Hello All,
Been reading threads regarding similar issues since my issue occurred last night, but none of the fixes seem to do the trick for me. I am on AOCP CP2 basically since the time I got my Note, and haven't had any issues with battery, charging, or anything else for that matter. Last night my phone gave me a 15% battery warning, and by the time I checked it 5 minutes later, it was down to 1%. I went and plugged it in, and it had died by the time I got to the charger. Plugged it in and an empty battery symbol with the 'refresh' icon in the center appeared. Let it sit for about an hour then came back to power it up.
- A normal length press of the power button did nothing
- Holding the power button for about 10 seconds yielded three vibrations, then the display of the empty battery with refresh icon, which promptly disappeared
- Holding power + vol. up, power + vol down, all three, power + home + vol, all result in the same as above
-Computer does not recognize the phone via usb
-Removing the battery and connecting to computer via usb makes the phone vibrate repeatedly. Adding the battery while this is happening gives 3 vibrations and the dead battery with refresh icon on the screen
Tried:
-Leaving it plugged into charger overnight
-Removing battery/sim/sd card for various lengths of time
-Holding power button down with battery removed
-cleaned usb port with toothbrush (wasn't that dirty to begin with and hasn't seen water)
I don't have an extra battery or charger to test things out with at the moment, but if anyone has any insight beyond the things I've already tried and read, it would be greatly appreciated! Happy Thanksgiving!

try to charge ur battery on another phone or replace it with a frined's one... and then power on ur phone
This happened to me few times.
After charging it for a bit, I removed battery and put it back. Long hold power.
I just repeat this and eventually it will turn on.

I plugged in my razr before I went to bed. I've been using a HTC plug and cable for the last few months no problems. Woke up this morning and battery was at 5% and then the phone died completely soon after. I plugged it in using my original motorola plug and cable. The dual core screen came up and then the battery level said 0% and it looked like it was charging. It died again after about half an hour. Now nothing will get the phone going. I also tried the hard reset (Power and volume down). The phone is unrooted and hadn't been updated to Jellybean yet.
Any ideas what I can try?

Try using the correct charger and charge it for about an hour, thats the first thing I would try. How long is the htc cable you're using because the longer the cable the slower the charge.
I have tried multiple different chargers with no joy. I think the problem is with the connection. When I plug a charger in the white charging light flashes briefly for a second. I checked the connection for dust and it looks clear?
Try Booting into bp tool or hw diag (hold vol up and vol down then press power should see black screen with white text vol down moves cursor vol IP selects) the phone should charge if left in one of these modes (if you can even make it this far without the bat dying that is). if that don't work could try disassembling then charging the battery directly (never tried this its only an idea try at you own risk)
My xt910 razr maxx has suffered exactly the same fate overnight. Worked fine yesterday now it's dead with the only sign of life from the white led when attaching the moto usb charger. Phone wasn't run flat prior to this. Baffling

Yes I have and no button combination produces as much as a glimmer. I've had the back off and checked the battery for charge, it shows 4.3 volts so it's not that. Something has failed catastrophically I fear.
Check the battery's cable that connects to your phone. If that cable was broke, you can just see the battery level but without charging it.

