Hi, im interested in buying this device on handset only , but only want to have this for the digital tv capability, is there any way of hacking so you can receive this for free, because i dont want to open up a new contract with virgin ... and i dont want to get pay and goand pay a fiver a month for it either..
anyone know the score on this??
Not enough people have the phonefor the hackers to be interested yet. Which is why we have no free unlock yet either.
BBC 1 is free on the phone for the foreseeable future.
TV is a bit crap though, DAB radio is much better and it is a decent smartphone for very little money.
been looking into this myself, trying to find where the tv subscription details are stored, but not much luck, managed to find the tv channel and radio station tiny images for the program, and changed channel 4 shortcuts to just the channel 4 logo, easiest way i found to do the tv for free on payg is using any old virgin sim cards (got about 4 a while back when they were free thru virgin site, so worth keeping ur eyes peeled for them, and when ur subscription runs out, chnange the sim to the other one, activate subscription for tv then swap back again, and then that will give u another 90 days free as it will be the first time its been registered for tv services, that will give u thirty days then swap again when that month subscription runs out, then again for another thirty then again for another thirty to the full 90, then try and get hold of another, and repeat again, meaning u will only need a sim every three months, the spare sim fits perfectly inside the back cover of phone too so can be left in there until needed, that will work until virgin gives the first ninety days for free, must be someway to hack into where it is stored properly tho.
Unlock Lobster
Heres the trick
Buy the phone
Get a FREE sim card from Virgin
Put £30 Credit on (You get £25 free when you buy the phone)
Call 789 and ask for unlock code
Get letter in 5 days time with unlock code
Tried and tested 3 times :-D
Also, the free sim cards definatly re-activate the 90 day TV Trial :-D
Just a quick one in regards to this post.
Another option is to call customer services and let them know you have been having problems with the signal and havent really had chance to test it 9/10 they will give u another month free. (which i have done)
or could try and complain that they are shutting down the service and you bought the phone for the tv (i bought it for the radio and its great) and you feel let down having paid out for the phone and fingers crossed you might get it free until the tv packs in.(which i will try soon)
Phew appologies for the bad grammer but speed typing at work
ciou
Love the work that goes on here guys, the good thing about buying my tg01 is i found this forum.
1st Tg01 exchanged due to no one being able to hear me on phone.
2nd TG01 exchanged due to crashing during calls
just got my 3rd was installing my apps from card, install failed and now cant detect my card anymore (pc or phone)
back on the phone to orange, as this only day 64 of contract.
Memory card supplied with this device is well known to be complete and utter crap, but you know that right?
I am hazarding a guess that those of us using this device daily have replaced the memory card supplied with something of higher quality, or different make
well after 40 mins of blood, sweat and tears. i finally got them to credit my account with £20 to buy another.
My mrs is a manager in a call centre so know what buttons to press to get a reaction.
Its your right to know the personal extension number of the person you are talking to etc so you can make a complaint.
anyway will have a scout about amazon, or if anyone knows someone better to buy from. im in ok btw.
thx in advance.

Up to you, all of them are overpriced for anything over 8gb, amazon do a Sandisk Mobile Ultra 8gb card that is class 6 for £17.99 including postage
I bought an kingmax 8 GB card on 20 Euros 3 month ago and had no problems with it. Anyway, it operates on HTC Magic, not on TG01

Ouch that sucks you really should have made a backup copy of you SD card before formatting it. If you are talking about the Transformer movies if you are lucky you might can get someone to compress and e-mail you the movies. Or you could try going to your local T-Mobile store and see if they can take the SD card out of a new HD2 and copy the movies from it to your SD card. Last option is if your HD2 is still under warranty you could try to get them to send you a replacement SD card by telling them it is faulty, the replacment would have the movies on it.
Edit: You can also try to find a torrent site to download them from.
you wont find links to them on this site, they are warez as soon as they leave the sd card, , however they deffinately are available as mentioned above as torrents or from rapidshare and the like.

