Question S918B - Ghost moisture alert only fixed by booting in safe mode - Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Dear all,
I am facing a strange issue with my otherwise fantastic S23 Ultra.
I get USB moisture detected alerts from time to time without any water involved when I plug my phone in.
Nothing can remove the alert and allow to wire-charge except booting in safe mode, which fixes it instantly.
I therefore suppose it's a software issue cause by an app blocked by safe mode.
Would you knowledgeable guys know which app or process can cause this incredibly annoying behaviour? Or how to pinpoint the culprit?
Thanks a lot in advance!!!

There could be some dirt/lint there. Blow it out

I cleaned it completely the first time over.
And the safe mode fixes it so it seems my cleaning was thorough!
Thanks for the suggestion though!

I also sometimes get water alert warnings when using a case that slightly blocks the cable from being fully inside the port. Had this pretty much since day 1, but they disappear after about 10 seconds.

I've never plugged a cable into my phone.

Does your computer recognize the device? Do you see QHSUSB_DLOAD? If so, its possibly equipment failure

You might need to contact HTC.
Hopefully you didn't unlock your boot loader because that voids your warranty. If you did you would know you did its not something you do un-ententionaly. As for auto rotate it could be you accidentally turned it off on quick settings idk if thats on stock but it is on mine but i have a custom rom. As for your phone not turning on try it being plugged into the wall it never hurts to try it has happened to me before if not I would suggest skipping T-Mo and going directly to HTC for advice as they know their phones the best. In addition if they only have a sending it in solution then I would contact T-Mo and tell them your issue. Then you could most likely take it into a store and get a replacement no problem as it seems your phone is pretty new. The phone is pretty new not as new but it never rules out the possibility for a bug as even older well profound technology still has bugs that can cause a major system crash. Happens to me a lot when flying aircraft. Hope this helps.

[Q] Phone shutting down

My phone was working great for the past few weeks using custom ROMs (KA SSpeed) and DooMKernel.
But starting last week, the phone started shutting down itself. It just shuts down, but does not restart. I can power up the phone again without problems. But after using it for a while, it auto shuts down again. Sometimes it shuts down right before it gets to the lock screen when I power it up again.
Sometimes it will say "phone will shut down due to high temperature", but most of the time it would just say "shutting down".
When this happens, the phone is not hot and I do not play any games. The most I do is just short video clips.
Strangely, leaving the phone on the charger seems to be better.
Tried to clear data and do all wipes, reflash ROM, but the problem is still there.
Relocked the bootloader and used the Sony Update Service to restore to original condition but the problem is still there!
Anyone has the same problem? Maybe my CPU is fried?
Did you overclock with doom kernel?

Yes. I have overclocked it. But it was very stable. Normally if it pushed to too high frequencies the phone should freeze or reboot.

Try sticking to stock voltages for a while and see if the problem occurs.
Alternatively, you can also help to test the test versions he posted. Who knows, may be yours also one of the issue he is trying to hunt down .

Thanks. That is why I have tried relocking the boot loader and use the Sony Service update to reflash to original stock .73 firmware. But sadly, based on limited tests the problem is still there.

Well, just normal use. Internet browsing, YouTube viewing etc. Tried powering up just now after letting it stay off after 12 hrs and the phone auto shuts down right as it boots into the lock screen! This is with the stock firmware with no 3rd party apps installed.

Yes. I have another phone. I'll play with it a few more days before sending it in for warranty service. Thanks.
I think like gm007 said, it might be a hardware problem. I just find strange that it can die like this. Every flash was fine and I have never bricked it. It ran fine for 2-3 week on custom rom and kernels. There wasn't much indication that the CPU was overheating during that period.
The next thing I can think of is the temperature sensor. It seems that it is reporting a false temperature and triggering the shutdown. The sensor says the phone is hot when it really isn't. Do you guys think it can be recalibrated?
Finally decided to relock the bootloader and send it back for warranty service last week. Got a call saying that the battery connector has corroded! The stupid thing is they are now saying that they detected moisture in the unit and will not honour the warranty!!!
I know that I take good care of my phone and I have not spilled a single drop of water on it! The most is that I have used the phone after a jog and the screen was a little damp (I have a screen protector on too)
I now recall that there is a piece of white/pinkish area (recessed) behind the battery cover. Maybe that is the moisture detector strip? I know iPhones have it in the headphone jack.
Mine was pinkish before I sent it in. I have also heard that humidity may trigger the color change too.
Anyway, I asked to talk to the manager said he will bring it up to Sony as mine has the yellow tint issue and my phone is less than a month old.

[Q] HTC One M8 Headphone icon

I know there are threads for the m8 but they are a little older. Is there a fix for the icon in the status bar yet? My phone hasn't been exposed to water and I've never had headphones plugged in yet I get this icon that keeps me in headphone mode. I'm new to the site so if I'm in the wrong section I didn't mean to. I couldn't find anywhere else to put this. Thanks in advance

Seems like it's a random HTC thing. Sometimes it's from moisture, sometimes just an odd glitch. Doesn't seem to be a fix that works for everyone. Sometimes it helps to drain the battery completely, then charge it up completely and turn it on. Sometimes it helps to plug in headphones and unplug repeatedly quickly like 10 times.
Do the loud speakers still work while the headphone icon displays?

