I want to start this thread and have everyone submit information for peripherals that work on the Athena but are made for PC's. We can even add devices which we know do not work. I've already spent a few dollars testing out several Bluetooth mice and I wouldn't want anyone else wasting money, etc. For devices that aren't compatible I would recommend more than one person test in case it was improperly installed/configured/etc.
What do you guys think of this?
To contribute, test and let us know what works and doesn't.

Logitech V270 BT Mouse battery life
For reference, I purchased the Logitech V270 BT mouse around april 15, and I have been using it for 50 business days straight (with average use) until now on it's first set of batteries without any visible signs of battery depletion (blinking led indicating an empty battery).
It supposedly has built-in battery saving features, and honestly, I don't see how it would last this long without those features.
Im still waiting on my usb host cable so i cant add anything as yet - sorry.
I would very much like to know if anyone has tried out some powered/unpowered hard drives for compatibility. I have strong suspicions that wm6 will have a lot more usb host functionality and that devices which didnt work under wm5 will now be properly recognised.

I remember seeing something about this within the forum somewhere. See if you can search and come up with something. People were trying HD's and USB drives via the USB connection.

Can you post some of the specifications like I did for the mouse I recommended so I can edit my post and add more info for others?
I think I may go out and buy the mouse because of the battery life you reported. I'm still testing the one I have in regards to battery life.

Do you need the 4-in-1 cable to use it? Or is it BlueTooth?
It does require the 4 in 1 cable to plug the usb receiver into (or the dock), so I guess you could call it a wired device.

Belkin Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard Combo works!
Just tested The Belkin Wireless Desktop from my tower pc on an Ameo and it works superbly. Seemingly cursor support is embedded into WM6 as all I had to do was pair and I was away!
It works a treat: I'm sending this post using it now. It actually makes the Ameo really feel like an Ickle mini pc.
Hoping that USB devices run as smoothly as this as I wish to use Bluetooth Dun and a keyboard and mouse at the same time - doubt the bandwidth of BT would support 3 devices symultaneously, though I may give it a try tomorrow.
Just remembered - the Belkin wireless desktop's supplied bluetooth dongle is plug n play - when my 4-in-1 arrives I'll give it a test with the Ameo - if it works then it'll expand my bluetoothing potential.

it's just called a bluetooth wireless desktop as far as the packaging is concerned. There's one on ebay on the link below if anyone wants to see a picture. Both the mouse and keyboard work perfectly on the Ameo: there's no delay or jerkiness. They give the device a great 'feel' (for want of a better word). Im still on the lookout for a small, affordable keyboard and mouse combo to use though. I'd prefer USB, in part for the purpose of conserving power.

I tried my usb 250 gig fat 32 drive, the Ameo eventually found it, and I could see the folders, "couldnt before" but still way to slow to access anything on it. its way quicker to just use it as a network drive.
Anybody any luck with a usb drive.

I'm looking for a good way to connect my neck-strap to my phone preferably to the bottom. Currently It's connected to the thing mounted on my hard-case that is used to support the belt-clip. This is not convenient as the phone hangs from the center. I've solved this temporarily by using double adhesive tape between the hard-case and the neck strap but it keeps coming off after awhile.
The trend of skipping irDA on current devices is sad as I use it for my TV, 2 receivers and 360. I have my X50v with noviiRemote but unfortunately it locks up frequently. The device is really old and I think It's giving up. New batteries don't help. I've been thinking of connecting a small irDA dongle to the extUSB connector prefferably by using a shortextUSB->full size female type A USB cable. The alternative would be to buy an Ipaq 211 and a Ultramote CF card. The 21x series seems to be getting full Linux support soon (http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/HpIpaq214). Seems like the biggest problem is PCMCIA and WIFI.
At last, the extUSB->TypeA USB cable is great and I wonder if It's available somewhere? All I can find is miniUSB->TypeA USB.

