soft reset nike help - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus ROM Development

ok, i've searched, but there's sooo many threads with 'soft reset' in it's daunting. i just want to know if i can soft reset my niki without an app installed? if not, is there an app to do this single task, not a cluttered app like wisbar/lite/wk etc.?
thanks, sorry if i've missed an obvious thread and feel free to flame!!

eheheh.
just long-press the power button. it will turn your phone off. then long-press it again

hi, thx, i know that one, just wandered if any other way? as this completely restarts phone. the apps just seem to reboot it quicker?

The long power off press is best, you can do the more tedious take off the cover, use your stylus at an angle near the usb port and reach the soft reset button.

ahh, thx all

No buttons on the phone dialler screen

Hi guys,
I upgraded my phone a while back using c_shekhar's excellent ROM. I've just come back to using the phone again and after charging the phone up from completely dead I now get no buttons on the phone dialler skin. If you use the stylus where the buttons should be you do hear the keypad tones, just there are no visible buttons. I've tried several things, such as changing themes and resetting the phone (although I cant remember how to hard reset the phone) but none of this has worked. Anyone had this, or have any ideas? I did search the forum and found loads of posts on buttons and screens but nothing to help me out.
Cheers
There is a soft button (bottom left) when you are on the dial page that says keypad. Is that still there? I assume you have already checked this and pressed it, but perhaps not. It may have been renamed due to the skin you are using, removed, or perhaps you changed it yourself at some stage accidentally.
Let us know if this helps.
There is no keypad soft button. However, if I just hit random places where the buttons should be, and then press the physical call button, the phone dials the number and then the keypad soft button appears (although just the text appears, not the button itself).
Is there a way to hard reset this phone with the WM2005 ROM? I have tried what used to work on the factory installed O2 ROM (holding the power button and using the stylus to press the reset button), but this doesn't seem to do the trick as all my details and info are still there when it fires up again.
I have also taken the battery out and left it for a couple of days to let the backup battery die too. This hasn't helped.
it appers that the dialer is corrupted..try to hard reset else try other Dialer skins..search the forum's for them

Hard Reset Verizon Touch Pro

I have a Verizon Touch Pro and the phone wont boot into windows. I tried this but it wont hard reset...
"With the device turned on, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN and CENTER buttons, then press the RESET button with the stylus tip.
Continue pressing the RESET, VOLUME DOWN and CENTER buttons until screen."
I called customer support they said only way to hard reset was thru windows - Clear Storage.
Anyone have any ideas.
I can get into the bootloader fine. Dont really feel like going through a replacement.
Nevermind, just found it.
Instructions from the user manual
1. Turn off the power.
2. Press and hold the ENTER (Center) key, and then press the POWER key.
3. Release the POWER key, but continue pressing the ENTER key until you see the following message on
the screen.....
Cant believe a tier 2 tech at verizon couldnt find this.

actually i work for verizon and i bought the touchpro the first day it was released and I had to do a hard reset shortly after i received it because of all the tinkering i was doing with it. anyways, the only way to hard reset the xv6850 is to do the clear storage process. the method of holding down the buttons and doing a soft reset WILL NOT WORK on the verizon version. yes and i am very aware of the idiocy that is our technical staff. anyways hope this helps.
I'm trying to figure something out and I don't yet own a touch pro-the answer may effect my buying.
After you preform a hard reset and go through the screen calibration, does the ROM install any software? I mean does it give you an auto prompt that says something like customizing your device? If you've ever hard reset a xv6800 or used a custom UC rom you'll know what I mean.
I have some theories about making the device faster or removing some stuff based on the way our xv6800 was. Mnasr87, do you know the contents of the Verizon extROM?

i'm sorry i don't know what the contents of the extROM is but i do know that it does go through the customization screen after doing a hard reset. i hope that helps in the process of hacking the touch pro pm me if you come up with anything, tc.
open clear storage in settings/systems and enter 1 2 3 4
it will restore to the original rom

Thanks, I posted a thread about bypassing customizations to possibly speed up the verizon rom. Usually Verizon has a couple cabs that monitor registry changes and slow things down. But if you bypass the customizations I still don't know what else there is missing (good and bad.)
But knowing I can bypass customizations and that there are now custom roms is a good thing! Now, I need to start begging my parents.

this works for the xv6850, the verizon touch pro. but technically you should simply tap the power button and not hold it down too long and don't let go of the center button until you see the hard reset screen.

