Privacy and Security
So here you can find some useful tips which I can personally can give you. You can find a more advanced guides if you look in the internet but I just want to keep it simple for casual and normal users.
Lets get started:
Prefer Android ROMs & Kernels with SELinux Enforcing. You can find informations here.
If you want to avoid Google and Play Store (De-Google), you can choose a ROM without GApps preinstalled like LineageOS and use Droid-ify client which is an installable catalogue of FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) applications for the Android platform. The client makes it easy to browse, install, and keep track of updates on your device. Note that not all apps from Play Store will be available in Droid-ify or F-Droid. Only Open Source projects. You can find alternatives though. Alternative you can use LineageOS for microG or any ROM which support signature spoofing and can support microG and use Aurora Store which can have access to Play Store apps.
Check the Privacy and Security section in my Collection to find useful apps to use.
Always prefer Open Source or well popular Apps, Programs & Stuff. Open Source doesn't mean it's 100% safe but it's unlikely to have something suspicious, since you and other users can check the code in GitHub or in any other code hosting platform the "stuff" is hosted.
Always download and install Apps, Programs & Stuff from official sources and do not use redirection links from different sites. Google is your friend to find the official source of the stuff you want.
Avoid using Cracked Apps, Programs & Stuff, especially your Windows OS should be clean. There are a lot of websites you can get cheap keys, around ~10$, for Official Windows & Office, no need to mess with crack generators and all these. Keep in mind the most popular programs you may want to get cracked, are more highly possible to contain virus/malware/spyware.
Always check the permissions an app requires, before download and install it to your device. If an app ask for permissions which has nothing to do with the app functionality then it's should be reconsider or ask the developer why these permissions needed. You can also check if the app includes trackers and ads with Îľxodus.
Use the default Windows Security & Malwarebytes & Virus Total to scan your files whenever you want, prefered before open or install them.
Use the addon/extension uBlock Origin in your Browser, if it doesn't have it build-in like Brave. Always verify the source of addons/extensions in your browser. Avoid installing random and unpopular addons/extensions. Keep it minimal and clean, so browser can be fast and safe, no need bunch of extensions.
Optional, you can also use the tool ShutUP10++ or Privacy.Sexy to disable major tracking features of Windows.
If you are using VPN, always check the terms and rules of the provider. Avoid random VPN Services. Using a VPN will not keep your browsing habits anonymous, nor will it add additional security to non-secure (HTTP) traffic.
Recommended is to encrypt your data/files always before uploading them to your cloud with tools like Cryptomator.
Always use unique and strong passwords for each of your accounts and DO-NOT-SHARE them. Use open source Password Managers like KeePass or KeePassXC or Bitwarden for Desktop and KeePassDX or Bitwarden for Android to manage your passwords and have them with you safe, encrypted and secure.
enable 2 Step Authentication wherever is available for your accounts. You can use apps like KeePassXC for Dekstop which also support TOTP and Aegis Authenticator in Android.
Do not open or click on links attached in unknown emails or SMS you may get. Always check the address of the email or the number of SMS and verify it's legit from the official source. Especially fake emails from "Banks" which redirect you to fake enviorment to put your password -Keep in mind no Bank will ever ask you anything like that-.
Create and use "burned" email for accounts/sites you have concerns but you definitely want to try them. Do not use your personal or business email. You can also create and use email aliases of your email with services like SimpleLogin which is open source.
Check if your email or your phone number have been breached with services like Have I Been Pwned or Firefox Monitor.

Hey
Thank you very much!
I am thinking to add tags near apps like [Open Source], [Free - Closed Source] and [Paid].
With my calculations around ~70% of the apps, or even more, should be open source tho, rest freewares and only 5% or less should be paid but even the paid I've included, they have free trials. Mostly some video/image editors and some recovery utilities. I try to avoid paid apps, however some are very good and useful.
I will add the tags for sure, just need to find some free time to check each app.
Added to todo list

I don't think you really need an app to do that. You can easily do this via windows. Check here.

I already knew the information from that link, thank you anyway. What I mean is to change an icon that comes by default in an application, specifically an application installed from the Microsoft Store or a system application such as the camera. That link you shared with me only works for desktop shortcuts.

