I know there is a lot of stuff posted on this subject through many threads but I was hoping to have a veteran summarize their impression on the latest things possible (ROMS and clients).
I have a Cingular branded G4 8125 with IPL 2.25.0001 / Radio version 02.25.11. I plan on trying the shelltool to put something generic or T-Mobile branded for T-Mobile use.
I want to use VOIP via Wi-Fi How do the VOIP solutions compare? (Skype vs. some of the generic VOIP offerings cooked into the different ROMS). If a particular ROM has superior quality which one do you recommend. Is VOIP worthwhile at all with the 8125 or is it just not practical?

i'm searching for the best (well, at the moment) radio to use in italy.
Usually i use 3 as operator and umts is the only choice.
Does anybody of you already tested out some rom which thinks it's better than others?
I tried the latest 1.5x but they seem to be not so stable.
Sometimes my hermes ask me for the pin as it lost the signal.
Some others it freezes.
Any suggestion?

I could have sworn 3 used GSM and 3G networks, otherwise they would have very little coverage. Anyone else like to comment?
As for the Radio's, unless you find someone on the same network, with the same phone in the same area you wont know without trying them. Personally my first upgrade was to 1.50.00 then I moved to 1.54.07 which I am finding to be very good.
hi, i need a rom for t mobile, i need one thats internet , text works with it. any of you guys can recommend one to me.
No rom is carrier specific, just run the connection setup program and tmob should be a choice. Personally I'm a fan of NATF's and Energy's roms. Also realize 3g will not work with Tmobile due to it using the 1700 frequency which the touch pro/fuze does not support. For more infomation check the Raphael wiki.

no you can't,s740 and s743 are different in hardware not just software
Why would you want to do that anyway? S740 has more features than S743.

I just switched from T-mobile to AT&T and I want the 3g to work.
I bought a second Rose since I posted the original message. So now i do have a 743 and it works just fine.
You can flash with HTC WWE Brightpoint ROM and it will be S743 in device information tasted on my S740 and work good

were did you test it?in EU or in US?Did you get 3G signal?
correct me if i didnt get the point but with a 740 you also can use 3G, it works for my phone within the EU

s740 supports 3G only in EU,it doesn't support 3G in US.
s743 supports 3G only in US,if you try s743 in EU you will get only GPRS signal.(I know because I own a S743 in Greece)
The point is if you can flash a s743 rom into a s740 and make 3G work in US,and the opposite with a s743 and s740 ROm in EU.

So I seen a user say he flashed the s740 to s743 to use 3g. Does this work
? I got a good deal on a new unlocked s740 but I live in the US and am on T-Mobile and I know the 740 works but not the 3g.

Thank you for your request regarding getting your S743 to work on 3G signal that is available in Europe. 3G signal compatibility is not controlled by software, it is a hardware requirement. Because your phone was built for US 3G signal, there is no way to get that phone working on a 3G signal without altering the hardware, which is something that could also void your warranty, as would altering the software. That's what I did for about a year...but it is a shame to use edge and gprs when you can use 3G and 3.5G...anyway...good luck.
