ROG Phone 6 freezes then goes into boot loop - Asus ROG Phone Questions & Answers

Cheers everyone,
have been using my Asus ROG Phone 6 (12GB/256GB version) for 2 weeks now and have several issues.
The main issue is that the phone will freeze, especially when using the camera app, then crash and sometimes won't reboot and is stuck in a boot loop.
Happened to me twice already so had to set it up twice now, which takes quite some time until everything is set up again.
Does anyone know if there is already a solution for this? Does anyone else had this problem already?
Baseband-Version is: M2.13.33.16-Dallas_000370
Kernel-Version: 5.10.101-android12-9-00001
Build Number: SKQ1.220406.001.WW_Phone-32.2810.2207.134-0 release keys
Thanks everyone!

Scrutinize your 3rd party apps... especially power management or 3rd party launchers if any.
Likely an app with cam permissions otherwise.
Possible firmware corruption or a hardware failure.

Yesterday, when it happened, I tried and had no other apps installed other than the ones from the factory. Launcher has been stock all the time.
Will investigate further, thanks for your hints! Will contact Asus for an update.

Sent it back. That's not normal...

Yeah, opened up a ticket already, waiting for them to get back to me though.
I thought there was maybe an easy fix for this or that it is a known issue with a fix around though.

Hi GrossmeisterB, i am new here, my Rog Phone 6 keep boot loop as well, when i power on after half way charging for zero %. may i know, do you flash rom or just factory reset? i tried factory reset, but problem still not solved

Hi there, first, short update on my phone: sent it back to the shop and got a new one that is now working flawlessly. So it seems the camera issue was due to a hardware error.
I just did factory resets to not void the warranty.
It seems like you need to return yours, too...

Boot problem. Would appreciate any advice

I recently had a problem with my XDA 1. It started running VERY VERY slowly (kind of like a computer that was infected with 10000 spyware programs). The battery was constantly showing that it was going to shutdown but yet seemed to still operate.
I tried doing a backup to SD Card while it was on the cradle, yet after about 4 minutes of usage it would automatically soft reset - interrupting the backup.
So i thought stuff it, i don't care about the data i will just do a hard reset. Now, after doing the hard reset i can't even get it to turn on. The O2 Screen comes up and the light flashes on and off every few seconds. It does this for about 45 seconds then switches off again.
Does it sound like the mainboard is gone? Could it just be the battery? Are there any home repairs ideas? I do have a second xda i can pull apart if i must to test what is wrong with this one.
Thanks.

boot problem
if a desktop pc were to exhibit these sort of problems then i would definitely suspect a motherboard problem. if you are still under warranty then straight back to the store is the place for you. if not then scour the forums for solutions fixes or suggestions, there are some very experienced people on here - not me -

since it's still under warrenty I strongly advice to replace it or at least to get it repaired by the center ... but if you tend to feel it's a challenge for you to fix it your self, then you may do the following to eleminate the possibility of S/W problem ...
1. Flash the ROM with a new OS image. This should solve any ROM problem.
2. Make sure you didn't turn on the "Calib/Debug" option in the GSM menu of the boot loader.
BTW, was the radio part OK while having this problem ?
actually its not under warranty, i bought it off a friend when he upgraded to his XDA II. Im not sure what the radio version was, i jsut put any details in there because i couldnt boot to find out what it was at.
Can you flash the rom without having to boot it up? Are there the instructions on how to do it on this site?
Thanks.

[Q] Back from repair - does it sound fixed to you?

Hi all,
Got, or rather gonna get, it back on Wed. This is a 2nd warranty repair trip this fall for the same problem: phone reboots at random sometimes 10+ times a day, sometimes not all. And random as scrolling through Settings random. Samsung system reports it as:
*****
Original Problem:
TECHNICAL INQUIRY - POWER - POWER CYCLE
Problem found:
WON'T DOWNLOAD SW/PRL
Solution:
S/W UPDATED
*****
It felt like a hardware problem to me. Looks like all they did is updated some software and/or PRL. Does that sound like it could possibly resolve the random reboots problem I've been having? I'm skeptical and thought I'd ask.
Thanks!

Depends on what all you've tried before sending it in. Have you tried wiping the phone and flashing multiple roms to see if the issue persisted? If so, then it's most likely a hardware issue. If not, then it's possibly a software issue.

I've flashed it back to stock 2 times before sending it in. In both cases phone would continue exhibiting the same behavior ie sporadic reboots for about a day, especially in the first few hours after re-flash. It'd then settle in into a no-reboots state. Not sure what to contribute that too. I did do a full wipe and didn't load practically any apps on it. So, may be certain parts of the RAM weren't being exercised. I don't know, just guessing here. Not sure what to make out of that pattern I mentioned though.
Thanks for your help.