If someone finds a mistake or something that needs correction, please let me know.
@Retrial, awesome post!
I'd like to suggest a couple of Freewares/Open Sources:
Stremio as a free client to watch movies and series that integrates streaming apps and also torrent from different sources through addons (Twitch, torrent catalogues, anime, Pluto TV, even radio).
MediaMonkey as the (personally) best music player ever (because is the only one that can properly organize them by folders, it has thumbnails, and tab navigation, and I can even stream audio to Chromecast).
Oh, I forgot Aquile Reader, which is the most similar ePub reader to the one that had Microsoft Edge. Also is way more stable than Koodo.

Only saw one thread on ps3? Server. How are people serving content to their nook? Any good apps that also support ebooks/pdfs, streaming video?
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA App
It's early days for the android version of PLEX, which has been out for iOS things for a while .. it should do the job but documentation is very thin for android right now ...
The nice thing about ebooks is you don't really need to stream them because of the files size. I just use Opera Unite to access my home file server with all my ebooks.
unite.opera.com/overview/
For music, im currently using subsonic which seems to be working pretty good, but I probably wont end up purchasing the license.
UPnPlay + Rockplayer in NC and PS3 media server in desktop - combo works great for music and video streaming. I haven't tried ebooks yet.
While e books don't really need "serving" due to size I for instance have the entire Project Gutenberg library and sorting though it to see what I want to read on the NC can be a hassle. To that end I use calibre server installed on my hp475 Home Server to push out any book and the stock WHS for any song/movie/image/sw/apk/etc. via browser on WAN and es file manager or mount mgr/CIFS on home LAN. If you don't have a home server then calibre will run from any workstation and you can use ddns for WAN access.
Like aklyz, I use Calibre. Handles my entire library, allows me to find cover art easily and can be set up as a catalog in Aldiko.
It can do a lot more than that, but it only does ebooks.
check out AudioGalaxy for music.
i just got it yesterday and it is AWESOME, if you are trying to stream your music from your computer. used it on my droid eris at the gym today. all my music (30+ gb) no space required on droid. and its FREE!!!
I set up VLC convert and stream last night and it works great for music/video. Nice thing is that it will transcode all of your video to h.264 so that it works on the Nook, no need to convert the video. Most other servers need you to convert the video to an NC compatible format. It worked with every video I tried: mpg, avi, wmv. It also allows you to use the Nook as a remote for your computer, which is pretty sweet. The free version will transcode up to 480 width - pro version allows 640 width and picture support as well. I may end up purchasing it as it's nice not to have to copy anything to the NC. If I can get it to support recorded TV shows from media center, it'll be perfect (I think it will, just need to change the extension).

Yeah Cailbre is awesome. I like how it auto finds covers if you put in the ISBN
eBook server access
Hi,
Calibre (open source) (http: // calibre - ebook . com) is great for organizing
the eBooks on PC end, getting covers, reviews, tagging them etc.
You can download and manage eBooks on the device mounted as a drive
directly from Calibre, or upload them to Dropbox for later download on the device.
There is also a paid app on the Android end "Calibre Library" that works with
Calibre to pull books to the Android device. Still under development, but very
usable. It can search library, sort by author, title etc.

Hi,
Calibre (open source) (http: // calibre - ebook . com) is great for organizing
the eBooks on PC end, getting covers, reviews, tagging them etc.
You can download and manage eBooks on the device mounted as a drive
directly from Calibre, or upload them to Dropbox for later download on the device.

