Question screen not very responsive at the very edges? - Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Not sure if it's just my screen protector, which i have had to replace now a couple of times.
But i am finding when i touch the very edges of the phone, it's not very responsive, the part almost as it curves.
Is anyone else finding that?
Regards
James

Strange, what kind of screen protector do you use?

Download edge touch goodlook module from galaxy store to edit unresponsive area
It is intended by samsung to prevent accidental touch from edges , but edge touch app can decrease or remove the unresponsive area

Give that a try, didn't really make any difference.
Is it normal that the edges aren't very responsive then, or is something up with mine?
I guess i'll have to also take yet another screen protector off to make sure it's not that.

A view on the zagg invisible shield.

This is just a quick post with my comments on the invisible shield, in case it's useful to somebody looking for a screen protector...
Pros:
- Thick, feels very protective. No worries about putting it in a pocket and getting it scratched from keys or change
- Air bubbles really do work themselves out after a few days of use, even on a completely ham fisted install!
- Doesn't affect screen, you can still see it in daylight without rainbow or mirror effect.
Cons
- B****rd to install. Way fiddly because of all the little corner flaps and cut out bits.
- Slightly sticky to the touch means finger glide action isn't what it could be. Also scrolling with a stylus seems much more hit and miss than without the protector
- Not particularly cheap.
I'll be keeping mine - I'm mainly concerned about protection (which it should excel at) and with a little adaption you can get used to the decreased screen sensititvity. I find using the back of the fingernail to scroll actually works better than a finger.
As an aside, the best protector I had in terms of a balance between feel and protection was a generic cut-to-size one from Palm! Unfortunately it only covers the display part of the TP2 front, it's not big enough to cover the whole front.
Hope that helps someone!
Marc.
Hmm, i was thinking just installing the back part for scratch protection and keeping the normal screen protector that comes with it, i find that the protector that comes with it gives it that capacitive feel to it in that the screen doesnt push in as it used to without the protector ... because honestly i dont think the screen feel and senstivity is something i can compromise .. my 2 cents

I forget to inform them not to apply the Raceshield screen protector as it is too thick and it gives a funny and unresponsive feeling when you touch the screen.
I might change the screen protector to Martin Field instead.
does the invisibleshiled protect my device when it´s falling down to the ground?? or will the phone be damaged??

Invisible Shield protect your device from scratches only.
If it falls onto the ground, it'll damage your phone for sure.
Get a pouch or a case if you need that kinda protection.
i have just installed the invisible shield on my touch pro2, not particularly hard, because I have lots of experience installing these.
But if you are a noob, it will be very tricky.
Even if you install it properly, you might still get dust or dirt underneath, and you may not realize it until it has dried up, which is too late.
I got some big bubbles underneath, waiting for it to dry.
I would only recommend the invisible shield for the back part, as for the screen, it is better to stick with a regular screen protector.
Scrolling and figure gestures are not as smooth if you use the invisible shield,
i will post pics up later! cheers.
I put my IS on last night. My impressions:
1. The back fits very nicely.
2. The front doesn't fit quite as well, but you can get it on with enough patience.
3. There are a few small bubbles, I'm still waiting for them to go away.
4. Today the bubbles are still there, and the front has a rather sticky feel to it. I don't like the feel.
5. The back cover sticks very well to the gell pad I use in my car. (bonus!)
6. I don't like the ridges on the sides left by the front cover.
7. If the bubbles don't disappear completely, I will find a replacement for the front cover.
Doesn't the phone come with a proective cover on the back already and a screen protector for the screen? I would have thought that would be enough?

The 'cover' on the back is just part of the back's design.
And the screen protector that comes with the phone, well, not sure about everyone else, but mine peeled off within a few days of it going in and out of my pocket.

The "cover" on the back, which can sorta be seen when you look at the volume rocker doesn't come off, which is why I said it's just part of the design.
You can place any protection you want on it.

Also, not just what it looks like on the physical device, but some good pictures of what the SCREEN looks like with phone on? So many screen protectors distort the screen image (thinking to my mother's ipod touch screen protector that makes the pixels all rainbowy and aliased looking) and I have yet to see ONE picture of what the actual display looks like when the screen is on.

Sorry, I have no photos to offer. I can tell you that the screen does look a bit "rainbowy" when I have polaroid sunglasses on. (When driving) It's enough to be a minor annoyance, no more. Still very easy to see the screen, which is a big plus comin from a Tilt that could not be seen at all in my roadster.
Also, as a general follow-up to my earlier rant-
All the bubbles have worked out, and I've grown accustomed to the sticky face. So I will keep the IS on my TP2. I really likethe idea of the phone being well protected from all the abrasive items that find their way into my pockets.

