Bretheren -
I have a crazy problem that has been going on now for a week - neither the green "send" button nor the "answer" soft key will pick up the incoming call on the handset. I have no issue when I answer via my Jawbone. I am running No2Chem's '47 build, and when hard resetting, it works fine. Obviously something has changed in my registry since loading my progs.
Anyone have an idea if and where this setting is located in the registry? Thanks in advance!!!
Meat
Resolved with a hard reset and reload of proggies. I sure would like to know how to overcome this in the future, though, without having to resort to drastic measures.
samething happened to me, hard reset was my only cure, hasnt done it since...
i dont know what app was causing it but it happend to me only on 2.17
What apps did/do you have installed when you had this happening? I have it going on now - same exact thing... perhaps we can find the common app and determine what's doing it... here's my current load:
DCD Verizon 2.2.6
Skunkworks FlashVideoBundle
Google Maps
duttythroy Task Manager
KRebeiro EsmertecJbed
MediaHam
dcd Office Mobile 6.1
PHM Registry Editor
Schap's Advanced Config Tool
XFTeam SkinzSudoku
TCPMP
Singer's Creations Weather Watcher
.mUn. BT_DUN
ADW Standard Games
Yahoo! Go 2.0
WR-Tools ResInfo
dcd Adobe Reader 2.00
I have the same problem. I'm probably going to end up waiting and hard resetting when Sprint releases the upgrade ROM -- I'm too chicken to try a cooked ROM on my only phone.
It started sometime after installing one of these (I installed all 3 in the same night). I know, I know... Bad idea in the first place.
photocontacts_ppc_v305_ms_signed.cab - trial - my first bet since it took over the phone (uninstalled now, but still no fix)
Schaps_AdvancedConfig_v2.0.2.0.CAB
Kaiser Comm Manager 10 but.cab (uninstalled now, but still no fix)
Here are the other apps I have installed, but the list is so long it may not help at all. This is the list of installers and not the list of apps reported by uninstall. If I listed it as '(uninstalled)' then it was installed and removed since my last hard reset sometime last September.

I am betting it's this one:
Schaps_AdvancedConfig_v2.0.2.0.CAB
I flashed to a newer DCD after posting in this thread and I did NOT install the above program again - phone works like a champ.
I am not sure if it is the samething,....I used to have lots of problem with my phone. I've only used the DCD versions since 2.0.0 and was about to give up. However, when DCD released the 2.3.2 kitchen without the telus roms available at that moment. I though I would cook one up, and since then, I have not looked back. I install the same programs and it has been working perfectly for about a week now... {touch wood}
I used to have a lot of problem described in this thread as well as not connecting via active sync. Since then everything is working as it should.
So, I am not sure it it has to do with my own cooked rom...but it sure seems like it as my phone have never worked this good since I got it on day one.
Update::
I finally got tired of waiting for the new Official ROM while forcing my friends to wait for me to call them back and did a Hard Reset back to 2.09.651.3. Phone answers every call for me now! Wooo Whoo!! I need to perfect my skill at this hard resetting for when the new ROM is released. It took me 3 hours to finish getting everything set back like I wanted it, although kudos to the PPCPimBackupV2.8_wm2005.zip for saving my data (although I would have liked a warning that it will only restore email data AFTER you create the email account - doh!)
Again, these are the three apps that were installed just before my phone quit letting me answer calls. I didn't re-install these three after the hard reset:
photocontacts_ppc_v305_ms_signed.cab - trial - my first bet since it took over the phone (uninstalled now, but still no fix)
Schaps_AdvancedConfig_v2.0.2.0.CAB (uninstalled, but still no fix)

