Hi everybody,
I managed to successfully port and build Maru OS for our Xiaomi Mi 8 based on Android 10 Lineage OS sources.
Everything is working perfectly and performance is really good in desktop mode.
Currently the only issue is that selinux is set to permissive and needs to be fixed for production ready builds.
Basically its an Android build with a LXC debian container built in. As soon as you activate screen sharing or hook up a DisplayLink dock, it starts the desktop environment onto the second screen. It's using a graphical bridge between Debian container and Android system which writes data directly to SurfaceFlinger. This makes the desktop experience extremely good and fluent (not comparable to VNC for example).

Great to hear that someone else also likes the idea of using the phone as desktop device.
Yes, I can do that. But first I need to prepare the Github repository as the source code needs to be fully published before releasing a ROM I think. Currently everything is setup locally for development and testing.
That 's great! Which adaptor are you using? Is there anyone with usb hub and charging simultaneously?

Since this phone doesn't support native HDMI output, you need to use a DisplayLink docking station which requires the DisplayLink application installed on the device. I'm using the HP USB-C Universal Dock (hsa-b005ds). If I remember correctly charging and using my mouse and keyboard simultaneously connected via USB worked without any problems.

Yes, you can use the Android in built screen sharing capability. But probably there will be some small delays due to network latency.
Ias it Avalible, I want to try it thanks.
Also keen to test.
@mtdshare Please share your build with us thanks. Or you could tell us the method you made this. I really want to try it out.

Just to be clear; you managed to use the displaylink dock as "secondary monitor", or did you just run the LXC container fullscreen with your display mirrored via displaylink?
I've been looking for a while to get displaylink to act as a secondary monitor rather than (half-assed) mirror my phone to my monitor. It would be really awesome to run (even the build-in android desktop) on a device with a displaylink dock attached.

Exactly, the LXC container is running on the external monitor via DisplayLink. At the same time you can use the Android system on the phone screen as usual.

It's really awesome you got it working like that! I've only seen this demo'd by DisplayLink themselves using a custom build rom they only want to provide to influencers and companies (source, see reply to top comment)
Would something like this also be achievable using magisk modules (or any other form of root method/drivers)? You would really be my superhero if you could help me out on achieving this.

hey, since mini pro has no hdmi output, i just want to view my android screen on my pc at least. is there any app that act similar to hdmi out?
i have tried droid vnc server and it is very laggy on my laptop.
i want to view my android screen on my pc as smooth as hdmi out on a hdtv
Maybe this is better although i never tried it.More info here.
I'm also been searching way of using my mini pro on big screen.. The most successful way is by using the stock dlna server but its only effective to view videos and photos through my ps3(client).
I want something i can use to view the ui without any lag..

it would be awesome if its possible through our hdtv
trying the androidscreencast now...
HDMI trough USB? Damn that would be heavy load on phone's CPU.
DHMI is straight out from video chips. Any app / program has to capture stream from the video chip convert it and send it to PC, that takes memory and CPU power.
Be sure you plug into USB 2 port (if you have old computer) or USB 3, as if computer is older, it takes some resources as a connected webcam - constant stream of video.

i think my explanation isn't so clear.. what i really mean is that the usb cable act as a hdmi cable and outputting video straight to the hdtv and not install on pc as webcam. it been featured using galaxy s. but not sure whether it needs any physical infrastructure build on our phone to make it work or its purely software base.

I guess this is MHL cable. Support started on phones like SGS II, HTC Sensation, etc.... I won't expect it working on SE Mini Pro.
Here is already short topic about this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590353

You know, for accessing the sd-card and internal storage directly from the dock...
Thanks !
It doesn't have a USB port for connecting mini or micro USB cables. I don't think it can be done. Also, when docked, it's in USB Host mode, so you couldn't connect a host to a host anyway.
That's plain dumb...
The hd dock has 4 ports on the back to connect via usb. Also has the hdmi port. Guess that is not the same on the standard dock?

Slightly off topic, it is on the lapdock
I used to do it alot while I was at work and wanted dual monitor keyboard setup for use with a VM I was working on, enways I problay wont be able track down the links for the items I used anytime soon, basicly was a 12in extension cable for each of the micro usb and mini/micro (w/e) hdmi and then for the connections to the laptop it was a converter to standard usb and the same for the hdmi, anything more than 1ft or so will not work ('Ive tried needs more power transmitted to make it or somthing) the drivers were found easily via windows 7.