I tried that route a few years ago with a PocketPC and found that the device is too expensive and too capable to use it as a remote and the Ir hardware is pretty weak, as it is not really designed for that kind of use. I have been using JP1 remotes for about 5 years and I am very happy to say that for about $20 in startup costs and a fairly small and interesting investment in the larning curve, I have had $15-$30 several remotes controlling all my AV hardware - and on occasion any other stray Ir-equipped device, such as my camera for taking high-zoom long distance shots, where I could not afford the shake from pressing the button. I have kids, that really tend to abuse the remotes, so I have had to replace them a couple of times - no worries, just re-program the new one and go, since they are so cheap.
JP1 framework can support just about any IR controlled device, map any/many functions to any buttons, control different devices at the same time, do macros, support remotes with LCD displays, etc.
Wikipedia article on JP1 has good links to get you started.

I couldn't find any stores/sellers on eBay that have extUSB cables. miniUSB works fine and I'd rather carry one sync cable than two if both devices use the same port.

I have had no problems with the range on my X50v, however I'm sitting 2m from the equipment. If range is a problem I can add the Ultramote extender. The only dedicated remote that seems to fit my needs is the Harmony 1000 but it costs around the same as the Ipaq 211 and lacks bluetooth (in case someone figures out how to control the PS3 with Android, Familiar or WIndows mobile) and a whole bunch of other things (for ex wifi to control computer). I have upgraded the X50v firmware and I hope it will solve the lockup issues. It's slower now though. The 211 lacks IR and there is no info on the Ultramote site about newer devices without IR but I'm pretty sure it can be sorted out.

I have read some reports that using miniUSB in an extUSB outlet can damage the outlet. During the Kaiser days, using the miniUSB cable inserted didn't feel right. It feels very loose. Also inserting miniUSB into my my G1 seems to require some violence to be honest.

As a regular trackball user on desktops, I've been looking for a Bluetooth one to go with the Tablet S to give me a bit more precision for tasks like text editing. Unfortunately apart from one very hard to source and expensive Mac targeted device my search has been fruitless.
I finally bit the bullet and ordered a mouse and would just like to recommend Dell's mini 5 button Bluetooth travel mouse.
It's length is just under half the screen height of the Tablet and is black/silver, so slightly smaller than a regular mouse and matches the tablet well. Using 2 AA batteries it paired straight away and only requires about an inch of movement for the pointer to traverse the whole screen. It also wakes the tablet up on movement. Scroll wheel works but the browser back & forward and right mouse button don't. If anyone has any tips for an app that would allow for these buttons that would be great but otherwise picked up for less than £20 I'm a happy bunny.

Not sure I'm afraid, the on screen keyboard is good enough for my young slender fingers.
If it's a multiple bluetooth device issue I'll try it out with my PS3 controller tonight and see if both work together.

Well there's no problems talking to 2 bluetooth devices at the same time. But can't vouch for a keyboard I'm afraid.
I've got my TP running CM9 alpha 2. I've always considered getting a keyboard for the TP to take notes in class.

You would need a powered USB hub to get it to work. I have the bt kb from HP and its awesome. I think it's cheaper too.

Sounds like we've got different priorities. The HP bt kb is pretty small, butb big enough to type on. It's the same size as my 15" laptop kb, so I can still touch type. Smaller than that, and it gets difficult to bang out anything more than a sentence or 2 IMO. Mine would easily fit in a backpack. It's only about a quarter inch thick, except where the batteries go...there it's almost an inch. And the LxW is about 14X4.5 or 5 maybe. I don't have a measuring tape or ruler here.

Sweet, great video and love that you put links with Amazon Prime eligible stuff which I just ordered. Does the Touchpad charge with this method if there is enough current on the 5v line?
I have a Logitech USB gaming controller, I'll have to see if CM9 recognizes it (I believe its HID) and see if I can map its keys in an emulator. Also I imagine one could buy or make a portable USB power supply so this thing is mobile. When near and outlet the OEM HP charger would supply plenty of current (2A) for multiple USB devices. Its regulated so it will put out 5v even at low loads. Keyboards and mice are rated at only 100mA. I don't see why you couldn't hook both a keyboard and mouse into an unpowered USB hub if you are using the HP charger as your main source of USB power for the OTG adapter.

