I bought the MX10 Android TV Box for my elderly parents and want to make it as simple as possible for them to operate. One of the things that they always have problems with is shutting the box down properly. Currently, a short press of the physical remote control power button puts the box to sleep. Is there a way to get rid of the sleep mode and just automatically fully shutdown the box anytime they press power? To currently shutdown, they need to do a long press of the power button which is then followed by a prompt asking "Do you want to shutdown" and then they have to press a couple more times to click 'OK' which is more complicated than they need it to be. The box appears to have root priveliges so is there a simple code I can add to 'build.prop' so that they can completely shutdown the box with one quick press of the remote power button (rather than it going to sleep)? I have tried 'poweroff.doubleclick=0' and that had no effect so am hoping there's some code that will work?
I gather by the lack of response that there's no way to shutdown the box with one quick press of the remote power button?
Check out my problem, I got diffrent box but still...
I bought andorid box that came with remote, power button worked, also there are buttons that can be set up for managing TV, I've set those up to...few days late only those tv buttons work, non android key is working...I go on ali express and order air mouse type remote, infra red one. Plug it in, copy code from old remote to new one, everything works just fine, power buton etc. Than I go and try old remote, go figure, he work just fine...all buttons!
It worked for few months, than the other day original mouse i broken again. only tv buttons work while air remote is all ok except power button. I've tryed everything and google everything...nothing out there...I know android box is like a phone, no power but on it so no way to turn it off completely, but both remotes manage to turn it off atleast to sleep, now non of them can...

Hello everyone,
This feature used to be available in Eclair, and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about getting it work work with the GSII.
My reason for asking is this:
I just got a new BT keyboard for my GSII, and it w/ mouse works great with MHL for sitting back and doing almost anything. But If the screen turns of (which is should after a few minutes) there is no way for me to unlock it.
I can map a power button command to a key, but that just turns it on and brings me to the lockscreen. I can also map menu command to one of the keys, but again GSII has no " double tap menu button to unlock (MTU)" feature.
Does anyone know how to either re-enable this MTU feature, or how to map the keyboard key to unlock command?
If I put a pin, maybe i could use the keyboard to unlock, but then I'd always have to use a pin/pass when I wan't hooked up, or switch back and forth which has obvious disadvantages.
Thank you!
Best,
Endor
Has anyone tried this remote?https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00U3PFUAC/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A34OAPZOHWTNSP

I've tried a few remotes with a few android boxes I've had and this one is the best I've found. I bought the one called 'Aerb' but you'll see a number of resellers on ebay selling the exact same device. It runs on 2 AAA batteries.
What I really really like is that the four coloured buttons on the bottom AND the big red power button on the
top left are learning/programmable IR blasting, so you can program them to turn your TV on/off, change inputs, increase TV volume etc. using your TV remote. The other buttons are not programmable.

This is the best remote by far I have purchased for this box. I am far away from my player right now but I will try and confirm if the mic works with it asap...

Does the home button bring you to the home screen ? And by programming the bottom color buttons to change the volume or do the actual volume buttons work? Also its to bad the buttons don't light up . Thanks that would be awesome if you could check the mic . Also are you able to like use the remote underneath a blanket or do you have to point it at the dongle?

Does the home button bring you to the home screen?
- yes
And by programming the bottom color buttons to change the volume or do the actual volume buttons work?
- you program the coloured buttons on the bottom using your TV remote, so they will turn the volume on your TV up and down, NOT the vol on the android software.
Also its too bad the buttons don't light up.
- no they do not.
Thanks that would be awesome if you could check the mic .
- *** I cannot seem to get my mic working with voice search. The remote I have purchased has a microphone, but has NO microphone button to enable the mic. There are reports of users who have got their mic working. See here for a picture of a remote with a mic button (the blue one in the bottom right corner) http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=203623
Also are you able to like use the remote underneath a blanket or do you have to point it at the dongle?
- you do NOT have to point the remote at the dongle. It does not work with line of sight like IR remotes. The distance limit is about 15 metres I'd guess. Farther with better batteries
Using the stock ROM, the following keys work:
home button
play/ pause and FF RW buttons
context menu
OK and d-pad button
keyboard letters
Using stock ROM the following keys DO NOT work for me:
soft volume up/down
mute
microphone doesn't work
BACK key doesn't work (this sucks, it registers as a 'right mouse click' under stock rom - doesn't do anything, must use home key instead. it also doesn't work under lollirock either. Luckily under lollirock the soft 'recent apps, home and back' buttons are always visible, so I just use that soft back arrow on the screen.
all of the 'alt keys' on the keyboard - ie the function keys, ! mark etc. These all work fine under lollirock.
I also have a generic android box running full android 5.1 and almost all of the keys on this remote work fully with it, including the hard back key.
Let me know if you've got any other questions!
I have installed the newest Malaysk ROM on my HU. On the picture attached you can see the Advanced Power Menu like it should be. In my case there is only Reboot after long pressing the button on the top right. Does it belong to the launcher? If I am pressing the button only short my device turns black, but the knobs are still lightning (also you can hear the radio). It seems that the device is hanging up so I had to press the reset button.
Also I want to know If its possible to shutdown the unit completely. Without having connected the ACC wire.
I have the same question about the pwer menu. Like you I only get one option.
I bought an MXQ-4K as for an IPTV STB box. My problem is when, I press the power button , on the remote controller, then the box going to sleep, and did not shutdown. In this condition, the stream is still coming from the stream server, allocating bandwidth, also when I press the button again, I see that the program is still running.
What I want to accomplish , is that when I press the power on the remote, the box shutdown. When I press it again, then it should boot up.
The device is rooted, on the /system/usr/keylayout files, I see a layout which belongs to the remote 110b0030_pwm.kl , there is an event for the powerbutton like this: key 116 POWER WAKE
Anyone can suggest something what I could try?
Thanks
My Chromebook used to turn off the screen anytime I pressed the power button. I often use it to type notes during presentations, and I loved having a fast easy way to turn off the screen to save power if I knew I wouldn’t be typing anything for 5 or 10 minutes.
A few months ago, a ChromeOS update changed this so it only works it tablet mode now, pressing the power button in laptop mode now opens an on-screen menu with options to shutdown, log off, or lock screen. The best workaround I have found so far is to use the brightness keys to get the screen off, but it’s a pain to get it back to the right brightness level every time.
I have the Chromebook in developer mode, and I would like to do one of the following (in order from most to least preferred):
1. Restore power button functionality to how it was before.
2. Re-purpose the lock screen button on the keyboard for turning off the screen.
3. Add a keyboard shortcut to toggle the screen on and off.
4. Add a “Turn off screen” option to the current on-screen menu.
I never really modified ChromeOS before. Has anyone else done these things? Where should I begin? Thank you.
Here is some relevant documentation, maybe the information at the bottom is useful?:
https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/platform2/+/master/power_manager/docs/power_buttons.md
I was able to do it by adding the flag "--force-tablet-power-button" to /etc/chrome_dev.conf and restarting the UI, but changes to that file don't seem to persist accross system reboots.
