I have an XDAII that came with WM 1st ed, upgraded to WMSE with ROM 2.20.
After some trouble with that ROM I managed to downgrade to 2.06
When I soft reset, the Connection flash manager popup appears "Saved data is corrupted. System will erase all data to fix this error" Press yes or no.
Whatever I press the popup keeps showing after any Soft Reset.
I've taken my SD out and pressed "No" but that doesn't work.
The only time it worked to take out my SD was when I had ROM 2.20, but that ROM has some bugs so I downgraded.
Please help me. Thanx

Here's something weird...
I have an early model PH10A XDA II...
was on ROM 0.81.00 USA
Radio: 1.05.09
Protocol: 1337.10b
Date 8-11-03
I'm trying to upgrade it to the latest i-mate ROM.
I have gotten to the point where it says "The current software is now being erased....the update should take 30 minutes." but the first time...it gave me an error and it asked me to reboot the device and try again...since then...
....it stays there for hours with no update, no errors, or feedback of any kind. All I get on the RUULog.log is "17:24:10 Connection with USB"..then nothing happens...
I have tried re-boots, hard boots, taking the battery out and waiting a few mins, making sure the battery is charged, I'm on XP and the latest Activesync 3.7.1, also I kill the wces...exe. app and still sits there..
I have tried the O2 version, the UK-02-version, himalayaupgradeut_197.exe...all to no avail...
Any other things I should attempt? I'm bootloader 0.23....
I'm still scouring the groups to see if anyone had this problem..
thanks!
re:Weird problem with early model HTC XDA II with 0.23 btldr
Thanks to these posts I can safely say I found a partial solution that works. From other similar posting, it seems the early bootloader 0.23 was a pre-release demo and not for public consumption...so this USB upgrade process does not work for this version.
What worked for me using this bootloader version was a combination of the posting here http://en.pdamobiz.com/en/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=93&PN=1 - using their choice #3.
1. Download ROM 1[1].72 SD.rar (ROM 1.72)
2. Extract ROM 1[1].72 SD.rar with WinRAR, you will find two files; ntrw.exe and ROM.nb1
3. Put them in any folder; say c:\ROM\
4. Go to DOS command and the folder contains the files
5. Type C:\ROM>ntrw write ROM.nb1 E: (Assume your card reader drive is E as shown in the below figure. Wait until finish writing the rom.
6. Put SD card into your XDAII, go to bootloader mode (Power + Reset + Directional Pad) and follow instruction on your device screen.
However, for this bootloader it definitely wanted a RAW formatted SD card, not a card formatted by XP/2000 card readers. I also tried other devices format Treo 600, etc...but what did the trick was to do a save to SD command using the USB/Serial program ROMUPDATE.exe located somewhere on this board.
This allowed the card to work with the bootloader...
Once this was done...I was able to insert the card on the card reader (and get an error - ingnore since it was raw format)...and type step #5.
Once this was done I was able to boot the device again.
To note..most of the solutions posted here work for public release bootloaders above 1.0...but this was an early release bootloader...and this is how you get this one to work. NOT using USB.
Now the next task is ...how do I upgrade the bootloader?

for hard reset u need not to press the navigation key just press power and reset.

Hi all,
recently upgraded my i-mate with:
ROM version: 1.72.00wwe
Radio version: 1.14.00
and when trying to send sms, getting the following message: "the phone is not ready. wait 15 sec and try again".
The same message gettig when trying to make phone settings.
Does anyone have ever experienceâ the same problem, please help!
THNX!
Yup
You should really wait that long before you do anything to the phone. If you wait too little you'll end up wating more time as the timer seems tto reset whenever this message is shown. If you wait 30 seconds then everything is fine.
If you got this message after waiting several minutes when there might be something wroong with your flash. Mayby you should try a never radio stack e.t.c.
It takes a little getting use to, unfortunately.

