[Q] Phone shutting down - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

My phone was working great for the past few weeks using custom ROMs (KA SSpeed) and DooMKernel.
But starting last week, the phone started shutting down itself. It just shuts down, but does not restart. I can power up the phone again without problems. But after using it for a while, it auto shuts down again. Sometimes it shuts down right before it gets to the lock screen when I power it up again.
Sometimes it will say "phone will shut down due to high temperature", but most of the time it would just say "shutting down".
When this happens, the phone is not hot and I do not play any games. The most I do is just short video clips.
Strangely, leaving the phone on the charger seems to be better.
Tried to clear data and do all wipes, reflash ROM, but the problem is still there.
Relocked the bootloader and used the Sony Update Service to restore to original condition but the problem is still there!
Anyone has the same problem? Maybe my CPU is fried?

Did you overclock with doom kernel?

Yes. I have overclocked it. But it was very stable. Normally if it pushed to too high frequencies the phone should freeze or reboot.

Try sticking to stock voltages for a while and see if the problem occurs.
Alternatively, you can also help to test the test versions he posted. Who knows, may be yours also one of the issue he is trying to hunt down .

Thanks. That is why I have tried relocking the boot loader and use the Sony Service update to reflash to original stock .73 firmware. But sadly, based on limited tests the problem is still there.

Well, just normal use. Internet browsing, YouTube viewing etc. Tried powering up just now after letting it stay off after 12 hrs and the phone auto shuts down right as it boots into the lock screen! This is with the stock firmware with no 3rd party apps installed.

Yes. I have another phone. I'll play with it a few more days before sending it in for warranty service. Thanks.
I think like gm007 said, it might be a hardware problem. I just find strange that it can die like this. Every flash was fine and I have never bricked it. It ran fine for 2-3 week on custom rom and kernels. There wasn't much indication that the CPU was overheating during that period.
The next thing I can think of is the temperature sensor. It seems that it is reporting a false temperature and triggering the shutdown. The sensor says the phone is hot when it really isn't. Do you guys think it can be recalibrated?

Finally decided to relock the bootloader and send it back for warranty service last week. Got a call saying that the battery connector has corroded! The stupid thing is they are now saying that they detected moisture in the unit and will not honour the warranty!!!
I know that I take good care of my phone and I have not spilled a single drop of water on it! The most is that I have used the phone after a jog and the screen was a little damp (I have a screen protector on too)
I now recall that there is a piece of white/pinkish area (recessed) behind the battery cover. Maybe that is the moisture detector strip? I know iPhones have it in the headphone jack.
Mine was pinkish before I sent it in. I have also heard that humidity may trigger the color change too.
Anyway, I asked to talk to the manager said he will bring it up to Sony as mine has the yellow tint issue and my phone is less than a month old.

Yes. They repaired it under warranty and it is working fine. I cannot recall what exactly they repaired though.

[Q] Overheating issue

So a friend of mine could possibly be selling me his x10 for a ridiculously low price, which I found out from another friend to be because of (possible) overheating issues because he tried overclocking the phone; and after trying to bring it back down to the original speed it still is overheating.
Before I get into something that would completely waste my money, is there a way for me to be able to fix it so it works normally or would this be something that I should completely avoid all together. Basically, I'd like for some tutorials provided that can help me rectify this problem.
Thanks for any help provided.
its not possible to over clock the phone right now... so idk what your friend did. Also what kind of overheating issue is it? Getting really hot? or shutting down a lot?
Well thats was how I understood it as. And from the sounds of things it seems like it is just getting overly hot.

It's possible it's just his battery that's shorted. Maybe another battery? That or the GPS chip runs constantly... I know mine heats up when the GPS runs at full. I also say try and flash the firmware back to a regular ROM (Without mods).
Those are my ideas. Otherwise toss it in the freezer! haha
Sounds like new need some Arctic Silver, Heat Sink and a 200CFM SUNON!
Its a hardware fault. It will eventualy start rebooting, and after that it wil start shutting itself down or locking... i think its something with the pmu but not sure. If it has warranty send it to repair...