Oh poor apps, I had you installed for some reason. Maybe someday, I'll remember why and give you life again.
I am still trying to decide which contact manager to use. I'll probably try RandomAccess next...
I had a lot of apps installed and uninstalled before the problem surfaced. I'm now betting the culprit was the AdvancedConfig as it seems to be cropping up in too many of these broken answering "feature" threads.
Oh one more thing...
I installed the AdvancedConfig to my wife's phone before I received any calls to notice the problem and she has had no issues with non-answerable calls.
Only difference I could see was that in my phone, AdvancedConfig had settings for HSPDA and also for GPS enable and hers did not. The phones are supposed to be identical. We bought them at the same time, both had problems and got exchanged in the same week. Both of hers came with a differently oriented power supply (cord came out the side of the wall socket plug whereas mine hung down from the socket) even though they were picked up in the same store in the same week.
So while I am quick to blame AdvancedConfig, it's still installed in her phone and she has not had the issue.
schaaps seems to be the common denomiator here...
AdvancedConfig was my problem. Works after reinstalling.
Thanks,
Kizer
I had this issue many moons ago when titan for vzw was first out. It was AdvancedConfig 2. I have not tried any version after as I was afraid of the "not able to answer calls" issue. Goes without saying I have not had any issues since.

Hi guys. Been away for a while and now actually bought an xda 2. I have a few problems and hopefully someone can help.
My xda came with rom 1.72.181 with blackberry. Not being bothered about blackberry I downloaded (after a full backup) and installed 1.72.187. I didn't realise that a full restore from my backup would put the software back to 1.72.181, so had to hard reset and reinstall everything again. Both are backed up now so I can swap as and when I feel like it between 181 and 187. Both have a full setup of all my software, but I thought a restore would only put the software back, not the os and rom also, (like with my xda1). Anyone know how to reinstall software without overwriting the rom software version?
Next problem. What is the latest rom available on here (links please if known), and will updating it mean yet another full reinstall of all software.
Also, I have an occasional (too often though) problem where the touch screen stops working and the only way to get it back is to reboot. Anyone know what might be causing this. I can use the buttons and turn it on and off, but the touchscreen does nothing until I reboot. It happens with both roms, but I don't think its hardware related as the soft reset makes everything fine again.
I have removed just about everything from startup including ia caller id and all flashman stuff. I'm not even using it as a phone much because I mainly wanted it as a pda, but I have a payg sim in it for cross network calls (saves on my o2 bill). So mostly, the phone is turned off.
Any help you clever people can give would be much appreciated, (no suggestions involving hammers please). Oh yes, its about 3 weeks old as of this post date so not worn out yet. Lastly, there's no passwords set or any security setting that could be causing it as everything is on default.
Please help a desperate man.
TIA
:?
Your touch screen should work out of the box. If it's not working out of the box, then you may have a hardware conflict issue.
I don't know what do you use for backup, but a full restore usually restores the registry and filesystem.
For a different version ROM, the usual advice is to install your software from scratch again.
If you are handy with the registry, what you can do is:
(a) export the registry of your own ROM, cut & paste the portion that contains the registry settings for your installed software, usually under HKLM\SOFTWARE\...
(b) use your ActiveSync to reinstall the software again in your new ROM
(c) import the HKLM\SOFTWARE\.. registry that you have saved earlier.
If you are handy with OSP WinCAB Mgr, you can create a CAB file for this and makes your restoration easlier.
Have you fitted a scree protector to the phone, this can sometimes cause problems with the touch screen if the protector is too close to or tucked under the edge of the cover, this can be intermittent also.
Re: Help Please
Thanks for the interest.
I have done a full reinstall with both rom versions, so that problem is gone. Just wondered if there was any way to put the software back after a rom upgrade without a full reinstall of everything.
As for the screen problem. Like I said, I don't think it's hardware related as it s all fine after a soft reset. Hardware would usually mean that it still won't work after rebooting. It's like whatever software controlling the touch feature throws a wobbler and locks me out, but the buttons all work as normal when it happens. I'll list the software thats installed and if you're aware of any known conflicts, please tell me in a reply.
Calligrapher, Phatpad, Launcher (today plugin), Tascal regedit, Frequency tuner, SPB Fullscreen keyboard, Pocket Mechanic (1.49), and Tomtom 3.
Any ideas to help this very confused man.
More help please.
I have removed calligrapher and it seems to have stopped locking up. Problem now is what do I do about it.
Anyone know how to cure this. The program is no good if it has problems with 2003, (and I have tried both drivers, default and calligrapher) without success. Now I'm stuck.
Any suggestions.
A very frustrated man.
Calligrapher 7.4, For you're information
I have removed calligrapher 7.4 and installed version 7.2. Guess what, no freezes. I informed phatware support of this and the response was what else do I have installed. They don't seem to accept that the latest version is the cause of the problem. It must be something else. Probably a today plugin????.
I then installed version 7.3. No lockups. Put 7.4 back in, back to square 1 with the locking up. It seems that anything before 7.4 is ok. I have told phatware support of this, but they still don't accept that 7.4 is the problem, instead putting the blame on anything else but version 7.4.
OK, here's my question. Am I losing it, or would it be safe to assume that (seeing as the others work) calligrapher 7.4 has a problem. A simple deduction watson, given the overwhelming evidence. Remember that I also have an xda1 and its the same story on that too.
Sorry phatware, but I'm gonna stay with my other stuff and look at the alternative's to calligrapher until I can try another (later) version that works with my machines.
One sale lost I think. Anyone else having similar problems.
Hi guys
I've been facing since I bought my HTC Athena irregular freeze everyday.
I upgraded the Device to WM6 the next day I received it, it went very soomth with my applications installed.
However, the freeze appear very randomly, it could be while launching a new program, or playing backgammon, sometimes after device wake up, also once when received an SMS.
A very weird behavior also, is that sometimes I need to soft-reset 3/4 times in a row to get passed the HTC and the Windows Mobile splash screen.
For info, the soft-reset is not necessarly done after a freeze ....
I decided to start this new topic in order to see if other people are facing same symptoms on their Athena, and to share our experience together.
Cheers
Hope you run Oli's SPL Unlocker/patcher...

