Advice: rootable phone for Boost Transformed network - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, guys, I need help. I need a phone I can root so that I can use hotspot tethering without limits. And it has to be compatible with Boost's Transformed network, because that's where the good deal is.
So, I bought a phone, but now, to my abject horror, I'm reading that I might never be able to unlock it. It's a Moto G Pure, XT2163-6.
So, help me. What the hell can I do? Can you recommend something super cheap and rootable so I can get back on track? It can be something I buy secondhand. That's ok. But I need it as soon as possible. I'm gonna have no internet connection at home if I can't straighten this out.
Please, help. I'm really worried right now.
Thank you.
Edit: It doesn't absolutely need to be a phone. It could be a mobile hotspot if they are available.

[Q] AT&T phone with T-mobile?

Here is my dilemma: If I am using a phone on Tmobile that has absolutely No data plan at all, but I want to upgrade to an unlocked AT&T, will it recognize that it is a smart phone and try to put on a data plan automatically? Or will it not recognize the IMEI number and let me continue to use the phone with absolutely no data plan at all?
Hopefully that was not too confusing... I need an upgraded phone for someone, but can't have a data plan at all, and they really want a smartphone.
Come on, surely someone has wondered this before and tried it out? I tried to search on google, but couldn't find anything. Don't let me down guys!

Searching would have told you the answer to your question. But I am in a good mood so Ill answer you. Unless they have the IMEI in their system then no it wont show up as a smart phone, but if they do then they will see it and switch you. As long as it is unlocked from another carrier then odds are they wont have it in their system. They have not started sharing IMEIs yet.

Unlocking GSM / SIM for us carriers

In reference to THIS thread about unlocking the GSM to enable the use of a sim card from a US carrier, I was wondering if the phone works exactly the same once I actually switch it to GSM (mainly data) and does it depend on which carrier I switch to. I wonder which one would work best with this phone.
Well anyway I tried reading into the steps to make sure I understood before I even begin to tamper with it but im still unsure and nowhere near tech savvy and im sure I will find a way to screw it up. I was wondering if anyone can :fingers-crossed: OH SO KINDLY!! walk me through these steps or at least the parts I have major trouble with.. I would appreciate it.
I HOPE IM NOT ASKING FOR TOO MUCH.!! Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

there are many threads on how to do this.. more than one and its not that hard... root,, unlock, and then flash japanese radio. If you have new 2.3.5 firmware you are out of luck until someone figures out how to unlock the bootloader. Bootloader MUST be unlocked before you can flash japanese radio.
How do I know which firmware I have?
What about data, will it work with an unlimited everything plan?

[Q] Best way to Use LG G3 Without Service

I think this is the first time I have posted, even though I have been using xda for years. Anyway I bought this LG G3 from Swappa and low and behold it has an unpaid bill tied to it and cannot be activated with Ting and I don't have a Sprint account. I have no need to activate it since I use WiFi for everything. So I decided to keep it since I got a good deal and didn't want to wait to return and buy another for $50 more. Right now I am stock and have not attempted to root the device. I have rooted every other phone I have had, due to the software being really bad or outdated. This is the first phone I have had every had where I actually like the stock ROM that came with it(probably because of Lolipop and LG really taking Googles design sense.
My problem is that even though I keep the device in Airplane mode with WiFi on, the device of course attempts to connect to a network every time I power on.(I have to click emergency call and then home) Also the Sprint Data optimizer is using about 20% of my battery, probably searching for service it will never find.
So my question is, If I do decide to root the device. What would be the best ROM to use for my situation of no service? I prefer Stock Roms unless AOSP has a remote control, which I don't believe it does. Also do I really need to care whether I am on zv8 or zv4 since I do not have a connection to a network?
Also. Is there anyway to possibly get T-Mobile service on the LG G3 Sprint Variant? Even if it is a slow data connection.
Thank you if anyone has any answers to any of my questions.
(Check other post)
You can flash this ROM for GSM and check HERE for the remote stuff and other mods and tweaks.

Update Question (running 4.4.1)

Hi my G3 is rooted and running 4.4.1. I have a software update that I have not downloaded since maybe May? I blocked any incoming updates after that. My question is if I do update it will it lose root? Is there a way to unroot the phone totally to sell or give it to a family member? Another question is if I do unroot does mobile hotspot still work? I have been on rooted phones so long and recently gave up unlimited gf plan b/c the price hike. I didn't use that much data anyway BUT I do tether as it is my only source of wifi in my house. I need it to run mobile hotspot.
If a person buys any other phone from V does the mobile hot spot still work or is it extra?
My Dad needs a new phone but he needs mobile hotspot bec he is on the road a lot. He has a nexus (older) and we have never paid for the hotspot so I really don't know how it works.
Thanks for any advice and I apologize if there are any threads answering these questions, I did look but didn't find anything that helped on these questions.
If you unroot the phone, you will lose your hotspot hack, but if you leave the phone stock rooted you can use the hotspot hack.

If you update the phone with jasmine rom or Sky dragon Rom you don't lose root.
It sounds like you might want to flash your phone completely back to stock, which, if you're selling it or giving it away, would make the most sense. This would delete anything on the phone and re-image the phone's entire drive (erasing photos, videos, data, etc) back to the way it was from the factory. If you do this, you will lose root. If you do this, the hotspot hack goes away, but that shouldn't prevent someone from using the phone as a mobile hotspot. My understanding is that the hotspot hack is is NOT needed to use your phone as a hotspot. More specifically, the hack to allow phones on an unlimited plan to use their phone as a hotspot.

BOOST J327P Tethering

So My old galaxy S4 with cyanogenmod which tethered unlimited without a problem broke last week when I tried to replace the screen and destroyed the digitizer.
I bought this J327p and now my primary source of internet is gone with the tethering limitations.
If I can't get this to work I am returning it tonight.
I rooted the phone and I tried the easily searchable suggestions people have to get this working.
One guy suggested an app called Wifi Tether Router but you have to pay for it and I don't want to do that if it's not guaranteed to work.
I edited the boot.prop file but that also didn't work.
Does anyone know anything I can do to get tethering to work, if not what phone do you suggest I buy at a maximum $250. I really don't need much from my phone except good reception for internet.
I downloaded this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/rom-pl1-samsung-galaxy-j3-emerge-sm-t3580396
But I'm not sure what that is or if I should try it.
any useful suggestions really appreciated.
Also this is a bit over my head so please use full explanations and definitions of terms.
use easytether pro it usrs yr adb to create a parallel data sourced internet, juts plug it in usb and download the modem /drivr of mobilesrteam.com
