When I mirror my S21 to my Roku Ultra, the normal wifi icon disappears. Does this mean it is talking wifi direct to the roku and wifi direct doesn't display the icon? Or is something more confusing going on? (It seems to work fine, at least as long as I reboot both the phone and the roku immediately before starting the mirror, but I'm just confused by the icon disappearing).

I'm having a lot of wi-fi issues with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 that I haven't had with other tablets. I returned the first one because of this and the replacement is suffering from the same issue.
I can't use streaming music apps like Pandora or Tune In Radio for long periods, because those apps freeze up and it seems like the wifi is going to sleep after some period of time when the screen is off. The wifi sleep policy is set to never.
While I never see the wifi disconnecting, I do see the icon turning gray quite often. Not sure what gray means, I've even been able to download apps while the icon was still gray.
I don't really see any complaints about the wifi. Do you guys think it works fine?
Kinda on the fence about returning this for a third Galaxy Tab 10.1 or just returning it for a refund and hoping the Thrive is not too heavy for me.
I do like the tablet. But the wifi is just killing me. I really do like streaming music.
I would attempt to update the firmware on your wireless router before you swap the tab again...or replace the router itself. I've never had a disconnect on any of the four wireless access points I access daily.
I know with the Cyanogen series of ROMs the grey/Green (or Cyan) color on the wifi is used to indicate that the device can make a connection to google's servers.
Not sure if it is the same here...

I've tested with four different routers between my home and work. Unfortunately the issue has occurred with all of them.
This puzzles me. I've had two Xooms and two Transformers and none of them had this problem. Now I've had two Galaxy Tab 10.1s and both have had it.
I'm just having rotten luck with Android tablets I guess.

I'm having similar issues with mine, just assuming it is a firmware issue that will be resolved with time.
The router can handle only five devices make sure you dont have more than five devices also turn off all the wifi devices like xoom etc unplug modem and router for few minute and then plug back modem after all the lights of modem plug the router then after your router restarted turn your galaxy tab on and put it in flight mode and then take it out of flight mode now the problem should be fixed. Remember donor turn your other devices on until you connect galaxy tab to wifi and surf and check how connection is now.
To me it just looks like router issue. Also you can check wifi connectivitity where stores have free wifi like Starbucks etc
I have the gray wireless icon on my tablet as well, but I do not have wireless connectivity issues. I have seen it blue recently, connectivity was fine then as well. not sure why the wireless icon is gray one day and blue the next, but I connect to a series of different routers since I travel a lot.
My icon is gray when I wake up the tab, then turns blue, but I do have it set to turn off wifi when it sleeps.
The one time my wireless icon turned gray was when I had no internet connectivity, but was connected to the wireless network. It turned out that my daughter had accidentally turned off the modem, so although the network was up, we had no net access. My opinion is that gray indicates some type of connection error.

You can try Advanced Wifi Lock (Free) app. I have not had issues on my tab, however I did on my TB and this app worked like a charm for me.
I had the same issue.
I reset my router's configuration to default and just set up the typical WiFi settings and left everything else at default.
Since then, no problems!
I believe it is due to some mysterious router settings. Because the day before i first recognized the WiFi issue, i played with the router's settings.

How do you know that the router can only handle 5 devices? He didn't state what he was using, most routers (except for 3G/4G WiFi Hotspot devices) can handle FAR more than 5.
I'm having an issue that has been bothering me. I run Etrade Pro with streaming data and charts, and when I leave my home, it does not automatically cut the wifi and switch to LTE or 4g. My app stops and says there is no data. This has happened a lot and I wonder if there are some settings that need to assure that mt cell signal automatically kicks in when Wifi cuts out.
ANother problem is that if I approach an area where there is wifi, the phone connects, and i usually get a data issue again.
I also got the same problem when i stream a video while on wifi and then leave the wifi zone, so I know it is not an Etrade app specific problem,
Any advice would be appreciated. What I am having to do is manually shut off wifi and then restart the app when the 4g kicks in, and I know the phone is designed to handle this for me.

