Ok have the phone a while but still new to the Android applications and just have a few questions on the phone:
- I have Lightening 3 installed and working ok. Have the phone on power saving mode. Was charging it overnight and set the Alarm and it never went off is there an issue with this in Lightening 3?
-I know there are numerous threads on what is safe to remove and what is not.Is Titanium back up the only way to remove apps and what apps can be removed ie Samsung apps,Music Hub etc.
- Is there a way to stop apps running. When I go into manage applications and see whats running stuff like maps, voice command, google services are running. Is there a way to stop these from running other than physically stopping them. I don's use these and wonder if these running apps eat the battery.
-If I update to a new rom version do I loose saved items ie Angry birds would I have to start again
-Is it worth getting a screen protector and which would users recommend?
-Where can I find a dummys guide to changing the boot logo to an animation?
Sorry for all the noobie questions but we where all noobies once in our life and I will stop been a noobie soon hopefully
Cheers
Screen Protector is a must IMO.
Regards.

Also instead of removing apps, you can just freeze them so they r always there but cant be used
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Thanks for the replies on apps I can remove
What about issues around the alarm on lightening rom, and upgrading to new rom without loosing info. Also boot animation looking for dummys guide
If anyone can advise appreciate it thanks
I'd like to remove Google Play Music. I have no need for it and I find it is automatically making itself an active app that I always have to kill after a reboot. I really don't care to have google spying on me at that level (yeah, I know it is hard to avoid) and suggesting music for me. I can do that very well for myself, thank you. So, I've rooted my phone, flashed the latest philz kernel, and installed busybox pro and titanium backup pro. If it is safe to kill that google app, which tool and what should I do to accomplish it? I see TB has bloatware melter, but I cannot find an adequate description or how-to for it.
Freeze it with Titanium. Personally speaking, I don't like to outright remove anything, freezing is a better option given it achieves the exact same result & without the 'oops I accidentally deleted an important system app by mistake' type incidents that can/do happen.
Alternatively if you do really want to remove it you can use SystemApp Remover.
Thanks for the helps. I chose to freeze it, because, being a noob, that is the cautious choice for me.
Hi,
I was having problems with Exchange Services 4.1 on my rooted Verizon S3 phone. The phone is rooted to allow programs like Greenify, Titanium backup, etc. to run, but it is not modded other than that, and I have few apps on it as I'm trying to solve this problem first.
Because the phone was getting hot, draining the battery and had a large # of wakelocks, I disabled Exchange Services and decided to try TouchDown on Google play, but am having the same kind of issue (but not as often).
This question is not about the wakelocks. It is about trying to re-enable Exchange Services 4.1 on my phone. I had force closed and disabled Exchange Services 4.1 on my Samsung S3, but in trying to re-enable it, it won't re-enable. More specifically, I can press the enable button, and it looks enabled, but it still doesn't show up in available apps, and I can't do anything with it.
I also backed up the app with Titanium Backup (since I'm rooted), but when I try to restore it, I get a "X Application not installed". Any suggestions to get it back would be greatly appreciated.
hey guys,
i have install the new software made by hashcode...
but i do not need the amazon stuff, so i would like to uninstall all the apps and system files i do not need any more...
for example, i uninstallt the amazon app store, but i do not know if or with apps i can delite....
and i do not like the check time bevor my kindle starts....
so what can i do? and what app are very important for the system?
just have a look in the auto start manager or in the file device-->system-->app....
thank you verry much and sorry for my english
hans
I would also be interested in this. You can see that the stock software has a lot of apps installed that aren't visible from the Apps screen, and some of them are surely useless (like all the update services, parental controls etc.). So it would be nice if there was a list of what all of those apps are for and whether it's safe to remove them (and how to remove them in the first place).
Hi there!
First of all I'm not a really big ROM magician nor a programmer/ developer, and I know for some people I wont tell any new thing with this thread/ post.
As everyone knows, our phones (U,Sola,GO) have 512 RAM. This is a problem, if there are bloatwares on our phone thus slowing it down. But what if there is no BW?? The answer: Yes, there is... three words: Google Play Services.
We can (finally) take advantage of Android app collection! Every application that needs Google Play Services has an alternative. Google Play Services is eating up our phone, especially the fresh versions. Just try to uninstall it from your phone, delete dalvik and cache then reboot, use the phone for some minutes, reboot again. Then you will see that it's much faster because there are more free RAM for the apps that are important in everyday usage, because Play Services is not sitting in the RAM.
BTW Google Play will still work without Google Play Services (but I think Google Services will be needed, but it's light).
OK, So that's all I just wanted you to know. I don't wanted to write this into any ROM's thread because it's generally usable info.
Google Play Services is needed by many apps for Push notifications

I'm using devswift's 4.1.2 unofficial JB ROM, and I've not met any problem after I've uninstalled Play Services. Ok, Hangouts not working anymore (using TalkSecure instead), but as I said there are lot of alternatives for applications.
So I'm curious what application's push notification needs Google Play Services that can't be replaced with other alternative?
BTW the phone is really faster without G.P.S. Erm... and there are no wakelocks because of the newest version's wearable service if you uninstall it

Push on Android devices are only desserved by Google Play Services
I seriously don't understand. I mean push notifications are working for me with incoming SMS, missed call, Talk (hangout) message... etc.
As I've mentioned I have Google Services Framework (4.1.2-485486), and it's light on RAM and the push notifs are working.
I don't know if it's equals an older version of G.P.S or its a different thing. If it's an older version, then the problem is with the new(est) versions of G.P.S.
By the way thanks for the answers and enlightement!

When I say Push notifications I talk about Internet applications who send live notifications without open apps like Twitter, Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Tumblr, Tapatalk, Snapchat, PayPal, Foursquare and many more
Ahhh, okay, then this is why I haven't seen the missing notifications... because I never used any internet apps that uses push
Ok, so thanks for the information, it's good to know. I'll don't miss this feature, but someone may. So thanks again.
It's actually a very useful feature. If you turn off location reporting and switch auto sync off, your device will work faster with some more battery backup.

This.
Yes, remove Play Services from your phone will make your phone faster. Play Services is kinda useful for some apps. Without Play Services they may even cannot launch. Well, it is a paradox.
Just froze those unnecessary apps, and unfreeze when needed , that is what I do.
Many apps won't work without Google Play Services.
