Hello everybody,
Since a few weeks, i had 'only' 1.6gb of internal storage free, my nexus 10 was slower then before, it took around 5 seconds before the screen turned on and the launcher was regularly stuttering. Now, i have cleared the cache, site data and cookies ( chrome app > settings > advanced > privacy > clear browsing data) that was about 500mb. After that all the problems were gone. Has anyone else experienced this ? Let me know if freeing up space fixed the problem.
Greetings,
Inse

I find that very strange, considering that the Nexus 10 has some of the highest-scoring I/O benchmarks around. This kind of issue is obviously I/O related (at least, it seems so). I don't get mine until Monday so I'm not entirely sure, but that shouldn't be happening. I've heard reports of this on the Nexus 7, obviously due to the sub-standard I/O, but not on the Nexus 10.
Could you try doing some I/O benchmarks with AnTuTu or similar app in your N10's current state, and then again with lower storage? That might help diagnose the issue.
I heard of this being an issue on the Nexus 7 on 4.2, but it was fixed I think on 4.2.1 or 4.2.2, haven't heard anything on the N10 though.
Thanks for the replies, do you guys think i should send my nexus 10 back ? I have several other issues as well:
-overheating
-very unstable (freezes a few times a day)
-strange 'sssssrrrt' sound from the right side of the rear camera, i think that it is the processor. (That place becomes hot while playing games. When i say hot i mean very hot, my finger almost hurts when i touch that place)

Before sending it back, as written in the previous post, are you using Android v4.2.2? That android version dealt with a number of issues that plagued the N10. If you are on that release and still have the described issues then send it back. My own N10 is on v4.2.2 and does not have any of those problems.
With the symptoms you mention I would definitely exchange it.
Ok, thanks guys. I have android 4.2.2. But, will google reinstall all my apps with data on my new n10 ?

Chrome tab keep refreshing. Seems like lollipop is keeping much lesser process in memory. It is kind of frustrating as half way through writing this post, i switched to do something else, when i switch back, everything gone. Anyone encounter this?
Yeah, even on the Tab S 10.5 with 3GB of RAM, it does the same.
Overly aggressive memory management is to blame.
Google tries to optimize chrome for devices with as little as 512MB of RAM. Unfortunately, we are the ones who pay the price.

This has been happening for a while, so now I use a different browser. Very impressed with lightning browser! Very fast!

Hmmm, but chrome on my Sony z2 or older nexus device like both the 7 seems to be OK. Feel more lollipop issue rather den chrome cos when press Home screen button sometime will also refresh the wallpaper.
I'm seeing the same issue. My N7 on KK doesn't do what you're describing. I haven't noticed, yet, if my N5 on L also refreshes. It sucks, too, because if was reading an article from one page in a different tab, the original page will reload and start back at the top.
I've been experiencing the same thing with chrome beta viewing ingress website then ingress app.

Killing Me!!!!!
Because of thd work I do online, this one bug/feature is making my Nexus 9 unusable for me.. And since I already gave away my Nexus 7, that puts me in quite a pickle. I thought I was OK, but I didn't count on something so silly popping up.
I really hope Google doesn't ignore this like they do with most bugs that they consider features. This us pretty bad abd would have been reason enough for me not to get the Nexus 9... at least not yet.
Try chrome beta. It doesnt refresh on my n5 or n9.
Unfortunately this is a problem that I doubt will be fixed, IMO this device needs 3 gigs of ram, as android in general is using quite a bit more ram on the 9 than the 5 and 7, plus you permanently lose another 128mb for nvidias code optimization for CPU. 64 bit CPUs can address more ram but 64 bit apps and OS's consume more ram. The n9 is almost always in a low or critical memory state, check yourself in developer options / process stats. The 5 and 7 spend minutes or seconds in critical state over a 24 hour period, the 9 spends hours in this state. There is a reason google used swap on the device- no other nexus device uses. The nexus 6 doesnt- but they gave it 3 gigs, and its not even 64 bit. With just a few things open chrome can't even handle 2 tabs. Its really kinda sad, it almost breaks this device for me- it ruins what I use the device for.

