Can a 740 be flashed to make it a 743 ? - S740, S743 General

Can a 740 be flashed to make it a 743 ?

no you can't,s740 and s743 are different in hardware not just software

Why would you want to do that anyway? S740 has more features than S743.

s740 supports 3G only in EU,it doesn't support 3G in US.
s743 supports 3G only in US,if you try s743 in EU you will get only GPRS signal.(I know because I own a S743 in Greece)
The point is if you can flash a s743 rom into a s740 and make 3G work in US,and the opposite with a s743 and s740 ROm in EU.

oh okay.
world's difficult sometimes

So I seen a user say he flashed the s740 to s743 to use 3g. Does this work
? I got a good deal on a new unlocked s740 but I live in the US and am on T-Mobile and I know the 740 works but not the 3g.

MAIL FROM HTC SUPPORT
Dear ******,
Thank you for your request regarding getting your S743 to work on 3G signal that is available in Europe. 3G signal compatibility is not controlled by software, it is a hardware requirement. Because your phone was built for US 3G signal, there is no way to get that phone working on a 3G signal without altering the hardware, which is something that could also void your warranty, as would altering the software. I am sorry that there is not a resolution for you that HTC can provide. I do wish you luck! Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Sarah

Bummer. Well I only paid 200US for it so still a good phone, guess I will just have to put up with EDGE.

That's what I did for about a year...but it is a shame to use edge and gprs when you can use 3G and 3.5G...anyway...good luck.

Great~~~!!!
First impressions are very good. Signal strength similar or better than 1.50 here around the house and my HSDPA data connection is noticeably faster... I post battery usage later after a day´s use...
Thx for the upload...will try it later, do you know sth about the BL of this Radio ROM?:..
Regards,
Primoz
Thx jcespi2005, it's good
Thanks, I will try this later today, already downloaded.
I can confirm this version WORKS with ROGERS in Toronto and from reading on another thread, seems OK with FIDO as well.
No missed calls, rings on first ring (unlike 1.46.00.00, 1.47.00.00, 1.48.00.00 and 1.50.00.00).
It seems that the versions that work for ROGERS all end in an .10 rather than the .00 of the ones listed above.
This radio is a keeper for me.
T-MOBILE USA - Looking good
On preliminary observation, good signal and one of the faster responses to incoming calls since the 1.41 radio.
More on battery life and cell switching in a day or two.

Update: Works great when you call or sms & receive, BUT CANT USE UMTS, CANT INTERNET.
So Dutch folks, keep it by radio 1.50
It's so strange when I upgrde the this radio.
I can feel that the upgrade speed is appearing slow than anyother former version.
Some fans can't load hermes after upgrade and some can't see the new radio version in "device information". So... is anybody here has the same problem? And who can tell what is going wrong.
The best for now
Radio 1.51 it's a must have.
No more ring delay, at last the TyTN ring starts between the first and the second caller line tone..., like a real phone
HSDPA working very well

Works fine for me.
I have tested using GPRS only, and 3G with and without HSDPA, and works every time. Can sync with my exchange server using push mail, and navigate with Internet Explorer in all situations.
Seems a little better coverage than 1.50 for me, here with Orange Spain.

Australian Network Original ROMS - Updated 3 Jan 09

Hi to all budding cooks!
I have links here - thanks to HTC e-Club Australia - for those who wish to download the original signed ROMS for three of the four Australian mobile network providers: Optus, Vodafone and 3 Mobile. Unfortunately the folks at HTC haven't seen fit to publicly release a Telstra-specific ROM for the Next-G network, or else I'd have a link here for that too.
The ROMs available from the links below include the radio in the package, and will install it along with the network-specific stuff for each provider.
Click on the link to start your direct-to-PC download:
Hutchison Telecoms - 3 Mobile (this is the latest one, released on December 4, 2008)
Optus and Vodafone Networks (this is the same one HTC released on October 27, 2008 - no other update for Optus/Vodafone available as of January 3, 2009)
Links also added to the Raphael Wiki Page
Hope these can be of help to someone.....
Thanks for these. Have you tested any of them
Optus / Vodafone ROM
OK I have flash to this rom and so far so good.
It's a fully unbranded rom. Not even the program shortcuts in touchflow have been inserted.
This upgrade has fixed a main problem of mms for me where I can now send and receive mms again. I could not do this with.405 WWE rom. Radio is the the stock radio and I have had not improvment here in AUS and will upgrade to .28 or .32 shortly.
No speed diffrence and you will need to redo your confiqs again or restore from backup

Only the 3 Mobile and Optus ones, and both work well. Haven't tried the Telstra ones, 'cos I hate Telstra and everything they stand for. My only dislikes are the telco's brandings everywhere on the 3 Mobile ROM, other than that they run exactly like the stock HTC ROM.
As for the radio I'm using with Optus, it's 1.02.25.32, and here in Newcastle it's clear as crystal. Send/receive MMS is fine, and SMS goes on GSM like it always has with Optus.

