Rom update freezes at 12% - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Ok, I'm not sure if my phone is bricked or not, because it doesn't seem to fit in any of the categories described. A few months ago I installed hard-spl 2.10, then installed wm6. I used this for awhile and found it unstable and upgraded to the new build yesterday. Everything went fine (i had to recover the installation once) but then I found the new version still to be too unstable for me.
To make a long story short I downloaded the official htc wm5 release and tried to revert. That fails at 12%, when I try to install the wm6 it fails at 11%. Obviously my phone now just goes to the bootloader screen and will not accept any rom updates. I'm running bootloader 1.04. Any ideas?

The exact same thing happened to me. I haven't a clue what's going on. I'm using the official HTC WM6. Same IPL, SPL is 1.40.Olipro

I actually just found this : http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=27
I followed the steps exactly and miraculously it worked! I'm definitely going to wait until the official release comes out before I try upgrading to wm6 again!

Actually its messed up still, no gsm

Did you try upgrading again to WM6?

I reset the sim and the gps started working again

"no GSM" problem. All workaround posted doesn't work! Pls HELP!!!

Hi all,
First of all I want to let you know that I did search the forum for a solution. In fact, I found a lot of workarounds but none of them actually worked.
Let me give some details about my problem: My Hermes was working fine. I was running the official WM6 ROM supplied by HTC, so no customized ROM here.
It was going fine until the WM frozed. Then I soft reset the device and after that I never got cellular signal again.
While booting the device I got the message: "no GSM".
First thing I tried was to flash a new radio ROM. In all the attempts the progress bar never moved from 0% and after a while I got the communication problem error.
Then I tried flashing a whole ROM. This time the progress bar stopped at 81%. Apparently in the first 81% it flashes the OS and in the last 19% it writes the radio. Anyway, I tried this a few times and never finished.
In fact, after every communication error message I got stuck in the bootloader screen.
The only thing that works is to flash a ROM WITHOUT the radio!!
Is there anything I can do to save my phone or am I condemned to use my Hermes as a phone-less pda?
I tried everything I found in the wiki/forums, but I couldn't find a working solution.
I suspect that the blocks of memory where the radio data reside got corrupted, could that be possible?
PLEASE HELP!
thanks in advance!
Chris
A similar thing happen to me several months ago. While on a call my phone froze and when I soft-reset it the dreaded 'No GSM' issue appeared. I tried flashing radios/full roms/etc, but nothing worked. I ended up sending my phone to the htc repair facility and they fixed it at no cost. (Other than not having a phone for ~10 days)
Thanks dang, but I don't have a HTC service center where I live (Argentina, LATAM)
I'm faithful that the people of this wonderful community will be able to help me.
Just for curiosity, where did you send your device? Is it in the US?
cheers
sounds like a hardware problem to me...
Hi, there! I found that a lot of us who have bricked our Hermes, don't have a responsive radio bootloader, so when they try to flash a full rom, the progress bar hangs to 13%, or 81%. This is because at that time the flasher is trying to enter the radio bootloader, but because it's corrupted, it hangs. Till today there is no known solution to this one. I'm far away from England where I bought my Hermes, so I'm not thinking to send it back for repair. I'm a programmer, so my knowledge may be usefull here. The first thing I must know is if i can use the "lnb" command without being SuperCID. I mean if there is something like a Hard-SPL with an "lnb" command - (or renamed for security reasons). Maybe there is hope!
How can I try that?

You can use 'lnb' in HardSPL without having a real SuperCID; however you will not be able to flash a radio with 'lnb' command. The radio chipset has its own bootloader, the and the SPL just acts as a pass-through sending the data directly to radio chipset through the s2410 UART.
I had one device with non-responsive htc_boot and tried all kinds of SPL patches to flash htc_boot again on radio, without success. The only known method to fix this is to take the BGA chip out with hot air and reflash it with special hardware, as it is not common to have this equipment at home, your only option is to send it somewhere to do it for you.
However, I don't want to discourage you to research on it, maybe you find something i didn't
I have a similar problem
I also have a NO GSM and corrupted CID but I can access KITL and use it with PB 5.0. and I followed this steps here but the phone doesnt boot completely. It stops just after the two boot screens on Black WM6 ending on a white screen and the debug window on PB after loading all sort of things begin showing these lines over and over:
@@@@@@ HUB state changes now @@@@@@
[HDC]HubStatusChangeThreadPN TRUE
[HDC]HubStatusChangeThreadPN FALSE
Is there any hope for me? I have the cingular 8525
thanks
Gents, do you think the solution presented in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280425 could help me?
Please advise.
thanks again

I sent it to the HTC service center in Texas, US.
I just got my replacement from ATT.. Had the same problem. Its a hardware problem.. I wouldnt waste anymore of your time.
first, i'm sorry for my english
I've the same problem with a V1605 (french SFR), i've tried every solution but flash radio doesn't work.
I can flash cooked os without any problem, but it's impossible to put official
It's only a pda now, it's better than a brick
My hernes use to be the same as you 'NoGSM'.I tried to install the official rom,but it 's not work at all.I called to service center ask this problem,so they said that it must be only changed the mainboard. That 's terrible!!!

