Question Xiaomi Redmi Note10S fingerprint sensor no longer detected - Redmi Note 10

For some reason my phone no longer shows the option to lock/unlock with the fingerprint I`m using stock Mi Ui global 13.0.10. What can be happening? I've tried to factory reset with no luck. I use no custom rooms except from nova launcher.

This may be not accuracy, anyway. I had this device last year (not actually), and surprisingly, in some builds, this option is, simply, missing. But, if it, at some time, have showed, and the feature disappeared, then may be due to other reason.

You say , "it did work", but, It's not clear now, if the option to set a fingerprint is there or not. In this case, the most proper would be to say, "it was there before and now, it's no longer there"

In case the feature is missed, as it seems the main focus on the thread, try with an app like this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.szalkowski.activitylauncher&hl=es_PY&gl=US to see if it helps. But consider that, as I said you previously, the option, in some builds, is not present, to choose from.
Open the app, and tap on the first Settings option:
Then tap on:
Set the lock screen:
And this will allows you to enroll the fingerprint.

Super thanks for the explanations. Upon the moment I select the finger print service it asks my pin but closes the prompt before I type it. Then I look on lock screen options and it is not there.

Ok, then if I'm not wrong, even when you set a locking method first, then it doesn't ask for your fingerprint to roll up, as a second method to strong lock protection?
Activity launcher, not launching the FP, it's probably due to some restrictions from Xiaomi, not all the permissions can be granted by the user normally, it, usually, throws, a "java lang exception" error.
If the issue persists, I would recommend changing the firmware, probably there is a newer one.

Well, an update has to fix it, as I guess, you can downgrade, if you don't have the bootloader unlocked.

Can't push "install" soft-key buttons to install app

This happens occasionally with Amazon apps, when I try to install an update. It's also just happened again when I bought the Humble Bundle of apps, and it won't install when I try to push the install button once I open the .apk. Anyone know a work-around or have experienced this as well?
I will restart and post my findings.
For those who don't know what the Humble Bundle is, it's a bundle of four, great games, that YOU choose the price for. Read this article to learn a little more about it: Pay what you want for this Android Bundle
I couldn't install after reboot either...

Turn off screen filter.. it blocks the install button for some reason.
This is not a glitch with phone or whatever.. its the screen filter app..disable it and hit install and it will work

It's an app that just makes the screen more dim than even Android can. You can set a default dimming level too.
That's is a stupid, stupid bug too, but at least I know why and it's now documented here. Thanks all.
Has anyone had this problem more recently?
I've been experiencing it on CM 10.1 ROMs, and only a complete wipe and reflash seems to fix the problem.
It would seem that SOMEWHERE, I need to wipe some kind of data out, but I don't know what. I'm having this exact situation right this second. Can't hit 'next' or can't hit 'install'.
4/11+ CM 10.1.
I don't see that 'Screen Filter' application. Nothing in apps called that. Does it have a different name?
Thank You

Any persistant overlay may prevent usage of the "install" or "next" button when installing an app from the SD card, whether it's screen filter or HALO. Chat heads, Ninja SMS, floating battery stats, etc are all possible culprits.
This is a safety built into android to prevent an app from popping up an overlay over the required permissions list and showing a "safe" list of required permissions on top of the real list of persmissions that allow it to read your texts, pick your wallet, and root around in your underwear drawer.

My Saviours!
I would just like to give a hearty THANK YOU for this thread.
I have been bashing my head against the desk trying to figure out WHY the hell I could not press the install button.
I have Twilight installed that dims your screen based on time of day. I followed the directions of turning it off, and look at that, it worked.
So what have I learned today?
There is ALWAYS an asnwer for something to not work as normal. It is a matter of asking the right question to find that answer.

[APP][ALPHA][MATERIAL][Oct27] SmartLockScreen for Android

[size=+3]SmartLockScreen for Android - Bringing Lollipop smartness to JB and above![/size]
Code:
Disclaimer:
This app is in alpha stage. Though safe for daily use (none of the testers have got locked out of their phones),
rooted phone is recommended for testing, so that system password can be reset via adb.
If the previous sentence scares you, do read on, and if you find it interesting,
follow this thread and try out the app when it reaches Beta stage
(It'll not take much time).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[size=+1]Looking for alpha testers. Feedback will be much appreciated![/size]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[size=+2]Introduction[/size]
Make your phone lock smarter! Automatically change and remove passwords based on your current 'Environment'.
Convert Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth Devices or Location areas into trust agents, and let them do the phone unlocking for you!
That is just 1 method of using the app. Possibilities are endless!
Also brings Lollipop style lockscreen notifications.
[size=+2]Features[/size]
Define environments - Each environment can be a combination of any of Bluetooth devices, Wi-Fi network and Location.
Set passphrase for each environment. The app detects environment changes and changes the passphrase automatically in the background.
How is this useful? Consider this: Say you define environment home, which says Home is when the phone is connected to Home Wi-Fi (you can use location also, or both together). For environment home, set password as none. And for unknown environment, you can set, say, a pattern lock. So whenever you are at home, you can unlock the phone easily, but when outside, it'll set a lock and prevent unauthorized usage by others.
Another scenario is adding an environment which checks for your bluetooth headset. Phone is automatically secured when you move away, and unlocks automatically when you come back to it.
These are just indicative. Possibilities are endless!
Notifications in lock screen - Lollipop style! It's not totally there yet, it's an ongoing work. Swipe up/down to unlock, left for camera, right for dialer.
Intelligent environment overlap resolution. But you always have the option to override it manually.
Material Design, and smooth animations. (See screenshots below)
More features are coming soon! See Features to be implemented section

Great app but unfortunately I only use fingerprint lockscreen on my N4. Waiting for an update with support of fingerprint lockscreen!
EDIT: It seems like I can't uninstall this app. Not even force close it, since there's no exit option in the app itself. What is that all about?

