I'm not sure how to set this up but I think it would be a good idea to set up a ROM poll so we can all vote to say which ROM we're all using...the poll could be reset by the moderator maybe on a weekly basis?
What do you guys think?

I think that sounds like a pritty good idea. Will spark discussion regarding the different ROMS and why some people are tending to use certain ROMS over others that are out there. Same goes with modem files that people find useful...
Cheers
poll for rom .. +1
but dont reset, mostly people will only enter it once. then they will forget the thread .. but it helpful for noob to choose which rom is the most famous ..
Yes this is a good idea, it will help people who don't want to extensively test out every rom out there before making a choice.
Ya resetting it would be a good idea, I flash a new one every week, but usualy come back to Cog, because I've followed DesignGears for a long time and am a big fan of his work.
He really knows his $hit, out of all the devs work ive flashed throughout my many devices I've been most impressed with DesignGears and Leedroid, both of those guys deserve come recognition.
As a pure popularity gauge - and nothing else - can't see any harm.
Your idea OP, do it!
Is this done yet? I am new to Android and would love to see a poll like this.
Thanks guys for your feedback...can someone please set up a poll as I don't know all the different roms available and how to set up a poll etc?

Some ROMs ive downloaded seem to be just a stock ROM with twlauncher replaced by other launchers available on the market with extra apps added.

Unlikely to be just stock + different launcher but you would need to read the roms specifications .
Point out rom version you describe please .
jje
It sounds to me like what you want to do could be achieved with a Kitchen, which is a program that can help you customize your existing ROM by adding and removing pieces from it. The kitchen then normally outputs a ZIP file you can flash.
Some kitchens run on your handset, some run on your PC.
I am new to Galaxy S II (I've been a Vibrant user for years), but I am sure a quick search of the forums will find you some kitchens.
I am a complete noob to this even if I get one of these kitchens i wont know what do next, will it have tutorials?

Essentially you're looking for an easy way to do this (like 90% of people on here), and there isn't one.
If you really want to make roms you wouldn't be asking basic questions on here. You'd be doing the research/learning necessary to achieve what you say you want to do.

This says it all. You're not even close to having the ability to make your own ROM.
And before anyone flames, I happily admit that I'm not close either. I've done the research, but lack the time and - especially - skills necessary.
There's a lot of tools that will help you theme a ROM, probably a better point to start from. Check the general android themes forum.
I know im not close but there was a time when the best rom producers didnt even know what a rom was.
Im just tryin to find out where to start and since theres a lot of rom developers on this site i think its the best place to ask

Agree - everyone has to start somewhere. But I reckon most devs here have some coding/programming skills as a base - something I certainly don't possess.
Here's a noob's guide that I've been promising myself to try one day, when I have 8 or 10 years spare... seems a good starting point anyway. It's for the HD2 but the general theory seems universal.
Otherwise, google.

Sorry if I do post not in the right place but, I would like to know if a Miui rom is planned for the Galaxy S3 on the part of Xiaomi or by a developer on XDA?
Thanks for your response .

I'm sure it will follow soon. I, for myself, never liked it.
Posting in Q&A section will help you more. Also questions like this are kinda dumb cuz no one knows answers to it. Google is your friend here.

this thread will definitely get moved
I have googled around...
MIUI Scotland posted a message on twitter a few days ago, saying they were basically working on the SGS3 version of MIUI.
There's also a dev attempting to port MIUI based on a thread which is called "how to port MIUI to your device".... but don't think he has got very far yet...
Aside from that, there is absolutely no news otherwise.
Sorry I can't link you up just now (tired...)
rest assured it's on it's way.. just takes time unfortunately.
Sorry for my post was not in the right place, Mardos and Ceo.mtcl
Stupid Question, not as long as it a portage would perhaps could be possible, I well see the responses of the section...
Thank you for your response, friends
If a moderator that passes by, can move in the appropriate section, I thank him in advance.
This is a very good news (for Miui on the GS3) and an excellent response, thanks much for this information, Kikassdave :victory: !!!
There is no problem, Kikassdave, you gave me lot of information and damage that it takes time, unfortunately...

Really? We don't need this kind of attitude. MIUI isn't just about the iphone-ish UI. You can just change the launcher if you don't like it. Most that wants it look for it's functionality and ease of use. Cyanogenmod might as well have those features also, but to each his own. This is what android is all about anyway; the option to choose if need be.
OP is asking a question, and instead of berating him, either help him out, or keep quiet if there is nothing to contribute.
MIUI is the best looking rom and on my SG2 the most stabile rom too. I could by a phone depending if its a miui rom for it or not.
Actually it's on its way very soon trust me

It's amaze me hw people talk about "this room is the most stable". Even with custom rom (exept CM7 alpha on my sgs) i never had any "random reboot" or "unexpected crash".
Anyway, i dont like MIUI style, but it's what android is all about (for us anyway) choice, if some user like it, why not.
Hi,
in next days you will see here a new rom for GS2.
It is based on AOSP, AOKP, CM9 and and other sources + some personnal developpement.
The result is a really usefull and efficient rom that you can use either if you are a developper of an all day base user.
You will find a lot a feature. The rom is fully configurable.
Interested ??
Keep informed
But where is the rom?

Good luck with your project but xda doesn't approve placeholders so this thread is about to close unless you provide a download link with a working rom.

MIUI is a complete framework replacement with its own alternative apps compared to a stock ROM. It has many built-in functions working together as one, for example music player + different modes of the lockscreen. Most of the applications are created anew and are much better/snappier to use than the stock ones, like the gallery. If you have never tried it, you should. It has (one of) the most beautiful Android UI available.
No need to convince me. I second this.
MIUI has a ui to make even devout iOS lovers jealous

I don't think the OP has to make any kind of argument to you.
MIUI is well known - and loved, in some circles - and a request for porting/development is well within any users remit. Whether any one does or not (port/develop) is a different matter, but doesn't stop a simple request!
Peace
Edit- ha ha, should have looked at the original date of this post .... no takers yet then ...
I have tried, and failed, obviously, to make a port of MIUI to the Touchpad, it ain't that easy!!