That only works with phones with KITL...which I don't seem to have.
Sorry, how to config the phone with KITL and solve the no gsm problem.
No GSM but when sim inserted
Hi all, First sorry for my bad english.
I also have 2 bricked Tytn Hermes 200. Its not my personal ones Its my company's property, which pple were using this phones. So i'm facin with problem which many pple here having but with exception. both phones having no gsm error when sim inserted but without sim its fine. In other words , device info showing every info including IMEI when sim unavailable. And some times works with sim but after making few call and receiving phone hangs(not system) and goes off from network but anthena signal still showing few bars. I'm thinking maybe the radio hangs totally and goes off, and after soft restart NO GSM. I also tried many flashing upgrading those things nothing can really help me.
When im flashing original rom from HTC (the latest one HTC_TyTN_WWE_3.54.255.3_6275_1.48.00.10_108) its hanging on 12% and doing 3 or 4 times recovery , but its finishes succesfully. So what exactly happening in 12th%?. Maybe its started flashing radio and stopped on bad block ? But then why its finishes succesfully after few retry?. Ok so if any one wants to experiments on the phones except radio welcome. I'll help. And some can give me quick example of how to check bad blocks?.
Tnx.

#1. have you try the comm button+reset button hold for 2-3 seconds
#2. OR try the comm button+OK button+reset button hold for 2-3 seconds
anyway, i'm not sure if KITL is dependend on the ROM version. because when my device was in NO GSM status, SPL is 1.04, HTC bootloader is 0108, and lost SuperCID. Because of my device is still has SPL 1.04, i was able to load WM5 full ROM upgrade using WWE HTC English QTEK_001 2.05.255.1 01/17/07 version (ROM available on this site under HERMES Upgrade link), run it twice. once you have successful load the WM5 ROM then try to do step #1 or #2 above to get KITL USB display on your screen device.
Note: i don't think KITL mode is not available once your device is in Production Mode. anyone here can verify this?

My device is still SuperCID and I know I don't have KITL...I have SPL 1.04 as well and HTC Bootloader is 0108. I can't install any ROMs with radios as they will hang at 11/12%. I will attempt this "overload" method where it seems some people have had luck with it...after a few recoveries it just finally installs...but I don't think that will be the case.
If I can't fix this in a few days, I will most likely use my warranty or just wait for the Kaiser.
My variation of No GSM
I feel like I have problem 1A...where I am able to boot into OS but no GSM.
I am still SuperCID, SPL 1.04, HTC Bootloader 0108. Last known radio before corruption was 1.48.00.00. ROM where this problem occured: VP3G 3.60.1.
I was not even in the middle of an upgrade...just a soft reset after my phone ALREADY lost GSM capabilities during a tether session. It was stuck with no signal in Phone Mode...I put it in Flight Mode...then tried to move it back to Phone Mode and it wouldn't do so. I soft reset...and the no GSM stuck.
I tried to reinstall radio...many errors...stuck on bootloader. At first, OS's only were not installing as well but I got past that. Now I am able to boot into OS's with limited capabilities...and they will NOT ACTIVESYNC at all. Regardless of how old or new the ROM is. I tried older OS's that I knew worked in the past for me...but they refused to activesync.
Due to that, I am not able to install latest HardSPL 2.10Oli via SSPL. That seems to be the only way to do it according to my knowledge and what I've read. Maybe mtty was capable but I'm not sure. HardSPL 1.40Oli wasn't giving me any problems though, but I just wanted to have the latest one so I can avoid IPL damage.
I can only install anything if I start the device in bootloader...and I'm only limited to the OS since my Radio Bootloader seems corrupted.
I'm not sure what caused the corruption in the first place...but I feel annoying now posting on different parts of the forum with a problem that seems to be growing in the community.