I've read around this a little now and have invested £3 in a Motorola Factory Cable of fleabay which hopefully will resolve the issue. Due to be delivered next week so I'll keep you posted......
Well got the factory cable and tried it holding the vol down button. Nothing. Took the back off the phone and checked the voltage of the battery 2.75v. Removed the battery and tried the factory cable with vol down. Still nothing. Reinstalled battery and left charging off a pc overnight, this morning it had risen to 2.83v. Starting to think that this phone has had it
Cut the end off a micro usb cable, exposed the wires and connected the red and black to the battery terminals then plugged it into the moto wall wart. Left it until fully charged....volt meter read 5.1v, the output of the charger. Disconnected and checked charge, 4.2v out of the battery.
still dead. Nothing. No red moto screen, no recovery nothing. Something else must be amiss. All I get is a brief white led flash when I plug in the standard charger cable.
anyone have any ideas where to go from here other than the skip?!
Just resurrecting this thread in the hope someone has found a solution....
I still have a brick which is unresponsive to two factory cables plugged into my PC with and without the battery in.
Trouble is I've got pictures on there I'd like to recover if possible which causes me to persist with this troublesome device!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2431617
I access the boot menu by holding both vol up and down, and pressing the power button (hold for ~2 seconds, and release the power button, while still holding vol +/-. Volume down will only send you to APFastboot. Check out the post, I encountered the same problem. The final method I tried was the winner. Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for that, I'll certainly give it ago when I get a free hour one evening this week. I am concerned though that the factory cable doesn't work, I was under the impression that the phone should at least respond to its connection in some way - it doesn't even when vol-is depressed when connecting to pc.
The only response I get from the phone is a brief flash of the white led as the usb cable (factory or charging) is connected to it.
That indicates that there isn't any power management remaining on the phone, and the battery is pretty weak. You'll need to get the battery charged up manually. After you flash with the last method I used, you should be able to reconnect the battery and charge the phone all the way up before booting. Sounds like you're having the exact same problem I did.

Really , Really wanted this to work but it doesn't look promising.
Made the USB charge cable as described (white and black twisted together to -ve, red on its own to +ve). Battery removed from phone, usb on charge cable connected to PC.
5 Volts found at the battery connection terminals. Original Moto Data cable connected to phone then PC. White LED flashed on for slightly longer than before then off. No response from phone - nothing on the screen or vibration with or without any combination of Vol- and vol+.
Battery refitted and charge lead attached to terminals as above to charge from PC. Now reading 4V across the terminals charge lead plugged in, 3.84V cable unplugged so presumed charged.
Still no response other than the brief white LED from the phone with either the Data or Factory cables and Vol-(or any other Vol configurations).
Any ideas???
I assume you tried pressing and holding all the buttons, for five or ten seconds, or even a little longer, to try a full reboot. Beyond that, I wish I could help more. I'm slap out of ideas. This was the last step for me (as the solution usually is). The main board might have had it, though I don't have a clue why.

I'm thinking dead mobo too. When it died it did so overnight without provocation - no flashing or tinkering, it was left on the kitchen sideboard and found dead in the morning. oh well I've tried. many thanks for your help:good:
Glad to try and help. I guess it's time to move on to the next device! Let us know if the phone sporadically decides to work, or you figure out a solution!

I am not sure if you already watched this video, its for droid razr maxx, charging a dead battery and works perfectly for droid razr too.
My droid razr was exactly in same condition, white light and no charging, did not power up, completely dead.
I popped open the back case, connected the modified usb cable wires to the positive (Red wire) and negative (black wire) ends of the battery and let it charge (stay connected) for one hour. Then i pressed vol up+ vol down + power button. And my phone switched on.
If only your battery is dead, this should work.
This is what i have.
Galaxy Tab 2 GT P5110 No power. and no signs life at all..
This is what i tried.
1. Left charging over night with a different charger that i know for a fact works.
2. Tried all combination of button presses. Power 15 sec, 30 sec. Power + touching screen 30 sec. Power + vol up. power +vol down. etc.
3. Replaced P5110 logic board with P5113.
4. Left all components unplugged with the exception of battery, power ribbon, lcd and digitizer ribbon.
None of these made a difference.
What can i try next? When i plug it in to charge, no light comes on. Should there be a light on the tablet if charging? or maybe a battery indicator on the screen? I'm trying to rule out the power button. The next possible solution for me would be the battery or the battery charge port. Any ways to troubleshoot any of these two?!
thanks