Sorry no such problems here, but did you run Olipro's SPL patcher/Unlocker before flashing thee ROM? I know tupsindin released a few WM6 ROMs a while ago that could be flashed without CID unlocking your X7500, but Olipro's Unlocker will make your device unbrickable.
If you have already done this, try flashing the new WM6 Dopod U1000 ROM seems very stable to me with no issues so far and slightly snappier than the other WM6 ROMs.
Thks mackaby for your reply
I did unlock it via the UK website I found on XDA forum, sorry but can't remember the name (soemthing IMEI), so I did that then flashed with the WM6 ROM ver 2.20.405.1
Im doing some more testing
what is really annoying is that I need to do 4/5 soft reset very ofently in order to pass by the HTC/Windows Mobile splash screen
I just bought my HTC Advantage X7500 with WM6 already installed and I have lock up issues if I have auto shutoff enabled it will not start backup after a auto shut off I keep using the reset to get it back up. When it is up I just disabled the auto shut off and now have no problems.
Im not having same pb as you, but I saw on one thread on XDA forums that people having that problem fixed it by assigning a the turn on/off device to a hardware button. and apparently it fixed their problem.
Try that and it must fix it for you

Hi,
I have encountered in the past this problem, and I observed that it was happening after I installed HTC X-Button v1.5, and it was even worse after HTC X-Button v1.51.
Later on, a new version was published, and it works flawlessly since. The exact file is HTC X-Button v1.51 build 30229.
Hope you have same issue. Good luck,
Zohar
Thks zoharbl for you reply
I don't have HTC x-button
For now, I found an alternative with Running Pocket Hack Master at 663 Mhz, and I modified the sequence for startup processes using SKTools putting Pocket Hack Master as #1 in the order, Wisbar Advance 3 as #2, SPB Diary as the last one and Norton Antivirus just before the last one.
I noticed that SPB Diary is slowing down a bit my device, and specially after a reset, this is because I created custom tab adding plugins inside this tab such Phone Alarm, SPB Weather and Resco Explorer Plugin ...
I tried many config, and found out this one works the best for me, the device is resetting with less then 30 sec without any hanging anymore.