My Xperia started overheating and now its having very frequent restart cycles from several days. Is it a hardware fault in the Xperia X10?
At least on my first x10, it started like that, then only went worse. the first sign was when doing generous amount of traffic (heavy browsing, downloading some apps at the same time...) it started rebooting. After that it started doing it whenever it got network, during calls... even when reflashing.
So I would flash back to stock, then take it a day for a ride with.a backup phone. If it reboots even once, send it to repair...
I'm also experiencing the frequent reboot problem. It seems the best solution I've found was to send it back to SE for repair/replacement. That solution is unacceptable for me, as I spent $600+ for an imported x10a when it first was released, and as such, SE has deemed my phone "gray market" and I would need to pay for repairs.
I love my x10, but $800 for a phone that's still severely outdated and lacking some high-end functions is just not worth it.
I am convinced that the problem stems from a faulty temperature sensor in the motherboard. My phone is definitely not hot to touch, and it seems that just placing it in front of a fan alleviates the rebooting problem.
Do any devs know of a way to disable the temperature sensor either through an app or via adb?
Its doesnt look like bad sensor, but a bad ic on the board or a bad solder point.
For me it ended up getting stucked even on the bootloader, where everything is 'out of order'. The only way i got to reflash it was using my car's air conditioner at 16 degrees... didnt have warranty either, so the board now resides half dead on my desk...
Ouch. Sad to hear. Did you order a new mb or a brand new phone? If just the mb, mind sharing where you got it from and the price?
I bought a second x10 and left the other one for testing and parts... though this x10 is starting to get a little warm too, lets hope this doesnt die too...
The display ous on max, turn it down...that's why it's hot as hell

problem Phone turning off when charging, URGENT

Hi guys,
I seem to have a problem with my X10i, it randomly turns off by it self, below are the times in which ive noticed this:
Phone is charging and i am texting at the same time or talking for like 5 mins and then turns off
phone charging and it gets too hot and it turns off
phone turns off when hot generally,
i play a racing game for 20 mins and it turns off.
When it turns off it tries to reboot, it boot it s then turns off again, i have to take the battery appart, wait for 10 mins plug it back in and turn it on.
This gets annoying as it shouldn't really do this and its not as if i put my phone on top of the radiator in order for it to get hot.
Please help
Ps. it did this on android 1.6 and 2.1 so that didnt fix it.
Regards
Well, this is definitely a hardware problem... you should return it to warranty or try and get it robbed to activate insurance if you have one... lol

Hey,
Thanks for the reply, i have also noticed that when the phone turns off it make a small clicking noise.
Thanks for the suggestions but im in greece and i have no insurance cover and the phone was given as a gift so i don't know what is up with the warranty.
Totally a Hardware problem... Just take it to the nearest SE Repair. It'll cost you though.. :\ They Charge really high if u dnt have wwarranty.
Any ideas on which hardware could be causing this? do you reckon it could be just the battery getting too hot? or something else?
You will still have warranty even if it's gifted (through imei )

Oh nice i hope that is the case, i 'm not sure if its been a year though, how long does the warranty cover?
One year. Warranty is for one year and two years on special contract basis if i'm not wrong.
If your phone keeps restarting, (Heating) another issue could be wrong (or high) OC settings (like setcpu to high values) or something. Which fw are you running atm?
Try reflashing to Stock and see if the same thing happens?
I had the similar issue , I flashed it to Wolfs 2.2 switched off the mobile, Removed battery and let it cool down. After sometime it fixed the issue by itself

Hey,
Thanks for your reply, i do not know what oc speed i have or how to overclock, as for my version i have the stock 2.1 android rom and build 2.1.A.0.435
I DON'T KNOW HOW TO FLASH, i have seen tutorials but everytime i set my phone to usb debugging mode it over heats and turns off
Have nearly same problems. Looks like you have fuel gauge ic problems, max17040, to be exact. Or Qualcomm PM7540 power distribution ic, which is much worthier. Does your battery level changes sometimes after that glitches, and returns to normal after battery re-installation?

yes that does happened sometimes, the battery is on red and the phone crashes, but then when i take the battery out and plug it back in after 10 mins i get a white bar in the battery so in theory it has more battery than when it crashed.

You might need to contact HTC.
Hopefully you didn't unlock your boot loader because that voids your warranty. If you did you would know you did its not something you do un-ententionaly. As for auto rotate it could be you accidentally turned it off on quick settings idk if thats on stock but it is on mine but i have a custom rom. As for your phone not turning on try it being plugged into the wall it never hurts to try it has happened to me before if not I would suggest skipping T-Mo and going directly to HTC for advice as they know their phones the best. In addition if they only have a sending it in solution then I would contact T-Mo and tell them your issue. Then you could most likely take it into a store and get a replacement no problem as it seems your phone is pretty new. The phone is pretty new not as new but it never rules out the possibility for a bug as even older well profound technology still has bugs that can cause a major system crash. Happens to me a lot when flying aircraft. Hope this helps.

