Is Android 11 good now on Moto G8 Power (XT2041-1)? - Moto G Power Questions & Answers

There were some complaints when A11 OTA dropped earlier this year. Some folks saw issues with battery, speaker, network.
I was wondering if these were resolved, or do they still persist? Did most of you stay on Android 10. Did Motorola address the issues with Android 11?

I upgraded to 11. Battery life is slightly less on 11.. have the occasional speaker issue with crunchy static.. reboot always fixes it.
All in all a better experience... But always gonna be bugs

I can only speak for XT2041-4. A11 is still having a lot of issues as of Dec 2021. I would not recommend A11 upgrade.

4.4 -> 5.0 -> 5.01-> 4.4

Just a word on my own experience regarding the upgrading of my Nexus 10.
Actually I have two because one was stolen and then returned to me - but after I replaced it.
Both of my tablets with 4.4 installed have been great. They did everything I wanted without any problem. Why did I bother to upgrade to Lolipop? Well because I love gadgets and the latest technology.
As soon as I went to 5.0, there was a huge deterioration in the quality of the wireless connection. I had my other non-upgraded Nexus to compare with and it was clear that there was a big speed difference, connection difficulties, and sometime wireless dropouts.
I was very pleased when 5.01 was released because I had read that this owuld fix the wireless problems.
It didn't. Exactly the same problems. No improvement at all - and I had my 4.4 tablet to compare with.
Last weekend, I finally found the time to revert to 4.4 using the WugFresh Nexus toolkit.
Absolutely brilliantly easy to do. Took about 20 minutes and I was restored to 4.4.
There has been an immediate improvement in the performance of the tablet so far as wireless connectivity is concerned. It's like night and day.
Frankly, I'm puzzled as to what benefits there are from a Lolipop upgrade. It's certainly not the next big thing, by any stroke of the imagination.
I understand that 5.02 will be released in sometime this month. I suppose that I will try it out but generally I would advise people to stay with 4.4. It is a well developed mature OS. Is there a need to change?
The upgrade quality is quite hit and miss by what I'm reading. Both my Oneplus one and Nexus 10 run a custom build of 5.0.1 and I haven't encountered any problems that are being reported everywhere. I wish with tech troubleshooting there was a "one size fits all" solution but that's utopian thinking. I've upgraded and am finding the tweaks in the functionality quite useful, but the main reason for the upgrade has been the looks. You could try a custom ROM based on 5.0.2 seeing that you're familiar with the rooting toolkit anyways
I think battery life on my nexus 10 has taken a slight hit but it's nothing that I would revert back to 4.4 for. Oneplus one just runs like a nuclear reactor with any ROM
I sideloaded 5.0 via Wugfresh shortly after it came out and then reverted to 4.4 two days later.I had no special problems aside from the unavailability of Xposed framework, which is a deal-breaker for me. I have 4.4 set up the way I like it (including many "Lollipop" UI elements) and didn't find anything in 5.x that would justify giving that up.

Thanks for this. I just want a standard rom - rooted. Improved looks would be nice but if it means sacrificing connectivity then I'll stick with 4.4.
I have to say that while I had 5.01 installed, I did get the impression that it was really just about looks.
I found the double entry screen - swipe to reveal pin screen - and then pin code to access - very lumpy and unnecessary.
I suppose that I will try 5.02 when it arrives but I'll be quick to revert if there is any deterioration in existing 4.4 functionality.
I expect that 5.XX is really just intended to work correctly the new 64bit gen of devices
It sure is a mystery why there are such a variety of experiences switching to lollipop. Mine has been all positive, and the improvement in smoothness alone was worth it. In KK there was such a jitter or stutter that was most noticeable when scrolling through screens or app drawer. It's either gone or barely there at times. Which makes sense, there were supposed performance improvements in 5.0.
If you're unsure about upgrading don't assume your experience will be like anyone else's. It's worth it if your N10 likes the taste of lollipops better than kit kats. You can always make a nandroid backup before trying.
I too reverted to 4.4: WiFi issues on lollipop are a deal breaker, and being able to use xposed (pie controls plus a few minor tweaks) on 4.4 is a nice plus.

I had these same issues tried everything to sort the slow WiFi and the constant drop outs ,just by chance I changed the channel on the router and bingo! It cured all the issues I was having so something worth trying before giving up on lollipop.
I was hoping that 5.02 would fix the WiFi problems - it didn't. My tablet is downgrading to 4.4.4
Saw too many negative comments, and didn't want to lose xposed modules. Never upgraded!
P.S.
Lollipop is the Vista/Windows ME of Android!

Same issues for me. A few times a day I get dropouts, then authentication problem on my WiFi, but after a reboot it connects without any hicks. Worst update ever. I'm also thinking of going back to 4.4.4.
I have both Nexus 5 and Nexus 10. Been installed CM-Nightly build regularly. Only Nexus 10 experienced wifi issues. Just like mentioned here from different members, dropouts and authentication errors. Toggle wifi on/off will have it up awhile.
I live with this problems since 5.01 out. With now 5.1 on horizon, I hope we will have this issue fixed. Otherwise, I am going back to 4.4 in Nexus 10.

Lollipop or MM - what do you prefer?