Really interesting comment. I have original WM5 configured UK Ameo and have always experienced random crashes. After reading this, I looked again at my settings and found the X-button configured - I don't need it as I use the same functionality from Wisbar. Turned it off and it hasn't crashed since.

Hi there BigDede
Don't know if this will help...
Even since before I have upgraded to WM6 I have had problems similar to yours. At the time I had WA3 and WAD installed as well as Spb Weather, Spb Diary and certain parts of Pocketplus. I did a trail and removed all software from Spb and Wisbar and everything worked perfectly. In the meantime I have now only added Spb Mobile Suite and use iLauncher on my today screen together with the plugin from Resco Explorer - no more problems!
It seems to me that some of the above software have compatibilty issues with the U1000/Athena/Ameo (whether wm2005 or wm6 makes a difference I don't know).
Cheers
Thks Superdawie for your reply, you are right, I was suspecting Wisbar, SPB Diary abd phoneAlarm to be the origin of my problems.
But as I said previously, I found a workaround to make the Athena runs ok by playing with the order of startup programs. It's been more then one week without any freeze

Same for me, working well on WM6 since I turned X-Button 1.51 off.
In WM5 I had this problem all the time as WM5 totally sucks!
In WM6 I only experienced this problem when programs "collided" due to timing issues as you've found out. By changing the load order or timing of some applications (some programs have it built right in like SmallMenu....it's resolved all of my lock up issues, etc. Most of the problems can be resolved by playing around with the software you have loaded, as you found out. Not sure if it's because of a crappy OS or because of crappy coding by the developers of the software we're installing...maybe both.
Well I have had to do a hard reset and one flash in the last 2 weeks. I am beginning to lose my mind I guess.
The first time after I did the install. The phone works fine for a few days, then it Sloooooows down to a creeping level. It would freeze from time to time and would take forever to open a program. I thought PhotoContacts Pro 5 caused this. So I did a Flashed after the phone froze all the time on the Splash screen just about to load Windows. But after that I reinstalled all my programs and it worked fine for a few days then it went back to freezing again, taking an eternity to Open any program. And mark you, I did not install PhotoCOntacts this time. I did a hard reset and reinstalled everything again, and since yesterday, it's been doing the same thing again. My Ram is always free, like 10- 15 MB left when running. Coz I use one program at a time. So, please what could I be doing wrong? Am I skipping something. I never had this problem with dcd 3.0.4.
Any insight is highly appreciated.
Thank you
Can you list the programs you have installed? And what do you have built into ROM. did you use Kitchen or Prebuilt?

With that big of a list, your best bet will probably be to load a few at a time, use it for a couple of days to see if the problem recurs, so you can narrow it down. There are some programs that don't play well with 6.1.
I also notice you say you have onenote listed. That is already included with msoffice apps in dcd's kitchen. Maybe installing on top has caused a problem with this or some other app?
Yup, limit down on the apps/util that always have a process running -- ie. HTC apps & the cube. Plus, a lot of your others often have a today item running, so close those down.
Most of us go after no less than 16-18 MB (or better) after a re-boot. With you at only 10-15MB free, you have plenty running that the rest of us choose to do without.