Problem solved
If somebody is interested, I have solved my problem with reinstalling the upgrade. Empty PDA doing well until restoring backup. After back up, the same problem occurred. Then I did the following: hard reset and one by one installation of all programs that I had before. After each installation checking for any problem with sms. No problems so far.
Are yoy restoring a backup from a orevious version of WM2003? If so, this may be the cause of the problem. THe bacup process is known to restore a lot of system files along with your data and that can sometimes cause problems.
Steven
I had the same when I upgraded to 2.02 rom version, but left my radio version to 1.08.
I upgraded to 1.18 radio but I was left with a bootscreen only.
So I again burned the thing with 2.02 and 1.18 and everything was fine (except sms notifications)
I guess its an incompatiblity between your rom and radio somewhere...
This happened to me once... but what's really annoying is when you received a message, sometimes you'll see the pop-up message icon at the upper part (near the time and speaker). But on the today screen message, it doesn't appear to have a new message. Does this happen to you guys? This is really annoying...
i have a problem after the update to 1.72WWE
the problem with the SMS reports !
the device don't recieve them !
why?
Hey guys.... wanted to upgrade my M1000 with WM2005....
After upgrading my PDA freezes with the boot image.
When reinstalling using HimUpgradeUT I get this error;
Error 120: Country ID Error 4-4-O-N-N
I have changed it to my Dutch Orange provider; 20420, but still I can't do anything....
Any suggestions?
Solved!!!!
I read the following message from Ryan on the forum that solved my problem....hopefully someone can use this in the future....
Preform a Hardreset in the Registry and Storage format (press power+record+camera+reset pin for about 5 seconds and you should see a menu on the screen, by using the record button to select an option and camera button to change to YES. It should be NO, YES, YES and press ACTION button to save changes).
That did the trick for me....
Thanks!
Hi all,
Hope I may be of help to those who have GSM Error on their Wallabys. I have almost given up hope but I just searched the threads. This is basically what I did:
1. Download xda developers special rom and re-flash via sd card
2. Hard reset, press contact and calendar buttons (or a combination of both), volume button, and soft reset will bring you to the today homescreen (I cant remember exactly what buttons I pressed, I just pressed them all)
3. Re-boot phone, you will notice you still have no radio but you can now enter today homescreen (please take note the "start" menu is not there)
4. Align screen / stylus. You can do this by pressing Action Key then Calendar button.
5. Press Contact and Action Key (both) several times (I think around 20 times). You will hear clicking sound. This will bring out the "start" drop down menu. If it does not pop out, repeat again.
6. Download the correct RSU for your phone. Save into SD and copy to programs (same procedure as in wiki)
7. Run the RSU program, expect to fail at 1%. Re-boot. this time you will be able to active sync your phone again. (my wallaby did to my surprise)
8. I gave up on the RSU 4.16 (after countless tries) and I downloaded RSU 4.21 from xda-developers ftp (exe file) since I am now able to sync to my device.
9. Install RSU upgrade to your device, the phone will automatically re-boot.
10. Surprise! I was able to re-flash the RSU! (I think the problem is the RSU 4.16, try other 4.xx instead but be careful to use the correct version)
Now my Wallaby is up and running again! Thanks to xda-developers and Wiki and to Lumpi. There is no secret. I just did a lot of reading from the threads. It's all there. Good luck guys! Merry Christmas!
why ur wallaby resynched....
The reason it re-synched.... is because... when u go to the wallaby bootloader... and go into the GSM menu's (that allow u to tun off and on the gsm... and band tests... the key to it is there.... just reset those puppies at least 1nce.. then when u reset and boot... voila... it will sync,, but... I'm still stuck on that 1% error... rsu failed!! so.. wish me luck... oh.. btw.. when u get the 1% error it will not sync again until u repeat the process at the wallaby bootloader... so... any ideas anyone>> to get past the 1% error? I've read up and down ... searched left and right here... but no luck yet... I'm still trying what was posted here... so... wish me luck.... !!! oh... question what version is ur wallaby?? PW10A or B?

hello..
did you find a solution for 1% error? I have the same issue and I tried all night...and day...and nothing (
Reflash via SD
Hi morph751,
Firstly, thanks for this, I have now finally got my Wallaby back to a state where I can ActiveSync it, and actually run programs on the thing. Unfortunately, the RSUupgrade continually faults at the 1% mark both version 4.16 and version 4.21. The one step in your instructions that I did not follow, was the first "Download xda developers special rom and re-flash via sd card". The problem with doing this, is that when cold booting with the SD card in the slot the device simply hangs at the GSM Error screen. I have bootloader version 6.22, so I assumed this was due to the post 5.17 SD card locking. But the info and utility to bypass this doesn't seem to help either.
Is there something fundamental I am missing in terms of being able to boot the device into a mode that will allow me to flash it via SD?
By the way, when trying to flash the device via Program A, it fails with an error indicating that the power cable is not plugged into the device. The device is in the cradle, with USB connected and power connected to cradle.
OK, by folllowing the instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=245282, I have been able to sucessfully flash the device to XDA Developers special ROM image 1.2. But I still get Program B failing at 1%, using version 4.21. Has anyone managed to overcome this, if so how? Thanks in advance for any help.

These are possibly updated versions of your area's stock ROM, the 1.58 radio would be a version 1 ROM, where the 1.65 radio are the version 2 ROMs.
Does it have Hard SPL installed? If not, see if it will install it, then you can install any ROM.
There are other things that can be tried using MTTY, but I am no expert on that - there is a thread on it though.

Could you tell us what you did, I mean did you already tried a hard reset or something simular, and which rom you where using when the phone freeze.
Hard reset
You can also perform a hard reset (also known as a full reset). A hard reset should be performed only if a normal reset does not solve a system problem. After a hard reset, the device is restored to its default settings -‑ the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on your device will be lost. Only Windows Mobile® software and other pre-installed programs will remain.
To perform a hard reset
1. Press and hold the TALK and END buttons, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the left side of your device.
2. Release the stylus, but continue pressing the TALK and END buttons until you see the following message on the screen:
3. Release the TALK and END buttons, and then press ENTER on your device.
Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Please ensure any additional installed programs and/or user data have been backed up before a hard reset is performed.
Important If Encrypt files placed on storage cards is or was enabled before, then backup all files from the storage card before using Clear Storage, hard reset or updating the ROM system software. Otherwise you will no longer be able to access the encrypted files on the storage card. Use ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center to transfer files between your storage card and computer. After the procedure, copy your files back to the storage card.
