Question about SuperCID - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

i posted this in the Unlocker thread....since i can't sim unlock my brand new 8525 can i at least make it SuperCID so that i can change my ROM to WM6...if so, do i just run the HARD SPL and upgrade my ROM from there or is there any intial steps i need to take to make it only SuperCID...TIA

am not sure about this but with mine, i did not have to do SUPERCID to update my ROM.. just went ahead and picked a ROM and i was all set. did not even sim unlock till much later.
i did do the hard spl step though as i think that is really mandatory before an initial update..
hope this helps..

I agree, U need to install hardspl (supercid not needed). Follow Mrvanx upgrade guides!!

Juz run the hard spl or get the 2.10 verison... you dont need to super cid or sim unlock ne thing... I never did with my 8525...if ur juz starting i suggest you to try vp3g first... becuz u dont have to do the at&t settings for mms and mediaNet if you have at&t... which is kinda easy to setup but juz to give u confident of flashing

question regarding upgrading

OK im not a new to windows mobile, i have flashed before many times but with wizard.
I want to upgrade my brother hermes,
ipl 1.01
spl 1.06
Im quite familiar with wizards "shelltool" (if you know) which just boots the OS and nothing else.
So can you guide as which tool i should use to just upgrade the OS and leave IPL and SPL and GSM as it is. I think SSPL should do??
Check out THIS MOST AWESOME GUIDE. MrVanx is the best and his guide will give you all you need.
But im in warranty, and i dont wanna lose it by overwriting spl,
Is there any other way to upgrade.
I think SSPL will do but not sure do i need to check for CID also??
Thanks for quick reply.
If your warranty is important, then I would read it very closely.
Probably only upgrades available from your manufacturer or your service provider would be allowed, and in that case you follow their instructions to the letter and if something goes wrong, it's up to them to resolve.
If you go loading WM6 and it's not supported, then you'll be on your own so you might as well load best/safest IPL & HARDSSPL as the experts have so wonderfully published for us lesser experienced people.
If it was my brothers phone, I wouldn't touch it because he'd either hit me or be bugging me for weeks about different versions & software etc, etc, etc
That's just my 2cents anyway.
Good luck! Oggy.

I would suggest not flashing a radio if you don't flash Olipro's HardSPL.
But SSPL will allow you to bypass the CID check for roms, similar to the shelltool for Wizards.
I have learned now to decompile and compile the nbh file.
So i can compile now any rom with OS only and flash it via SSPL.
Can anybody guide me to a guide to use SSPL. OR can u say???
I have one more confusion regarding SSPL that it does change the SPL for time being(for flashing) or for always??
Again if anything goes wrong while flashing the rom(only OS) will i be able to flash the original rom directly with original SPL.

too much information gets confusing

hi all,
i've just bought a t-mobile vario 2
i;ve read the wiki & a few of the posts regarding upgrading
but to be honest it has so much information & sometimes the information is contradictory.. so it gets confusing
i've been using the uni for a year now
my point is
i want 2 upgrade my hermes 2 wm6
my boot screen says
herm300
IPL-1.01
SPL 1.40.Olipro
i can use a different/other sim card than t-mobile
how do i chek if my hermes is CID unlocked
and what radio i'm using & what's my bootloader number??
i try 2 read the splash screen after soft reset but the radio version goes away pretty fast
do i run POF's unlocker v3a? is it safe to run again, even if my phone is cid unlocked?
in order 2 upgrade 2 wm6
do i need to install olipros hard spl 2.10? and then run customruu?
this is what i mean by confusing?
i've upgraded my magician, uni & wizard
however they all had pretty easy/self explanatory directions?
i'm sorry for sounding like a noob, but its new territory....
thanx in advance
Is there a specific reason you want to CID the device? T-Mobile's data plan s pretty great so I have never seen the need to use another sim in my vario. You dont need to CID unlock to upgrade the rom.
As long as you have installed Olipro's spl to protect against bricking your phone it should be fairly safe to install a wm6 rom. If not, definitely install the current version of hard spl.
Once you have installed SPL, you then run the RUU.exe file that usually comes with the rom. Tha majority will have a tick box on the first page that says auto detect, which will check which version of spl you have installed and then run itself accordingly. It is best to have the current hardspl installed though.
Most of them dont touch your extended rom and only replace the OS rom contents. T-Mob's wm5 extended rom customizations wont work with wm6 anyway so you will need to go looking here for a cab file called (I Believe) tmobileukfixed.cab.
You will also need to look for newer versions of your pocket pc software as some older ones dont play nice with WM6.
Good luck, and if in doubt, read MrVanx's upgrade guide here: http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/

