What are the best non-motorola androids?
All motorola phones have call recording capabilities specifically crippled in their libaudio.so file.
I currently have an atrix and I don't have the knowledge of android OS to fix the libaudio.so myself.
Please FFS do not post anything about the legalities of phone recording in this thread. They are easily found by searching and not the topic of this thread. If anyone chooses to do otherwise, I humbly request a mod remove the off topic BS that seems to consistently arise in threads about software rather than legal oriented threads.
Thanks
Bueller? Bueller?
It has nothing to do with the phone, it's VZ, etc. Call recording works fine on MIUI.
I know on Samsung Galaxy S2 you can install a Call Recorder, check your phone-section.

It actually is the phone, the libaudio.so on ALL motorola US phones is crippled from the factory. No call recording software can work on the phone unless it's one of the jank garbage ones that only record's on speakerphone.
As someone pointed out earlier in the thread... call recording works fine in Miui roms.
Since you're looking for a software solution that would be the best way to go. Install Miui rom on your phone. If there is a Miui rom for your phone. I've recorded my calls multiple times and not for other folks for listening to it at a later time. A client calls me, I'm out in the field, we talk about specifics of the case, I record the call in progress and when I get back to the office I take notes. It does not work using bluetooth... or more specifically the client's voice can be heard but not mine.
Is there a 3rd party app that gives you the same functionality? I'm not sure. Haven't looked since Miui is my rom of choice and it does the job natively.
Good luck.

This is because it is illegal in alot of states unless you tell them you are recording them. If you don't they could sue you and have you put up on federal charges. The carriers are not gonna risk that.
If you want it then use an AOSP based rom that supports it. You could use MIUI but I wouldn't suggest it.

YOU WILL NOT BE BROUGHT UP ON FEDERAL CHARGES. You obviously don't know the laws and this is not the topic of the thread anyway. If you can't read then don't post, I specifically stated not to bring this off topic drivel into this thread.

Just in the spirit of the holiday here is the law
I never said you would, just that you can be. And just so you know. Every Android phone I have had has had the same issue. Only a few have been able to get it to work on AOSP roms as they dont use the stock files.

As I explain in PM, You CAN NOT be brought up on FEDERAL charges for recording your own phone calls. Federal law only requires one party consent, YOU are that party.
In the states mentioned in that link you can be brought up on STATE charges for violating the state laws.
However, all of this is off topic, I clearly stated in the first post

Your right this has gone way off topic. Topic is about the call recording software which is prevented on said phones.
You have answered. Of you want tgat ability you have to use a custom rom with it built into the kernel.

I take it voicemail is not good enough?
"I love my Springfield XD40"

Download vlingo from market.
It will do almost everything
!
Try Iris or Vlingo/Vlingo Beta for US!
Vlingo is pretty good at answering questions, almost like Siri!
E.g. I asked who the members of The Black Eyed Peas were and Vlingo answered the right names!
Iris is better if you want almost like a virtual "person" to talk to!
hope i helped

I think he meant something that records incoming calls when you're away when he said answering machine, not an app that literally answers to him
This could work

Wow, i can't believe how many people have been looking for a simple app that answers a call and records the callers message, like voicemail BUT NOT on a remote server.
I live in a rural area and i have no reception at my home, so when i get home from work I can't even check my voicemail, not to mention all the people out there who have to pay for a voicemail service.

Ok, I get it...
I just can't understand why such a basic feature, that almost all landline phones have, is nowhere to be found for android phones!

My guess would be because 98% of developers do not live in rural area's and don't have any real issues with being connected or not.. or simply being out of touch with reality like google's background data using up extreme amount$ of data time on peoples phones...

I thought of that, but the fact is, most users don't live in the USA where, it would seem, voicemail is free or included in all plans and data is cheap (for checking voicemail stored with online services)...
So what's the hangup? Is it for some obscure legal reason? Sometimes I wonder if it's not deliberate, to push us all into the cloud and take away the last controls we still have on personal data...
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2
I did read a short thread somewhere that said perhaps it was a firmware issue but there were no real details so i never took it seriously.
As for data being cheap.. well here in Canada they figured out that they can charge extra for data and that is the direction it is going in.. for example, last year I had unlimited internet $45/mth, this year, same and only company available to me $45 15gb/daytime/mth and 40gb/night/mth... and for phones they talk in mb LOL

why androids dont have a basic feature called answering machine
back way in the burst age of symbian the answering machines were so popular and were easy to use bcoz the symbian platform has an option called line 1 and line 2, in which during the call the voice intercoms with the recieved call from line 1, answers it and leaves the voice message from line 2. this option was crossed out in the android platform due to some synical reasons where a lot of myths says that this option has created bandwidth vulnerabilites on the source code & for which it was avoided. so unless the source is added with a bit of spicy line option i think the answering machine with a auto voice message would b an imagination.
try this app
https play google com store apps details id ru yukhlin answeringmachine
You can take incoming phone call, record voice messages, enter tone dialing and answer voice or beeps in according to a self made script program.

Yeah, I know it's not supported. The question is why? It's a current phone with very decent specs even now that it is around 7 months old. Are you really gonna tell me that a phone such as the DNA is not supported? What's wrong? It was supported just fine before this ****ty update you decided to put out. But seriously, even if you decide not to officially support it, why not allow the option for us to still download it? I'm sure the DNA can handle it..
Very disappointed in Microsoft.. I await your reply.

Hello XXXX,
We understand that you'd like to know why your device is not supported by Skype.
To clarify, the new 4.0 version of Skype is compatible with Android phones only. As we can see, the HTC Android DNA has the specifications of a "phablet". This means that it is a phone but has the size of a small "tablet" device.
Although most Android phones are supported by the new version of the Skype application, some are left incompatible due to the size, resolution and specification designs of the application. For this, we apologize for we are unable to provide a specific reason why it is not yet supported but we assure you that we are working on developing a version that would work with your device in the future.

I was actually fairly good at my job and explained things to the best of my ability. But the moment you cussed at me, I would probably tell you to speak/act like a damn adult. If you want ro be respected, you have to give it as well. That person could have easily told you to piss off for being a whiny kid. Obviously that rep didn't know why it wasn't supported, you made yourself look like a big baby with your language and use of caps lock. You could have easily asked to be transferred to someone who may know, such as his/her manager or supervisor. Not everyone is as tech savvy as the people on this forum, cut them a damn break.

Yup. Moderator just moved the thread.
You can probably just use a screen recorder to record those calls, this is the first one I found after some googling. Havn't tried it out myself though.
Edit: AFAIK in some countries it's illegal to record calls without the other person being ok with it, so you might want to check your local laws before using it

Judging by one of our XDA forum rules
9. Don't get us into trouble.
Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things which will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably shouldn't do it here either. This does not mean that we agree with everything that the software piracy lobby try to impose on us. It simply means that you cannot break any laws here, since we'll end up dealing with the legal hassle caused by you.