Hello everyone,
I need some help with an issue I have while using Android on my Xperia U (Rooted, CM 9.1). I have a very big music collection on two different Windows 7 computers, consisted of mp3, mpc, flac, ape, alac files - in many cases with a CUE sheet (flac/ape + cue). Structure is always Artist/Album/(CDXX)/Files. I have a high-res folder.jpg within every separate folder. Using Foobar2000 to play everything while on the PC.
I am looking for a way to play my music on Android. At the moment, I am using ES File Explorer to connect to the LAN share, and then play the music with the integrated ES player. But - no album art, no cue sheet support etc. I also use BubbleUPnP to stream video/audio from Universal Media Server installed on both computers. But I would like to use plain network sharing if possible, not DLNA.
I see that PowerAMP for example has all the file support I need, but I am not sure if it can read network shares. Is this possible? I also installed andLess as a player with lossless and cue support, but only for local files.
I am opened to any solution that will allow me to play my music with the format support same or similar to what Foobar2000 offers on Windows.
Please provide your insights/solutions to this problem.
Thank you and all best.
There are several Applications on the Desktop which can make use of "Dynamic Playlists". These List's are mostly generated by dynamic Content like "Last Played Time not older than x days" or "Playcount smaller 5" and so on. I have found such Lists in Desktop Applications like Windows Media Player, Winamp, iTunes MusicBee and more. Now i wonder if there is a Android App which syncs such Lists, so that, when i play a Song on Android, for Instance the "Playcount" is changed and this change should be synced back to the Desktop Application, so that the Dynamic Playlist could changes also automatically.
Does such a App exists on Android?
Hey,
I'm looking for an easy to use, powerful upnp player and control point.
What I need are the following features:
* streaming music and pictures from minidlna UPNP Server to local player or other remote devices, like stand alone UPNP player or smart TV.
* controlling the volume of the remote player
* easy to use (simple Interface), especially for kids, which means:
** fast, easy access (without walking trough a lot of sub-menues ) to most important functions, like access to music, selecting target device, playing-control buttons and volume control
** adding music-folders to android app-launcher screen, to open an music folder in the same way like tapping to an app-icon. (which seams currently only supported by LocalCast Player)
I tried a lot of UPnP apps, but did not found an app, which fits all the three points.
I uses UPnPlayer a couple of years, which is not available on google playstore anymore (is there a reason why)? This player was eays and simple, but not easy to use enough, especially for kids.
Most UPNP control-points integrates the infrastructure into the media-control interface, which means: if the user like to choose an sound-file, he has to navigate through the following:
"media libraries" -> UPNP Server -> Music-> Folders -> [waht i looking for]
This is often confusing for the user.
The app should be run on current Samsung devices, LineageOS and fire tablet.
I would be happy to receive suitable suggestions.
by the way: is there an app to control multiple UPNP Renerder/Player?
B.
Smart devices and technology are getting more powerful all the time, and one of the upsides of this is that we have more choice when it comes to listening to music. If you want to experience the texture of a song, you can play it in extra high quality and appreciate every note. Or, if you can't get enough of a track, you can repeat it with a single click. More and more audio apps provide users with high-quality music experiences anytime and anywhere. And now, thanks to HUAWEI Audio Kit, developing these apps has never been easier.
HUAWEI Audio Kit provides you with audio playback capabilities based on the HMS ecosystem. It includes audio encoding and decoding capabilities on both the hardware level and system bottom layer. With this kit, you can quickly build your own audio playback capabilities and audio apps.
Quick and easy music services
Audio Kit has several advantages over its competition: it supports multiple formats, enables playback resumption and accelerated startup, and provides copyright protection.
Firstly, Audio Kit plays a wide range of audio formats, including M4A, AAC, AMR, IMY, WAV, OGG, RTTTL, and MP3, and also provides all the usual playback controls, including play, pause, previous or next, stop, and progress bar dragging. What's more, it decodes and plays high-resolution audio files of up to 384 kHz/24 bit.
Audio Kit can cache playback progress, and use that cached audio to accelerate the time it takes to initiate playback. You can also give users the ability to record their playback progress and resume from where they left off last time.
To enhance copyright protection, Audio Kit provides encryption services for cached audio files, so you can quickly build secure and professional audio capabilities.
With Audio Kit, you can give users the ability to mix things up with options to play their playlists in order, repeat the list, repeat the current song, or shuffle play. The kit also has a playlist management function which enables your app to read content from lists, so your users can easily add, delete, and save content from lists.
Streamlined app development
Audio Kit provides you with a unified system architecture and UI, which makes it easy to integrate. We have also simplified the installation package, so it doesn't take up too much storage space.
Audio Kit can be used for all sorts of apps, including those for education, fitness and health, gaming, ringtones, and local playback. When you integrate HUAWEI Audio Kit, you'll be able to provide users with excellent audio experiences, wherever they are.
For more information about HUAWEI Audio Kit, visit the HUAWEI Developers official website. Alternatively, you can visit our Customer Service page to submit a ticket, or if you need technical assistance, email [email protected]. We hope you enjoy using Audio Kit!