Thank you so much.. that service manual will definitely come in handy.
Last night i went to my cousins house since he had two P5113 models that were awaiting screens for replacement (he works at a rental center). I tried one of his batteries and it fired up right away. Long story short, it ended up being the dock ribbon cable. I tried one of his, and it started charging my battery! lesson learned.. ha...
Thank you.
From reading your post I was thinking about a faulty battery, but good you found out the problem

You told that you have replaced the PCB with one from the P5113.
So I guess they are compatible? Can I replace a P5110 with this board?
Battery Open circuit - Boost Method
This happened to me recently.
I left my tab discharge for a very long time. All the basic things wouldn't get the device to start charging again.
I checked the battery voltage and found that the battery had gone open circuit. This is a mechanism of the battery protection IC to protect against extreme discharge of the Li-Ion battery. My device was unable to wake the battery from this state - I guess that this is very bad design on Samsung's part.
To get around this do the following:
1. make sure that your battery is disconnected from the main circuit board.
2. get/ borrow/ steal a constant-current constant-voltage variable PSU.
3. set the PSU up at 4.2v with the current limited at 200mA
4. attach the leads to the battery and turn it on. ( red to red and black to black ! this can be done with small clips or multi meter probes )
5. wait for the battery voltage to rise from < 2.7v to around 3.6v.
6. disconnect the leads and re-attach the battery to the main circuit board.
7. before you package everything up connect you charger and turn the device on with the power button.
note: you don't have to complete #5, as long as the voltage raises to > 3.3v should be enough to stop the protection IC from defaulting back to protect mode and allow charging via the normal method.
This was very annoying for me, luckily I know a couple of things about how these systems work. If I didn't someone would have made a load of money out of me or the device would have ended up in the bin.
This is a general solution to problems of this kind not specifically limited to the Galaxy Tab 10.1

Kirem,
The GT-P5113 battery is actually a battery pack consisting of two batteries. The single connector from the pack that attaches to the main board of the GT-P113 has two red wires, two black wires and one blue wire. I'm assuming the blue wire is a "balance" charging lead, the red and black wires connect to each individual battery respectively (bat1+, bat1-), (bat2+, bat2-).
When charging using your method, I assume both batteries (or cells) need to be charged at the same time and with the same amperage. Is this assumption correct?
Tab 10.1 wouldn't power up this morning even though I'd had it connected to mains power overnight (approx 12 hours). When I plugged it back into the mains power, the battery indicator on screen showed 100% - it powered up (still on mains) and started working beautifully - but, as soon as I unplugged it from the mains power. Black Screen and no life at all. Tried to power up again - nothing. Plugged back into mains - shows 100% battery life - powers up and works fine. Repeat above as many times as you like but it just wont work on the battery. I've tried:
* Holding down the power but for 10+ seconds - nothing
* Holding down the power but for 30+ seconds - nothing
* Holding down the power while touching the screen with on finger - nothing
* Holding down combinations of the power button and/or the Vol up/Vol down buttons (lots of different sequences as recommended by different forums) - nothing
It wont boot up into bootloader mode or anything....
Mains power = fine
Battery = nothing
It was all working fine yesterday morning and now it's toast!
I have noticed that it only works on mains power - it won't work simply plugged into the PC
Any ideas? 'Coz I've run out.... :crying:
Dial *#*#4636#*#* and under Battery Information, you will know whether the battery is the culprit or not. Battery Health should show Good.

Hmmmm... it's a tablet (Galaxy Tab 10.1) and doesn't have a phone, so I don't have anywhere to dial from...
Sorry for my assumptions! I assumed because I can make calls with mine, that you also could. Anyway mine is the 3G variant of the same 10.1. However, it is rooted which means I do not have the same limitations you have. I make regular calls with it and is currently running on Android 4.3.1.
Cheers.

