work on (unless, we do get a virtual machine and some hardware compatibility)
Windows CE will be much easier to port since it was intended for mobile ARM computers. If this does happen, we can get Windows Mobile working. But all of this crap is completely non-public, so keep dreaming.
*I probably didn't get everything in this post correct (like the part about HAL) but the conclusion is completely correct. Basically Windows 7 will never reach a device unless it's a PC.
You mean the actual OS or just the theme? There are Windows 7 themes already for Android. And yeah, why would you wanna bother putting Windows on an Android device?
o cool like the title said just a thought but why i would want it on our device is becuase it looked cool running on the tab so and i like windows so i would probably enjoy it

thanks for all of this info i didnt understand lol becuase im not really familure with this type of stuff but from your post what is windows ce? i would really enjow anykind of windows on my device really i just said windows 7 becuase i saw the video thanks for the reply
Dude, seriously you should've just bought a Windows phone like an HD2 or something if you like windows that much.
I mean personally to me, the whole point of buying an android phone is to NOT have a Windows OS or even a Windows GUI..........just sayin.

Nope I love android but what I was saying and suggesting is having both systems running and can switch back and fourth not saying I like windows phones more than android just seeing if it or anything like it,is possible

maybe it is just me, but dual-booting was still cool in 1999, not anymore.
Stick to one OS on the device, be it a PC or a phone.
Last time I cared for Windows was again 1999 when I used UPS software to send the packages, and wished it was upgraded from Windows 3.1 to at least Windows 95 - and then I went to continue my education, and it was the end of the windows era for me
If you want to use both windows and android, why not get an HD2 and have it dual boot?
I'm pretty sure if you saw Windows 7 on the tab then it was probably some kind of remote access software, and not running natively
I've read some threads throughout XDA about emulators but nothing that I want answered, has been. I have a laptop, a pretty nice Medical Tablet currently running Windows 7 (which it was made for XP hehe but it has good enough hardware to run 7). I don't need 7, I just cannot stand the outdated crap.
BUT, the only reason I have that laptop is for automotive tuning. I run 1-2 Programs, very small in size. (http://www.tactrix.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=36&Itemid=58 and http://www.evoscan.com/ <--Android App being designed )
One piece of hardware attaches to the USB port of the laptop called an Open Port 2.0. It requires a couple drivers which I have. And The Android devices I use have the USB Host abilities but require something like a powered hub or powered cable since the Galaxy Tab 10 doesn't have power out.
So my questions are.... is this possible? The Galaxy Tab 10's screen is more than large enough for my needs. I wish they would make an Android Application for the Tuning software. Hell I've been asking for a Linux Application for a while. If I can eliminate my only need for that laptop, I'll sell it and.... IDK buy myself another tab, maybe donate to some of my favorite developers.
what are your thoughts? Is drivers an ability in one of these emulators for say Windows xp? Or anyone wanna port over my tuning software ? lol

I think android will stay in the lead. It already has a huge market for apps, which is what the mainstream user favors... IMHO..
So the whole idea of having a phone that can be put in a dock and used as a computer is really cool, but me and my friend came up with an idea to expand on that. Would it be possible to have both android and Linux on the phone and then have an app/desktop icon to switch operating systems? I know this can be done on other devices. My mate has a chrome book and installed Ubuntu on it. Just a keyboard shortcut will switch operating systems. So would it be possible to do the same thing just on an android device. Hardware wide, there shouldn't be any problems. His chrome book has a cpu that's low spec enough to not have any sort of cooling system/unit whatsoever and only has 4 gigs of ram. Since the ROG phone has a top of the line smartphone processor, an actual cooling unit, and double the ram I don't see why there should be any issues related to the hardware. The thing I'm not so sure about is software issues. From my perspective it should be possible to do something like this, but I'm not at all familiar with software and programming so I wouldn't have any idea if it were possible or not.

You can do it with linux deploy afaik.
Honestly, it would be much better to get a fully OpenSource build running on this hardware, no chroot env, no android kernel, no android libs, no proprietary closed drivers.
Since Asus is going with the ROG branding on this one, maybe they will make source code (drivers, libs etc) available for the the linux hackers in the ROG fan community to build images for it.
There is already a lot of linux use on ROG notebooks and a pretty decent following in the ROG fanbase as it stands but if we can't get a pure OpenSource build, at least a libhybris supported port using LXC and the android kernel as a start.
