Dismantle the phone? - HTC Startrek

I have dirt/oil stains under the cover of LCD... send in for repairs of other problems, and requested for them to open and clean my screen.
They(Dopod service centre) told me the screen cannot be dismantled. Have to change to a new screen!
Anyone can give a step by step on dismantle?

[Q] Screen replacement, flashing and calibration

I have a problem with the cracked screen of my Xperia Active (st17i). Since the repairing cost the service centre will be more than half the price of a new phone, I’ll most probably need to order it and replace it myself.
I haven’t done this before so I’ll need all the advice you can give me both on the hardware and the software part. If anyone have done it before or knows how to do it all tips are welcome.
On the hardware part:
In ebay I found replacement modules including both the screen and the digitizer, BUT not the metal frame to which they are attached. For reference you can see the attached photos. My question here is:
HOW or CAN I disassemble the LCD and the digitizer from the metal frame of the phone at home? They seem to be glued firmly to each other.
On the software part:
I understand that changing the hardware is only part of the problem. If I’m not mistaken after that I’ll have to flash the firmware and calibrate the new screen. The guy from the service centre explained that if I do not find the correct version to flash with the damage may be even worse.
So my questions here are two:
1) Can anyone point which is the correct version to flash (and instructions)?
2) How or Can I calibrate the screen?
.

Hit thanks if I helped you in any way.
Thanks for the link. I was looking at this topic before, but I am not sure whether it is about solving software-related touch-screen problems and if it is applicable in my case (screen replacement).
Does anyone know whether is it really necessary to flash the phone at all?
I also found an article online on screen calibration for xperia active and xperia mini. Here is the link.
It says there I should install ETS software with SETool. I have no idea what this is or how to do that. Can anyone help?

water damage

The seal of the mini usb port leaked and now my tablet has waterdamage. When I look at the seal more closely I see that it fails to close completely and it comes out a bit by itself. Does anyone have any experience with sony' s return policy? They said that they have a 30 day rturn policy, and I applied for it because there are some dead pixels but I don't know what happens when they see the water damage (indicator turned red). I am really a bit disappointed...
Well you are covered under the manufacturer's warranty, so you might be ok... Do you not want to keep the tablet?

I had a problem with my headphone port not closing completely. So i did not dare dunk it. So i sent it back to Sony. Waiting for my replacement to arrive in the next couple of days.

I had the same issue. I couldn't get it to close fully by pressing directly on it. I could press it closed, but after stopping it always went back to having a gap of around half a mm on one end.
I finally managed to keep it fully closed by pushing the end from that side a bit to the left as well. Not sure if that is design or not.
I cant close it fully no matter how much i try. Thats why i sent it back. Hoping it was a defective set and the next one i get is in good condition.
Will update when i get a replacement.

Wasn't this the same issue Sony had with the XTS? Maybe they need to give up on the whole "Water-proof" BS !

I thought it was completely closed, it looked completely closed but when I turned the tablet it wasn't. I tried to close it a few times and than noticed the seal opening but it was already too late then of course
Have you spoken to Sony?

Good to hear, waiting to hear back if the back of mine sticking and unsticking is "faulty or not". Then I'll be making sure I get a full refund.
Got my replacement yesterday. I've tried fiddling about the flaps and there seems to be no issues with this one so far. Will update if anything changes.

Did you contact Sony directly or the store you got it from (if you didn't get it from the Sony online store)? Some stores may have their own (incorrect) interpretation of the warranty and will refuse to fix it to reduce their own expenses. Go back and refer to the IP57 rating and how this clearly is covered by the warranty (bring the manual and cite the relevant parts if you feel like it's necessary). Bringing the warranty text might also boost your confidence if you have to convince the store manager.
I don't know which country you're in, but check with the local laws. For example, in Sweden there's a law stating that electronics have a 2 year "reklamationsrätt" (literally translated "right to make a complaint" and it's basically like a warranty; if the store refuses replacement or compensation of properly used products they go on a national public blacklist which also details why they went there). In the US you could probably sue them for false advertising (IP57 rating). These would take a lot of time, but since in this case your tablet was actually defective you shouldn't have any major problem.

It was an authorised sony service center. I also contacted sony care and they all tell me the same thing that the warranty is void because the tablet is water damaged. They don't want to accept that their device is defective.
The service center gave me the tablet back after 3 days without even trying to repair it. When I looked at it carefully, 1 more indicator was red and water was coming out of it(suggesting they tried to check it by putting it in water). But they denied doing anything like that and I don't have anything to proove it.