I don't think T-Mobile stores carry the HD2 anymore.

How about a data recovery program, "Recuva" (free) has saved many files after a format for me, if quick scan doesn't work, try full scan, takes some time, but works for restoring deleted data.
In so cal, the HD2's were taken out of inventory a month ago. After my phone froze, they tell me to come into their corporate store for an in store warranty exchange. Only to find out not 1 store in so cal had one.
T Mobile may have the best customer service, but their knowledge is going to sh!t.
Ask 3 different employees the same question, and you'll probably get 3 different answers. My experience in the last 2 years from being a 10 year customer.
scariola so did tmobile ever fixed your frozen phone?

Yes, luckily.
Touch screen stopped responding randomly, went completely out within 2 days.
Called T Mobile store(same 1 that's always solved my problems) employee said to bring my phone into the store, they will swap it out for me.
Go to the store, ask about the in store warranty exchange for HD2, guy smiles at me, "we took those out of our stores a month ago."
?? I was just told to bring in my HD2 because you can swap it out. They say call customer care.
Call customer care, tell them I've ran through troubleshooting, updating stock rom, same touch screen problems. They say they'll ship it express, waive the fee, and it'll be there friday.
Friday comes and goes, Saturday ask them where my package is. They say they don't know, I say thats ridiculous. 4 calls and 4 different employees later, they still have no idea where my phone is, even though it DID process.
I ask them what can they do, they remove the shipping charge for express, which also was going to automatically be credited once the phone DID ship. Okay, -20 dollars off my bill.
I plead come sunday they overnight me my phone, they said FRIDAY I would have it, they guaranteed it because I called them at 7am monday, before cut-off, but alas, they do not overnight shipping, only Assurion(phone insurance does). All this other jargon about not being able to double process an order till after 7 days of initial order. Utter BS.
Needless to say, Monday morning, theres my package with OVERNIGHT delivery on the label. Flashed the phone back to stock, swapped it out and I'm back in business.
Called them to have them credit the week I did not have my phone, 13 more dollars off. Login to my account, see that the other 20 dollar express charge came off.
So, they paid me 33 dollars in the end, + free OVERNIGHT Shipping(which they said they couldn't do) for an HD2 that I bought secondhand off craigslist. Luckily the warranty transfers over, mines still good till Oct. 2011.
Really, got lucky, who would think the warranty is transferrable, thought I was screwed.
scariola you were pretty lucky. I had the same issue as SharkBait Ha, i accidentally formatted my sd card with all my default folders and Transformers Movies, so then i called HTC 1(888)356-2375. i told a representative from HTC that my SD Card gave me a lot of issues. within 3 min they told me that there where sorry about the SD Card and i was going to get a new SD Card within 3-4 days. sure enough 3 days when by and i received a new 16GB Samsung Class 2.
Right this is ****ed up first off.... Im currently on a 24m contract for my Galaxy S2 which has been running now for 17 months... I noticed the other day that instead of a payment of £40 from my bank they had in fact taken out £100 & again 2 days ago they have taken out another £100..
I rant them up & said WTF are you doing taking out £200 when its suppose to have been 2x £40 = £80... They person on the phone pissed about for a while & then said this...
"due to you not going over your £40 for the first 15 months we have taken an extra payment out twice to cover the cost of the phone" yeah & I said a few choice swear words & lost my temper a slight bit....
anyway to my question....I thought id explain myself first so's not to get flamed for what im about to ask....so far they have had a whopping £600 + the extra £200 & I aint paying them anymore.... they can bollocks...
I want to know if there is anyway I can stop them from blocking my phone as ive now cancled my DD from the bank so in a few weeks when they realise I imagine they will block it.... & before anyone says something stupid like you only have a couple of months left id like to remind you that ive already paid £800 for this phone + nothing is stopping them from taking out another 100 in 4 weeks time....
can I turn the phone off for a time, flash a custom rom & kernel or something to stop it from being blocked......