Maybe I'm wrong and there is HUGE memory leaks in lollipop, but its only showing up on the 9. I doubt it though.
Has anybody else experienced or is experiencing rather poor ram management on their S6e?
I'm finding app refreshes really quite abundant. Yes they refresh quickly in most cases but they are refreshes nether the less.
Worst are apps that dump you out of what you are doing like Tapatalk.
System manager tells me I gave 400mb free and yet app refreshes are a common occurrence.
My nexus 6 rarely has to auto refresh - indeed conversely I can open Tapatalk on that and have to manually refresh to get content. But at least I never get dumped out of a thread and taken back to menu.
The Galaxy S5 was poor enough with memory management, I hoped the 3gb in the S6e would put an end to forced reloads & refreshes but nope.
I have a sim free factory unlocked model, no carrier bloat and have factory restored and still same issue persists.
Its as if Touchwiz despite certain improvements is as memory hungry and uncouth as it ever was.
I know how you feel. RAM is always almost full even if there are no apps running. I can multitask without refreshes if I go to an app for a few seconds. But if I spend like even just a minute then I get a refresh. Even with just one tab on Google Chrome, I get a refresh immediately by just using Facebook for a while. I mean wtf?
I believe it's due to the memory leak on 5.0.1 wait till we get 5.1 to see if they fix this issue

No memory leak is only on nexus devices and related to its particular bootloader - something Samsung device doesn't have. It won't improve if it's not good now.

Yep exactly as you describe and it's really quite annoying. Feels like the phone is being gimped by its OS Skin. We shouldn't be having this issue on a 2015 3gb top of range device.

Ah I didn't know that. Thanks for correcting me. I also have this issue as well and hoping this issue is fixed soon from Samsung.
I have this issue too.. Anoys the heck out of me;.. I can pause pandora, and then open another app, and pandora lost its place!
happens a lot more then it should.

Yep. How come all the so called in depth reviews never mentioned this issue. To me aggressive memory killing and excessive ram usage is far more detrimental to user experience than the odd bit of lag, yet the only thing we kept getting told is how lag free this device would be and how super fast the ram is.... And yet it can barely keep 4 apps in memory for 5 minutes. Its really frustrating.

ikr.. they didnt mention this ram thing at all. are they even used this phone at all to post those reviews?!? I was using an iPhone 6 Plus before, and I never had this issue at all. I hope they can fix this as soon as possible.
I don't think the reviers use it really all that much. I don't think they load a lot of apps like most us users.. Idk it is sad. I also think Pandora for example is weird. Once you hit pause the icon disappears on top. So it's free to get killed. When songza for example, just pauses and keeps an icon on top. I'll almost chalk that up to bad programming. But fb, chrome and whatever, yea.. Sucky
It's really irritating. My 6 plus with 1gb of ram is better than this. What I don't get is you can have 400mb plus of ram available and stuff starts closing. Makes no sense.
I had this issue with my nexus too, and my s5 with lollypop.. I wonder if there is a settinf

Yep... I have less refreshes with my 6+ too.
The 400mb free ram available thing irks me too - if it's free why isn't it being used ? And what the heck is using up the 2.4gb before it ? Even when I tell it to close all my apps the most I have free is around 700mb which soon drops back to the 400-480mb mark. It's crazy how memory hungry and inefficient it's being.
holy crap! finally!
I've been searching for a thread like this for a week. Just got my phone a few days ago and man the ram management is piss poor. My HTC M7 doesn't have this issue. And yes I've wondered why no review site has mentioned this at all. I mostly noticed it on Chrome.. or even the stock browser. But yes it does this auto refresh crap on other apps as well. I don't know about you guys but I have the AT&The variant non edge and I have 5.0.2.

Yeah I have a stock UK/Ireland factory unbranded handset, so its not carrier app fault either unfortunately.
The M7 & M8 are both excellent indeed - with near stock android levels of memory management, which only goes to prove an android skin doesn't have to suck the life out of a device, which is exactly what Touchwiz feels like its doing.
The S5 wasn't great memory management wise, the Note 4 was good but no where near as good as the Note 3 memory wise and sadly the S6e seems very poor especially when you consider it has 3gb. So it seems to me since the Note 3 Samsung's flagships have been getting worse ram management wise rather than better.
I have a €950 flagship phone which handles memory about as good as a Moto G with 1gb.

so you're telling me that the S5 for a year now still has crappy ram management??? that's just crazy and boggles my mind. i seriously don't want to keep this phone for 2 years of this nonsense (i get a new phone every 2 years). if that's the case i might just return this phone. as good as it is, that's almost a deal breaker to me. i always multitask switching from web page to messenger, to camera, sports apps etc.. etc.. then back to web page just to see it auto refresh every time! if i'm just bouncing back and forth between a couple apps within a min or so it doesn't seem to do this but after about 5 mins.. it never fails.. auto refresh is a certain. so sad. i don't want to go back to apple, but right now, i might have to return this phone and wait for iPhone 6S.
what also baffles me is that i don't seem to see much people talking about this issue considering this is a flagship phone and millions have already been sold worldwide.

