Atom Life goes OFF while in Standby mode. - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom Software Upgrading

Hi All,
Do anyone here face this problem? The device automatic switch off while in standby mode. This happen to me after 1 month of uses. When the device when off, it was very difficult to power on back. Pressing the on/off button wont fully boot the device, only to go off again after you see the O2 welcome screen. Only by soft reset work.
The last time happen to me, sofe reset don't works. I have to connect it to power supply and press the soft reset button.
One of my friend also facing this problem, bring back to the service center and was told it was battery issue.
Regards,
Ric

Hard reset the device. And then disable the O2 Connect completely by going to O2 Connect->Options->stop o2 connect service.....

You mean by disable O2 connect can prevent the device from auto shutoff?
I can try that, but I don't think so it is the cause of the problem.

I did too but ...............

I have same problem as stated. I did as you suggest. BUT now working.

So, even the latest model suffers the same problem as the first Atom.
We also have this problem, and it is due to battery holder problem, when the terminals does not come in contact with the unit properly. Atom users have done a lot of things already - clean the terminals with alcohol using cotton swabs, put some paper support to tighten the battery in place, etc.
I'm just surprised that even the latest model for the Atom series still suffer the same problem.

I had the same problem with WM5 rom. But after upgrading to WM6, I never have this problem anymore. Which rom are you using?

My XDA has stopped turning on after a day :-(

I bought my xda in working condition a few days ago from somebody I know. It's a month old, and worked fine for a day. I left it on while I went out and when I got back it was off. I assumed the batteries were dead and placed it in the charger.
When I got back, it was still dead. It wouldn't turn on. I have not tried to flash or tamper with my device in any way...
Here's what i've discovered so far:
- Soft and hard resets do nothing.
- When in the cradle, the charge lights do not come on.
- Bootlogger works, so the screen is alright and there is power to the device.
- I don't quite understand the stylus in the sim card issue, and how it damages the device. Since it's been broken, I have put the stylus in and pressed down the switch (I was told to and even the woman in the O2 shop did it when i took it in! lol). But as far as I can tell the reason you're not meant to is because you can break the switch - however the phone will only go into bootlogger mode with the switch depressed (the sim card door closed) so I assume that means I haven't broken the switch in any way. Also, I didn't touch the switch before this trouble started.
- I can connect with my device via activesync and browse the windows folder, etc.
So as far as I can tell - it isn't the sim card slot switch, it isn't the screen, it isn't the cradle, it isn't the battery, and there is no problem as far as connecting with my computer.
But my device still won't turn on when I press the on/off switch and hard and soft resets have no effect.
Please help me/give me suggestions/tell me if it's truly french connectioned so i can go batter the guy I got it from for my money.
This phone cost me 2 months wages and I waited forever and drove 600 miles to get it. And it stopped working after a day. It's proper depressing lol.
Oh alos, if the phone is fc'd, will the factory be able to repair it for me if I pay (i'm not sure I have the receipt for guarantee). If anyone knows, thanks.
Thanks a lot in advance;
Mat.
i don't understand how you can browse the windows folder via active sync if you cannot turn it on.
have you tried a different sim card. ie was your 'friend' using it on o2 or something different.
the switch beside the sim card slot is a detector ie if the door is open - no power if the door is closed - power. possibly if the switch is broken - no power.
as to a factory repair - pass. it depends on the damage.
ian
cheers - but the switch doesn't seem to be broken - because i can boot into bootlogger mode with the door shut, but not with it open. which suggests to me that the switch is alive and well. i've no idea what's wrong with it. gonna have to be a factory repair unless flashing the rom from bootlogger mode might help... that's the only thing i can see might be wrong with it.
There's no sim card in it, i haven't bought one for it yet. I don't know what network he used it on, but the phone came from europe.
I can browse the folder via activesync on my pc - when i go into the connect mode on bootlogger.

this is the answer to your problem, no sim card no power, if the 'phone is unblocked then any will do if not try any anyway, you never know.

phone always worked before without a sim card. i'll try it though, thanks.

no mate, still not working with a sim card - the phone is unlocked..
:-( thanks anyway;