I have tried both versions of Android on my Honor 7. But now, i have returned back to Lollipop because i had to many problems with MM. Two of my important apps has stopped working after a while. It was not possible for me to prevent that. So i returned to Lollipop and all was working fine. (Need no push notifications)
What do YOU think? What is YOUR experience? And what version of android stays at your phone at now?
Please reports.
I have version B180 rooted, and so far have no desire to update to MM.
I don't see for the time being that MM would offer anything worth updating to it for. All my apps are running as expected, battery life is great, I've removed most if not all Huawei bloatware and pre-installed Google apps, I use another launcher so never see the EMUI interface.
Lollipop does all I need, so for now I can resist the temptation to try MM, that may change at some time in the future though.
Not too surprising you are back on Lollipop.
I'm on B330 and was hoping for a more significant change.....battery drain seems same as B100 but I didn't compare that to B180. I am frustrated that the data usage chart doesn't seem to work at all. I'm hoping to find a workaround to that than downgrade.....overall, underwhelming would be my report.
There is no where near enough changes of any description from honor lollipop to honor marshmallow apart from its more smooth. I was very disappointed with honor as I thought they may have made more significant changes with the upgrade to B330. Especially with emui. After all the months they spent testing the Rom before release I was expecting a lot more from it. All it did was stop my fast charge capability that was working on my stock charger previously so make my experience slightly worse.
I have lost all interest in this phone and honor since the mm update. Don't get me wrong its a functional phone alright but I find it extremely dull and boring to use now and needing more. I won't be buying another.

Would you upgrade to cm 11 or 12.1 on a daily driver?

Why/background if you are interested:
I have been using the LG G3 for about a year and my wife dropped hers in the water so I'm getting the note up and running, it got me thinking about updating from CM10.1.3 to 11 or 12. I didn't see anything great from 11 to 12.1 on my G3, couple lock screen options etc simple stuff, however I have to cycle the data toggle every so often to get data working, the loss of bluetooth was a deal breaker and required 12.1, but I digress.
The heart of the question:
on CM's website I see there is a snapshot (not going for nightly, but, also it's not stable) for both 11 and 12. In your opinion what do you think about cm11 or cm 12.1 on the note 2. The snapshot worked pretty well on the G3. Are they stable enough for you? worth it? Many benefits? Blown out of the water? Side notes - I won't use full screen casting (I have an android box), I will use pandora/etc music apps with the chromecast option to our stereo some mornings, I don't care how my lock screen looks or functions (I turned them off on my G3).
Thoughts about security and oudated apps:
[/U] Issues I foresee if I stay on cm10 - security - stagefright exploit, if apps are changed and I don't update my apps and errors occur or some stuff might get outdated and just stop working and require an update to use it, on that note I see my navionics app stopped working and won't load/initialize. My LG G3 kept loosing bluetooth in Pandora and Soundcloud after they were updated, I fixed it by moving to cm12.1. I turned off auto update to avoid this on the note 2 with apps
What baseband is needed?
I never did an OTA update when I got it. I rooted the note 2 the day I got it, but I can't remember what build it was on, I'm on baseband VRAMC3. Lastly I had to update the oem software on the LG to get a newer baseband for cm12.1. TWRP wouldn't even flash cm12 until I updated. Do I need to do anything similar for the note 2, or can I flash from 10 to 12? [/B

I honestly got out of using the AOSP ROMs for my Note since I noticed some issues with camera quality not being as good as the stock. it wasn't horrible. but I would see some glitches with video and I could just see the image caliber was not as good as a touchwiz ROM.

When is the End of Support?

Hi, I am looking for a 6.5 phone, which will have at least 2 years support of the vendor. It will be used by my wife, so alternative ROM is nogo.
What is the EOS for Honor 8X?
Thank you
Probably 2 years for software and 1 year for hardware warranty same as other honor phones. Launched with Oreo and beta Pie is already in progress so dont see any issue in getting the next android version.
Thanks, ok it seems I will have to buy and setup phone for her every two years. I am already 40, so new versions do not impress me at all. Pie is huge step back in UI for me (at least on MiA1, MiA2).

That's only major software update but security updates could extend upto 3 years. And even if ROS reaches, phone still works fine (using 5X since 3 years now)
Just curious, how frequent are the security updates? Thinking of switching to huawei phone but from what i googled, it seems Huawei's security or OS updates are slow. Is it still the same or has they improved? This is what's currently holding me back from jumping onboard. Any feedbacks on the update rate is much appreciated.

Oneplus Updatepolitics

Hey,
i asked myself a question. I was informed a few days ago from Oneplus Community Forum, that Oneplus rolls out the Updates in a 3 Month Circle. Dont know that before, just thinked this phone get fast Updates like my old Samsung Note 9 wich is, by the way, on January 2020 Security Patch. Oneplus is on November 2019.
So 2 Questions.
Im right, that OxygenOS is very near to Stock/Vanilla Android with just e few optimations etc ? So nothing overloaded like OneUi from Sammy ?
And is it rihgt, that the OP7TPro is a fully Project Treble supportet Phone ?
If these 2 Things are right, im very courious why they have such a bad Update politic. I mean not general Updates..my 7t Pro runs so far so good without any Bugs or else. I mean the Google Security Updates wich fill critical Security issues, along with the Google OS itself. Oh and i heard in the Communityforum, that Oneplus does this Job better back in the Days with OP6 Series for example. Is that right ?

Yes almost stock
No idea on the 2nd question
And there not the best for updates seems to be every 6 weeks or so
OnePlus are... Weird.
They run by this every 2 month update policy but here's the thing.
Lest take this as an example. It's end of January now, and February patch is a week or two away at tops, but they still release an update with January patch, instead of waiting that week or two and be fully in line with security patches.
OnePlus is probably closest to stock Except pixel phone. But I feel they are slowly drifting away form it, in my opinion, the implementation of OxygenOS is really poor.
And yes, this phone is 100% treble supported. (Which one would think would make updates fasters, but I guess not).
Could someone explain to me why the security updates are so important for some? What do they change for everyday user? (I'm asking seriously now, no hard feelings).
The only thing that needs fixing/updating asap for me is Horizon light, and this should be done much sooner. Apart from this everything is working fine, so I rather hesitate to update to not break something else, unless security update fixes the bugs, makes it more functional, faster or more battery friendly