Unfortunately, it does NOT charge off of this. I really wish it did.
Got my two cables in the mail today.
It works great with keyboards and mice, unfortunately it doesn't recognize my Logitech USB gaming controller. I tried a powered USB hub instead of the Y cable and all it did was charge the TP using the USB hub's power and no USB devices worked.
I then tried using a non-powered HUB connected on the Y cable using the HP charger as a power supply. It allowed me to use a keyboard and mouse simultaneously. So if you want to use more than 1 device get a non powered USB hub. Just make sure your power supply has enough current for all the USB devices. USB keyboards and mice only draw 0.1A so the 2A HP charger is plenty.
Why is nobody selling a unit with all of this built in? A little box with a rechargeable battery built in, an output for OTG microUSB and a few input USB ports.
Hi, is anybody using wireless keyboard on nst? Wired one works fine for me. But when I'm connecting wi-fi mouse, it doesn't seem to work correctly, there is no control over the pointer. I am asking because that could give me bigger choice of keyboards, and maybe also would help to reduce the battery drain. Thanks
Mouses are not currently supported correctly.
Movement gets translated into KEYCODE_DPAD KeyEvents.

Well, there's wireless, Bluetooth and WiFi, all very different.
You could use a regular wireless keyboard with a USB dongle on the Nook side.
That will work fine as to the Nook it looks exactly like a wired keyboard.
USB mode as it is now uses a lot of current.
You time between charging will drop to once a day.
Bluetooth would have been a good one, if only B&N had spent the extra $0.50 for the WiFi module with Bluetooth.
Bluetooth on a USB dongle would have all the drawbacks of the above wireless keyboard but would also require a driver.
Keyboard over WiFi using a PC or another Android device would work.
You'd just need software on both ends.
Many keyboards that say "WiFi" are simply wireless keyboards that use the ISM spectrum the same as WiFi does.
The easy way to check is if the package includes a USB dongle.
Thanks for very detailed answer. Yes, I was thinking only about keyboard with wi-fi dongle. I've already noticed that unfortunately bluetooth will not work. There is a rather small range of portable USB keyboards that are specially dedicated to android devices. I was looking for one with a stand for comfortable typing anywhere I will be... a train, park bench etc.... Or well, you can find many usb keyboards with stands on ebay for example , but they all looks almost the same just with different logos, cheap, poor quality ones. Market is concentrated on bluetooth keyboards, then a lot of them are quite decent. So I'm just going to find a good usb compact keyboard, and then mount some kind of stand to it myself. Anyway, that is not very important for others, this post might be already to long.

A good question. And I have a related one - won't using a USB dongle and wireless keyboard take a good bit less current than a plain USB keyboard, because the port isn't supplying power to the keyboard itself? I know to expect things like "It takes more battery life from the WiFi than the current" but I'd just like to know exactly.

I was wondering about Renate's bluetooth suggestion above. I realise it would still not be ideal, but I've got a pretty good bluetooth keyboard for my other android devices and it would be great if I could try it with my nook as well (in particular I'd also be curious to test NOOK!E's question about power demand).
I'm running pinguy1982's tweaked ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2651053) and have been able to connect a micro-USB keyboard (the cheap ones built-in in some cases) using Renate's USBmode app. Now I was wondering if/how I would be able to use a USB bluetooth dongle to connect my bluetooth keyboard. Using the USB app, it seems to be recognised - it says something about a wireless device under View USB when I connect the bluetooth dongle. Exact output is:

I don't know how to proceed from here though, as there's obviously no menu point for pairing a bluetooth device. I've had a look around for standalone apps for this, but not successful so far (devices that have bluetooth usually have a regular menu for that of course).
Any help about how to proceed would be much appreciated!
PS:
Just found BlueInput, but it just tells me that Bluetooth is not available. I guess that means something else is missing (if this is at all feasible to work).

