Windows Mobile 6.1 on New Sprint Rom?? - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

I know there has to be a way to add Windows Mobile 6.1 to the new Sprint Rom. Can someone tell me how to add it or do I have to wait for someone to cook up a ROM?

Thaks for helping out another fellow membr.
.....But he can't be serious.

If you crack open your phone, pull the ROM chip, place it in a EEPROM burner, then enter the following code, you'll have 6.1.
01010101 00101101 01010000 10101111 01011001 01010011 11010010 10000111 11101010 10101011 01010010 10101010 10000010 10100111 11101101 11100011 00010111 01010101 01011001 10101101 10001110 01010111 01010101 00001101 11111101 01010101 01111111
(Guess I should've done that in HEX instead of binary....not that I know what the heck I'm talking about...haven't burned an EEPROM in over a decade.)
Yes, maybe a bit rude, but I'm sure you are learning a valuable lesson here. There are no stupid questions......just people who are too lazy to put forth any effort whatsoever.

Surely, you jest?

maybe im asking the question wrong or there is something I don't uderstand. I am new to this and I did install one of dcd roms on my phone, but the new sprint rom came out yesterday. Everything is working fine on my phone finally. I just don't have Windows 6.1 like I used to. Is there a file I can download to upgrade or do I have to totally install a different rom?

You have to download a different ROM. You can't do an upgrade to your existing ROM to take it from 6 to 6.1.

6.1 just came out recently so Sprint did not have time to include it in their recent release. To get 6.1 you will need to flash a custom ROM such as DCDs.

Straight up answer
Unlike regular programs the OS is built into the ROM the only way to upgrade the OS is to Build it into the ROM.

Developers Rom

I have an SX56 from Siemens, and have downloaded the special developers edition ROM. I am wanting to upgrade my phone, but am a little nervous about not being able to use AT&T after the upgrade. Is there anything special that I need to do prior to upgrading the xDA (like writing down settings)?
Eventually I think I may want to switch to T-Mobile...
I suggest you visit the "SX56 GPRS Online Setup Guide", anyhow its always a good idea to note your settings before doing any type of upgrade.
SX56 GPRS Online Setup Guide http://support.attwireless.com/awswls/support/devices/siemens/sx56/setup_guides/ppc2002.jsp
Also its a good idea to do a hard reset before you upgrade and "not" to do
a restore from backup after your done (do a fresh / reinstall all of your programs).
HTH
I would also advise a backup of your existing rom to sd card before flashing a new rom.

T-Mobile
How have you found the T-Mobile service to work in Vegas? I have found MANY holes with the AT&T service that result in dropped calls...

The T-Mobile service works great in Vegas & Henderson!
Whereabouts in Henderson do you live (Green Valley, the Downtown Henderson area etc..)?
Henderson
Actually I live in Green Valley not too far from GVP and Sunset... I'm gonna go home tonight and try flashing the phone... although I realized I don't have access to a Unix machine... Guess I'll need to have one of my Unix Admin buddies compile this for me! Unless there's an image already out there?

Great!
What method are you planing on using to flash with?
Also no need for a Unix machine you download it from:

BTW I forgot to ask what radio stack is your SX56 running?

Phone ROM
Actually I am not sure what version it was... I was running the A.020.xx firmware upgrade... I was able to successfully install the developers ROM, unlock my phone and now have switched completely to T-Mobile..
Now I got a new version of firmware from T-Mobile's website... I attempted to upgrade my phone to that, but had some problems.. What version of firmware are you running?
Radio Stack
Actually I just looked, and my radio stack is A.20.10...

To install that T-Mobile update you'll have to run adaptROM first.

You may click the link and read the thread from 1st page till last page, you'll find out, whats the benefits and the disadvantage of using WM6 rom, if you like it, download it, and if you dont like it, just leave it and its your choice what to do next, wm5 or wm6,.

jjlwork custom Telus ROM

This is my first ever custom rom that I am sharing. I used Dogguys kitchen with the leaked sprint rom and some customizations from DCD's Kitchen to create this. Let me know if you find any bugs or if you want anything added/removed and I will see what I can do.
Directions:
If you've already upgraded to any GPS enabled rom just drop the file in the Rom Update utility and flash away, otherwise the same directions posted for the other GPS enabled roms apply, you must install Hard-Spl 2.40 and the 3.27 radio.
Note: This is not packaged like other posters roms, I don't know how to do that yet.

When you say it isn't packaged, what comes in it? Does it even have office or anything else? Can you use an mp3 or mp4 as a custom ringtone? Does the EVDO icon come on? Is everything working fine in it for a TELUS customer like us?
I flashed back to default because I loved gps, but wasn't ready to stay with it with those issues.
If they work, I'll use it.

By not packaged I mean it doesn't come in a nice little self extracting file.
You can use whatever windows mobile supports for ringtones
EVDO icon does come on and everyitng is working fine for me. It is basically the same experience as the offical Telus with GPS (excep it would have all the fixes that the sprint rom provides like bluetooth and alarm issues.
Kudos on the Telus rom !
We need more of em ! Not that i'm saying DCD's kitchen is bad or anything. It is nice to have a mix of choices....
But I find the leaked rom a little buggy ?

that could be because the leaked rom is still just a beta rom, not fully done this was just supposed to be released to official testers afaik. But maybe they leaked the rom on purpose so we could find more bugs?

I'm not sure what you're saying it is the leaked rom.
I'll try it out right now, then!

How's the rom working out?

Is there a way to back up existing ROM?

I'm giving up on WM6 because of the missing DUN (and a T9 bug).
I have another 3125 with the original ROM in it.
Is there a way that I can back up that ROM to my PC and install it to "upgraded" phone?
If not, is the original ROM available anywhere? I've been googling for two days and nothing. The closest thing is the AKU 3.4 from HTC which is missing DUN as well.
I've tried the WM6_BT_DUN cab file and that didn't help.
rom
do a search on this rom
RUU_STAR100_4.1.502.5_02.79.30_CWS_SHIP.exe
it is the cingular wm5 release

Thanks lewnetoons, I saw that ROM on the wiki, but I'm under the impression this is the DUNless version of WM5. Am I wrong?
rom
I'll have to load it on my phone this weekend and let you know if it has the dun, I think it does but it has been a while since I loaded a wm5 rom, will get back to ya.

That's very nice of you but please don't do that just to help me. I'd feel terrible if shyt happened while you were flashing. You know, there are hundreds of billions of lightning bolts in Florida every day....
Seriously, I'll check it myself and let you know of the results. That's very cool of you to offer.

OK, I tried this ROM and there is no DUN just PAN.
Now how about a way to backup the whole ROM from a phone to install it in another phone?

try this one, has the wireless modem program

Thanks lewnetoons, I couldn't find this file, but I ended up switching phones with my wife and now I'm back with DUN. Pain in the butt, but a solution nonetheless.

Can I use Kaiser ROMs on my Niki?

ie. Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid UC RTM ??
I guess I could just flash and see lol!! but if anyone has any experience of doing this, let me know
thank you
No, you will have an expensive door stop!
no, each ROM specifically designed for certain device.
do not ever flash the one that's not designed for your device, else ur device will become an expensive brick.
You could flash one but you need to get the rom you want then take the nikis XIP and port it onto that rom. You cannot flash a rom made for another device it just wont work.