Did you show it to any friends/coworkers/family members just before sending it in/receiving it? I'm not a lawyer but it sounds to me like it's time to contact one. Take a picture of it and upload somewhere where we can see it, hopefully a Sony rep will see it if it escalates far enough. Again, the tablet is advertised as IP57 rated so Sony will have a hard time proving it isn't waterproof. If you have any witnesses of the original water damage then that would be great.
Keep the service records, get the service center to print any service logs they have on it and most importantly save all of the existing paperwork in one place, preferably with copies in a separate place to show people. If this comes down to a court case they may want the original papers to confirm that they are indeed authentic.
I wish I could say that everything is clear cut in this case but if the service center dealt additional damage to it then I'd strongly suggest you seek legal advice. I've dealt with dishonest support centers in the past, but none that has caused trouble in this way. In the last case (a defective graphics card) I didn't have any evidence but I could show beyond reasonable doubt that they were likely trying to scam me (they sent me a replacement from another brand while they suddenly had 1 in stock of the brand I sent in). They caved in and replaced the card with the one of the same brand without saying much (they probably realized they'd lose in court).
Make it a habit to take close up and well lit pictures of damages, in this case it would still help you since it's important documentation when you contact a lawyer (email him/her the pictures). Pictures may strengthen your case even if they seem to state the obvious. While you're at it, try to find where and why the water entered the tablet after taking the first batch of pictures and take pictures of what you believe to be the cause too.
Whatever you do, don't settle for some middle ground (store credit of less than the original value, promises to try their best with Sony, etc.). There are some tricky things they can do to try to rid themselves from responsibility, if it's verbal communication bring a tape recorder (they have to be aware of the recording (legally obtained) for it to be valid evidence in some countries, US included but Sweden excluded as Swedish courts also allow illegally obtained evidence although you may have to separately take responsibility for the illegal part, check with your local laws). A lawyer may help you with this part as well, both with the actual communication and showing the service center you're not going to back down.
Well this post went on a little longer than I expected but I wish you the best of luck in dealing with these guys and getting your tablet fixed.

Good, now you have pictures of the current state (on second thought maybe you should take a picture of the undamaged port too, just to prove it isn't broken now in case you send it in again and it comes back with all indicators triggered) and witnesses to the original damage. I'd say get a lawyer ready just in case and confront the service center with witness accounts (try to get it in writing too). They will have to decide if they are going to fix it or not and is so on what basis.
At this point you will either (1) get it fixed and ask for a written and signed statement of what damage it has and that they will get it back to a condition where it functions as advertised or (2) ask for a written and signed statement of what damage it has and why they refuse to fix it under warranty. If they refuse to fix it and refuse to write a statement then ask why they won't write a statement and then you write down what they reply. Also ask them what damage it has and why they refuse to fix it under warranty and write down that reply too if they don't at this point.
This way you will have their statement in writing either way (though with their signature should be preferred). If they don't refuse to fix it under warranty then have them confirm that it will function as advertised when you get it back (get this in writing too). The formulation of the questions are important and absolutely must include the word warranty. Have your lawyer help you, I'm not sure my formulations are bulletproof.
This is about as much advice I dare to give without the backing of a lawyer education, but seriously do get a lawyer if they continue to behave this way. Again, I wish the best of luck.

I can't tell you which part exactly you need to replace...
I am having the same problem here I also dropped it in muddy water but phone is fine and working it's a part of the display unit
I took it to the service centre here and they told me they would have to replace the whole display unit as it was pointless to just stick back the metal rim or ring or whatever and warranty also became pointless I was told it would cost me 5000 rupees....
Even though my display in in tact and still responsive they told me I had no option but to replace the whole display unit lolzz looks like it's time for me to get a new phone...

2. Most of peoples reported there were china screens not original at eBay. Try to buy them from Repairs Universe, Etradesupply, Fixit, Amazon, etc.
3. Try to ask seller for original pictures and see is there LIGHT GUIDE? (LIGHT GUIDE is responsible to light up your capacitive buttons).
4. For more suitable purchase try to buy that screen which your phone had already (i.e. LCD Version: Sharp or Sony, so you have to dissemble your phone)

PRECAUTIONS / IMPORTANT THINGS:
1. Not to put your phone in fast boot, to Disable it “Settings > Battery > Untick fast boot option”.
2. Don’t try to swap lcd while phone is on during checking new screen as it can destroy your GRAPHIC IC . So better way to checking LCD is :
i. Remove battery > wait for 5min > connect LCD flex > connect battery > Power On
ii. To Power off your phone “Connect your phone to PC/Laptop > and use adb reboot –p ”
3. Try to use same version of LCD as it your phone have.
4. Don’t uses Liquid or glue as they can put dark spot on LCD, always use 3M Adhesive Sticker Tape.
5. For Capacitive Light there should be LIGHT GUIDE in LCD + DIGITIZER.
6. Charge your battery to 100%.