Great thanks. Yes I am using the Optus one as well and still on orignal radio and so far so good, only had issue restoring the backups would not reinstall the programs and settings which is a bit of a pain But the Rom feels faster after the settings applied then the orignal I had. I don't know why I could not get mms to work on orignal rom .405 I had all the correct settings and it would never send now it's like perfect again.
Will upgrade radio next as .19 always has some lagg in connecting to the network

Not sure, mate. Seeming though I live in Australia, I haven't been able to set up my computer somewhere in the UK and get my hands on a Vodafone UK edition Raph to test it. Maybe you could test it yourself, see how it goes, and post your results here.
There's nothing to worry about. Only one of four things could happen, and all of them are reversible.
(1) The flash is a failure: you brick the phone. Elsewhere in this forum are threads committed to helping those with bricked phones;
(2) The flash is a success, but you don't like the look, feel and speed of the ROM post-install;
(3) The flash is a success, but the Radio/modem isn't working well for you on your particular network, or
(4) The flash is a success and the whole thing works to your satisfaction.
Trial and error is the key to advancement. You will get nowhere if you don't try, and you always have here a number of others with the same device, to help you out of a bind if you get stuck. Great minds think alike, and as Dr. Conrad Zimsky said in 'The Core', "That's all science is, is best guess..."
cheers mate, my only worry is bricking. im new to winmo so all the flashin is new to me.

I suggest first and foremost you go to the Raphael Elite Team Thread and grab the HardSPL from there. For further instructions on how not to brick your phone, check out this thread. If you haven't already, install ActiveSync 4.5 for Windows XP, or Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Vista. Make sure you download and install the correct version for your operating system, as there are 32- and 64-bit variants.
Connect your phone to your PC through whatever Sync application you installed, then Flash your phone with the HardSPL first. Trust me, I've done it myself and it works, as long as you follow the instructions the boys have left in a text file included in the *.zip's you'll grab from that thread. After that, it's all smooth sailing. Installation of ROM's from wherever you decide to grab them is a risk each time you do it, but make sure that if the ROM's chef has specified a certain Radio to use with what he's cooked, that you Flash that to your device first then hard-reset, then Flash the ROM.
Hope this has helped a little bit.....
hmmm i think i must be missing something. ive flashed hardspl no problem but i get an invalid vendor error when i try to flash the voda rom, i thought hardspl stopped that? maybe im just a noob missing something

Try going back to the original SPL that you can grab from the same place you got the unsigned from. Then try flashing with the Vodafone/Optus one I've posted links to @top of thread.
same error. everything back to stock & nothings bricked so no biggy. i wanted the radios more than anything because i get pretty sucky reception at home but vodafone say i shudnt. oh well, no harm done a least.
Thanks for your help.

As far as I am aware, the device flicks between whatever frequency is available. That is, if the 900MHz band is there, then it uses it, but when the 2100MHz band is around, it'll switch to that one. I was happy with that stock Optus ROM in my Raph, using my Optus SIM card, but have gone back to the T.I.R. (PDM) one simply 'cos I like it.
My Raph is an original outright device bought from 3 Mobile - with the 3 generic ROM installed - but because I jumped from a stock Vodafone service to Optus ('cos Vodafone here in Newcastle are not providing 3G/HSDPA) I chose a ROM I liked the look of.