This was quick easy and painless. Thank you. I was trying to do it the other way listed online which was not working.
That was phone upside down hold volume down press the enter key and then hold down the reset button. This was almost impossible to do with only 2 hands lol. Also it wouldn't work.
when the phone is off, jus hold center and volume down then hold power. make sure there all being held down.
Out of all methods listed, the only two that work for my Verizon XV6850 are hold the center button and reset button, and of course the clear storage icon in system settings. Just tried them all. The other ones just bring up a screen for completely powering off the device.

This is also the ONLY way my Verizon TP hard resets as well. However, I was flashing my friends vzw TP and his won't do it any way but the clear storage way? What gives? Whats causing the difference?
Just as a couple of the guys said before..... For a Verizon Touch Pro not sure about anything else..... but a simple power off...... press and hold the center button... power up and BAM!
all that holding the volume button down....press the reset.... double tapping is totally wrong.....
What in the world is the Center button?
also just wondering if there is another way to HR besides going to settings and clear storage does it do anything different?
hard resetting on Verizon
i think that they disable the way with the down arrow and the other stuff i think that the only way that you can do it on a Verizon phone is by doing it with the whole clear memory thing and 1234 or if you can find a rom that works and so far i have only found one rom that see to works right . and also the one in the manual doesn't seem to work either
I found this thread looking to hard reset my xv6850. Tried everything, but only one method worked for me. I figured I would post here for others trying to hard reset:
with the power on
hold down the center button
press the reset button
btw ... rom ver 1.08.605.4

How to soft reset Toshiba TG01.

How do I soft reset Toshiba TG01. Tried searching with my limited skills but dint get anything.
Try to search in user manual (page 22)
1. "RESET" button under back cover or
2. Press & hold power key for 15 seconds or
3. By software like that.
Thanks a lot...
Should have checked the manual. Most basic thing. With the convenience of internet we get lazy to check the old stuff.
There are a few ways of soft resetting the TG01.
1st you can use the softreset you find in programs like SPB mobile shell and Quickmenu
2nd you can use the soft reset button located under the battery cover.
or 3rd you can press and hold the power button. If the phone has locked up, I find holding the power button in for a couple of minutes turns the phone off, if its not locked up a power off window should pop up on screen.
If you meant "hard reset" then thats a different matter and I think a thread already exists for that.
You can also soft reset by removing the battery
I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned:
1) Remove the battery.
2) Count to 10.
3) Replace the battery.

If you add the attached shortcut to your device (can be placed where you line, but suggest in ..\windows\start menu) this will allow you to simply tap to achieve exactly the same effect as pressing and holding the Power button. When the device has powered off, then simply press Power to restart; that is a Soft Reset.

I use this app, which is also skinable. Loads of skins available to match your theme.
To avoid to have to remove the back cover when TG01 is blocked, I made a little hole in the back cover!
keep hold vol up +camera and power button and then follow instruction on your phone.... u ll loose all your data on phone.
method 1
put it in the oven for 20 mins, take it out, throw it at a wall. job done thats a soft reset.

Slight confusion here.... that is a HARD reset. And as stated will loose all installed apps, settings and data (other than data on uSD Card).

