I just got my new S21 yesterday. I've noticed at random times, it gets really hot. It doesn't seem to be when I'm doing anything specific. It has gotten hot when wireless charging, or when just sitting on my desk. Has anyone else had heat issues?

Get gsam battery app, and see which process is using a lot of CPU. Some apps are really crappy and hog cpu

Over the past month and a half that I have had an atrix I have noticed that my atrix has burnt me several times. I have it in my pocket and it just gets really hot. It doesnt seem to be the battery as the entire phone is very hot. This has been happening even before I rooted my phone. It burns me through the otter box. Im reluctant to take this back to at&t as i would have to unroot it. Are other people having this issue?
Never once had that problem

I have that problem too. It's not a problem with your phone. It just gets warm naturally. The otterbox definitely doesn't help cool it off though. I have the defender, and God forbid I accidentally leave it under my pillow while charging. I'll wake up in the morning with an uncharged, flaming Atrix.
If it's really burning you, like so much you can't touch it, then something is wrong, regardless of case.
Sounds like a future class action lawsuit and recall for AT&T... except mine, you can't have it *hisss*
I swear I just seen this post in a image forum, with exact wording...hmmmm. Otterboxes are terrible at disappating heat. You also may have a process putting load on the processor causing it to run hot.
So, do you think it would be wise to get rid of the otter box? Should I call or email the otter company?

Thats what I thought maybe there is a runaway app causing the heat. My Atrix stays in the Commuter and rarely gets hot, if it does its not for long or Im outside in the sun. Try an app like Watchdog to monitor for misbehaving apps..
Thanks wiredpirate. That is one great app. Im thinking that will at least help me narrow down the problem. Im sure this is the reason that my atrix is consuming an excessive amount of batter power too. thanks again.
No problem let us know if you find out what app was causing you to overheat.
Ok, so it seems like there is not an app in particular in fault. I am currently using a root app called 'CPU master'. This seems to at leas greatly decrease my problems.
Yeah, it definitely gets warm, but I have never had it that hot. The only time it gets warm on me is if I am backing up in cwm or flashing with rsd.
OP How hot are we talking? (like Temp-wise?)
Also anyone use Battery Booster and leave the Temp Icon on at the top so actually gauge how hot your phone is getting?
My Milestone and Telus Fascinate definitely hit the +40c a lot more than my Atrix.
The Fascinate will always hit above 40c when browsing on whites, because of the S Amoled screen. Plenty of times I average 40-45c.
The Atrix in idle is usually in the mid 20's, and browsing in the mid 30s for me...
I have also had this problem from day one. I had it charging under my pillow overnight and woke up with it really hot. I did this with my iPhone before I moved over to the Atrix and never once had an overheating iPhone...not that I'd go back to it.
That would be the dual core lava reactor conflicting with the flux capacitor. Gingerbread should fix it

I've been noticing a good amount of heat up by the camera during moderate use. I thought this was a CM7 problem since I had been on it since day 1, but I am now on UnNamed and the problem persists. After some googling it does seem that many other people are having this problem. Not on WIFI, and not in a poor signal area either. Just wanted to see if anyone had any leads as to the cause. What is a good app for monitoring CPU usage by app?
Yes, it may get a little hot but it isn't something to worry about as far as I know. I've gamed for three hours straight and not had any problems except for a low battery life!
yeah mine gets hot near the camera during use but i dont think its a problem
I use a battery monitor.
From what I've read, it will shut off for protection. I've heard that as long as it doesn't ever get too much above 130 F, you should be OK.
Now if it constantly stays high, there may be a problem. Mine stays around 80 F most of the time and the highest I've ever seen is 99 F but i don't game much or use my camera. One thing you don't wanna do is charge it while hd gaming or charge it in a hot car. My infuse reached 146 F one time doing that.