the best thing for u would be to take a legal course rather than doing something silly and get stuck up. u can consult a legal adviser for the same.
No you cannot because they are blocking the sim card then the imei of the phone.
Both items are not in your control, they are controlled by your phone company servers.
You do not want get on the black list with your imei then no cell phone company in the UK will register your phone on their serevers.
Ive already asked about advise They said there within there rights to do what they have done.. which to be fair is ****ing nothing short of crap...so that means I still need to pay for the phone for another 5 months.... which will take the money they have had off me to £1000 +
Which has absolutely nothing to do with the 'technical' side of phones (flashing/rooting/roms/apps/etc/etc/etc) which XDA is all about. Disputes with your provider do not warrant a thread on a phone forum. Talk to consumer affairs/telecommunications industry ombudsman or equivalent in your country.
There is *nothing* you can do to stop your phone being IMEI blocked, all you can do is go to your carrier to try and have that changed.
What do you mean "because you didn't go over £40".When I got my 1st mobile contract 15 years ago it was £20,but £2 for billing,£3 for non DD payments and £3 for picture messaging-and would have been a lot more if I had called mobile numbers instead of landlines.
I can't really see how they would be expecting you to use other stuff that costs as the contracts are different now.
You should contact a supervisor at your carrier for a solution and do what mistahbungle says about citizens advice beaureu if you don't get a goods outcome. You could also go onto the carriers forums and kick up a stink there.Maybe they've Facebook/twitter pages as they don't like getting slagged off on them.
And for your phone and package would work out at about a grand anyhow.......

Locked as what you are asking is against the law (or the methods involved).
I've seen a few threads now with people having bad reception and trading in there phone for warranty issues to get a better signal, etc. So I thought Id post this under general with its own thread so hopefully anyone who runs into this situation can see.
So like the rest Ive had horrible service compared to my buddies N3, and my wifes 5s, I took my phone in to an authorized retailer they checked out the SIM card and for whatever reason my phone running totally stock rom still reverts back to CDMA and when it does connect to 4G its only brief and not that great and overall speeds are slow, despite trying out different modems, same result. Called Verizon up and was put in touch with tier 2 tech support. Which I see alot of Verizon bashing but I talked to 2 guys from the Atlanta call center and I will say they were awesome to work with, however they could not issue a warranty replacement. They tried 2 or 3 times and got their manager involved and had no problem trying to get me a new phone, however they found when there computer wouldn't allow the transaction to go through, that earlier this month of July when Verizon killed off there Device Payment Option, NOT THE EDGE PROGRAM, BUT the DEVICE PAYMENT PROGRAM that there online and call centers lost there support of being able to do anything to help people who used this program, such as me someone who wanted an early upgrade but was locked in for another year or people trying to keep unlimited. I live just over 2 hours from a corporate store so this sucks for me, and now knowing any future problems Ill have to drive to get help because for some reason Big Red decided this was the best way to go.
So I just wanted to share in case anyone else has this problem, or was in the same boat. Im not on a contract anymore, not on Edge, own the phone outright, and can't even get Verizon to help out on the warranty now. UGH if it wasnt for them being the only service provider where I work!
Contact Samsung. This presumes you still have original proof of purchase. They will replace the phone. They are the actual warantor for the phone.

I am under a monthly payment plan (not edge) and called about my signal issues and dropped calls. The rep stated that because I am on the payment plan I have to exchange it in a store. He made the appropriate notes in the account and I will check out the store in the next day or so for the replacement.
I am on the same plan and had to do the same thing. When I did finally get them to try and replace it, they made me go to the store. Went in the store and told him to check the account notes and walked out of there in 10 minutes with a replacement ordered.
As I said I live a bit from going to the actual city that has a corporate store hopefully Ill make it over there this next week, although they never tod me about making notes I hope its hassle free.
A quick question for those of you who got a replacement from the store, how'd they ship it? The guy on the phone told me that as long as it was placed before 4:30-5pm EST they'd overnight it, howd they do you guys going through instore?