What is being displayed on the screen during your resets soft or hard (details please)?
You say the bootloader is working, Right! So do us a favor and check your GSM and report what it says.
To get to the GSM settings "while in bootloader mode" just press the Calender button.
Looking forward to your reply,
sorry, i'm slightly technically challenged, but i'm getting there.
if i take the device from its cradle and perform a soft reset, the green and red hang up/answer lights come on together for a few seconds and then go off. nothing else happens and i cannot turn on the device. if i try to, nothing happens at all.
If I perform a hard reset, aboslutely nothing at all happens except that I have to put the device back into its cradle and take it out again if i want to do a soft reset. If i do a soft reset straight after a hard reset, it does nothing (the lights don't even come on).
if i load bootloader, it says "GSM ERROR" where it says "GSM OK". I assume this is because I have no sim card in my device.
Well, i'm finding out things as I write -it seems to behave differently every time. I put it in bootloader mode to find out my gsm settings, and placed it in the cradle whilst it was loading... and it said "GSM OK". I soft resetted, the lights came on for a couple seconds and i'm back to where i started.
Confused!! Thanks for all your help though
mat.
note: for some reason, after taking the device from its cradle or placing it in, after a period of about a minute, the device chimes. i've no idea why or what it's trying to tell me. (the red and green hang up/call lights also come on for a second when this happens)
alright, update...
if i go into bootloader mode, and at the screen where it says "wait" i put the device into the cradle, and take it straight out again, the device says "GSM OK" (maybe it confuses it.)
Otherwise, the device says "GSM ERROR".
Mat
i managed to get onto the flash menu, and copy "BOOT TO SD", and then i went into bootloader mode and downloaded it from the sd card and it said succesful, cold reset to complete...
my device is now in the cradle, the buttons are doing nothing when pressed and the call.hangup lights are permanently on.
if i press the calendar button, a menu comes up saying...
UTLITIES
===GSM OFF===
DEBUG/CALI.
GSM TURN ON
GSM TURN OFF
GSM RESET
GSM 900
GSM 1900
GSM 900 / 1800
GSM RECAL
GSM NORMAL
this is really confusing me. i think i need to take this thing to O2.
yes? no?
thanks again;
Mat.
"GSM Error" seems to indicate there's something trashed with your radio stack. I had this same problem this week with a failed update to the T-Mobile 6.24 radio stack. Even with no SIM card inserted, you should still get "GSM OK". The only time I saw "GSM ERROR" was while the radio stack was hosed.
Try this: First, take out your SIM card, and in the menu you describe above, choose TURN GSM OFF. Then, reflash the ROM via the SD/bootloader method (look for the thread in the ROM Updates forum for help). I recommend the 4.00.05 ROM (Windows Mobile 2003 from 02). Once that's done, you need to get it to boot into the OS. With a corrupt radio stack, this can take 15-20 minutes or more. Do a soft reset, then let it sit for at least 30 minutes or so, and see if it boots into the OS.
Once you are in the OS, you should be able to connect via activesync, and re-flash your radio stack. I don't know what carrier you're on, but I'd suggest getting the latest radio stack update for your carrier's network, and not using a radio stack for another network.
It's a long shot, but I think if you can successfully re-flash your radio stack, you might be back in business.
Good luck!
JoshB
you are god mate  .
First thing i'm gonna try is squaling like a girl for somebody else (O2 or an independant company) to fix it for me. Failing that, i'll try your method and anything else anybody suggests... Failing that i'll tell people it's some kind of space age weapon and hold up a bank for the money for a new one
here's what technical support said:
"It doesn't sound like anything I've come across before in the past. What I would suggest is for you to call the XDA warranty line anyway on the off chance that they can give you some advice."
Thanks a lot;
Mat.
NEWSFLASH! Took my phone from the cradle, put it back in and the orange charger light came on... This is weird as i've done nothing to it. It seems to be recovering bit by bit as if it got wet and is drying out or something... but it didn't get wet. I hope this helps somebody, someone else must be having the same problem. I read about one other guy who's phone has gone tits up, and even though his problem is different from mine, it seemed to be caused by the same thing - just leaving the phone on until the batteries died.
Mat.
aaaannnndd it's gone again. no charging light. it's weird, like my phone just decided it didn't wanna work for me any more and stopped.
i'll take it to get it repaired, see what they say. if not, it'll make a nice paperweight or maybe i can flog it to some blind kid

XDAII Died during upgrade to WM2K3SE !!

Dear Gurus ...
I need help. During the upgrading process, the connection was disconnected and my XDAII is currently not showing any sign of life.
I ran through the forum, and tries a lot of stuff:
1) try to reset it to bootloader (pwr+joy+reset) - nothing
2) change USB port - nothing
3) setting in MsActiveSync - nothing
There is no display on the screen right now. Even if I put it in to charge there is nothing, no flashing blue led etc ... just dead ....
One thing I noticed is that after removing the battery, and putting it into the cradle, there is a red led light up.
Currently I ran out of options and can only think off taking out the battery for the XDAII to drain completely (not sure if this could help me get into the bootloader mode).
Any one out there who has any bright ideas? Pls help as I am desperate to fix my XDAII .... thanks ....

I had the same problem but I didn't loose hope. I kept on resetting it until I was able to get into the bootloader mode. It was black with some writings "SERIAL 1.06". When I put it back on cradle, Serial changed into USB 1.06. Tried to do the upgrade over and over again but didn't work. I put AC Adapter to my cradle and hard reset my unit, put back to the cradle, started the upgrade again and it worked.