[HELP]Battery problem Motorola XT912

Hi guys, I have a very big problem regarding to the battery. Sometimes it doesn't charge or maybe it's full charged but It drops from 100%, 50%, 20%, 5% and then die (in a few minutes). Somedays it works well but the average is not good. I tried several roms , full wipes and I changed the battery. I don't know what to do. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
what firmware? that did before the problems started?
I believe your battery is damaged. Possibly from high temperatures. I recommend getting a replacement phone if you still qualify for the manufacturer's one year warranty.
thanks

I already changed it so I think is not a battery issue. I'm trying to avoid send it back because I'm from Argentina and I bought it in China.
Another issue is when you connect it all the night but it doesnt charge. At the first I thought it was a software issue but right now I don't know what to test. I think the most weird is when sometimes works just fine. It's making me crazy...I dont know if send it back or set it on fire lol.
Thanks guys.

Hmm maybe there is something wrong with your actual charging port. Have you tried resetting your phone's software?
I think you should flash the stock. before flashing do wipe. in order to avoid the problem of software.

I did it several times. I don't know what is happening but since two days is working "fine". The last thing I tried It was die-hard battery script. A guy in another forum recommended me to use compressed air to clean out the ports because it may have a piece of debris that is causing a direct short therefore killing your battery.
Thanks guys.

Poco F1 suddenly went dead. Help!

Last night while playing pubg my poco F1 touch stopped working, pressing the power button wouldn't let me turn the screen off. Long pressing the power button didn't switch off the device. Before it went dead I heard a constant hissing noise on the earphones for a few seconds. The temp was normal and the whole thing happened in about 30 secs.
After this my phone has been completely unresponsive, won't power on, not detected by PC, charging it wouldn't turn on led. When I failed to power it on again today morning and kept it in my bag, I realized the phone had warmed up slightly.
Probable cause?
I have been using NOS for around 4 months now. Exactly two days ago I tried flashing the vendor(9.6.27-9.0)+Nitrogen-OS-P-beryllium-20190714 from vendor(9.6.27-9.0)[/URL]+Nitrogen-OS-P-beryllium-20190614, which caused a lot of problems(UI crashing + phone heating) so I flashed back to the former. My phone was working fine till it died just a few hours later.
Few Questions
Unlocking and rooting doesn't void warranty, however I didn't find much about having a custom rom installed. I bought it from Flipkart flash sale on 29th Aug, 2018.
My phone has a few other issues - barely charges when I am on video call or pubg(1% in 20mins) & seeing ghost images due to image retention, which has been happening since last month.
I would take it to the service center tomorrow. In the mean time I would welcome any advice on how to get my phone fixed, as I hear that xaiomi servicing is notorious for creating more problems than solving.
I am barely within warranty so unless I get the best servicing it would be a pain to keep having to get it fixed.
Further is there any chance of getting a brand new phone?
PS: A big THANKS for going through this long post. I love my phones but Poco was the first to serve so well (my sony xperia mini, lenovo k3 note used to give me hell). I saved up and bought myself a poco , moving to custom roms fixed almost every problem. But that was short lived.
1) Playing PUBG is gonna make your phone run hot.
2) Charging your phone heats the battery.
3) Playing PUBG while your phone is charging is going to make your phone work hard and run hot.
4) If you live in an environment which is hot, the ambient heat isn't going to allow the device to cool very well.
If you haven't already, try holding the power button + volume up for about 30 seconds. I've had situations where, for some reason, it took substantially longer to get the device to wake up after a hard crash.
Not really sure what else to suggest at this time.
Get it replaced if you can I guess.
Sorry about the short lived Poco experience, that's unfortunate. Its a great phone!

