Hi,
I own a car charger for my AT&T 8525, but on long trips my GPS bluetooth receiver is always running out of power (I just have one power-out in my car!)
I found an old mini USB Y-Adapter from Motorola in my collection of cables. Can I use this adapter to charge my 8525 and my bluetooth receiver at the same time? I would like to get confirmation before I try it, because I don't want to damage my device (maybe the wires are different because the adapter is from Motorola?!).
Hope one of the experts here can help me
Thanks in advance!
I personally would buy fom local electrical/car store a dual power adaptor that plugs into the power outlet. Bought one a while back for $15aud. This does mean you require another power adaptor for your GPS but I find they generally supply that with the reciever... Cheers...

Does anyone know where I can buy the plug that plugs into the bottom connector for an XDAIIs?
I've asked everyone I can think of, searched Google, Maplin(UK) and Expansys and I can't find one.
It's probably because I don't know the correct name for it!
Ideally, I'd like one that has all 22 connections and even cables attached - they look really hard to solder onto by hand!
Any information would be greatfully received
Thanks

http://www.gomadic.com/connectors.html sells connectors
Wallaby, Himalaya are compatible with HP iPAQ Connector Plug Assembly (19/22/38/39/41/43/51/54/5500 Series)
but read that the plug of BlueAngel is not exactly the same.
I purchased an XDA II car charger from the O2 shop in Manchester - it came with a plug that works fine with my XDA2s - have used it on the car charger and on the supplied power lead - charges fine.
When I got my IIs, it CAME with the plug already, any standard car charger can plug right into that plug and then the IIs... You sure you guys didn't get it?????
I think you mis-understood me - I'll try again!
I have developed a complete installed car kit for XDA, XDAII and IIs that does the following.
Mutes stereo when in call and puts all sound to front speakers
Can put navigation commands through the stereo
Hooks up to external microphone
Has PS2 (Holux) and RJ11 (TomTom and Leadtek) GPS connections
Charges device
I'm trying to get hold of a connector with 22 connections because I have one problem left.
To switch the car kit on, I either need a 5V feed from the device OR need to be able to put 5V in on one pin and get 5V out of another.
If anyone can help with either the connector or letting me know which pins I might be able to use send me a mail please
Thanks

have you tried RS componets or CPC.?
¿Do you know if the MiniUsb to headphone connector on the Herald is a standard??
I've been looking for an adapter and I've found some Motorola Headphones that connect through mini USB interfase, but don't know if it's goin' to work on my Herald.
¿Can anyone help me?
Thnx in advance
my razor (motorola) headphones do not work on my herald, however, you can check ebay for a usb to headphone converter for the wing or herald, i have one and it works fine.
this might be a big bump, but this is why it wont work.
HTC devices use something called extUSB, which, evidently, is miniusb but better i guess. You will want to ebay search for that,
on ebay.. search term "wing" choose cellphone accessories>> headsets-corded>> u will get some... most are 1.99 with 4.99 shipping (us dollars)

This one works well for me:

I plug it into the usb audio/power adapter that came with my Wing, then plug the car power adapter into the adapter, and a Belkin 3.5 to stereo RCA cord into my Pioneer receiver... Charge my Wing as I drive while MortPlayer entertains me
Slightly old thread, but I figure it's worth clarifying this a little.
The Harold and Wing's connector has extra pins which provide analog input and output from the headset. I don't believe it uses any of the USB side's pins.
The adapter above will work for conventional headphones. I don't know of any adapters for MOT's miniUSB connector headsets (I highly doubt you'll ever see one) or even a full 2.5mm headset (although that shouldn't be hard to fabricate).
So I've had my Hero less than a month and the usb lead has deteriorated near the phone's connection end a fair bit.
My question is: Would a normal mini USB lead work in the charger? Also if I bought a standard mini usb as a replacement, does it have any dis-advantages to the official HTC cable / connection?
I've seen a few official HTC Hero connection cables on ebay but a standard mini usb would be a lot cheaper and if it doesn't have any dis-advantages, I might as well just get one of those.
Any help would be great!
i use any mini usb that comes to hand and i still get the same charging as the official usb
so, in short, no it doesnt make a difference
The socket on the Hero has extra pins for audio/video than a normal Mini USB. On the Hero this can be used for connecting a headset or a (second) pair of headphones.
Charging and data transfer do not need the extra pins and can use a normal Mini USB connector.
I don't know why the cable included by HTC has the extended plug with the extra pins, because they don't seem to be used (the other end is a regular USB plug, no headset/headphones). It just means you can't use that cable on any non-HTC device. I just use normal Mini USB cables for it anyhow.
Thanks for the help guys! Very much appreciate it.
Ha. I had no idea you could charge it with standard USB cables until I saw this thread, what great news! I hadn't tried plugging one in until now, just assumed the different shape socket would mean it couldn't work. Excellent.
I'm using the original USB adapter that came with my AT&T Tilt Two and it had been working great until about three days ago. My phone and wired headset gets a lot of use and since I had an AT&T Tilt I, had problems with the USB port, I use the adapter on this phone for absolutely everything! At any rate, if the adapter is bent in the wrong direction, the connection is lost in one headphone. I know it's just a loose wire, but it's not worth it to me to take this little thing apart just to fix a wire, so I'm wondering if,
1. Anyone knows where I can get the original USB adapter with the charging, 2.5mm, 3.5mm, and USB Headset connections.
2. Anyone has a better idea than the original adapter. If anyone out there uses something else to charge and listen to music/talk on their phone, please let me know. I have a feeling that if I get another original adapter, it will happen again the way I use my phone.
Thanks for your help

StarTech UUSBMUSBMF Micro USB to Mini USB 2.0 Adapter M/F
Okay so if you bought a charger for your G1, MyTouch etc that uses the MicroUSB port then this converts it to the MiniUSB used on the mytouch Slide.
Don't know if it works for the Video out also since I did not buy that for my g1
but it works with all the other stuff I have for it.

I would compare other sites too to see if you can get it for less.
I bought an adapter one day because I needed to charge my phone and only had a mini USB cable available at work (town of 8K people).
Buying micro cables is worth it, but get some retractable ones. Micro is the cable all phones will be using for quite some time.
Yep I know.
Well I use my old G1 charger at work and normally used it to charge my G1 or the Mytouch(nonslide), in the car also the V3razor car charger, and the tomtom GPS power on my other car, then at home I have the mytouch usb in the kitchen and then have the new one in the bedroom, all them have the cables so I don't have to carry the new cable all around. Just a little adapter. Beats the cost of having to buy a new car charger for both cars and new charger for work.
Here's a neat little charger I found!

Yeah, I bought a few of these Motorola adapters for $0.99 each on eBay. $6 total to keep one in the car, one at home and one at the office.
You can also get Micro USB cables themselves @ Monoprice for real cheap. I got 2 3ft, 1 6ft and 1 USB Car Adapter for about $6.
I get the point that there are many USB cables yet this little device if you are like me that have a G1, a mytouch 32B, v3 razor, Tmo Dash, ect devices that you already have the cables and stuff for this lets you convert those cables into the MT3G Slide.
Now the question that I have is will this work with TVOut? being that I dont have that for even my g1 I cant test it but if anyone does might be worth a shot.
I like the niceness of just switching a tip without the need to grab a new cable for my phones. Hey what can I say? im lazy.