Hero-Power Button problem

Hello guys. At first i´m so sorry for my bad english, so i´ll show you a video of my problem.
Phone - HTC Hero, Android 2,1
Video:
I can´t post outside links in my messages...
youtube. com/watch?v=V1BwQZsoKCk
It will not go to sleep mode when pressing the end/power key. But it still takes phone OUT of sleep mode, but now I have to wait for the screen timeout instead of pressing the button again.
I tried to find answer to my question, but i failed... I tried Reboot, Spare Parts - i don´t know if it worked properly, Hard reset, but the power button still not working properly.
Thank you! Marty

Now i did a ROOT and i try to flash in some ROMs but it still not works + it cancels my outcoming and incoming calls...
Sounds like you have a failing power button.. like I do.
It's a real pain in the ass... been looking for solutions for quite a while, besides physically replacing the circuit board the button is on...
I know this is old but for anybody researching the same problem... after trying MANY different apps for taking over power button tasks, the only real solution was to buy a replacement "Flex Cable" assembly on eBay. Takes some bravery to install but everything works now.
But that's just my experience.
I suppose that the simplest way out id button remapper that you can find hear at xda.
By using such software you can easily turn any of the other physical keys of your device into the power button.

True, and they did work once the phone was up and running. However, when something went wrong on my rom and I needed to get into recovery to re-flash... I was SOL.
Yes, remapping is applied only after the kernel is loaded... So remapping is quite useless if the phone is switched off.

[Q] Disable power button long press = power off ?

Hi,
When doing a long-press on the power button of my Galaxy SII, after a few seconds, it powers off. This happens whether it is locked or not, and without asking for confirmation on the screen.
I'm using a Sena leather case, which presses on the power button. Each time I put it in the case, it powers off, then it restarts, and stays on "enter SIM pin code" screen. I may have discovered a new way to switch to Airplane mode but I'd like to avoid that.
Moreover, there is a distinction between :
- long press (2 seconds) : brings the power menu (Airplane / Reboot / Switch OFF)
- very long press (approx. 8 seconds) : switches the phone OFF
Also, these two keys are active even when the phone is locked.
Here's what I would like to do : disable both the 2 seconds press and the 8-seconds press when the phone is locked
I found some threads about key remapping applications or direct edit of keymap files, but none of them were successful.
Could someone point me out an application / a way to achieve that ? Does someone know if it's ever possible ?
(For now, the only workaround I found is a hardware one : disassemble the phone and sand the power button to reduce its height, so that it stays inside the casing)
Thank you in advance. Kind regards
My old HTC Hero used to do that too, which leads me to believe it is something hard-coded into Android itself. I'd suggest there is nothing much you can do, but wait and see if a dev replies or something.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
I don't know if it's possible but if it is it has to be something in the kernel.
The 8 second power off function works the same way as the on on your PC and is used if your phone stops responding so I don't see a way to disable it with an app because it's ment to turn the phone off even if an app freezes your whole phone.
Hi,
If the 8-seconds press is hard-coded, I think precautions should have been taken to avoid unwanted power off each time you put the phone into a leather pouch !
On iPhone f/ex, you have to press both power and home button during several seconds to trigger hard reboot, which makes unwanted action hard to happen unexpectedly.
It's always frustrating to encounter such a basic problems on a $600 phone using the latest state-of-the-art technology, which powers off each time you put it into your pocket ;-)
I hoped some developer has found a way to workaround this. I googled a lot, but I didn't find anything.
So, if the power button features are hard-coded, the only solution may be to hard-remove the entire power button
Problem solved.
I disassembled the phone, I removed the power button, I carefully grinded it to reduce its height, and I put it back into the phone.
(For those who may already owned an iThing, disassembling a Galaxy SII is very easy, it's a matter of seconds with a good old mini-screwdriver; proceed carefully when grinding, because if you reduce the height too much, the buttom may break)
Now my power button height is just below the casing. It's still possible to press on it with a finger, but it does not press by itself when putting the phone into my leather pouch.
Thank you for explaining it I had an issue with my S II and it went to service to solve it, they totally changed the board and was shocked when I found the short press on power button doesn't show the power menu I used to have and it switched off immediately!
I've got to return it to service and your post made me thinking it's a simple issue! It won't take time
Regards,