There are several Golden Rules when upgrading - not just to SE, but any upgrade.
Always make sure the cradle is attached directly to a USB port on the PC and not through a hub.
Always make sure the power supply is connected to the cradle.
Disable USB in Activesync connection settings.
Disable any screensavers
If an error does occur, putting your device into bootloader mode and restarting the upgrade often proceeds OK.
Bootloader mode can be a little tricky to obtain as the multi-directional button has to be pressed directly down in the middle - not tilted up, tilted down, tilted left or tilted right, at the same time as pressing the power button and the reset switch.
It is very easy to assume bootloader is not working when it may just take several attempts before you get it right.

My qtek2020 dead because it's my mistake I upgrade it to SE correctly but with Chinese Version and before DCS post his ROM when I saw it's working better than my PDA2K I try to flash my qtek2020 with the PDA2K ROM ( I make some HEX editing ) but with no luck my qtek2020 is totally dead
Any body have solution !
How I recover from my dead XDA II ..
I have to agree with DCS that those are the rules and you need to follow them properly. It's not the ROM that's having the problem but the procedure needs to be followed.
In my case I didn't have the Sync cable properly connected (I bought a new sync cable & I didn't use the cradle) to upgrade the XDAII (duh!).. and I paid the price of having my heart droped on the floor ..
My nightmare started when the cable came loose halfway through the upgrade, so the XDA kind of "hung" and when I tried to reset it, it refuse to show any signs. Do a small test. My guess is as long as you take out the battery, put the XDA II into the charger (without a battery), and the red light comes on, that's a good sign.
For those who is stuck in this situation try this steps:
1) Remove the main battery
2) Leave it out for at least 30mins (to drain the backup battery)
3) Go make your self a coffee or watch TV (time flies faster than staring at your XDAII)
4) Put the battery back (at this stage it still won't work)
5) Put the XDAII into the AC Charger (give it a good 5mins charge)
6) Then keep doing the hard reset (just don't give up, it's like doing CPR, your XDAII will show "Serial 1.06" after a good hard resets ...)
Those steps above did work for my XDAII .... and it should work for most cases as I believe when we upgrade (the ROM) we don't touch the bootloader. Sometimes when we screw up, the XDAII got "hung" and it needs a good "cold boot". Taking the battery out won't help because the backup battery is still in. After a good "cold boot" the XDAII will boot into the bootloader and you can resume your upgrade ;-)
NOTE : Do keep your fingers cross through out the entire process.
PS: Thanks to DCS, Twinkle, mamaich and many others who contributed to this fine forum ... Long live the XDA I, II, IIs, III .... beyond ....
How to upgrade my BOOOTLOADER VERSION (it shows USB 1.01)
Is there a way to change my bootloader version from USB 1.01 to 1.06? I'm currently using T-Mobile MDA-II.
Thanks beforehand!
I have a big problem: this summer i dropped my MDA2 on a concrete floor and i broke the power button so I cant make anything but soft reset, or to remove the battery for 30 min for hard reset.

Now i finally upgraded to 2003SE.
Thanx DCS!!

Prophet goes down

Hi All,
My Prophet just died...
I made a RadioROM upgrade and after a reboot I did an IPL upgrade. I did a soft reset and now it doesn't want to turn on. I'm really confused what did I make wrong and how can I redo it.
I'm looking forward to a helpful info.
Thanks
Does your screen stay black or does it display anything? Can you enter bootloader? And why would you want to upgrade your IPL???
My screen is dark black, I can not even turn it on. I doesn't matter what sort of switch I press on the dev. So I can't see the bootloader and I think it's a serious problem...
After the IPL upgrade the reboot was succesful and on the startup screen it says IPL 2.20.0001 and worked for a while.
I've changed my local settings, which reqiures a soft reset, so I did it. After this, no aswer...
I'm very dissapointed because of the pda and your help dear all...
Is your battery dead? Try it with your charger.
No, my battery was fully charged before I ran into this major problem...
I had a similar issues which was misteriously resolved after a few plug ins and battery removals. I also let the battery completely drain and removed it from phone for a few hours. It worked when connected to wall charger but not with battery. It seemed like interior phone battery was dead. One day I connected it to the wall charger and the battery status when from zero to 98% and it stayed there. Really weird stuff. I ordered another battery and so far so good. One of the batteries did die and i discarded it, but I still use the other old battery plus I have a new spair.
Yamilrx, thanks the info...
I'll try it, but I've lost my faith in this device. It's in clinical dead state for 2 days from now, and it looks like doesn't want to wake up or alive.
This is a very misteroius issue.
I don't understand it, if I upgraded wrongly somebody tell me, why was the device started after? And if it was a wrong update, how can I turn it on and make calls, etc. and after a soft reset it DOESN'T reply for anything?!
I bought it almost 2 years ago, so I assume the battery could cause similar problem. But it was almost fully charged. The Star Wars was less incredible then this thing...
Except this, I'll accept your advice. I'm going to try it.
try the following, as your device is dead and curently noy useable.
-remove the battery for a day and just leave it there
- put in the battery and connect the charger
- hold your camera button while turning the device on
do you get into the 3 colored screen? if so, the device can now be downgraded etc.
particular reason why you have not tried a HARD reset?