TIPS:
1. in case Your Phone is booting up (i.e. LED red/green light, capacitive button, volume button working) but LCD doesn't work then try another LCD if still there is problem, then maybe you have to sync it. If that also doesn't work then it means GRAPHIC IC had been destroyed. So, you have to solder the 220 in Graphic IC, and then it will work.
2. Don’t Do It yourself, I will recommend you to buy LCD + DIGITIZER or LCD + DIGITIZER + FRONT HOUSING and go to that local Mobile Repairing shop those have knowledge about HTC.
3. Tell them the above important things so they would also be aware of this stuff.

Bubbels inside screen in every corner

Recently I found some weird little air bubbles in the corners off my Nexus 9. I don't have any screen protector so that isn't it. It has never repared or replaced before, it's still original.
The air bubbles show up on the left side in both corners and are around 2mm big. In the corners on the right side are also starting to show some bubbles but they are hard to see. I took some pictures, to show you.

New update about the weird little bubbles in the edge of my screen.
I send my Nexus back to the shop and one week later I was called that they replaced some parts and that the problem was solved. I didn't know what parts where replaced but definitely the screen, back cover and the volume buttons have been replaced. It looks brand new and maybe it is another Nexus.
Here are some old photos because the old URL is broke .

Let me know of the URL works now ow and of you have more questions, please let me know.

I also have the same problem in opposite corners. Did they charge you for the repair? If yes, how much?

It still had 2 months warranty on it. After the repair it looked brand new. They replaced the screen and cover. Honestly I think they have me a refurbished one.
Hope that it helped you and Good luck

Did you contact HTC directly, or did you contact Google, or did you just send your N9 back to the place you bought it from?
I bought my N9 from Amazon in Dec. 2014, so I'm not sure who to contact, and I'm not even sure I've got a 2 year warranty.

I brought it back to the place where I bought it and got it returned in 8 days.
I have 2 bubbles at top left corner and 1 at top right corner. Can't fix
All you need to fix it is bring to repair. I think it's look like glue or plastic just heat and melt down.
PS: same problem and in my country had no store accept to fix it. I think they don't have screen to replace it
Got it too - a bubble in top right corner slowly growing. Do not have either google or htc representative nearby, what am I supposed to do?
Did anyone get anywhere with this? My Nexus 9 has the same issue.
I contacted Google but as my N9 is over 2yo, they won't help me. All they would do is put me through to HTC.
I spoke with HTC and they kept implying I mistreated it or got it wet (I didn't!) Their only solution was to send it in for inspection. That's going to cost $AUD49.50 if I don't proceed with the repair.
I'm disappointed. With several cases like this, I'd say it's some kind of manufacturing defect.

I have it too. Guess I'm just going to have to live with it. I replaced the screen on my n7 (2013), it was fairly easy (for my first time doing something like that). This one looks a little harder, and more expensive. If it gets too bad I'm going to break down and do it. Not too many good tablets out there right now. This one isn't bad with custom ROM on it. Not great, but not bad.

This is an old thread but my Nexus 9 has started developing bubbles over the last couple of months, and in the last couple of weeks I've gone from one to three in the top RH corner (just above the battery symbol) and another small one a bit over to the left. Has anyone tried any fixes like applying heat/pressure or anything? I've just gotten to the point where I'm relatively happy with its performance and still can't find a worthy replacement, so I'd like to keep it going for as long as possible.
I got mine repaired, it was still under warranty. But is came back after a year or so.... Never tried to fix it again after that.
same here, 2 bubbles growing...
I just ignore it as it didnt effect the display...
Update:
I found out that the bubbles will move from time to time.
Im assuming that there a bubble trap between digitizer and lcd...

seems i am late to the party ... mine was in the tip right corner and now its moved an inch left ...and i see 2 new ones on the edge ... a manufacturing defect ... seems the corners of the nexus screen by design are such that its sucking in air and the glue closes in from behind forming a bubble ... and further stress on the screen (like tucking the nexus 9 in between clothes for instance while travelling) seem to trigger this movement which in air in between the screen and digitizer bonding ...

There's no solution to fix it other than replacing the LCD panel....
I have a couple of the Nexus 9 tablets and almost all of them have what looks like bubbles around the screen. However these are not bubbles. The optically clear adhesive that the manufacturer used on these tablets shrinks over time. What you're seeing is actually vacuum pockets. There is no air in these "bubbles" at all. Although disturbing, they are just cosmetic and should not affect the operation of the tablet.
