Hi everyone,
I can't make any calls through a bluetooth connected device, on my P20 Lite ANE-LX1. I've tried connecting to a car FM adapter and with my Xiaomi Mi TW Lite earbuds.
Symptoms are:
- devices successfully pair with P20L
- devices successfully conneted, with connection sound issued from the devices
- devices set to enable on calls and music
- devices play music with no problem
- I can chitchat with google assistant through the devices
- when I make a call google assistant uses the paired device to announce "callin person xxxx", there is no calling tone, can't hear or be heard.
Steps taken:
- devices tested with other phones, no problem there
- checked sound volume in calls
- restarted devices multiple times
- disconnected and reconnected devices
- tried every combination of calls/music/contact sharing on BT device properties
- deleted devices, re-paired and re-connected devices
- cache and data deleted for bluetooth backgound process
- reset network connections
- after reseting network, did all the above, several times
- wiped system cache/dalvik
- searched this forum, sorry if I'm missing the answer, I HONESTLY tried to find one
- boot into safe mode, no joy for bluetooth calls
- downgraded with HiSuite, updated, paired devices before restoring apps, no luck
- did most of the above again
- disabled google assistant
I've been searching everywhere for a solution and got nowhere. I think I'm down to either factory restore, which I don't think will solve the issue as I already downgraded, or maybe this could be permission related in the scense that another app could be taking controll over BT. I've been looking at permissions, but can't make an educated guess.
I've been seriously considering risking bricking my phone to unlock the bootloader and flash a different OS as I've only flashed an Android once, 10 years ago (and it was easy back then).
Please advise!

@blackhawk Thanks for the quick reply.
I forgot to mention I already tried wiping cache/dalvik, added to the original post.
As for disabling A2DP I can't find it on my developer options (Android 9/MIUI 9.1.0.381). I'll try to find why and if there's an alternative way to do the switching.
Will wipe cahe/dalvik again, should I find a way to deactivate A2DP.
Android shouldn't be this complicated

That's odd. I don't know if that's normal or not for that device.
Androids can be quit the terror sometimes.
BUMP
Hey everyone, sorry for pushing, any other ideas?
Try bluetooth settings, advanced. See what options you have there.
Hi @blackhawk, no such option. Any advanced options are those accessed via developer settings.
Thanks for replying

Help!
A while ago I used these forums to help when the headphones on my Galaxy S2 were very quiet by using the audio options in the developers options. This worked a treat, but I discovered a while after that, that the in car bluetooth had been affected and that I couldnt hear anyone anymore.
I tried to go back to the settings to change them, but discovered that along with ICS, the audio option no longer functions.
I have followed some of the other advice including restarting the phone, which did nothing, trying a full system wipe and reboot and restore, nothing, updating the firmware, nothing.
Does anyone know how I can access the audio options despite the daft lockout, or if there is something I can do to reinstate the original volume and audio settings that I screwed up as per above?
Cheers in advance for any help.

Maybe try going to Gingerbread from ODIN and then back to ICS, just try it. Maybe it'll work

Thanks, but I am afraid that has not worked. Is there no way of accessing the audio options any more?
My wife has a 2008 Mercedes-Benz ML63 that comes with the COMAND system. She just moved from her trusty iPhone 5 to a GS5. Previously had no issues automatically connecting her iPhone to her car's OEM hands-free system. With the GS5, it won't automatically connect at all. As well, when she manually connects, it takes a few times before it will actually make a connection. Once connected though, it seems to work OK.
Has anyone else had similar issues? I searched around the net, and found articles with other brands of OEM bluetooth units, but there aren't a lot of answers.
At this point, the fact that her phone has such difficulty connecting to her car, she's tossing around the idea of reverting to her iPhone. I'd really like to get this solved, and keep her on Android if at all possible. Thanks in advance.
UPDATE: Here is the manual for the device: http://www.wireless4mb.com/user_manuals/Bluetooth_Cradle_USA_SLR_Web.pdf

Weird. It works fine with my car (not command). For the most part, all the oem units work best with iPhones though.
In the car's settings, has she deleted her iPhone and made sure that the "connect automatically" option is checked for the S5? I don't know how MB does it, but there should be an option like that for each phone.

Thanks for the response. The system in these earlier models isn't that sophisticated. It works a lot like how a Bluetooth portable speaker works - it remembers the last 8 devices that connected to it, but you can't manage that list. I'll have to see if there is a way to force it to forget all of the devices - I didn't see anything in the documentation.
Thanks for the idea.

Ah okay. There must be a way to reset it. Have you tried this?
From a random website.
you reset the system by pressing the "SYS" button to the left of the screen. It results in the first photo below. Then, select "Diagnosis" - that will take you to the second photo, which has a "System Reset" selection.

It didn't work. That appears to be the method to reset the COMAND system (DVD, Satellite radio, AM/FM radio, Navigation, etc) altogether. I'm still trying to figure out a way to just reset the bluetooth adapter.

