Hi guys,
One question I would like to ask as I haven't seen any report on this I think at least in here.
I would like to install games to play them on the surface duo. Being able to play full screen (so with game spanned on both displays) is really a nice thought.
BUT : if game is developed to be played on a single display device in PORTRAIT mode, it is impossible to play it on the Surface at least here. Because it does not "rotate" rotate the right way. So I am always with the game facing downwards instead of upwards...
Here are 2 games I tried that gave the same result :
- Cody Cross
- Rogue Land
With all other problems (one display randomly deciding to shut down : poor battery life ; weakness around USB-C connector ; lack of launcher to use decently...) makes it really too much.
I know this is not a gaming phone, but still. Not being intended to be and not being able to are 2 different things I think.
Regards.

So I loaded some of my favorite games and find out the accelerometer is oriented sideways. So for racing games, I have to hold it flat and tilt the top down for left, or bottom down for right. I read that this is because game developers aren't expecting tablets to be oriented landscape primarily like ours are.
I have several games that I NEED tilt control for to win (ie heavy gunner) and games that would be fun to play (racing ones especially).
Now the million dollar question, is there a fix for this?
I noticed this with Asphalt 6, thought it was game related but maybe it's device related...
I think it is game related. Reason I say this is several people have Dead Space working in landscape but the market version doesn't.
So I tried playing Cytus (a rhythm game) on my ZU while putting it on table and realized I miss a lot during those notes where I have to press them at the same time. It felt better when I held it on my hand instead but I still have some missing notes
Now I bring two phones out so that I could play the game... kinda disappointed in ZU.
anyone else have this problem/ can test it out for me?
Looked around youtube and google for gaming reviews but couldn't find any review on Z Ultra playing rhythm game...
Install Display Tester and use the "Multi-touch counter". It should register 10 fingers, like mine does. Also, i installed Real Drum, and i hit that set like a mad man, and it didn't drop a single beat.
Tried Display tester, it did registered 10 fingers. Went to try real drum, it seems alright when I spammed it randomly, but when I tried to tap two of them together repetitively (like the crash and ride) , one of them tends to miss it once in a while.
Again, I tried it while my ZU is on a table and there's the missing problem, but doesn't seem to have any problem while holding it in my hands.
UPDATE:
Ok i just figured out its only one specific area that get warm, in the top right corner. when in landscape mode with power button facing up, this is a non issue as i simply flip the phone to the other side play my games
the back right corner gets a tad warm thats also a non issue and normal for most phones while gaming however I use the included sony case and feel nothing at all.
Love this phone, Iv had a great gaming experience. this will replace my nvidia shield as pc games stream perfectly full speed too. (just some mapping issues with droidmote and HID controllers needs a fixes)
original post.
As this is a thin device the screen gets extremly hot while gaming, is there any rom/mod to workaround this that anyone knows offp?

Well the only way to reduce heat is to downclock the processor, which means you need to root and download setcpu. But ftom my experience, it is not as hot as my previous razr maxx, and the good thing about this phone is there's a throttle control to prevent cpu overheat so no overly hot surface.

what I notice is that the heat is not consistent Some HD games (Conduit, Ravensword) dont cuz much heat and are reasonable, Novaa 3 causes alot and with MC4 the heat is inconsistent.

Yeah usually the more complex the game is, the hotter it will go. But seems like Sony capped it around 60C max so if the temp reaches there, the CPU will throttle.

What's extremly hot according to you? Just to have a scientific perspective.
I don't experience excessive heat, playing deathtrigger 2, gta3, real racing 3, candy crush
OP, are you gaming while the phone is charging? If yes, don't do that.
I'm not the biggest mobile gamer out there, but i have no issues with heat when i play Riptide GP2 and other GPU intensive games.

