Can somebody please give me very explicit instructions on how to save my current ROM to either a 512MB SD card or a file on my PC.
I would like to try different ROMS but cannot afford to permanently break anything.
I have tried XDA tools but cannot get it to write the image to either my hard disk or the SD card. Do I need to format the SD card to be a bootable card first? Do I need to use a special filename in XDA tools?
Should I be able to save the ROM to SD from bootloader mode - if so how, and again do I have to format the SD card in a special way first?
Finally having got a ROM image how can I check that I can recover before blowing all I have away?
Apologies for asking dumb questions but I am getting nervous in my old age.
My current setup is an O2 XDA2
Rom Ver 1.60.00WWE
ROM Date 12/03/03
Radio Ver. 1.10.00
Protocol Ver. 1337.18
ExtROM Ver. 1.60.50
Both the upgrade rom and the launch rom are available on the O2 site.
Hi guys,
I have a T-Mobile (Wallaby PW10B1). When I inserted a local SIM, it asked me the SIM Unlock code. Currently I don't have the serial cable. I just only have a USB cable to connect to the computer. It has a 32 MB mem card. Here is the specification:
Hardware: PW10B1
Platform: PocketPC 2003
ROM Version: 4.01.16.ENG
ROM Date: 02/04/04
Radio Version: 6.25.02
Protocol Version: 324e4
Can u please help me to Unlock the Pocket PC Phone Edition?
Thanx in advance
Berhane

Thanks LumpiStefan for your reply.
Currently I have only 32 MB SD card. I'll find a 64 MB SD card and try it

Me Too...
I had almost exactly the same specs as berhane, except I had a 512 card. I installed the xda-special rom and it installed correctly I think ???
But my phone still says it's locked. Did I miss anything.
Here is what I did.......
Programme A did not work for me for some reason so I did the following steps.
1. downloaded xdatools and backed up my old rom.
2. ran osimagetool --register
3. ran osimagetool for source used NK.nbf in english directory for target I used xda SD card and copied the image to the card.
4. held down the on/off button and hit soft reset to get into bootloader
5. bootloader detected rom image and so I flashed rom
6. did a hard reset of xda
I now have the xda-developer special edition rom with the following specs
rom version: 3.17.03 ENG
rom date: 05/15/03
radio version: 6.25.02
protocol version: 324e4
but when I insert try turn the phone on it still asks for a sim unlock.
I had the sim in the xda when I flashed it was that the problem ???
berhane....I think you can get away with a 32meg card because the image is only 15meg in size but I'm not sure.

Hey Guys,
When tried to execute the pnewbootloader command
i.e. c:\XDATools\pnewbootloader bootloader_v5_15.nb0
it prompts an error message " Unable to find flash info offset, cannot
disable bootloader write protect."
What can I do with this error meassage.
Here is my memory Information:
Total Main memory: 31.01 MB (32 MB)
Storage Card Memory: 29.14 MB (32 MB)
What can I do with this configuration
Thanx in advance
Berhane
Try this tools....
HTH
Stefan
Thanks HTH. It works with your new utility
now it goes one step
i.e.
C:\XDA\all-itsutils-050416>pnewbootloader.exe bootloader_v5_15.nb0
Copying C:\XDA\all-itsutils-050416\itsutils.dll to WCE:\windows\itsutils.dll
protection found at 8c0d60f8
but it doesn't say result: 00000000 00000000
Is it okay and continue with the rest of the procedure?
Thanks in advance
Berhane
Yes. You should be able to proceed with the rest of the procesure...
Stefan
Thanks stefan.
The boot loader is changed now. As I mentioned, I only have 32 MB and when I format the SD Memory, I can only use 30.5 MB and the the special ROM file size is 31.5 MB file. I 've got a 64 MB Memory (multimedia memory from Nokia 6230 Mobile) but my XDA didn't recognize the SD memory.
Anyways thank u very much Stefan, I'll find another SD memory and try it.
Berhane
You do not need to format the 32 meg sd card, xdatools will do its own format, I am sure I did an sd rom flash with 32 meg card in the past.
Thanx Cruisin-thru for your reply.
Can u tell me the procedure how to copy the ROM (NK.nbf) with the XDATools
Thanx in advance
Berhane
osiamgetool uses the xdatools in the Background. So just run this file...
Instructions are also available here:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wallaby/Tools/XDAtools_Manual.zip
Stefan
Thanx Setefan.
I 've got error message when I tried to copy the ROM image with XDATool.
First , I tried to copy the image file and starts copying, when the 'Time Left: 0:51' it pop ups with this error message.
ITWriteSDCard: The system cannot write to the specified device
Writing osimage: The system cannot write to the specified device
ITWriteSDCard: The system cannot write to the specified device
Is it b/c of the shortage of Capacity of the SD card . (I 've only 32 MB)?
Any Idea?
Thanx in advance
Berhane
Hi guys,
My MDA has only 32 MB Internal memory and 32 MB SD card. With this configuration, am I able to do the flashing process?
Thanks

32 MB internal are no problem. But i'm nearly 100% sure, that your SD-Card have to be bigger.
My smallest one is 64 MB, so i can't test it.
But i've tried a backup of the Magician device, that has 64 MB internal Memory. Backup with 64 MB SD-Card didn't work. Got an error, that there isn't enough space. So i would assume it's the same with the Wallaby and 32 MB SD-Card.
You're Error Message you've got writing to SD-Card comes from that problem.
I would suggest to buy or lent a bigger SD-Card and use this for flashing....
64 MB Cards costs about 10 Euro......