I have used most if not all of these apps except for PPC-6800 (not sure what it is) Hers the ones I had to cut out.
HTC Home - seemed no matter what version i used it ate speed and memory. I use the time/date format on the top bar and wisbar adds battery status. I use pocket weather with custom skin as thats primarily what i used the home plugin for.
HTC Taskmanager (X-Button) - phone ran much better without it, had better luck with wisbar lite of full.
Yahoo Go - I have never had this work well, on any phone...
HTC Cube - While it may not continuously eat ram, it does use 2 to 3 meg after you fist use it. I use the GL version and close it with task manager after using it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358102&highlight=cube
Voice Command - If it is the MS version it uses 1 to 2 meg and can lock up. Generally i don't have problems with it but it does consume ram.
One I see you don't have that caused me issues was Schap advanced config util. After i ran it i wouldn't be able to answer incoming calls among other issues.
Another question would be; are you syncing e-mail? how much and how many accounts? I have found if i sync less days it helped with stability(although its probably just me). I sync to an exchange server, gmail, and yahoo.
i've had a few issues with 3.1.2 that i didn't have with 3.0.4 either. Radio is still the same i had on both builds..i'm using 3.37 from Alltel's OEM Radio/Rom. I haven't quite researched how to update to Radio 3.39 from my SD, so that's why i'm still with 3.37.
My problems are these:
1) Anytime i'm in Roaming and get a call, a big screen comes up and says "Roaming Charges May apply". I've never had that before.
2) When i'm on the phone and someone calls in, the loud call waiting buzz comes up, but if i ignore it, and let the user leave a voicemail, it cuts my current call off. It seems to do it worse if/when they leave a voicemail.
3) When i'm on the phone i was under the impression that data was knocked off. I've never had this problem before, but now if i'm on the phone, my phone shuts off if/when an email comes in.
4) GPS isn't even close. when i flash back to 3.0.4 it's right on. For some reason with 3.1.2 it's 20-30 miles off. Really weird.
5) Weird again because this shouldn't be a Rom issue, but my signal is totally lower than it was with 3.0.4
no biggies, i can go back to 3.0.4 because it was very solid, but here are a few of my issues.
Thanx everyone
Edit:
I decided to wait a whole day and see, after carrying out all the advice I was given. Well the problem still persists and still takes long to open programs. I have decided to go back to 3.0.4. That was more stable for me. Hopefully it will let me downgrade.
Has anyone compared DCDs newest ROM (3.3.4) to the latest nueROM3? Now that Scrosler is no longer going to produce new ROMs for us, I am running Update 20 of Manila 2D on nueROM3 (produced via kitchen). However, just curious how that compares, as far as stability goes, to DCDs latest. I always liked DCDs work, but had to start using nueROM awhile ago because of memory.
Anyone ran the latest of these two and can offer an unbiased opinion?
I've been doing my own M2D+nueROM3 for a while now.
I have to say, if you spend the time and patience, you can end up with a beautiful build. I'm very happy with mine right now.
As far as comparing to DCD 3.3.4, I haven't messed with 3.3.4 and refuse to do so without the kitchen.
Do you have an opinion on the new PocketIE yet?
scrawnyb: I'm finding the same thing so far, not too bad with latest nueROM3 + Manila 2D Update 20, but since DCDs ROMs are usually very stable, just wanted to see what others thought.
Personally, I think the new IE looks good, but it is just TOOOOO slow! Obviously was designed for a machine with more memory. So most of the time I just stick with Opera Mini; however, there are times when I have to use IE simply because the site only works on IE, or it is simply safer to use a stand-alone browser (like when going to mobile bank site). Personally, I wish I could reinstall the old IE Mobile - you know of a way to do that with nueROM3?
I perfer nuerom's memory management over DCD 3.3.4. Not to mention being able to turn the camera off and start at 28 megs free.
After trying both for a week without M2D installed and a week with M2D installed I find that 3.3.4 has pretty much no memory leaks, where 3pre3 had terrible memory leaks. 3.3.4 would boot for me at about 27 Mb and after a few days wold only leak down to 25 at idle (few days without a soft reset). Same situation with 3pre3 would have me booting at 32 Mb and leaking down to about 25 after a few days (no soft reset either).
With M2d installed and configured how I like, 3pre3 would boot at 26Mb and would leak down to about 21 Mb by the end of the day. 3.3.4 with the exact same configuration boots at about 21Mb and after a few days has not leaked down past 20 Mb.
I took all memory samples the same way: Fresh installs of ROMs, added my preferred cabs (Java, one game, skyfire, etc...) soft reset then waited for full boot. Closed all programs in task manager and used oxios hibernate. Then after a few days, just soft reset and used oxios hibernate. Then I did the same process, (I started with a hard reset on both ROMS) and installed the same apps and then M2D without opera mobile.
Only thing I wished I would have done was to take screen shots so I could have posted them.
Although 3pre3 does have more RAM at boot in both cases,I think I am still going to run 3.3.4 until the next version of nuerom comes out to try. I dont mind soft resetting every day, but if i ever forgot to with 3pre3 i would eventually get some out of memory error messages until I reset. So far after about a week with 3.3.4 I have not had any error messages after a few days just closing apps down, no reset.
DCD just has rock solid ROMs, what more can we say but a big Thank you?
I forgot to mention that 3pre3 with camera enabled had less available RAM than 3.3.4 in both cases. Only 1~2 Mb difference but it was worth mentioning.
Also I cooked different versions of ROMs with M2d in the kitchen and they were the absolute worst on memory leaks. I still use cab installs from the M2d thread, still using update 19b files and procedure. seems to work good on my device.