Definitely sounds like an hardware issue, you can try downloading an battery information application from the play store to see if it reports things like a temperature or voltage. Maybe the battery cable somehow got disconnected and you can repair it by opening up the tablet...
Can you 'over charge' these devices?
I'd had it on charge for a couple of days. That's when I noticed the problem.
It's now been sitting around for about 4-5 days powered off and last night I pushed the power on button and it burst into life with a full power on cycle (so it wasn't sleeping).
But, the date and time had been reset - back to some date in 2004 and 00:00 hrs.
Something seems to have gone 'bump in the night' and brought it back to life.....

OK....so it's happened again.... :crying:
Left Tablet on charge, now it won't power up unless it's connected to the mains power.
Last time I had the problem it suddenly recovered (apparently all by itself) and it worked fine for ages. I re-charged the battery quite a few times, but suddenly, it's decided to stop working on the battery again.
In the last month, the battery goes up to 100% and drops down again. I usually recharge the tablet when it's around the 10-15% level. I don't do anything odd or extraordinary....
I don't beat up or drop the tablet, it's well taken care of...
Has anyone ever heard of this before?
Well, I've replaced the battery. Charged it fully and.... no change!
While the Tab is plugged into mains power, it runs like a charm.
As soon as I unplug it from Mains power (with the battery showing 100% full charge), it powers off immediately. No shutdown, just a black screen.
I'm now certain it'll need to go in for repair as something inside has broken, but does anyone have a better understanding than me (not very hard!) of the internals of the Tab and where the problem may lie ???
Cheers
Hi,
I had a Sony Z5 compact in a drawer for about 2 years, where the battery already was weak. I'd like to use it as a smarthome button panel where the bad battery won't matter, but I can't get it to turn on anymore.
When I first plugged it, the status LED switched to constant red. I unplugged it a couple hours later, just to find, that the LED stayed on even when unplugged. The device still was cold, so I don't think, that it really charged.
Since there was no reaction on the power button, I tried the "OFF"-button in the SIM slot. After reading on the internet, I held that button for 2 minutes. The phone vibrated every 15s, so it seemed alive. I then plugged in the charger, again the status LED turned constant red. This time the device got warm, seemingly charging.
After a couple of hours I tried starting it, but still, theres no reaction on the Power button. I again tried the OFF button, with no reaction whatsoever, not even vibrating anymore. Also the status LED shows no more reaction on plugging it in.
Is the device dead now? Anything I can try to get it working again? I don't need the battery anymore, Its supposed to spend its second life permanently plugged in.
best regards,
RockNLol
The usual advice is to make sure it is off (Hold power and vol-downup until it vibrates 3x / if really dead, just wait ~20s), and then leave it on a charger for a few hours. If that doesn't do it, your battery is toast.
Even if it is revivable, there is a chance that it is so weak that it will make the phone crash - the battery is used like a buffer even when on the charger, and if the phone needs high peak current, it will try to take it from the battery. If the battery is too weak, voltage will drop and the phone will crash.
In any way, I would not want a battery that is potentially damaged to be at the charger 24/7. If you deep-discharge a battery, it can form tiny little short circuits, and if you charge it, it can become a fire hazard. As in, burn your house down and release lots of toxic fumes while doing so.
If you are familiar with soldering, the best solution would be to open the phone, remove the battery, and replace it with a fake battery circuit. Obviously, don't do this if you aren't comfortable doing this kind of stuff, and always have a plan for what to do if the battery decides to light on fire.
For that, after you removed the battery, try to pry off the yellow tape on it, and get to the battery protection PCB near the connector. Carefully cut the leads to the actual battery and remove it (this is the most dangerous part). Then, solder a large capacitor across the battery leads and a connector for a power supply that can provide around 4V at, idk, 2-3A. There aren't many 4V power supplies, but a 5V one and a (silicon) diode in series work well (make sure the diode can survive a couple amps). Then, plug the fake battery back into the mainboard, fix everything in place using tape or glue, and see if it boots.

Power and Volume-Up?
Sure, one of the two
Power + Volume-down starts TWRP when the device is not running.
When the device is running, it takes a screenshot.