They do not work. I have to use sound about as a temporary fix. It's not a huge problem now but the icon is becoming a nuisance because I know my phone that I just paid $500 is looking back at me with an obvious flaw. Also, thanks for the reply

[Q] Very annoying and weird problem

After riding my motorcycle in the rain, my P780 started turning itself off and on. I assume the power button sort of makes contact from time to time. At first it would allow the phone to boot before shutting down and then power on. Now it's just resetting itself every few seconds.
Has anyone heard of something like this happening? My 2 problems:
1. How do I stop it? I'm afraid it will break for good with all the shutting on and off. I can't stop it because I cannot remove the battery. I am in Vietnam and don't have access to any tools. So I just here a vibrating sound every 2 seconds or so when it turns on. The screen flickers a bit, then it shuts itself down. Repeat.
2. How the hell will I explain my problem to a service? Nobody speaks English here and I am not in one of the big cities.
I have no idea if the water played a role in this. Maybe it's a coincidence. The phone is currently in a big bowl of rice. I have no idea if it will do something. It's been there for over 3 hours and the battery doesn't seem to be giving out soon.
So yeah.
Help!
edit: it stopped resetting.. Now it just stays with all three buttons lit.

Hi. It seems that the condensation played an interesting role in this problem. Let him dry few days then try to charge him again. See what is going on after...

Without wasting anytime I dis mental my phone and kept under hair dryer and gave heat so that all water can get dry.
It was my luck that when giving heat and assembling it. It started working.
Now it is almost a week since this incident was occurred. everything working normal.
Hope it should help you.

This afternoon I took it to a shop. The guy took the battery out, put it back in. Phone starts working. After a few hours same thing starts happening again. At least now I got a video and I can show to him tomorrow. I still don't know what the real issue is.
Indeed the power button contact was at fault. After fixing that (twice, because I managed to fill it with water again) I have a new set of problems:
1. The signal of both phone cards is awful. Useless 99% of the time. I see a lot of people have this issue
2. The security applications magically changed to chinese and there doesn't seem to be an option to turn it back to english (this coming from a mandarin speaking girl I met on a bus)
3. I constantly get the message that I cannot install applications because I have no space available on the phone. I just run the chinese security app cleaner and it ejects 250MBs of garbage.
I guess installing a custom ROM might fix this? I don't know almost anything about ROMs and it is really important I don't brick the phone. My phone seems to alteady have a custom ROM. I have Vibeui 2.0. Do you have recomandations for a stabile and easy to install english ROM?
Thank you very much

On the third point, no space available on the phone, either you're really out of space (check it, due to weird partitioning of the internal storage, might be true, but if you are trying to install through Play store (and know you have some space left), there is a known issue with the MTK chipset and Google Play Services version, giving this error. My workaround was to uninstall Play Store (it will not uninstall, but roll back all updates), then quickly install/update apps because the Play Store will update itself automatically again (can't stop it). Very annoying, but it works... After I upgraded to KitKat, no more issues with Play Store.

Blinking Arrow in Battery Icon

Hey Guys,
Recently my V30 has had a blinking arrow inside the battery icon. I've searched the internet and can't find any info on it. Can anyone give me some insight? The phone is only a few months old and hasn't been in the water.
Thanks!

I have the same issue. It's causing a huge battery drain! Were you able to resolve the issue?
Yeah, Turns out it means there's battery drain due to moisture in the charging port. I used isopropyl alcohol to clean the charging port and it eventually went away. You may have some debris in there. Was really difficult to figure out what that arrow meant. Wish there was better documentation.

Are you the same person who suggested this solution on Reddit or you read it on reddit and then tried it?
I think it's because the charger you used is giving too much current to your phone. You can fix this by connecting your phone to something that has low current like laptop or computer usb port and then wait for a while so that your phone can adjust
Ok so idk if I'm the first or probably the last one to encounter this issue but I'll be honest here. My device is LG G8X DUAL SCREEN. In the past week or so, I noticed that my phone randomly stopped charging whilst being plugged in. I thought that it could be some dirt clogged into the post so I cleaned it with a Q tip and some surface cleaner. Didn't seem to work. I let it be and felt it would go away eventually. Or so didn't I felt. I tried resetting the device (factory reset) and that didn't seem to budge the constant blinking of a right arrow inside the battery icon. Around here, I saw someone suggesting IPA and felt I should really give it a try. About 30 minutes before I tried that method and since then there hasn't been the issues so far. I'll keep y'all posted and will ping if issue persits. Hope this helps those in need

hmm
I solved my blinking arrow problem, with a new USB C cable, try that aswell.