Somehow 'Words with Friends' caused my phone to really warm up a lot. More so than I've seen with any other situation and on numerous occasions. Luckily I suck at that game and uninstalled it...
Mine is cool unless i put a thick case then itll burn up

When I first got CM7 running on this thing, I tore through the market installing the apps I'm used to. When I was finished, I noticed that it was indeed a bit warm in the area you described. It wasn't hot enough to cause discomfort, just warm enough to note.
I notice when my phone gets hot in that area when it is around 30% remaining and I charge it. I also notice that when it is charging, it really isn't charging but battery is draining. When I got home and charged it at 30%, I left it sitting there for about 30 minutes and when I checked the phone again, it was at 25%. GPS and wifi was turned off. I decided to power down the phone and remove the battery for 5 minutes. I started working fine after that. I noticed it getting hot again today when I plugged it in to charge at 40% but this time it actually was charging. I am running stock rom but rooted. Should this be a concern?
Seems as though a lot of people are having a variation of this problem. Hopefully it is addressed soon.
The CPU will always get a bit warm if it's running.
If it's getting very hot when the screen is off, you've probably got some background task wakelocking the phone.
My phone's screen gets pretty hot when I run web videos/flash videos on HSPA.
Runs a tiny bit warm when i'm running pristine 3D Tegra games on it...otherwise no.
I just plugged my Prime in for the first time and noticed that the charger is getting pretty hot. Is this normal?

I figured someone else must have posted this, but since no one has answered you yet I'll follow up with......
mine gets really really hot.
I mean it gets really hot.
My guess is at some point the charger will quit working sooner because of it, so I may put in a claim for it sooner rather than later (get it on record so the speak).
Bump, i'm on the first charge and have the same issue. Anyone else?

Mine still gets hot but I haven't noticed any issues due to this.
Everything electrical gets hot due to the inefficiency of the flow of electrons through a conductive material. For chargers this is amplified as a great deal of power is going through them for a long period of time(if going from very low battery it is more likely to increase in temperature). My laptop charger would get so hot it could burn someone. I don't think this is really an issue unless you think it is hot enough to be considered a fire hazard.
Yes, it is normal for the Prime's charger to get hot while in use.
It shouldn't be melting-plastic hot, but it will be very warm to the touch while it is actively charging the Prime. Most chargers for any device (even phones) get noticeably warm while in use.
Mine gets so hot that it could pass as *famously hot actress*. Lol but I could get my eggs frying on it.

I just want to know if this is a general issue with the phone or if I have a hardware problem.
I got a replacement geeksquad refurbished phone and noticed something. After using the phone for things like internet browsing, reading, etc. for around half an hour, the top right of the phone starts to get hot. When doing intensive things like playing games, it will get hot much quicker (around 5-10 minutes). I noticed that on ICS ROMs like Evervolv, or ROMs with high CPU usage bugs, that area seems to get warm then hot really quickly (2-3 minutes of web browsing).
The battery never overheats. It's just the top right of the phone.
I can't seem to remember very well, but I don't think my older phone before the replacement suffered from this issue. The battery would get warm on that but it never got hot or anything.
So my questions are:
-Is this a general problem with all Evo 3Ds?
-Is this a hardware problem?
-What is located in the top right of the phone that could be overheating?

Getting warm alil bit is normal due to heat of your hand and so on use wise. But hot to the touch burnin your hand due to heat then your having some weird issues.
Phone shouldn't get hot that quick. You on a stock rom? I would throw stock back on with stock kernel toy with it see if it still gets warm..

Its kind of in between warm and hot. Its not extremely hot but gets to very uncomfortable temperatures. Kind of like how the back feels when the battery is around 42°C.
I don't think its being affected by surroundings but since the problem is completely non-existent while outside in cold temperatures, that might be the case. It also gets hotter quicker while in hot environments. The reason I don't think this is the case is because its only that one spot. Also, I don't put my finger there often.

For some reason I never thought of trying a stock ROM...
If it persists with these issues, which it probably will, I guess ill need a replacement.

Just mess with a stock one if it stills happens then it's a hardware issue..
Mine gets pretty hot there when I'm using 4g and wifi tether. Hasn't damaged my phone yet and I've been using the 4g/wifi almost everyday for about 2 months now.
Wow this phone does run warm. Anyone has any issues with this?

if you're on the phone, then yes it will get warm (playing games or watching movies will heat it up faster). at rest, it shouldn't get so warm. If it's warm when it's in your pocket, you may have some app running in the background using the CPU. Also the aluminum casing acts like a heatsink, so it's normal for the entire phone to be warm, but it shouldn't be so hot where it burns you.
not only warm but battery drains horribly like 12-16%/h........ is that normal?