Having problem upgrading Roms

I've had my 8525 now since June 2007. I'm on my third 8525 because it appears after a few monthof use either the soft keys stop working or the touch pad. Well I just received my latest new 8525 in the mail and tried to upgrade the software yesterday but none of them want to work. They get to 1% on the upgrading screen and then the phone restarts itself and the RUU says the file is corrupt, and it says that with all the different versions of Roms i have downloaded. I researched this stuff as much as I could yesterday but a lot of it seems complicated. I see that there is a crack to unlock the CID but that it voids the warranty. What am I doing wrong here, or better yet, what should I do in order to get my phone to upgrade to the Rom that I desire? Thanks and sorry for being such a newbie at this stuff but I havn't had any problems on the 2 other phones i've had before.
You should (MUST) have Hard SPL on your device before Flashing. With HardSPL it tells the device that all RUU's are OK. I guess that's what's happening.
As for breaking the warrenty, well its your choice.

Roms restart right after I tap the the Welcome screen

I got the mogul, and when I run any dcd rom Its loops to the welcome then restarts. Tried relocking, then unlocking (with olp 2.40)
I tried to install the rom first (dcd 2.2.0) then 3.27 Radio(off SD card cause wouldnt reboot)
Then I tried The 3.27 radio first, then 2.2.0 rom same thing(restarts at welcome screen)
SD card flashed back to 2.17 Sprint official, with 1.47 radio(works fine every time)
also tried it on dcd 2.1.0, and 1.6.8 all restarted in a loop,
Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix?
Or does anyone else have a good stable wm6.1 with htc touch UI rom maybe with 3.27 radio included?
I am a noob but im am starting to get this thanks for your help
do you happen to have ftouchflo cooked in somehow? if you have ftouchflo running, it wont let you calibrate the screen (for me at least).

The same thing happened to me. The only way that I could get past that issue was to wait about 5 minutes until I started to calibrate the screen. It then worked..... but it would then reboot in a loop when i tried to open Activsync to configure my exchange server. (And no, I didn't have touchflo enabled).
I went back to 3.16 and it works fine.
Make sure your Olipro 2.40 unlocker took correctly. If it did not, then you will get reboots exactly as you described.
Also, did you do a hard reset after installing your latest ROM?
Hard-SPL did not install correctly... This happened to my phone as well.
Rom restarts right after welcome screen
Ill i am about to try that again, but the flash made me lose the ESPT settings.
Now I cant make any calls. I wrote all settings down , but I do not have the Unlock code, And I cant find it, (ITS NOT 000000)Running a mogul.
the reboots are because you didnt unlock correctly.
i had the same problem, i had the new rom flashed but the phone wasnt unlocked right.
you have to run titanunlocker.bat first, follow the instructions then your boot loader should show 2.40.
as for the ESPT settings, you can get the unlock code by using the attached.
your ESN hex is what you need to input to the keygen.
should be under your device information, in your settings.
Roms restart right after I tap the the Welcome
Ok I locked it again, Loaded a fresh official 2.17. Connected to activesync unlocked again, loaded a DCD 2.2.0, then 3.27 radio, restarded, set it all up,
got to page with start tab(home screen) Then starts to restart( at the same point). Maybe I dont Have the right unlocker it says 2.40(when i open with winrar)
Thanks, im very new at this but you guys have help me all the way through.
I have successfully recovered my phone in every way possible. I mean every way. But still havent seen a rom work yet. I feel like IM close though
Roms restart right after I tap the the Welcome
The Spf unlocker that ive been running does not show 2.40 in bootloader after unlock, only 1.10. But when I open it with winrar I can see the olp2.40
should i look for a different one
When I load this spf on phone, from home pc the unlocker says if you see 1.10 unhook usb then reconnect
Roms restart right after I tap the the Welcome
maybe Im not understanding how to do a hard reset a hard reset
thanks for the spc getter worked perfectely

reverting to AP3 after failed AP4 upgrade --> customization reset loop

My first attempt to upgrade to AP4 did not succeed unfortunately (SPL to 3.50 upgrade went OK though), my power light stayed green and the display wouldn't come on.
So I took the Athena into bootloader and re-flashed back to AP3.
All seemed fine, the "Tap the screen to set up your device" screen appeared, I set it up and let the customization program run.
Unfortunately after the automatic reset at the end of the customization program, the device returned to the "Tap the screen to set up your device" and the customization program started again...
I tried interrupting the customization by soft resetting before it started executing itself, soft resetted during customization, let customization finish again (and again), but the device seems to be in an endless loop....
Any suggestions/help?
Thanks a lot in advance!
this happen because the spl and the kernel, AKA nk.exe, do not match. not sure what to do except try the new ap3 the cmonex posted **not sure if you tried that**
try the 3.0 cmonex posted and enjoy.
solved!
Thanks irus & Pawel062 (and cmonex!), that did the trick!
Probably not a bad idea to advise anybody who needs downgrading from AP4 to AP3 to use that rom. Download it from http://htc-hackers.com/uploads/ap3newspl.zip
See cmonex' thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386604