I think because the phone is otherwise very very fast some folks may not be noticing the refreshes. Its certainly more noticeable on apps that drop you out of what you were doing back to a previous menu screen like Tapatalk.
I think people genuinely want to believe the
Hype that the S6 & S6e are the nirvana of android...
I must admit I too am shocked folks aren't complaining more or are giving the device an easy pass on this issue, but for me its a total PITA.
I will keep the S6e until the next update and hope that has some memory tweaks, but if it doesn't I'll consider just selling it on.
I tiped phonearena about this issu and they announced it today so maybe this will open some eyes in Samsung dep.

So far, ive had issues of battery drain with bundled apps such as the AMAZON app store, as most of us here are already aware. I wonder if this ram issue has to do with the same preloaded apps causing issues? What about people who rooted and reinstalled all Play-Store-Reinstallable apps, through the Play store, has that cleared this issue? Maybe the misbehaving apps are taking their system-level privilege a little too far?
Glad some review sites are taking an eye on this. It's actually really annoying. Even my music app constantly shuts off and I have to force it to cause a wake lock for it not to shut off (poweramp has this option)

I saw that the M4 had lots of over heating issues with that new snapdragon processor.
I also saw that sony released a patch to solve that problem.
I was just wondering if it worked or if it is still too hot?
^Thats the main Question
I am interested in this phone becasue it is supposed to have great battery life but I assume if it generating so much heat the battery life isnt that great. Opinions?
I would not recommend the device, at least not the 8GB version. The tiny storage space i crippling at best... I can't even update apps because it thinks app data on the SD card is on the internal memory! As soon as the new nexus comes out I'm switching and throwing sony in the trash.

I thought Sony would have released only a fix for the Z4 (Z3+ in EU) considering the S810 heat "problem" (disaster).
Actually, even the S615 becomes really warm too, but I do not believe that they will update even the medium range.......
I can't find anything on Sony's website about a patch. Do you have a link please?
I personally do not find overheating to be a problem. Yes the device gets relatively warm under heavy usage. Some may say that it is even hot but i don't find it too hot maybe because i come from another hot device - xperia s. I want to clarify that this happens only under very heavy usage like synthetic 3d benchmarks, heavy games or heavy navigation programs. For multimedia there is absolutely no problem.

It was the carrier store sales person who said a patch was being released but didnt know its effectiveness. I also cant find any reference to it online upon looking so maybe he was crazy.
They only sell the 16gb version but the people at the store were also saying that they have had lots of returns for overheating issues. Talking to you guys there seems to be no overheating. :S
He was recommending a different phone at the same price so it wasnt for upsale
I bought the 16gb E2306 version about 1 week ago and till now i did not have any issue with the heat
aamm just when i use the camera for long time or chrome about 30-45 minutes
but with normal use or when i play games like real racing 3 or modern combat 5 doesn't heat up a lot just the normal
My m4 dual over heats and drains the battery very fast. Using just chrome and whatsapp over wifi, battery lasts only maybe 5 hours. With brightness on lowest. And the top back of the phone gets hot.
Also GPS is always on. I have to disable it to stop it. And the screen brightness adaption doesn't work properly. Seems to want to be always bright.
It seems processor is just doing stuff for no reason making heat and draining battery.
I've used z3c and z3c tablet. Both these last 2 days with similar moderate usage.
I got model E2312 firmware 26.1.B.1..85 bought in Malaysia.

My Xperia M4 overheats within 30 seconds of me turning the Bluetooth on. When I say overheats I mean the front and back become too hot to touch and it takes a long time to cool back down. I've had the phone for around 6 months and the problem only recently occurred is there anything I can do?
Get the Opera browser and set the image quality to low. You will note a serious drop in temperatures. Ditch the Chrome browser.
Fixing Heating issues tips
Following may help you to reduce heat level of your m4 aqua:
Disable unwanted Functions/features like Bluetooth & Location Settings.
Use of 4G and 3G Data for long time.
Many running apps simultaneously.
Non-genuine battery.

Ok, so over the years I've had lots of Android phones but the one thing that has got on my nerves has been the poor multi-tasking! What I've always been looking for has a machine where the apps stay in memory for a long time. The worst was my S3, basically if you switched an app and returned it would reload. Even the LG G4 with lots of memory will reload an app after the 8th one has been in memory. At the moment the best is the OnePlus 2, but the more apps you load the more sluggish becomes. But the question is the Honor 7 better??
The way the stock rom is coded (EMui) pauses apps that stay in background a long period of time (or on screen off). Personally I do not mind it at it keeps the phone responsive in all situations and background apps are resumed quickly.