Agreed very nice work I used nueROM3 and DCD and am sticking with 3.3.4 but thats just my two cents
My testing may be skewed slightly and I apologize. I cooked MSVC into 3pre3 and have been reading that has a few memory leaks. 3.3.4 has no voice command, and it would not be fair to add a cab VS. cooking with an oem between the two ROMs. I also added MS office apps for work by cab to 3pre3, although they did not seem to have any memory leaks as far as I could tell.
I was trying to be as subjective as possible, but those were two Items I had completely forgot about this morning when I typed this
Also, if running M2D I always disable the weather, search and music tabs as I launch programs from the launcher tab to do these tasks. The weather tab alone causes much memory leakage and always has since I first ran M2D. Also I quit installing Opera mobile because it hogs memory and messes with HTML file opening, so I have been using the new M2DC program to map the internet tab to opera mini, which runs great.
When it comes down to it, I guess it is hard to compare two great ROMs from different builders as for the end user (me in this case) the programs were installed differently with different versions in different ways.
Sorry if I mislead anybody, but my setup with 3.3.4 seems to be more stable still. Maybe I should write a tutorial for how I got my device set up with success I really have not done anything super fancy with programming, and have not touched the reg editor with either rom. I think the average user like me would benefit from using DCD's latest if they like M2D.
Just my .02
I tried 3.3.4 for a few days after using pre3 for about a month. I always like DCD ROMs, but I also like having more memory. On 3.3.4, I found that windows mobile would close opera when I changed opened other programs, while this would happen less so with pre3.
A few days later, the new nueROM came out. I tried it for a few days, but the internet explorer drove me crazy. I use Beyondpod for podcasts, and that program is based on internet explorer. It changed Beyondpod layout (which I learned how to fix in the registry), and seemed to have more connection problems.
So now I am back to pre3. My biggest complaint is nueROM has that touch-like finger scrolling, which I hate cause it means I can't highlight. I've looked high and low over the internet to no avail.
as far as memory leaks, I have to phone set up to reset every 4am (and close my flashcard program). I never really checked to see how much leaking there is, and just started the daily resets a couple of days ago.