2) yea I am aware, which is why I thought charging speeds were miserably low while doing something intensive. I thought it was a feature initially.. until I saw other users not experiencing that.
3) I love my poco and care for it like a mama .. I never let it run hot. Just warm.
Yea I tried going into recovery and fastboot. All I see is that my phone is making some heat when, that too can only be felt when I keep it in a ill ventilated space for a long time.
Thanks for the words man, I feel broken, never thought we would part this way. :'(
If you cant boot fasfboot or recovery, it is phisical issue. Go to service..
That's the speciality about Xioami ,
Change the POWER MODULE on PCB.
Contact a higher professional technician.
Same problem with me maybe about a month ago, when i used havoc 2.6, playing pubg but got system freeze, cant touch anything and the fps counter stopping too. What i've done was try to press lock/unlock button but didnt respond, it goes off when press lock button about 15-20seconds, so frustating when playing pubg around 30minutes.
But now normal when got 2.7 havoc update.
Thats the risk if we use custom rom/root device wkwk

Sorry to contradict you, but if the issue is the screen being dead, then why isn't the phone showing up on the PC when connected?
So I got it fixed today. I took it to the servicing center, they just said in case of liquid damage my warranty would be void and a nominal servicing fee of ₹118 would be charged. They replaced my motherboard and now I don't even have to flash MIUI again coz it's already loaded. Win-Win? no.. not yet ~_~
My screen retention or image persistence or ghost images being left behind still remains. At first they refused to even notice it, but then one of them later acknowledged and said that there is no way they can show that the screen fails their quality control check unless there are dead pixels or there is a touch issue.
I still have 10 days of warranty left and plan to do my utmost to get that screen replacement.
As for you good folks do be the judge if the problem is real or not. Youtube page and the ghost image of youtube page(doesn't show well in pic). If you feel kind enough do the same on your phone and let me know if you face something similar. Thank you
PS: for some reason the images links I posted didn't show.. does it take time for pics to get posted?

same thing happen with my poco f1 , i try to flash official stock rom but there was authentication need in order to flash rom. then i try some online flashing service but it didn't work, they said its some hardware problem. i also lost 30 USD(2400 inr).
I am fcuked.
Same thing happen with me today i was on stock rom and phone was also not rooted. While unzipping files my phone's screen suddenly got black and there after i tried rebooting it and all of my attempts failed. Now its not even charging. My phone is not in warranty what should i do? Me and my phone are both dead from within such a fabulous phone it was i dont even think of buying any other phone. Some one help me with the cost required to solve it. Thanks
Mine also dead about two weeks now ,unfortunately it s out off warrenty a week before that try to get by two repair shops, both said cant fix it cuz there's non spare parts. I googling around and in mi forum I read the post of a owner of poco face the same problem he said it's battery problem and get it fixed. now i placed order battery and also some top and bottom component of the phone just in case replacing battery won't work . My plan is If it not battery issue I'll try submerge the motherboard in 99% alcohol solution (method use for water damaged phone which i not sure my phone is ) and if that doesn't work I'll replace the board and component with new one this will cost me about 30$ and Awhole lot of my time. I took a gamble here .
This is not an useful response but using hotspot, uploading files and gaming stop my battery charging until I restart too

How did you restart it? Cuz mine just dead and I'm not the only one face this same exact problem I've alot of owners with the same problem phone just died that what make it's so hard to troubleshoot what wrong.
**some said" It could be water damage as poco have no ipx rate", some even said "As poco f2/f2 pro come out there's a chance xiaomi just put sth in update making our phones dead so we can by new f2 " ** For myself I only use it for 1 year before it broke right after it run out of warranty, so I think I'll never mess with mi phone ever again ,i got samsung, huawei(5years still running), Lg all of them still last this day except for LG v10 which i bought used still last 1 year and I did resale for same price I bought it.
So I started looking for huawei and I bought nova 5t for -100buck off with a whole lot of gift as the shop want to get ride of huawei phone due to SH*t going on between us vs huawei. Happy with it so for and I hope it gonna last atleast 3years if not longer like my old huawei device.
bro same problem bro what happened what is the solution for this

i have exactly the same issue, happened a week ago, it just froze on lock screen , went off and nothing is responding. it does the same thing as yours when i connect to pc. Hope theres a solution to this . Have you tried flashing in edl mode with an mi authenticated account? That's one of the solutions i'm seeing online. Haven't tried it yet though.
i am unable to get edl mi authorised account .mi service centre are just forcing to change the motherboard....not getting any solution from last 4 weeks
many russian youtubers are claiming that they have got edl authorised account ..but i know they are just scamming users..