The Nook has remnants in the build for Bluetooth support.
That's mostly in permissions and groups.
The WiFi adapter module on the circuit board does not support Bluetooth.
For an extra $0.25 they could have speced the version of the module that supported it.
I guess that it's not a priority for B&N, even the new Nook Glow Plus has the same problem.
Your Bluetooth dongle gets enumerated on the USB host, but there are no drivers to handle it.
This is indicated by the lack of black dots to the right.
A wired keyboard would show you dots.

I bought the s23 ultra for its power hoping to be able to use it as a phone as much as as a PC (android pc).
Could you tell me what hardware is needed for this conversion (I already have a Bluetooth keyboard + mouse) ?

I had something like this and it works great if you are just wanting to hook it up to Dex. I have something similar and is great to have.
I switched to the Dock style like I linked because it allows me to use the phone without the need of an external display (but has the option to use one).
Either solution would work great and the best thing is you can plug in full size Mouse and KB to either option if you do not want to stick with the BT KB if it is not full size.

I don't know really what refresh rate is supported by our S23 Ultra
There are a lot of options to use S23U as an Android PC.
You can use a USB C dock. There are some docks that are more designed for desktop setup to be PC. I would suggest getting something that has passthrough power charging since there is only one USB port. Technically you can use Qi charging pad, but wireless charging tend to make batteries run hotter, which can shorten the life the battery in the long term.
Since Samsung has Dex on many of its phones, you essentially only need to hook the phone up to some kind of display. After that, it's about making it a better experience. This is connecting a keyboard, mouse, and so forth. I personally like Logitech ERGO K860 keyboard. Ergonomic, but has Bluetooth and a wireless receiver, and can be synced up to 3 devices. The Logitech MX Anywhere 3 Compact mouse it nice. Small, thus very portable. Also can synch up to 3 devices.
There are also lapdocks such as NexDock and Uperfect. These are basically like laptops but with no central processing or storage. They're a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. They're still pretty early in the product cycle and haven't gotten to a general population use. I have the Nexdock Touch and NexDock 360 wireless. They work very well, but there can be some quirks. The phone is all the CPU, GPU and storage. Most modern phones released in the last few years have the power any decent laptop; maybe more powerful in some cases. These can run $250-$600US, which some argue you can get a cheap Chromebook or laptop. The nice thing, when you upgrade your smartphone, you're "upgrading" the power of the "laptop". With NexDock, you can access the internals, which means, in theory, you can replace the battery. If true, it means you can keep/use the lapdock for years. I think YouTuber, JuanBagnell, does a good job explaining the pros and cons of lapdocks. He focuses on most people's everyday and most likely uses. He does not use the usual benchmarks; it's how certain programs actually perform. He has reviews of several Nexdock and Uperfect. YouTuber, ETA Prime, has some interesting reviews on some of them too; he is more gaming focused
You are going to want to read/watch information on Dex. It's one of the more "refined" desktop environments with smartphones. It's not like ChromeOS. Google hasn't only recently started to add a desktop environment to Android. It has a more Windows feel to it. Not apps play nice with it. Also realize, this is Android based. Thus, you're not going to be able to use Windows or MacOS applications. It has to be Andriod applications. Some apps have incorporated the desktop environment. Others not so much so they can look weird. Some applications are designed not to work in the desktop environment. On a side note, you don't have to use to Dex. There is an option to mirror your phone.
If it wasn't for a few specific Windows-based applications, I could literally ditch the home PC. This is why my home PC is very small and not a powerhouse. I recently upgraded to a Minisforum with Ryzen 9 integrated H6800 GPU from the NUC11. The GPU was an issue with a couple of applications I run and was starting to get annoying.

Looking for this answer too, did you find which DP version S23 Ultra usb-c port supports? 1.4?
I don't think the S23 is purely dependant on the USB C adapter being HDMI or not. There are USB C to DP adapters. I think it's more, does the hub support the output of the S23 into a DP signal that the display will accept.
The VGA thing, that will probably require another adapter since you're going to need to change a digital signal to analog. I haven't checked in quite some time, but you may have some luck finding an adapter with HDFury. I used them a long time ago for HDMI to Component video (RGB). It may be kind of pricey.