Ok. Well good luck I would assume your dealer would know how.
Since the Pie update if I have bluetooth on and connected, my s9+ has no notifications sound. It will vibrate but no sound. I have checked what I think it could be and tried the device in safe mode to eliminate an app issue. Seems Pie has a notification bug. How do I submit issue to Google or get help?
Any ideas on the issue?
So I did a network settings reset on the device. Seems to have fixed the issue.

I have the same issue on Samsung S9 with Pie.
Because of your post I reset my network settings but the issue is still there. (all the wifi and Blutooth settings are gone).
So, that doesn't seem to fix it.
You just need to reconnect to your wifi and Bluetooth connections. Mine worked until I restarted the S9 back to no notification sound.
Same problem here. If my bluetooth device is connected, but not in my ear, I don't hear the regular notification sound as I did before the upgrade to Pie.

Sorry, but in my eyes that is not a fix if it doesn't survive a reboot.
It's probably a workaround hack with nasty side effects of loosing all connection info.
Someone tried with a factory reset? I'm thinking about doing it, but if someone did it and it did not work...

I believe Samsung can solve this issue, but as usual they are lazy as their monthly update
Notification Problems in Android 9.0
I don't know whether this is the correct forum, but I am having problems with repeating notifications that worked perfectly well in 8.0 before the update.
I use an app "Prof Reminder or Missed Call Reminder" that allows repeating notifications with a specified notification sound and repeat period.
With this app, I have been unable to get repeat notifications with WhatsApp, the first comes through, but then after nothing (it seems the signal is dismissed).
When using BlueMail (email app) repeat notifications work perfectly.
Have checked app the settings, permissions etc., and everything looks correct, been through it so many times and double checked everything.
Cannot understand why one app works perfectly, yet another will not work!
Would appreciate any advice or experience, if this is the wrong forum please let me know.
Were are the Notification being stored since Pie?
It looks like to me they are in the system and not reachable unless rooted. Since Pie, I've lost needed sounds that no longer are available.
Is there a way to add back some of the lost sounds that existed prior to Pie?
Notifications for indiviual apps do not sound. I have an app sound for messages but it does not work nor do anyother app sounds work even the Settings Sound does not sound for any app that is requestiing an individual sound. Is this just mine or are others having the same problem???
My notification sound is reset to zero about every day or other day since the upgrade to Pie (no bluetooth involved). No idea what causes this but I am pretty sure it's up to Samsung to fix.
It's occurring on Pie based ROM's. Verified in LineageOS 16 & crDroid 5.4. When connected to Bluetooth , phone is not ringing in speaker but vibrates. So you'll miss calls if you not wearing the Bluetooth headset.
Reported at https://github.com/crdroidandroid/android_frameworks_base/issues/245 , but they mentioned this needs to fixed by core team.
Lately I have been noticing when listening to audio via Bluetooth either with headphones or car. My audio cuts out for a few split seconds. There are days when this does not happen. Anyone else have this issue. Phone is all updated software wise.

I have the exact same issue with my Bluetooth headphones, no idea how to fix it.
Had the same problem with the Mi TWB Basic 2 (know as Redmi Airdots). I flashed the lastest firmware for them. And went on my phone and made some tweaks.
Here you go:
1 - follow this path to unlock the Dev options hidden menu (Settings - About Phone - Software information - Click 7 times on Build number). It will show when you go back to Settings, just under About Phone.
2 - Go to the Dev options section and set those values
_ turn on Enable Gabeldorsche
_ Bluetooth AVRCP version : 1.6
_ Bluetooth PBAP version : 1.2
Once done, unpair all Bluetooth devices already stored in your phone, reboot and and then link them once again.
That's how I managed to fix my problem.
Hope it helps
Hello. The sound on the phone disappeared in general, in all applications, when connecting headsets. Full 0. I didn’t do anything, I sat down on the phone, charged it, turned it on after charging and that’s it. It happened once after the foundation of the firmware and android 13, the reset helped. I thought it would work this time, but no. After the reset, the sound did not appear ...
After a long trial of different methods. I saw that after restarting the phone, if you immediately start the player. Then the music appears for 3-4 seconds and disappears and then again there is no sound until the reboot. I think this is due to the loading of some configs that are annoying, so the sound disappears. Question? So what's now...
Did you changed region?
Need more details...
Which app
USB C adapter or bt audio
Any conflicting apps running in background?
Root / stock
Chinese or global model
Firmware global Europe. It turned out to solve the problem by wipe date. And yes, there was no sound anywhere, neither in calls, nor in multimedia, nor in the headset.
You ignoring what ppl asked you. Why did you write here ? Obliviously for this kind of problem and after changing Android version a full wipe is needed/ recommended. Also that loss of sound could be a problem if you switch region improperly.

Well, you're funny. I wrote what happened. By the time I was asked a question about the specifics, a day had passed. I did not sit and update the site to find out who wrote what. I searched all over the internet for solutions. And I found it before they answered here. And yes, I didn’t change my region, the update came over the air!
