My bootloader says it is connected by USB....

Have you unchecked "Allow USB Connection" in the ActiveSync connection settings?

yes.... I sure did.
What is your Operating System? Vista or XP?
For Vista you need to install additional drivers.
have you pressed ok and power and reset at the same time to enter bl mode?
Also try closing the ActiveSync program on your desktop...goto task manager and kill wcescomm.exe process. After that, try opening the mtty program.
Maybe you have wrong versionof MTTY which happen to me before. Get the good MTTY in this package;

I get this sometimes. I didn't know if it was because I am running it under a virtual windows environemtn on a Mac. What I do to get mtty to recognize my port is this:
1. Start ActiveSync
2. In ActiveSync press "connect" or search for connected devices or something like this (since you are in BL mode, AS won't see the device, but it will poll all the ports, effectively making the USB port visible.)
3. While AS is searching the ports, launch mtty and choose selection box for port.
4. Voila' The USB port is usually visible.
If that doesn't work on the first try, a few more tries usually gets it working.
vista problem?
I suspect you are running Vista. You need to rollback to an older wm5 driver in order to "see" the port.

i am trying to check my hermes CID

You are getting this error because you are trying to acces the device which is powered on. Reset the device where you see the tricolor screen [Bootloader screen] http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Elf_Resets and then run mtty.exe.
try going to windows mobile >mobile device settings > and press the scroll under allow connections to the following . put the same port in wmd as in mtty. like(com 6 on both) hope this helps
mtty

install activesync if u don't have it and then uncheck "usb connection" in activesync.(right click on the icon on the task). u also have to end "rapimgr.exe" and "wscecomm.exe" in task manager. hope this helps
Apologies but have scoured all the threads and cannot seem to get to a straight answer!
Have a tocuh-dual which I attempted to update to the latest ROM from HTC and now I have the "tri-colour screen of death!) and can get no further,
The screen shows in thered band - RUUNBH | NIKI100 | SPL-1.16.0000 | CPLD-4. The white band shows "serial" and when I connect the USB lead it shows "USB".
But the PC does not recognise it at all and when I try to load a ROM or run MTTY nothing is found. How can I run a program on the touch if the PC will noit see it through the USB connection?
Any ideas?
Does your PC have active Sync installed? I had a similar problem when I installed a broken rom that would not boot up. I did a device reset using the stylus in the whole next to the USB, while holding the camera and power button to boot into the tri color screen. Once hear i plugged in my USB cable and ran a ROM install.
I hope this helps.
uncheck allow usb-connection in Active Sync
run mtty connect by USB
type "boot" without quotes.
same problem
i have got the same problem and can't get out of the tri-colour.
I try to connect with mtty and it says usb port cannot open. my pc can recognise it and in da phone it shows usb though, i don't really know why its not taking. if i type "boot" in mtty what will happen? cos when i click on com3 its opening but when i write "boot" nothing happening even with boot. any ideas guys? how to solve the problem????
Regards
u have to unckeck allow usb connection in active sync! then u can connect with mtty

HI !
I have an HD² with official Operator's ROM and my HD² never sync with my computer.
I want to know if it's possible to Flash everything without any sync (only by SD)?
Thanks a lot for my LEO
settings menu all settings connections connections usb to pc, untick "faster data". restart the pc, restart the phone.
it should now sync fine.
Thanks for the Answer, but I've already do this and the results is the same.
Sorry about my English cause I'm French
Go into Bootloader Mode (hold Volume button down while switching on the phone). You will get a tri colour screen with the word 'Serial' at the bottom of it. Plug in the USB calbe and it should change to 'USB'. If this happens then you can run HSPL and then ROMs - just ignore the conditions about making an ActiveSync connection prior to running.
I've already try this
But not exactly how you say.
I've plug the in the USB calbe when the HD2 was Off, and after loading the bootloader.
And nothing was happen.
Juste the 3 colors and the SPL version but never "USB" or "Serials", serial appears only if I don't plug the cable.
Load it into Bootloader Mode, then connect the USB cable - and see if the 'Serial' changes to 'USB'. If it doesn't, then you have a hardware problem (phone or cable or computer).
I think it's a Phone probleme.
Cause I've a Samsung wave and I havn't any problem with the same cable and the same computer.
Also I can't flash my HD²...

I've already Try on another computer.
I've try with my seven OS, and with XP OS.
The problem is the same.
But when I plug the USB cable, the computer says "unknown Device" and it's the same on different computer with different cable...
I think my HD2 mother card is probably broke for this.
