What to buy next to replace my old Z2 Play? - Moto Z2 Play Guides, News, & Discussion

Is there any decent Motos out there worth buying for the next few years like my ole trusty Z2? It is still working fine and I love having a rooted phone, but all things have to be replaced at some point.

I bent mine a couple of weeks ago and upgraded to a Z4 and that's doing pretty well so far. Not sure it can be unlocked and rooted at the moment, have only had it for a week

I just bought a nice Moto G Power 2020 and rooted it.

How many people actually had the g1?

How many people had the g1, and what's been your story since? I remember getting a hold of cupcake a little early and being amazed by the onscreen keyboard. Eventually, after a brick and repair, I went to the mytouch slide (after about a year and a half, maybe 2? with the g1.) The hardware seemed super quick at the time. However, rooting it was a pain in the Ass and as a result, development was dead! After like a year with cm7/sense I found a vibrant for 160$ on craigslist and I've been loving it since. I might think about getting the g2x, but as of right now I'm happy with bi-winning.

I was a G1 owner. It was great in it's day, but always felt like HTC underestimated the power needed to run Android. Biggest hassle was that the keyboard backlights on the Bronze model actually made it hard to read the text on the keys during the daylight. "Upgraded" to a MyTouch 3g, which wasn't any kind of upgrade at all. Then got the Vibrant, and haven't looked back.
I had a G1 early on and at the time the market was non-existent and apps were sparse. I liked the concept of it but the phone was unevenly weighted and the keyboard flipping out always felt like it was going to break. It wouldn't connect to Exchange so I sold it. I got a My Touch 3G Fender and eventually the Vibrant.
I totally agree @lotherius about the power and the keyboard. Fortunately, the sales rep pointed out that the bronze phone keyboard was almost impossible to see at times and we bought the other one. The MT3G wasn't a powerhouse either. It ran Cyanogen ok but the stock OS was lagging.
I had one about two months after they were released (played around with my mom's the first couple months of release then got mine). I used that until August 2010 and got a vibrant. I didn't root my g1 until after I got my vibrant cause I was scared of bricking, just ran official updates up to 1.6, once I rooted that I checked into rooting the vibrant and when I realized how much easier it was I did that and have been side. My wife took over my g1 and I took it back to stock for her. About a week ago I got her a MT3G slide, and she's loving that one now. I'm still using my vibrant and might even continue to until my contract is up next August. I even have my g1 back and get to play with it again.
I rocked the G1. Pained me to sell it.
Obviously, my nick name says that I am a G1 owner.
I had the G1 as a valentine gift on Feb 14th, 2009. My ex gave it to me before she left the US to go back to her hometown in Melbourne, Australia (heart break/sad). I used it and loved it until the Nexus one came out on Jan 05, 2010. I got the Nexus one for $500 without contract and used it for several month until the Vibrant came out on July 15, 2010. I sold my G1 on for $200 and the Nexus one for $500 on craigslist. I then enter a 2-year contract with T-mobile and got the Vibrant for $150 on wirefly.com. Since then, I have also tried the Nexus S and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" without contract, but re-sale them after a few months.
I liked the G1 a lot, but it was so primitive at that time. I did root and unlock it to use CM ROM. When the Nexus One came out with many improvements, I move up without hesitance. For the Vibrant, like many of you, I hate it for the GPS did not work well, and the issue of updating to Gingerbread. However, I am so please with what I have right now. It's a good phone, though. I think you must know how to use the best out of it, for your own good. A smart phone in a dumb hand is still a dump phone. I am planning to move up to the SGS II next month when I save enough money to buy it without contract. Just share some thought
I got one like 3 months after it was released for Christmas.
It was my second phone following the BB Pearl. It was amazing! The new OS astounded me, everything was amazing!
As soon as a Hero Port was released I flashed and was almost crying LOL.
Then CM3 was released and that was awesome as it was really fast!

I didn't have it, but I had something horrible the Motorola Cliq...then got the Mytouch Slide and go bumped up to the Vibrant. I'm in love with the phone. I really want a new phone like the Nexus One or something.

[Q] when do you think..

The z2 will be discontinued/no longer offered?
I have 2 (first one got a cracked screen, which sony will be replacing and i will be selling it).
The second one ive had no issues with but i have a carrier insurance (150 deductible) that allows me to get it replaced if its broken, stolen, etc..
My buddy used his warranty on his z1 shortly after z2 came out and they gave him the z2 in replacement.
Imo for 150 it seems like a good upgrade? Think theyll stop selling z2 soon?
18 months after release unless the device shows popularity then 24 months
Its been 6/7 months from release

Are you planning to get your phone stollen at some point? Don't let your insurance company know about it... just joking.
I don't believe Z2 will be discontunued soon, as I've just read that Sony is gonna change their six month flagship ship launch, starting with the z4 probably during Q1 of 2015...

LG G6 US997 at Amazon for $499

This was one of the lightning sales for $449. It's now $499 which is still pretty good, but it ships in 2 to 4 weeks.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XYRS7CT/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
It's selling on eBay for $400
That would be the H780DS from never-msrp, not the US997 US which is unlocked, and can be rooted.
Well I got my phone today from Amazon, and they sent me the Tmobile version. I'm sending it back but there is a two to four week delay for the replacement. I hope they send me the right one this time.

I had the same issue except I decided to keep it anyways since I was in dire need of a replacement phone and wasn't willing to wait.. As far as the review on the vendor... I have nothing nice to say and my review will show that once I post it. The listing was clearly for the US997 and that's not what the T-Mobile variant is. If the T-Mobile version get's root one day than wonderful but otherwise the phone runs great after a couple of settings/app changes. Hoping this years Pixel XL rumors are correct so I can jump on that later in the year and keep the G6 as a backup.

I needed a replacement a couple of months ago so I grabbed a Moto G4 Plus while waiting for the Oneplus 5. And then it comes out with the jelly effect. I'm also looking at the Moto Z2 Force, so if that looks good I might cancel my order for the G6.
The seller for mine was actually Amazon so it seems it wasn't just other sellers screwing up.

Realize I miss the V10

I was traveling in Europe earlier this month and saw 3 different V10's and realized I miss the phone. It had its quirks but if it was still working I'd still be happily using it.
$40 v10s are getting easier to find via ebay
Lol. I am wayyyyyy too paranoid to buy a phone from an unknown source.

VZ version 450 off.

It's bootloader locked but a pretty smoking deal at Best Buy.

I ordered from bestbuy using this offer a few days ago. My new Pixel 3 128gb in Clearly White will be here tomorrow! It is funny, my OG Pixel XL is just over 2 years old and I unlocked it via the workaround they found early on. Been unlocked all this time but never really flashed roms or modded it. Still bummed about the Pixel 3 vzw unlock status. Oh well. Already ordered the Bear Motion case for it. Been using it on my Pixel XL for over a year and will work for now. Was hoping for a little better protection but it is a good cheap quick fix.
I need to be able to install Viper4Android since I use my phone as my primary audio in my car. Also need it for tethering option. Not paying a carrier to use a feature of my phone .