Phone freezes, requires restart

I installed jellybam 7.4 the day it was released and since then I had an issue where the phone would regularly freeze with the only way of fixing it to restart the phone (holding in the power button).
I had originally just upgraded without wiping the phone, so figured last night I'd do a complete wipe (zoots megawipe) and start again. However today I am still getting the same freezes (in fact twice in the last 10 mins!).
Any ideas what might be causing this? Is there any diagnosis app that i can run to see what's causing the freezing?
I wiped again today and installed 7.5 and still the same issue.
Thanks in advance!
I'm having the sort of the problem so I thought I could borrow this thread since our problems seems to be similar.
Can boot the device without any problems, but it freezes randomly.
Tried:
* Different roms (want to use Slim Bean and are currently using it)
* Full wipe / Factory reset
* Wipe cache / Dalvik cache
* Not allowing Android to restore my apps after factory reset (in case some app was causing this)
* Tried latest Perseus kernel (but got a bootloop so reflashed everything)

Very bad Samsung After Sale Services
I'm very unhappy with Samsung
I got the same problem. Cannot use it because the screen freezes all the time so I need to unplug the battery for restart each time.
Then I decided to sent my phone to Samsung repair services. After 2 weeks, they sent it back to me.
Back to home, I turned on my phone and made a reset for the first installation but when I tried to connect into my google account, the screen has been frozen once again !!!. Then after and after ...
So the screen touch issue has not been solved even if my phone just came back from Samsung repair services. !
According to the repair document, they has just reinstalled the firmware but did not take care of the hardware.
So if this problem is well known why Samsung did not take care of this problem correctly ?
Now, They keep my phone for more than 4 weeks and did not give me a decent replacement phone with 3G at least.
For those who has got this problem, I recommand you to write clearly the problem with a letter joined to your request for the repair services before you send your phone.
Thanks.

Thanks for your answer
Really hope this is the cause and fix for our collective problems.
Update:
After doing what I was told to do in that post the freezing was significaly lower. They still occur but not as much, from 40 times yesterday to 1 today so far.
Unfortunately I came across that thread a couple days ago, have tried the DFG method lots of times and I still get freezes. Now arguably they aren't now as frequent, but I've had days where it doesn't freeze at all, so that may just be luck.
Possibly stupid question... Are you able to flash a new firmware whilst keeping your custom ROM?

[Q] Help LG-P760 frequent crash

LG-P760 stock Android 4.1.2
Only basic apps, FB, gmail etc.
1. Factory/hard reset
2. Works around 3-4 days perfectly, then starts to crash.
By crash I mean black screen, nothing helps, only battery pull.
3. After first crash, starts crashing more frequently. Happens only in standby.
Worst was today: If I start phone, log in, then it wont crash before I put it in standby. First time in standby, within 30 second, it had crashed.
twice crashed when someone tried to call me. Vibrated once, then crashed.
I would like to avoid replacing my phone.
Any ideas how to find the source of this problem? Any recommendations?

I had the same problem with Vietnam Rom and it was the baseband. I changed to the baseband from ICS from a Rom of my country so I have Vietnam Rom+Original ICS baseband and everything works well.
Thanks.
Although, I understand it mostly is problem when you have unlocked bootloader.
I am running stock everything.
And they have problem with rebooting phone, mine crashes and freezes.
Weird is that it starts around third day of normal use.
I think I have to take on a quest with a warranty. Does anyone know, can I contact LG straight without the provider, where I bought the phone?

I haven't unlocked it. The problem was the same: SOD sleep of death, when the screen goes off you can't do anything but pull the battery.
But if you can use the warranty use it. You should find the warranty info in the box to know where send it in your city.

Thanks. I will search into it. Sleep of death is new expression for me.
I only have phone, it came from relatives who threw away receipt + box.
Luckily I managed to get new receipt from provider yesterday (I dont think they usually give out receipts twice), so now I can use local warranty.
Thanks everyone for replying. I will post update when I have final solution.
Since you are stock you might want to consider flashing the kdz to see if that helps. Good luck!

I'm having the exact same issue with mine. I've heard everything from "try a different SD card" to "factory reset," and nothing seems to permanently fix the issue. What I've found kind of sort of works is just reboot it a whole bunch until it finally comes up and doesn't do it any more. From there, I'm good to go until the battery runs out or I need to reboot it because all the bloatware is causing it to glitch. This usually means that I have to reboot my device 10+ times in a row every few days. Hopefully, you found a more viable fix than this.

Hi
I managed to kind of solve this issue. Because I am not sure how, I haven't closed thread yet.
Anyway, I warranted device, they re-installed soft. Came back, same thing. After around weeks use, SOD. Factory reset. After that, things went interesting.
I tried not to leave it idle. Always had something running. I also had noticed by the time it never occurred when it was plugged in or music was playing.
One day it did it again, but I was in a hurry and just disregarded it. I did something(I was busy, maybe just plugged it in automatically?) and it came back up. It took like 10 sec for screen to start, but it did just wake up. And it haven't had crash ever since. I have no idea is this solution or is this just some coincidence and I am not keen to factory reset again, to see will it reoccur. It's my only phone
TLDR: Managed to get out of sleep of death, haven't reoccurred since.

To return or not to return?

Hi everyone,
Loving my lg g5. Issue is ive only owned it a few days and it just went absolutely crazy after i was setting up some apps. Went into a sort of bootloop. It kept rebooting, then id have 30 sec to 1 min of using it, itd freeze, then reset again, all the while being very warm. It was so weird, happened about 10 times before i factory reset. And so far so good.
But should i be worried? Im still within my 14 days from o2 so could get a replacement. Or do i look at it as a one off? Anyone else had this?
Many thanks.
There hasn't been any reports about bootloop for the G5, I wouldn't worry that much since after factory reset is working because that indicates that it might be a software problem that got fixed with the reset.
If you want to play it safe you can return it and get a new unit, if they accept it since they will see that the phone now is working just fine.
As far as I have seen there are couple of bootloop issues. Hard decision. I'd still take it and if it happens again immediately send it in for repair and I wouldn't bother trying to fix it by myself