Screen protector

Does it really help to have a screen protector on STR? My nook is always inside a case, and always have some finger smudges on the screen, which does not interfere with reading the screen content.
Would it make the screen harder to use, such as in a resistive screen? I know it has IR technology, not resistive lcd, but it is good to know...
I have a screen protector, because I have cats and dogs who're lurking around my nook, and I'd hate to see them scratch the screen. I'm not using any case for it. The film does not affect the touch sensitivity in any way...
thanks for the info, emarusceac.
I can see dogs and cats and stuff being a problem. I just have an old NC sleeve laying around that works. If you can stand the wait, ebay is cheap Turns out the NC and NST width is the same...
emarusceac,
what sort of screen protector are you using?
Hi mh127,
I'm using a basic anti-glare screen film from ebay.
The nst is the first touch screen I have not used one on.
It is perfect now, the matte should hide small scratches, it gets used more lightly than phones/tablets, it is light (less damage if dropped), and it is cheap!
I am going to buy one.
I must warn you that it's VERY hard to apply it smoothly. I mean you'll get some air pouches caused by small particles, those bubbles won't go away no matter what you do. I prefer bubbles to permanent scratches though....

I ordered one. Was concerned that it would be tough to apply because of the high frame around the screen. Any tips how to apply well? You use a credit card to smooth the film down over the screen?
Oh one more thing. Has anyone tried removing one? Does it change or damage the screen in any way?
I have had several different screen protectors on my NST and none of them caused any damage when I removed them. I would note though that I have read that you must not apply a screen protector to the Glowlight, something about the built in screen protector and its light guide properties. I would also point out the one reason my NST has had multiple screen protectors is because they are so hard to apply without getting bubbles/lint between the screen and the film. The film I have on now I finally got applied without any bubbles/lint in the reading area, so it will hopefully be on there for a while. Make sure you are working in a CLEAN area and take great pains to get it lined up straight before actually applying it to the screen.
The NST doesn't need a screen protector, it really wont do much for the device, but if you really feel like spending the money for it go ahead.
The NSTG already has a protector built in, putting an extra one on would be like putting on an extra pair of latex gloves. It'll offer a little more protection, but it can get to be quite frustrating in terms of lost control. It's advised not to bother with a protector for the NSTG.
Personally unless you know you're going to have your NST in reach of creatures with claws, or lose objects with sharp edges the protective screen will do little for you. Even in those cases it's possible the screen would merely lessen the damage done rather than prevent it out right.
In regards to the NSTG and it's pre-installed screen protector, has anyone actually removed it? I've read lots of reports of people complaining about minor scratches and finger pressure marks causing the light to become very strong on those parts, wondering if removing the screen protector would fix that or whether it's instead a problem with the screen.

They claim there is one, I claim they lie as there is no visible edge of one. If there was you wouldn't get the light flares from minor scratches. Adding one may protect the screen but no idea what it would do to the light guide properties of the screen. If you ever have to remove it I'd worry what would happen to the light guide layer.
Because gadgets capabilities/sppecs increase rapidly & prices drop fast too, unless it's expensive I forget about screen protectors if the device is cheapish (got mine cheap) & if it will be outdated in a couple of years. Specially if it's not an outdoor device like my phone. Or if the protector hampers speed / functionality to some degree. Also personally I rarely scratch tab screens unless it's a phone, my phones/tabs all have protectors put on from day one, but not doing my NTSG. YMMV.

pre applied screen protector

Guys I noticed that after 3 weeks of use the pre applied screen protector has a lot of small tiny scratches.
I'm normally very cautious with the screen no scratches on my previous phones (one gorilla glass and two with screen protectors (those had the same only after a lot of months of use and replaced by a new one)
Is the purpose of the pre applied sheet only to keep the screen in one piece in case of the worst case and the phone drops?
Or is it a screen protector which can be replaced?
What is your experience here
O and for the guys which using the phone without the protector how turns that out in daily use?