Thanks, I'll try it first after go to a shop and buy a battery.
Anyway, when I mentioned I've tried all the combinations of the buttons, I meant i did a hard reset too. But my Spleeping Beauty is still doing the same...
The problem hasn't been solved by the solutions you have mentioned before, so I've called the HTC technical support, they were very friendly - they must be because I'll pay for it - and 2 days from now they will tell me how much does it costs or it is repairable or not...
Thanks for your help.

I did that with mine to see if it would reset device once the internal battery is totally discharged. Like I said earlier, mine came back to live. Make sure you install the WM 5 rom used for downgrading and don't try any of the WM 6 roms until the device is fully functional with wm5. The batteries are $8 on ebay but they take 1 week to get here from Hong Kong.
If winter comes, can sping be far away?
Hi All,
The service technician examined my Prophet and he said, I have to change a mainboard. Have you ever run into this kind of problem? If I want a repair, it'd cost me 300 Euro!!
Luckily I still have a warranty, so I hope I don't have to pay for the service.
Take care your Prophet...

HTC Touch Dual - Not turning on

Hi Guys,
I have recently successfully flashed my Nike to the NIKI_ROM_MARY_v0.3.3. It was working fine for the past 3 days apart from the odd frozen screen coming out of sleep mode (i think that had to do with some sleep/lock setting)
Then out of the blue I notice it power was off.
- I tried pressing and holding down the power button
- Removing the SIM, micro SD and battery and replacing with another battery
- Connecting to PC
- Charging
All to no avail...
Has anyone have any other suggestions before I return for warranty?
This worked for me; take the battery out leave the sim and memorycard inside the phone, attach the powercord wich is connected to the wallsocket ofcourse and switch the phone on, and then insert the battery........
2nd post cannot delete it?
i'm not sure but i dont think they will repair under warranty as you have changed the software
Same issue
I have the same issue with Mary's v4.0, if i reset or switch off the phone, it just dies, whatever I do it will not switch on.
I managed after 2 days, the keep trying to plug in ac power, with no battery, got a red charge light and then insert the battery, then hold down the power button, finally it booted, now i dare not switch off or soft reset.

if this does not work, then hold the on button and keep trying to insert, then remove and insert the battery until it starts (hopefully).
Just flashed another ROM, so doubt its ROM related, my suggestion is do the above, flash back to your original ROM and SPL, then send it back under warranty, this will be my 4th NIKI under warranty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This worked for me. Seems to be a problem with the HTC Touch Dual. Several people I know have had the phone shut down for no reason. After the above, I did a soft reset.. No problems since... Touch wood!

Hmm, okay I know it's an old thread but I have the same issue but it happened with the original rom, I finally bring the phone back to life unfortenally not with my own sim-card.
For now I'm scared to do a sofreset because I think I lost my phone again just wondering what I can do, maybe someone on this forum have a solution for this.
Regards
I had exactly the same problem... may anyone be more specific?

Hi teorouge, sometimes I got my phone back, what I did was:
1. Remove battery
2. Pressing softreset button about 10 times.
3. Insert battery and keep pressing the powerbutton until the phone reacts.
It's not a fix, the only thing you can do is use the phone but if you do a softreset the problem is back.
Personally I think the powercircuit is broken, I had to buy myself another Niki.

Thanks for the answer, I gave the Niki back to his owner... it's a corporate phone so he shouldn't personally pay any money (and me neither, that's for sure!) to get it repaired. Thou I hope for him they'll change it to a newer (and feature-rich) device!

HD2 Died ..!!

I updated my phone (HD2 T-mobile) via internet website and when I finished the updating process, the phone did not work at all.
I tried more than once to switch it on, but it didn't respond. I took the battery out and put it in again, but nothing happened.
When I connect the phone with the charger, the charger light doesn't become on.
It seems that the phone is dead!!!. What do you suggest to solve this problem? If you think it is a hardware problem, what is the name of this hardware
Pleas don't open twice the same thread in different sections; this will not help you more!

Was working ok for a few weeks: Android 2.1. Did as you said. Nothing.
b4 this, there was a "warning" - on CONNECTING TO MICRO-USB POWER source, it would continual start the first screen, then reboot.
Once it did a soft reset ... but no longer. I have 3 new batteries, independent chargers, so it's not a battery fault.