TUTORIAL PLZX!
Well, after reading all this, I think I am going to reflash and give the new DCD ROM a try. Although nueROM3 is great, I also think there is some memory leaks somewhere - I go from 25MB sometimes down to 13MB with nothing but M2D loaded, even without VC - plus, I hate the new IE! It is so VERY slow - I use Opera Mini but for the times I absolutely need to use IE I can't with this new version.
I'll let you know what I think once I run it for awhile.
Well, I am thinking about going back the other way, as when I installed windows live cab I always use, it really ****ed up my contacts. it attached all my onlive hotmail contacts to existing entries in my phonebook, none of which were correct. This means windows live (3 different current versions I have tried) messenger does not work, as does dialing by name. there are too many additions to the contact list. I hard reset 3.3.4 and reloaded all my contacts and went through the whole install again and it still occurs.
Great ROM, but tha twas a deal breaker. I think I may try 3pre3 again, but try tweaking it all i can to keep those memory leaks down. At least then I can keep my contacts seperated
I am not writing a tutorial here, that was kind of a joke. there are tutorials for loading cabs for any program you would like on here, just search and find them. Me finding problems weeks after loading roms is why I am no developer by any means. Saved you all the hassle of re-writing your contcts!

Windows live synced contacts IS a major snafu. But hey, you get what you pay for. I use my Exchange for all my contacts. Never a problem.
Whenever I install windows live I ALWAYS uncheck sync contacts. The problem is that everytime you open up contacts on the mogul, it starts an internet connection to sync with your Live contacts. So your contacts look empty until it syncs. This can take a LONG time.
Hope this helps...

XDA member tends to lean toward DCD because he releases his work here and is more geared toward stability.
If you start same same exact post over at ppcgeeks, I bet nueROM is preferred by users, cause he releases overthere.
bottomline
DCD = lean solid ROM, no flashy junk that usully causes leaks and problem ; for advance users
NueTOM = ROM with nice goodies; but goodies comes with baggage (i.e. few memory leaks, occasional crashes, soft reset); recommended for intermediate users.
Well, I am thinking myself about going back to nueROM. Not that I don't like DCDs work - it is great - but with 3.3.4 there still seems to be some memory leaks (keeps going down). I also heard that DCD kinda rushed the 3.3.4 release just to get it out there because of the pressure. Plus, I love the extra memory that nueROM gives me.
However, the one thing that really bugs me with nueROM is that in his latest unified kitchen he included that stupid new mobile IE browser - that thing is the slowest pig in the world! I use Opera Mini for most of my browsing, but when I do need IE it is just too frustrating. Would rather keep the old IE on there. Anyone know if there is a cab somewhere that will replace the new IE with the older mobile IE version.
Anyway, I may go back to nueROM for the time being but when DCD makes his next new ROM then I may try it again.