I've removed the pre-applied screen protector since day 1. It's actually making my screen's sensitivity very low. I'm using only one sheet of anti-glare screen protector on it, and it had been working well for me.
Just pulled my preinstalled protector off as it was bugging me. Not sure I have done the right thing! The screen now feels a bit sticky even after a good clean. However the capacitive buttons do feel a bit more responsive.
Will report back after a couple of days without it.
Leave it there...
The company decided to place a screen protector (placed it perfectly) coz a lot of people like it's presence for more protection for their devices.
You have the choice to keep it or peel it off as u wish.
IMO; leave it there until it's unbearable for u, then u can remove it and replace it with another high quality one!
And for the responsiveness issue, in my experience with my other devices i've never felt any difference between having it on or not!!!!
I'm not remove the preinstalled screen protector but add in 1 more layer screen protector which is coming out of the box.
After a day without my screen protector, I am pleased I went ahead and removed it. I have now cleaned the screen with glass cleaner and the stickiness has gone. Colours are slightly improved and there is an extra, if subtle, sharpness to the screen.
The main improvement is that the capacitive buttons are much more sensitive than before.
I've just removed mine, the difference to touch response is great
Sorry but for me, I HAVE to wear the preinstalled or any other screen protections. I can NOT go with my phone and when I see a scratch in my screen I know it will be there for ever! With screen protection I always know when I see scratches in my screen(protection) I know its only the protection that got scratched.
So but that's me. Don't care if the screen gets a little bit more responsive, protection is important!

You are asking the right questions! I look forward to the next response from Sony on part number vs your querying about a protector on-top of a protector.
If people are finding touch sensitivity affected with one layer, two layers must be even worse!!
how the heck do you even remove this??!
I've got two on, and pre applied and one that was in the box (put that on before I knew about the pre applied one) touch realy isn't bad, but i swipe the 3 menu buttons as habit now, and works pretty good. I have a year on contract left, and i hate scratches so I'm happy XD

Removing factory-installed screen protector - is it a good idea?

I'm starting to get slightly irritated by the way the screen protector on the Xperia collects dust, as well as the fine line of dirt that seems to collect round the edges - so I'm considering taking it off.
I have never previously bothered with screen protectors and have never had any issues. I always keep my phone on its own in a pocket or on the desk next to me, so there's really no risk of scratching.
I also just saw the video that demonstrates the screen itself is more scratch resistant than the screen protector itself.
So... has anyone else removed theirs, and is it worth doing? Are there any downsides?
Cheers guys!

Thanks I did try searching but couldn't find the thread.
I've done it - looks and feels nicer without. Going to have to be very careful though!
Took mine off, no regrets.
Took mine off too - much prefer it. Only downside is that the screen always looks greasy when off but absolutely fine when on.
I don't know how much time it will take for me to peel off the screen protector. It's getting dirty all the time and when i'm on a webpage with a white background the display look like is covered with dirt. How is the screen without the screen protector? It's getting dirty very fast? Is more responsive?
The screens extremely responsive with the protector on imo.
-smc
I prefer it off, glass feels much smoother than plastic, the screen protector is quite thick also.
I'm leaving it on, I've as good as always used a screen protector and in the end it pays off. Really like the fact it comes preinstalled, because it's not that easy to apply a screenprotector with all the dust that can get under there and the usual bubbles.
As far as being sticky I'm not experiencing that, it feels almost as smooth as glass.
The dirt that collects at the edges is not fun but I know my screen is safe
Question for who has removed the screen protector:
do the yellow spots in the corners disappear without the protector? (maybe...)

Dear pascalbrax,
I think it wont solve it. I had no issues on my screen but, removing the screen protector should not affect it since it has relation only to a specific chemical they used inside the phone... I removed mine though, and I do not regret it...
No the screen protector has no effect on yellow tint issue.

I know that it shouldn't have an affect because the underlying issue is still there. However I scratched the screen protector and so removed it a couple of days ago and I've observed that the phone can get to higher temperatures before exhibiting the yellow splodges. Previously my phone got a yellow blob about 1cm from the bottom of the screen at about 34°C. I've gotten it upto 38°C at the moment and it's only showing a slight lighter patch, which usually shows up at about 28°C.
This suggests that the screen protector insulates the screen rather than allowing it to disperse heat quicker; it's obviously no fix but on my device it has certainly alleviated the problem.

Took me half an hour to remove -.-. Now I'm using the one that came in the box while waiting for capdase to arrive.
Pulled the mine off.
Feels better and also the buttons are more responsive.

Question with screen protectors

hey ive already changed 2 screen protectors within the 1st 3 days of using the phone cuz i realized i didn't like matte finish >>> Is it adviseable if i change my screen protector again as some people say changing too many screen protectors again and again may affect the touch screen sensivity of the device? just wanting to know
No it should not make a difference.

No difference as long as you make sure you clean the screen before removing/applying screen protector. Make sure there is no residue
as far as screen protectors go, i have mine installed by people @ ghost armor (i live in seattle). They do an excellent job (trust me... better than doing it yourself; its a nightmare lol)
it works great!
I find that screen protectors are a bit of a nightmare to fit with this handset because the body curves back at the edge of the screen. Standard protectors just do not work - they don't stick properly at the edge. I don't really like body armour but the Spigen wet application protector works well.