Even though I haven't played much I used setcpu and lowered the max from 2150 -> 1190.
All new phones gets hot in the CPU area. I guess it's impossible to design a thin phone and not get some kind of drawback.
I think due to the glass back of this device, the heat is quickly radiated to the ambient. I've an acer a700 sometimes it get so hot its not comfortable to place your fingers over there.
When playing games you should remove any casing, it works like an insulation. You will end up in a vicious heating cycle.
well it is complicated
1st time i bought the phone i felt something funny about how the touch , keyboard and scrolling feels .. i was on miui 9 .. but i couldnt specify what was the problem specifically
i updated to miui 10 and i felt that touch is not improved but worsened or may be it is the glass screen protector i installed .. i dont know specifically but i felt some keystrokes while fast typing were not registered or registered wrong .. also small buttons touch was 50% success rate .. scrolling also was not consistent across different apps and completely different from other previous phones
i updated to beta 8.11.15 now i feel keyboard is a bit more responsive and all keystrokes are registered but some may be registered wrong
what i wanted to discuss here could this problem be multifactorial :
1. could the display be the problem ?! as some ppl mentioned about the tianma display ?! so is there other displays than the tianma ?!
2. could it be the apps ?! i felt different keyboard response and lag according to app used such as facebook, messenger or chrome .. even chrome heavy webpages cause keyboard lag
3. could it be the tempered screen protector as on note 8 and note 9 ??!! but our mobile screen are not that edged and protector fits perfectly
4. i realized that touch is best when carrying mobile with both hands .. less with one hand .. lesser when put on bed or pillow .. impaired if put directly on the floor ?! it appears there is a thing between electricity and grounding and touch
well i would be happy if you shared your opinions about the touch issue and what causes it ?!
i tried to shut off certain features and gestures and tried 3rd party keyboards but there was always minimal difference between .. and this difference is less than found between using different apps

Well i have poco f1 too with the same display of tianna i never had screen bleeding . Neither have heard about it from my friend who bought poco . Maybe only some people had this issue with the screen . Touch screen problem yes the keyboard just goes wild and i cant type fast .
1. Well stop using kika keyboard the defauly keyboard on poco and switch to google keyboard .
2. Go to settings - Additional settings - Language and input - Pointer speed ( Turn pointer speed to zero helps a lot to control the screen in pubg )
Next update fixes the screen issuesso cheers. Or you can install the latest Lineage OS which has thr fix . I prefer MIUI .

In my opinion, those issues are hardware problem, i'm facing to edge screen touch latency, it's very ennoying
I am on Lineage 16 latest build, and the screen is worse than xiaomi.eu 8.10.XX that i had.
The latency is improved but now the screen does not register most of my clicks, i have to press 2-3 times for a button to be acrually pressed which is way more annoying than the increased latency i used to have. This is incredibly frustrating and sad because my beloved poco is getting unusable.
well as i told you i am on 8.11.15 sometimes i feel the keyboard is working excellent but sometimes not .. as in my particular condition 99.9% of my clicks register but as i change apps i feel the latency changes sometime the keyboard is good some time it is very laggy .. also i feel something weird across edges but cannot specify what is abnormal since i use a tempered glass protector and it appears to eat a mm of the edge .. when i press at the lower part of space bar i can see the a space is written and keypress sound is made but the button doesnt appear to be pressed it stays white not grey .. i dont know whether this adds to the keyboard problems or it is just a bug
i think this can be partly fixed over 90% by software but not 100 % .. fast typers will face problems definitely on this phone .. so stay away
I really really like that the twindock accessory has been reduced in size, and that those two huge grip, trigger handles have been removed. I've been looking for good shots of this accessory in the previews in articles and on YouTube. Engagdet's article has an embedded video that gives us the best view of this accessory, and is still poorly revealing footage, but at least shows off the back and underside. Gawd, I would have liked to have seen what the device looks like as a closed clamshell. The article itself also shows pictures from the prerelease event where a breakdown was displayed. Very helpful.
If it isn't too big, I'm probably going to carry the phone in the twindock as my EDC. Double, independent screens, both at 120hz, for epic multitasking, a total 10 amp hours of battery, crazy loudspeakers, hopefully full sized SD card support still (I use full sized SD cards a lot). I do wish that the hinge still resembled the original twindock's full length, tighter implementation.
I hope it's pocketable. If not, I might end up dissecting it and trying to build a custom, dual screen phone case out of it, or stepping into the life of a dude that carries a manbag.
I don't know why we haven't seen second-screen bearing cases like this for other phones. If a similar case with an identical screen and battery extension existed for it, I would be all over a Note series device, but as things are, such an accessory doesn't exist for any other device, as far as I know.
I'm not much of a mobile gamer, though I'm sure this will change for me once I own a top-of-the-line gaming phone, but I am definitely a power user, and a second screen accessory like this looks to deliver on the promises made by the failed foldable phone revolution in an even better implementation.
If it were offered in a 5g compatible variant, this would undoubtedly be my next 5+ years phone. My note 4 is ready to retire, and I like being able to buy the best of the best once every half decade and ride it until it's ****e.
Does anybody have a better source for info on the twindock 2? And does this kind of an EDC use case appeal to anyone else? I know, it'll be thick, but just imagine the sheer power.