I suppose with a finger print lock, this app is not really required. However, I've never actually tried the finger print unlock. If it takes a bit of time to unlock, or is inconsistent sometimes, I'd definitely try and include finger print unlock once the app reaches a stable state.

[Q] Screen lock timeout and force lock with button

I would like to know if there is a way to force user authentication (password, or fingerprint, etc) by pressing a button.
What i mean is that on a blackberry you can press the 'K' key to lock the screen and force the user to have to put in the password to unlock the phone. With Android it seems like the only option is to set it to lock immediately b/c if it is set to anything other than that, hitting the power button will just turn off the screen but not Lock it until that setting reaches the time you set for the lock to occur.
I assume it is not built in and i will need to download an app.
Thanks
Uhh.. Set it to lock immediately?

That is not what I'm asking! I would like the ability to keep the screen off without it locking right away but have the ability to lock with the power button. There are apps out there but it does not appear there is an option to do this natively.
Oh... But why, I'm curious.
Very simple, i don't want to have to keep scanning my fingerprint when my phone is being charged on wireless charger after the screen times out. It is very convenient to lock the phone with a simple press of a button like blackberry. If you treat it like a business phone you will understand, but I'm coming from a blackberry so it is a very useful feature for me.

That is not the issue. Plus why would I want the screen on all the time. The problem is that the feature exists. However for what ever reason ATT disabled the option and lumped it together with turn off screen immediately. If i can figure out which CSC will turn this on it would be great but I don't know if it is a CSC option

I gave you a solution based on what you said you wanted: " i don't want to have to keep scanning my fingerprint when my phone is being charged on wireless charger after the screen times out."
Im sorry if its not exactly what you were looking for, but it IS a solution.
I think the two things you want are mutually exclusive. The only way to have what you need is use smart unlock. Otherwise, the phone either locks or it doesn't.

I never stated I want the screen on all the time. I simply want the option to lock at will using the power button. I appreciate the suggestion but it is not what I asked for and I'm familiar with the development options.
Still would be nice if there is a way to turn this on via a CSC option. still digging

Not exactly, this feature exists, however it is disabled on ATT phones. Looking for a way to enable this via CSC but it may not be possible.

Google Backup: "Confirm your old screen lock" (pin), but old screen lock was not pin

Google Backup: "Confirm your old screen lock" (pin), but old screen lock was not pin
Hello there. So, I've factory reset my LG-US998 phone. And after the reset I want to restore my data using Google Cloud Backup I created before the reset.
But trouble arrived when the backup is asking for my old screen lock. It asking for pin (number) screen lock, which is weird because my old screen lock was definitely not pin. My old screen lock was Knock Code.
I tried multiple attempts but of course it fail. So now I can't restore my data from the backup.
Anyone ever experiencing this kind of issue? Is there any solution for this?

I believe all lock setup require a backup of a pin-code. I don't know about knock-code, but I expect it's likely the same. In the end, they do this to let you back into the phone in case the knocking/whatever doesn't work. For example, I use fingerprint and that requires me to have a PIN as well.
That's the pin they're probably asking for... simply because you can't knock on the new phone until it's setup there (it's device dependent). So, you likely had a pin code, and you just have to remember it.

No, I don't think Knock Code require pin for backup. I use fingerprint too, and the backup method was the Knock Code itself.

My suspicion is knockcode is actually a PIN, each square represents a number as in a 4 number numberpads, but the content is hidden.
I'm having the same problem with my LG G8.
I tried entering my knock code as a PIN, but no luck. I'm running out of attempts now.
I had this problem and was searching for a solution. This question is old, but I hope my answer can help someone. I solved this by going to Settings->Security->Screen Lock on the *old* phone. I was prompted to enter the old PIN, which I did. Then on the *new* phone I entered the same pin and the update proceeded as normal. Note: I did not change the PIN on the old phone, just re-entered the existing PIN I have always used.
Had the same problem, until i tried entering the knock code as a pin, using numbers 1-4 in place of my code

In the morning I received update Android 13 No 64.1.A.0.857 on my XQ-CQ54. So far, I can tell that there is no major visual upgrade, but my phone feels snappier and smoother. Screens and fonts are slightly more polished, deeper improvements might be found later with use, if any. Anyway, I'm satisfied with the existing configuration.

I don't think that this phone has a compass at all. When I install the app, it doesn't move if I move the phone, it's always still. But magnetic field value changes, though. Really weird.
I dont know i thought all phones have "compass" because of magnetic field sensor.
Open google maps tap on your location few times and press calibrate tell me if anything happens.
I ve noticed also it doesnt count steps ,tested one app which had that" step sensor"

Now I see. I've changed the compass app and the position is starting to move. But every time I open it, I must calibrate the compass again. It even shows me that the calibration is needed. If I skip it, the compass is totally disoriented.

Yes i too received a week before the same android 13 for my xperia XQ-CQ54 (UK) ..
In android 12 i had two issues
1. system ui stopping msg comes very rare
2. the default wallpaper i set from the sony , will be changed automatically sometimes to another one
and these two issues didnt come back in android 13 as of now and android 13 has no major improvements but what i feel is
1. battery with wifi is good compared to android 12 (i always charge to 80 and i get one day power)
2. super smooth without 120hts
3. bit more improved animations that looks cool.
overall i am fully satisfied
