Problems Accessing Bootloader - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

All,
I spent hours last night trying to access the bootloader on my XDAII so that I could switch it to the 1800MHz band. I simply cannot access it, when I hold the power button and press reset it simply cold-boots, gives me an O2 screen then goes through the setup process.
Details of the system are:
PPC2003 V4.20.0 (Build 13252)
ROM: 1.60.00WWE
DATE: 12/03/03
Radio: 1.10.00
Protocol: 1337.18
ExtROM: 1.60.50
I flashed the device with the latest ROM image from O2: http://www.sourceo2.com/O2_Developers/Devices/O2_Xda_II/XdaIIRom.htm
I did this before trying to access the bootloader. Could this ROM change the way the bootloader works, restricting access? If so does anybody know where I can get an old/different ROM from and how I can install it with no bootloader access?!
I am *absolutely* sure it is not the order I am pressing the power button and the reset button as I spent ages trying different combinations of press and hold!
I did find that if I pressed power button, reset and joypad I get a screen which simply says "Serial v1.03" this changes to USB when the cable is plugged in but I couldn't go anywhere from there in this mode!
I also tried bandswitch.exe to resolve my problem but this didn't seem to work and gave the current band as ERROR. Again, is this because it is incompatible with the new OS?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated,
Rich.

i case youre still looking for an answer: Bootloader is accessed via power-navi-reset all together.
BTW: WHY do you want to access it?
Bandswitch is not neccesary with Himalaya. Its three-band: 900MHz, 1800MHz, 1900MHz switches automatically (personally not tested 1900MHz)

Thanks, but, how put in my phone?
Soft reset is placing stylus in the hole on bottom left of xda, if that doesnt work you will need to reflash your xda using sd card method.
Sorry. Now, I save, the file in sd card, this is corret? and then?
You have to use xdatools to write the .nbf file to sd card, choose your nbf file as source and choose the sd card as destination, do not use the browse button in the destination box, use the drop down to the left of it, this will show your sd card, once it is written you need to put it in your xda, then enter bootloader mode, it will ask if you wish to continue the flash, press the action key and it will flash the rom, make sure your xda is charged.
Ok, thanks again, now my phone, coming up, but only see on window the screen pocket pc 2002 "Tap the screen to set up your Pocket PC" but when I tap noting, ActiveSync is connected and up date mi pocket, I supposed, I see in my computer and synchronized all. Qtec 2020 dead after update

Hi everyone,
I've tried to upgrade my PDA from:
ROM version - 2.06.00WWE
Radio - 1.14.00
ExtROM - 2.06.100a
to
ROM version - 2.06.00WWE
Radio - 1.18.00
ExtROM - 2.06.100a
but it went wrong during the erasing proces. The only thing on my grey screen is USB and v1.02. I've tried the setup again but it keeps by zero percent during the erasing proces, followed by error 112. Also I've tried a hard reset but nothings hapens. After the hard reset the screen shows USB and v1.02.
Can someone please help me out.
Many thanks
powerkite
problem solved
I had ot give the device a hard reset (you know styles with on/off button) in combination with the button between both phone buttons. After this run the upgrade again. It will not show information of the device version, only the version you want to upgrade to.
good luck

Radio Version: 6.24.00
Protocol 324e4
HELP!
TIA!
Mike
i have exactly the same problem. i have been searching google, i couldn't find any solutions.
the only thing that you can do is to turn off the phone and turn it back on, (click on the signal icon to turn it off) that case you don't need to soft boot it everytime.
if you found a better solution, please tell me.
thanks
good luck
before updating I have same problem, but now everything is ok and it's connecting by itself

1. Start your device in bootloader mode by pressing and holding down:
DPad + PowerButton + ResetButton
After a second release ResetButton, then release the rest of them.
Your screen will show word "Serial" at the top.
You are in bootloader mode now.
2. Place your device in the cradle, ensuring that the cradle
is plugged directly into a USB port on your PC and not to a hub
and that the power supply is connected to the cradle.
It is also a good idea to disable any screensavers on your desktop PC.
Once your device is cradled, the text on the screen will change to "USB".
3. Run HimaUpgradeUt_noid.exe
4. Sit back and wait for the Congratulations screen to be displayed
on your PC. Your device will still be displaying 'Upgrading radio stack, please wait',
but as long as the PC says it is done, then its all OK.
5. Detach your device from the cradle.
6. Now you have to hardreset your device.
Press ResetButton and hold down CameraButton + RecordButton.
Hold them pressed until the "Boot Options" menu appears on the screen.
Select the options as follows:
(for selecting use RecordButton, change values with CameraButton)
Enable KITL -> NO
Clean Registry Hive -> YES
Format Storage -> YES
When done, press DPad and wait until OS starts.
wow - ma, thx; perfectly :d:
It worked, no i have a version of 7.04.c, i guess win 6.0
---
Just few problems left:
1.) fixed
2.) Is there a german version anywhere???
3.) edit: my mistake; fixed
4.) I read, there is no problem of downgrade it (no, i don´t want), but from where i should get the german version for downgrading)
5.) My mda was without simlock (I could use every phonecard), i hope i still can ))
Edit2
6.) I have the program PowerLOC Destinator (a Navigation Program); when i would start, he tell´s me: Invalid PocketWizard Setup package
I guess Navigator is not made for win 6, cause the programm is the original sd-card
7.) At settings i can "switch" wlan; I guess this is just from the OS, cause as i know, a standart mda2 doesn´t have wlan
Background: A guy from phonecompany told me, that t-mobile, switched off the wlan-function, so that i customers doesn´tt know, that his pda can wlan (Branding of t-mobile); but the hardware is inside the pda; They made it at vario 2 and mda pro
Edit3:
Next Problem:
When i connect now the craddle with the mda, i get following error msg.
-Generic RNDIS (PROTOTYPE--Remember to change idVendor-
And ActivSync is not connecting
I duno, how to fix
ActiveSync 4.5 doesn´t work on my w2k-pc, and my mda sais he needs 4.5
With 4.2 and down, i can´tt connect the mda
Anyway, thx, thxy, thx, this was really a good describtion