I'm not sure this is something we have control over, I was reading over a white paper qualcomm wrote on the matter: http://www.qualcomm.com/media/documents/files/3g-wifi-seamless-offload.pdf
Our phone is 3GPP R8 however, I'm not sure at&t's network supports dual stack mobile IP, so therefor the handoff between wifi and 3g would have to interrupt data.
WHat bothers me is that I just came from an Iphone4 and the iPhone switched from wifi to cell, and my Etrade App kept running. There may have been a momentary lag, but i didn't have to close the app and start it again.
Let me look into it more when I get home. At work youtube is blocked on the company network so I can't test if a video continues between handover here.
WHen I leave my home and know that I am out of wifi range, I still see the wifi symbol on the home screen but it looks like there are no bars of strength. It's like the thing is still trying to draw data through wifi that is well out of range.
Frustrating.

So if the wifi symbol is on the status bar that means the phone is still connected to the wifi (or at least thinks it is).
I was not able to reproduce your problem with youtube when I was home. I started a video on wifi in my home, and then walked out the front door and down the hall until it lost the connection, the wifi symbol disappeared and it just had to re-buffer a little bit after it switched to LTE then the video continued.
I'm wondering about my new android tablet me176c's wifi stability.
It connected to my router(IPTime N604T, from Korea) all day very well.
But, sometimes it occurs that despite well connected and has good signal strength, no internet access IN APPs at all !!
About one time a day this happens. very annoying
Then scroll down from above, turn off Wifi, and turn on Wifi again, it goes fine.
During these days I found that it often appears on viewing YouTube video.
I changed wifi connection to Static IP Address, turned off any battery saving options in wifi settings.....not solved.
My another tablet TN7 doesn't have symptom like this.
Any advice will be appreciated. :good:
Since I always tried to get the most batterylife out of my android phones, I would always set my device up, so that wifi would turn off automatically when in standby.
Now a friend of mine, who also got the S6, told me, that with the S6 I should set the wifi, so that it never turns off, not even when the phone gets to standby. His argument is, that when I'm constantly at home or at work (with wifi connections available) the wifi would use less battery power, than the 3G or 4G connection.
Also he sent me this:

(cant post the link ._.)
Is there any truth to this? Should I really put the wifi sleep policy on "never"?
Any opinions?
This is a two-fold question that requires two answers. You are both half right. Wi-Fi should be disabled when there's no hotspot nearby. Otherwise, your device is wasting battery seeking for a connection. On the other hand, if you're already connected to a recognizable Wi-Fi hotspot, Wi-Fi should be on even while the device is locked. It would have a battery-adverse effect if your device has to re-enable Wi-Fi each time it sends out beacons for email, facebook, twitter polling. Nothing preserves more battery than enable Wi-Fi and mobile data only when those sources are available. You can use one of those automatic Wi-Fi/LTE enablers found in the Play Store.
On point!!

WI-FI takes less power than 3G, 4G connection. That for sure, i've tried it several times.
What you need: Monitor / TV with HDMI, Chromecast, Two Android devices one of which can have an active hotspot and the other needs only wifi.
I am not going to explain how to connect to chromecast in detail. You can find that with a google search if you don't know how already.
I'll refer to the android phones as phone 1 (active hotspot) and phone 2 (only needs wifi).
Press the reset button on the chromecast to start fresh.
Turn on the hotspot on phone 1
Connect to phone 1's hotspot on phone 2 by finding the hotspot's name and using its password.
Download and install Google Home on phone 2.
On phone 2, open Google Home and create a new HOME and name it anything you want.
Find "set up new device" in the same Google Home and continue to set up the Chromecast device by letting the search find it.
Use "other wifi" in the list that appears for connecting with Chromecast which will let you enter the HOTSPOT name and password. That's the only place that will see your phone 1's hotspot.
VERY IMPORTANT STEP enable GUEST MODE which is in the Google Home settings.
Now the connection should start to complete and establish. You are done with phone 2 and don't even need it anymore.
Turn off / unplug the chromecast. Before you turn it on again, go back to Phone 1 and make sure Hotspot is on. (I didn't need to turn off my home router but maybe some people might, IDK).
Now turn on or plug back in Chromecast. It should connect pretty quickly to you hotspot on phone 1.
Turn on cast screen or just go to the app you want to cast if it has its own cast icon.
It should cast for you as it does for me.
Maybe you have audio without picture on Netflix. I had that when I just turned on cast screen, but then by tapping the cast Icon in the Netflix app that issue was solved.
Now you should be able to take that chromecast and phone 1 anywhere you want and have it work without Wi-FI.
GOOD LUCK
Hi, this only allows me to cast from apps like youtube and netflix. I can't cast my phone screen to CC as my phone is now acting as the hotspot. Is this right? I tried for an hour to cast my phone screen but it just won't connect with the CC.
Thank you.