Here you go.
I still want to know if you can run a regular app on the top screen, and have the keyboard on the lower screen.
Why not LG v60?

You can't use the bottom screen on as a keyboard for the top unfortunately :/ They work as entirely separate screens other than in a couple of games.
Maybe a Dev here can help with the keyboard down and an app on top ??
The 5000mah battery doesn't really extend the battery life of the phone. On balanced mode, not powerbank mode, you'll roughly get 7hrs SOT for both the phone and twinview dock, is it due to poor optimization? This is on 60hz and about 50% brightness.
It's it worth buying for everyday multitasking? Not gaming ie messenger and video? $398 Aus is price of cheap laptop
I purchased this device for $399 Aus stupid overpriced ROG.
I do like being able to watch YouTube and surfing web or play COD bottom screen and something on the top. I do wish ASUS could give a full screen two screen mode like the LG does.. multiwindow does not work while in dock mode so only two apps open on seperated screens at a time. I will be disappointed if the ROG 3 isn't backwards compatible.
It's a good device but software developers are not onboard with it with games... Would be good if Asus could run something in gamegenie to map onscreen buttons and keywords to bottomed screen.
Twinview dock 2 is a great device... There are alot of software modifications needed is extend to one screen for Chrome etc I feel $399 Aus is way to expensive for this device... Glad I tried it but there are alot of issues ie some apps do now allow to be used horizontally. I do hope ROG 3 will allow this device to be used with.... Otherwise I will Goto LGs twin screen variant. I had ROG 1 and all accessories and all were a waste of money... I do hope they try and keep there user base with ROG 3 and support this twinview dock with software modifications as stated. If anyone thinking of getting one do not it's not worth the money
does anyone else that owns the twindock have this weird issue ?
every time I connect the phone to it, it doesn't work properly the first time as the screen keeps flickering and switching off and on.
I have to unplug it and the connect again and it works fine on the 2nd try.
I thought it was the connector at first, but tested a couple of more times and the same thing happens every time.
It always works properly on the 2nd try only.
Noticed that this started happening after the phone got an update 2-3 days ago and it also updated something on the dock.
Yes have that issue... I have to undock sometimes.. on and off... Sometime also get pixel distortion... I would stay away from this accessory

Yes have that issue... I have to undock sometimes.. on and off... Sometime also get pixel distortion... I would stay away from this accessory... Sometimes prompts me for firmware update even though latest... It then fails lol cheap expensive plastic
anyone figure out how to hide the navigation bar on the top screen? (if it's possible)
I too have the flickering issue. I'm not really liking this accessory as it isn't implemented the right way. We should be able to stretch apps across it and such. it's too picky on how a second screen should work optimally to be worth it.
Has anyone had any issues with the dock cooling? Correct me if I'm wrong but this used to extract the hot air when the phone was docked in in Android 9. Now i play and it heats up the screen of the phone more cause it is pushing the air into the phone. Does anyone have this problem too?

So guys, after months using the dock, do you guys recommend to buy it? i want to buy it, found one new very cheap. The same issues keep or they solved with software updates?