I found this on the nueruom thread. I tried it with the latest neurom, and internet explorer seemed to work like the old IE. That of course didn't help me. My problem is with BeyondPod, my podcast player, which relies on IE for it's formatting. That was still messed up. So I am using nueROM pre3, which has the old IE. I am addicted to the extra RAM.
if using a kitchen, remove the folder BROWSINGIE from the core before cooking. The browser defaults to pIE instead of IE6.
Apparently, IE6 is just a bunch of plugins and junk that sits atop pocketIE. If you remove them, pie is still there.
Works better this way than installing a .cab, and I've found myself able to do all the stuff that ie6 broke (flash bundle, logmein, etc).
nueCPL Kernel
Hi all,
I just tried the nuerom -m for titan. Earlier I was on DCD 3.3.4, which i think is better than nuerom. One feature that i liked in nuerom is of - disabling camer and using high memory by nueCPL kernel. Is this possible on DCD Rom 3.3.4. It fress up almost 5mb of Ram and camera is used very rarely so it can be disabled. Any body to help.
Regards
Tarun
no you cannot rescue the RAM that the camera uses in dcd roms.
Hi all - first post on xda - please be gentle ;-)
Can anyone suggest what may be the most stable setup on the HD2? the constant freezing is starting to make the phone unusable for me as I use it for work and before I move to something else I thought I'd ask some advice on a better setup.
I have had WM machines (pocket PC) for a long while mainly Ipaq and my last 4150 worked for years without a hitch - couple of screen taps and any info I needed was there quickly mainly excel spread sheets e-mails and schedule, the thing never missed a beat in years. The HD2 seemed the ideal phone replacement.
I have not gone mad with the phone it is pretty stock with a couple of usable mods (CHT and editor etc) every day or so, maybe twice a day I press the on button to bring up the lock screen and it freezes - always when I need it most - it freezes in a particular way ie I can see the taskbar at the top, MENU and PHONE on the bottom (which "react" when pressed but do not bring up the function) and blank screen in between - it needs a soft reset - I have installed the endkey long press which works but this always happens when I need the information quickly and waiting for it to reboot is not quick enough
I would dearly miss co0kies home tab and the couple of mods but if a standard ROM is the best so be it (was going to try the vodafone 1.72 ROM) - or is there a real stripped down ROM that is simple and stable removing all the baggage on the standard ROM. I've never done it but I'm not averse to having a go at cooking a ROM if it will get me what I need
I use all the "business" type functions - dont need twitter/facebook/footprints etc would really use the documents Tab
ROM 1.66.405.2 (76641) WWE
Radio 2.06.51.07
Manila 2.5.19211619.0
Co0kies home tab 1.8.5
CHT editor 1.8.5.1
Resco Registry add in
Resco explorer
Skype
SPB Backup
Avian waves BattlineSvc
Microsoft .NET CF 3.5
Windows marketplace
Each time it locks up I'm getting fed up of friends/colleagues swiping their Iphones at me going "look! mine doesn't do that"
I like the HD2 I'd like to be able to say "but yours doesn't do all this" with all the extra capabilities - instead I seem to be always rebooting - waiting for sense to launch
I don't want to lose the HD2 and its capabilities but If I cant get it to be a bit more stable the Desire is looking tempting or even (wash my mouth out with soap) an Iphone?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be really appreciated
My hd2 became unstable when i had cookies home tab, its been solid as a rock since I uninstalled it, give it a go, I don't miss it anyway.
oh, and if they want proof, my friend has had the same locking up issues on 6 replacement iphones. it crawls to a halt then refuses to react, so he has to wait until the battery goes flat as he can't reset it...
You might want to try moving up to the 1.72 wwe rom and try that with and without cht, perhaps even try rolling back to an older version of cht.
I used to suffer the lockscreen freezing on the stock 1.66 rom.
I cant remember if it persisted after moving to the 1.72 im afraid, I dont think it did though.....
Does it only freeze when using the cht lockscreens?
HardSPL your phone and flash-

CHT works fine along with anything else I have thrown at the ROM!
Stable as a rock and is an excellent dive board into Android as well.
For extra "cut down" disable sense and run Resco today plug-in as your home screen.
I used to flash numerous times a week, but, I haven't changed a thing since 16th Aug and that's a record.
what version of CHT are you using as i had to revert back to v1.7 due to the latest one giving me problems...i would suggest to upgrade your Rom to 1.72 start fresh again and install all necessary apps you need one by one that way you can analyse if certain apps are conflicting causing the frezzing problem that you have ....if that doesnt work try a custom rom.

On the iPhone tell him to hold the sleep button + the home button for a few seconds... That should do the trick.
i had the exactly same issue on my second hd2 and had my phone sent in (also vibracall was sounding abnormally), i should get it back this week. i hope CHT works then, my first hd2 never had problems like that....
Thanks indeed for the info I did have a sneaky suspicion that CHT may be a problem, I will try the stock 1.72 and maybe try a few things one at a time see if it helps thanks again
ive had problkems that sound like that, the lockscreen disapears and you can see the screen you have behind, except you still have to slide to unluck . with the vbn rom my lockscreen problems dispaeared complelty. it still seemed to suffer from memory issues but for the most part it was stable.
i hardly use windows mobile anymore, as android is way more fun, and it never complains about not having anough memory
I would suggest couple of things:
- make sure, that all the additional icons (if any) and wallpapers used are in phone memory, i.e. not on sd card.
- using bsb tweaks You can disable wm 6.5 lockscreen and give s2u2 a try