Stefan
Thank you very much stefan.
I'll try to find a 64 MB SD Card.
Is there any ROM image which is less than 32 MB. (i.e. 15 MB) which has less software just to check.
Thanks you again stefan
Berhane
No. ROM-size is fixed to 32 MB. This depends on the hardware of the device.
Tho Original ROMs, that have the free space, so that we can add our own software in it, have also 32 MB....
Stefan
Thank you very very very much stefan and the rest of the team
I have successfully unlocked my mobile.
I have one question for u.
How can I upgrade the Windows from Special XDA ROM Edition to newer version (i.e. tested and well working with MDA) mobiles
Thanks again
Just the same procedure.
You can do it by flashing via SD-Card (safest way) or using the exe-File.
In my opinion the best ROM to use is the 4.01.12....
Stefan
Hi Guys
First sorry for my english I hope you can understand what I meen
I updated my VPA1 = QTEK 2020 with Ger.shiped rom from Vodafone. it's original rom.
Now I have a problemm with SDCARD. I can read sd with Qtek but I can't whrite on it.
I thing new rom killed sd-slot driver???? or something like this.
Please make me Happy tell me what I can do!
Thanksalot
Cheers
Aykut from Germany
VPA I ~ QTEK 2020 von Vodafone
Modell-Nr. H10B
ROM ver. : 1.72.01GER
ROM Date : 03.16.2004
RUU ver. : 1.14.00
Prot. ver. :1337.24
ExtRom : 1.72.201
i would make sure the write proction switch on the sd card was not set
and if it were not locked
i would try the card in a sdcard reader or another device which used sd cards to check if they can write on it
if they could not i would "write" it off as a bad sdcard
and try another sdcard
I did it all SD is OK.
I tested with my MDA III and with PC I can write, read and erase no problem
The problem is Qtek 2020
cheers aykut
try a different sd card in the 2020 (pref an older card like a 512 meg or smaller...likely to be slower read/write) ... see what happens
if it works then it might be driver/OS related...what size, make and model is the card... there are known problems with larger faster cards
if it doesn't work then the phone has an issue (maybe flash a new rom, or check that the hardware switch that checks for write protect is'nt stuck)
hope that helps
Tim

Yes its ok...
1St read this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
then INSTALL HARD SPL V7.....(check out page 116, post 1160 to use the sd card method - I find it safer and have no sync problems unlike usin the pc). Just make sure you have more than 50% battery power if you use the sd card method.
Then you can install your new OS. just unrar/zip the file. sync your phone with active sync and double click on the RUU_Wrapper.exe file... Follow the prompts...
I prefer the sd card method, I find it safer. This is slightly different than installing Hard SPL using the sd card...
1). Format a 2GB or lower sd card fat32. Copy the RUU_signed.nbh onto it and rename to "hermimg.nbh".
2). Insert sd card in phone and go to bootloader (hold power button, OK button above flywheel and reset with stylus. Hold until you get to tri-colour screen).
3). It should recognise the Hermes flash file, just follow the prompts.
YOU NEED TO HAVE HARD SPL'ED YOUR PHONE TO DO THIS.
Happy Flashing & Welcome...

the only thing I think will erase any and all leftover corrupt data that is messing up your phone is task 29. these are things you need to do.
*if you haven't ever flashed a custom rom, and want to, do a hard spl(find the one specific to your phone) if your not going to flash a custom rom hard spl is not necessary, just find the neccesary stock rom package.
*Do a task 29 .http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=644781
*flash any rom.
*reformat your sd card to fat 32.( make sure to save any files you want before formatting as it will delete all info on card.
I hope you taking these steps help you bring your phone back.
DISCLAIMER!! I AM NOT RESPONSABLE FOR YOU MESSING UP YOUR PHONE, SO MAKE SURE YOU READ UP ON THESE STEPS I TOLD YOU SO YOU DON'T MAKE THINGS WORSE, GOOD LUCK
is it only programmes installed on your sd card that it cannot detect?
if so? It may be that your phone has created a new sd card? (in other words your old sd card may now show as sd card 1) If so then delete this new one and the old one will reappear.
Just a thought and if it does not work sorry.