iMate JasJam -> WM6

Hi,
Hopefully someone can tell me the correct guide to upgrade my iMate JasJam from WM5 to WM6? I've read the guides, but there's so much choice I'm confused! I really don't want to brick my phone as I use it for business. I live in New Zealand so do I need to do anything else to get it working on the Vodafone NZ network?
Can someone tell me the guide I should use which will work?
iMate are useless and never released an official WM6 update.
I'm thinking of following this guide but using the Black Satin ROM. Any objections?
following that should be fine BUT first you need to sim/cid unlock your Phone and install hard SPL on it. this will make it easier to fix if something goes wrong. Both programs you need can be found at the top of the list on this part of the forum. PLEASE also read MR Vanx's guide to flashing your phone as it Will definately be beneficial. After Flashing the first 2 things onto your Hermes you can pick whatever rom you want. Black satin is an older rom but fairly stable. Good uck and happy flashing...
Ok, unlock then hard SPL first, got it.
What's newer and more stable than Black Satin then?
Pays, Schapps, these guys really know what they're doing, I personally like TNT se. Thats my preference. What you need to do is search the forum and find a rom you like. Each person likes different things and me telling you what I like may be completely different to what you want or need. Alot of roms come with 3rd party apps cooked in but if you want speed then go for a lite rom. I'm also trying out the 6.1 roms but there have been stability issues. My preference there is Faria-R32 Dr Puttingham WM6.1 HERMES ROM-CUSTOM+CLEAN. It seems to be stable for my purposes. Research and find what you like... Cheers
Sweet I'll check it out. Thanks mate.
Hmm bit confused now. Which do I run first? The unlocker or the Hard SPL?
Because in the 'HTC Hermes SIM & CID Unlock - v3a' instructions iit says "New RUU will make sure HardSPL-1.40 is installed before flashing the radio". As far as I know I don't have any HardSPL on my device at the moment. So that must mean I need to run the HardSPL first? Then the unlocker?
Also as far as HardSPL goes, there is a v9 Hard-SPL-2.60 out. Should I use that or the 2.10 - Hard-SPL-V7??
hardspl first, the sim unlocker. for version, just go with v9.
Yeah did the HardSPL first, then the SIM unlocker. The SIM unlocker actually downgraded the HardSPL to 1.4.olipro so I had to run the HardSPL to bring it back up to the other level 2.60. Weird...
Anyway I'm up and running!
Radio version is now: 1.43.00.00
ROM: Schap's 4.30
The thing I was hoping to eliminate with WM6 was the slow time it takes to dial numbers on the phone. Whenever you dial a key there's like a 1/2sec delay before it appears on the screen. I'd like it to be instant. The delay makes me think the phone is slow and it's really annoying. Anyone know if it can be fixed?

Help with upgrading.

FIrst off, I've got a at&t 8525 with wm5, and I'm a complete noob to the device and upgrading. I'm pretty good with computers and technology but upgrading this has somewhat got my head spinning. lol. I wish to upgrade to Schap's Wm6 pro v4.31.
The way i understand to upgrade is: upgrade to hardSPL (using the ruu provided with the hardspl download), then run the ruu provided with schap's rom and upgrade.
A few questions: 1) Do I need to upgrade the radio rom? 2) Schap's rom, being a non-at&t authenticated rom do i need to SIM unlock and/or CID unlock the device before upgrading? 3) After finishing upgrade do i need to downgrade to a different spl?
Many Thanks,
Tyler
When you upgrade the SPL, make sure its Hard SPL V7. SPL will be 2.10 oli after you finish (go to bootloader to check).
Once you have Hard SP you can upgrade the ROM using the sd card method.
1. Format sd card FAT32. Copy .nbh file of the om you want on to it. Rename to hermimg.nbh
2 Insert into Hermes and go to bootloader.
3. If the ALL steps have been followed exactly then follow the prompts.
Means the nasty little things like usb disconnections, sync errors or accidental PC resets won't brick your Hermes.
Just make sure the battery is charged and you don't soft reset in the middle of a flash.
No need to sim-unlock as Hard SPl should fix that problem. As long as you use a sim from the sim locked supplier then you don't need to unlock, if you intend use a sim from another carrier then you may need to unlock, best idea would be to see by using a different carrier sim.
If you do use the sim/cid unlocker tool, make sure to re-install Hard SPL V7 as it downgrades the SPL to 1.40 oli. Older, not so safe version of Hard sPL.
Radio ROMs are the riskiest things on the Hermes to flash. If everything is working fine, DON'T CHANGE IT... Not unless you are 110% certain there are advantages. A problem flashing the radio ROM is generally a permanent brick.
However, on those times where you decide to chance it, stock roms and such I strongly recommend using the sd card method. Its safer than the PC method.
Hope thats not too frightening, just want you to be aware of the dangers. As long as you prepare, be methodical and don't rush you should be fine....
Cheers...

ok thanks guys got my hermes yesterday and downloaded hard spl v7,quick question do i need to install sim and cid unlocker v3a or should i just run the hard spl Ruu and flash it?
1 more lame noob question lol do i have to flash my rom with the sd card method?
Sim and CID unlocker is required just to unlock ur ppc to use on any sim, as the super cid function is already merged in hard spl v7.
Try to use the sd card method, as the risk factor is minimal in this method as compared to active sync method. as there are may cases of broken usb connections here.
hey guys thanks i finally did it!!!! i used activesync method because only getting my sd card later on today,my bootloader is now ipl 1.04 spl 2.04 olipro. heres the steps i followed firstly downloaded hard spl v7,then fully connected to activesync,i ran the RUU but instead of getting the red option like everyone descriped it said "force sspl" anyway i continued and followed the prompts and it worked!! so now i got my herm200 ready to flash a custom rom.thanks to everyone who helped and happy flashing guys....one last question though now after i download a rom of my choice can i just run the RUU and flash it?
sorry posted my new spl wrong. its ipl 1.04 spl 2.10.olipro
Cool, yeah you should be able to though I'd use the sd card method to flash - just drop the steps using SSPL.exe... Its a hell of a lot safer and I wouldn't do it any other way for a radio rom, stuff up a radio rom flash you can pretty much kiss the phone functions goodbye...
Cheers...