This thread just saved me $15... I was planning on getting one of these to charge from a high powered usb port on my pc and also an easy way to transfer files from PC to Atrix.... I guess I'll just go with the standard dock for now.
Multimedia dock is for charging and audio out only nd by design does not permit a usb connection to a PC. Think of it like the car dock with the audio output on the dock not the cable. The HD dock, supports usb devices and HDMI, but that is the opposite of what you are looking for. In short, the only way to mount the storage to a PC is with a usb or third party usb dock.

Unfortunately, the KDE-55XBR950 is the (no offense intended) economy plasma version of the XBR950 models which does not have the Miracast feature. Nor does it have Ethernet capabilities. Your only choice for playing videos from your XTZ on your television is by connecting a MHL to HDMI adapter between the XTZ and the television.

Hey, I'm just info seeking. I would like to know if it is possible to port the android TV version of Netflix to other devices. I currently use a rooted Ouya as a set top box. The standard Netflix app simply doesn't cut it on a 40" HDTV. And if it's not possible are there any other ways to get HD out of Netflix on an android device.

It seems that all the Android TV apps are designed to only run with the Android TV Launcher, which unfortunately only works on Nexus Player. Hopefully someone will be able to mod it and make it run on other Android Settop boxes. Hmmm 1GB ram & 4GB rom don't bother with this there's just not enough memory to do anything + way over priced too.
The remote looks cool though I would say this is ment for the Chinese market
got it yesterday and was my biggest mistake to buy it,i would not recommend to anyone this one cause is in Chinese language and there was no warning at all on gearbest.com that this item does not have English lang, going to take it back and order another one and better
can change to english very easy
i recommend tis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-6qkn6awJQ to change to English. go to http://assets.sfcdn.org/apk/com.shafa.market/236/d4b163f/com.shafa.market_4.5.6_international.apk copy to a usb drive and follow the youtube video. if you manage to change to English use the baidu keybord with eng .i hop this will help you. i have in stall kodi on this box its not bad i think.

Nice. I just bought one of these units but I'm worried about a firmware update wiping out the ability to root when I connect to wifi. Can we disable auto-updates?

I have lost root before, with auto update of my MIBOX ( I have earlier 2GB version) than I rooted again, installed Play Store, all my apps and I purchased Super User app Pro version it has ability to keep Root even after update. And now I'm not afraid and update my MIBOX to the latest firmware.

Hmm, alright. Did you root for any particular reason?
Anyone else running Kodi on this box? I'm having problems with passthrough audio
I think the Pro version worth the 16euros extra
anyone tried uninstalling the built in android and running OpenElec on it?

I ordered 2 in gearbest today.
at flash sale 79 u$s each, and 2 xiaomi joysticks for 20 bucks each....
I hope I can change language....
In the worst case, I use a custom launcher.
If it can be rooted, language can be changed with no problem
Hi, you can install apex luncher. Than it will add a new "settings" icon. From there you can choose any language you want
Interesting the new Xiaomi Mi TV Box 3 Enhanced
The Xiaomi Box 3(S905) with one usb port only can also be rooted and works woth google apps also.
you just have to flash the .106 rom, then go setting change the language to English (because the .106 rom natively supports English) and then you can use kongoroot to root it via computer and USB to USB Cable after activating adb. once done you can install Gapps and change the default laucher and disable all the Mi bloatware , this way you can have more space and less ads on the device.

Hey guys is this thread based on this same unit.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mi-Box-A...75035&wl11=online&wl12=54827138&wl13=&veh=sem
Now selling at walmart. I just got one and trying to find some info. It was only 69 or so.
Hi guys
Can anyone who has this tell me if it has an IR receiver? I want to use it with a Logitech Harmony 650. The Logitech site lists it as a compatible device but I have my doubts as I know the remote uses bluetooth, and I've seen conflicting reports. Thanks!
I got one last weekend. I put my sunvell t95 on the top shelf of my closet. This is the box. It only has one USB port, I use a usb hub and a external hard drive, a usb to Ethernet adapter. The true Google experience is perfect on this box. Plus mobdro and kodi. I still want to root to do some build prop editing when someone figures out how to root this. The s905 cannot handle this box. It is the best buy around. Only thing I wish is if it was a Huawei box because they should have done more with there box. But Xiaomi and leeco have past them in the home entertainment market.