HEY ALL,
I WAS ALSO HAVING SOME ISSUES VERY SIMILAR TO THESE WHILE TRYING TO "DOWNGRADE" TO ANY ROM FROM AP 4.0. THIS IS GREAT INFO AS I BUILD MY OWN ROMS CONSTANTLY, SO I WAS A BIT WORRIED WHEN I COULDNT SWITCH AFTER TRYING AP 4.O, BUT THANKS TO CMONEX, IRUS, & PAWEL062, WE CAN DOWNGRADE A BIT EASIER!
THANKS AGAIN!

just flash it with normal RUU
I have this problem of the "looping" with the customizations. My problem is that I can't get the device to a state where it is "talking" to activesync and from what I see, I need that to push this ap3spl new file.
When you say "just flash it with normal RUU" can you tell me what that means please? (sorry, noob here...) I've spent hours on the forums, wiki etc and I'm a bit lost.
I'm "trying" to get AP4 w/WM6.1 onto the device.
Purchased unlocked (new) and used on AT&T for 6 months.
Went to update the radio to 1.57 and used the unlocker first. (took out SIM/SD first of course).
Got past step one and then got a black screen on reboot...
I got AP3 to load but now I get this fun looping.. Setup device, load customizations, reboot, and start over.
Sounds like this file in this thread is my fix to at least get AP3 working but not sure how to apply. Can I do it from the bootloader?
thanks in advance for putting up with me
Oh yeah:
My current state:
ATHE100
IPL - v2.02
ATHE100 MFG
SPL -v3.50 OliNex
Eureka!
Ok, I'm not a COMPLETE noob.. (close). I'm up and running. AP3 (new spl) loaded, then loaded AP4. Woo Hoo!
No GPS
Well, I guess I'm "Almost" back up and running.
Since step three never got kicked off, it looks like my GPS rom/radio never was rewritten back to the device.
Any help on how to get just the GPS portion back?
Endless loop after flashing AP4
I have a similar problem. My Dopod U1000 was running WM6 and I upgraded to
radio version 1.58.00 no problem. After flashing AP4 I am in a cycle where my initial boot screen has black and white lines at the top and black at the bottom
Then get the Windows Mobile 6.1 screen and after automatic customizing the
PDA resets itself. I have tried to flash the AP3newspl file but it cant communicate successfully with the synced PDA. Any help?

I have transferred enblerapi.cab to PDA and run it each time but when I flash
AP4 ROM or AP3newspl ROM I get an endless loop and my SPL stays v1.20
I cant seem to get a flash of SPL3.5 which I suspect is the problem.
Am I missing something?

Beta has expired.... What to do?

I have a Cingular 8125 G4 (IPL 2.25.0001; SPL 2.25.0001) that was upgraded to a WM6.1 ROM a few months back. Apparently it was based on a "beta" ROM, and it recently expired, leaving it unable to function with the expired message referred elsewhere here. So I figured just to reflash to another ROM, but does not work. It stays at the old 99% and never finishes. Now it will go into the tri-color (RUU) bootloader mode, but will not boot. I assumed this isn't "CID-unlocked" then, so read through postings here. Lokiwiz and the other tools to get around this either require an active ActivSync connection to upload a CAB file or just say the ROM tool is too old. What do I do at this point? The phone does not appear to be "bricked", yet I cannot seem to load a new ROM and to "CID-unlock" it requires it to be in WM sync.

You need to flashed a shipped ROM, hardspl and the flash the custom rom
Shipped ROM?
Okay... after extensive searching, I got lucky and found and flashed a wizard_love ROM and have a stock WM5 image on the beast. I then ran a downloaded hard_spl-G4 that seemed to do the samething but did something with the SPL. Looks like now SPL 2.21.olip. So now find a WM6.1 ROM to flash? Can one be had without the TouchFLo junk? I just like the WM6.1 today screen. It works well on my T-Mobile SDA, but I need the more PDA aspects of the Wizard.
Try WM 6.5 by XDA2 or Cracing, there are nice CLEAN ones which work great and look great
Got everything working WM61 Wizard G4
Thanks for the pointers... I got it fixed two days ago. This site is a blessing. Will donate this weekend for sure! Xda-developers is a work of inspiration that I will have to trawl more often.