Perfect! Thanks very much for the info.
Hi, this is an interesting discussion about band freq's here...
I'm running 1.02.25.19 with ROMeOS 1.21 WWE and I see the following options:
Auto
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)
GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
UMTS(2100+800)
I'm with Vodafone. I do not experience any call quality issues, slow call connection or internet speed issues... so I'm not too sure if this changes anything considering Vodafone mainly uses 1800 and they're still in the process of running out 900MHz.
FWIW... I tried running Radio 1.02.25.28 but I did experience issues with my camera, which is why I'm back on .19

upgrading rom to turkish Htc touch pro bought at ebay.com

Hi, I bought this HTC touch pro almost one year ago.. my celular provider is switching to 3G but my phone cannot connect the 850 network band...I tried to upgrade the rom at htc's site, they answer the rom must be upgraded at htc turkish site. I have 2 concerns... I can't speak turkish, so I could sell my soul to devil without notice (lol)... and of course can change my phone language to turkish and make it useless for me...
Thanks,
Katya
rom version 1.90.456.4 wwe
If your device dosent support the bands your provider uses for 3G then it never will, The Radio bands are hard coded into the cpu so software wont change a thing

First you need to update your info like what country and what Cell.provider you use will help...
this is the spec. for your phone
http://www.htc.com/www/product/touchpro/specification.html
it says that the phone can detect 850 network band...
3G currently 900/2100
maybe you need to check with your provider to change your sim card to 3g capable one.....
for my knowledge some provider when they switch to 3g and you have older Sim will not work and will require new Sim card.
just give them a call nothing to loose.
this is as far as my knowledge...
let us know and good luck...
you have a wwe rom
so in theory it should be possible to upgrade but you need to softspl it first
for the 3G it should be there with or without abbo as long as you have a sim which is connected to the network. if it is not it is not available in the area or the phonesettings are set to gprs only, it shows a G then.
the frequenties are hardcoded indeed and are present in the touch pro.
controlled by the radio rom.
updating my post
Hi... I'm in San Jose-Costa Rica... my service provider is ICE, the goverment company... they just bought the 3g from huawei or something like that...
I'm going to try my sim in other phone to verify 3G compatibility of my sim.
Thanks a lot...
I really like to had the chance to upgrade my phone... I need a US or maybe UK serial number to download new roms
Thanks again

Its not necessary that HTC's Turkish site will have turkish ROM.
And maybe you should try a XDA WWE ROM.
And 3g has got nothing to do with ROMs.
You need to check in device info(in settings) what processor do you have if it is 701 or 702 then only you can have 3g reception.
if it is 706 then sorry you can't have 3g reception no matter what ROM or Radio you use.

But i don' think the OP understood.
Anyways he should be checking his processor.
And giving details about his device.
But for sure 3G has nothing to do with ROM/RADIO/SIM.
It depends on your processor, your network provider, your subscription to 3G.

Normal HD2 Or T-Mobile HD2 Which one should I buy?

HD2 also sold in europe and T-Mobile is the difference between versions?
Which one should I buy?
difference - tmous has 1024 meg storage, regular has 512meg - tmous uses different 3g.
if you want 3g, get the euro hd2. If you are willing to lose 3g and get more storage space, get the tmous.

Ok, i wont miss 3G that much.
I just bought a HD2 off ebay and it didnt say anything about that it was a TMOUS.
Do you guys only have that version there? I am a bit worried because i would like to have norwegian language when i write messages. but i would prefer to keep the "main" language on the phone english.
Is this possible?
Any other functions that will not work in Norway?
Edit: i am currently on vacation to anaother country and searching/browsing with this computer is insanely slow. I could have searched more, but i hope someone would answer me so i dont have to suffer.
Does the TMOUS version come with any type of annoying logos/animations ect? If so, it probably needs a new rom ?.

Want 3G on ATT with Hero, possible?

This isn't a typical question, I know the Hero GSM can't communicate on the GPRS network for 3G service on AT&T.
My question is, is it possible to harvest the harware radio from another HTC device, say a Tytn II (because I have one of those) and replace those parts in the Hero so it can listen on those bands?
Has anyone tried this? Or am I just up in the night with thoughts I shouldn't be thinking?

I'd say this, to be honest. I don't think that the SPL would take kindly to some random radio, and drivers wouldn't work.
Bummer... Figured that'd be the answer. The radio should work though right? The crystals just have to be tuned to whatever band the waves are coming in at. I can get Edge and 2G no problem, but would love to get 3G... Stupid ATT and Apple, complete lack of good android phones because of those lamesauce iPhones... I'm just curious to see if anyone with a geek level well beyond mine has experimented with swaping that kind of hardware, and if it is something could be possible to swap.
Umm, it shouldn't be too hard for you to procure a Canadian Hero from Telus.
FYI, the Canadian Hero supports the 850/1900MHz frequencies that are needed for 3G on ATT.

Yeah, this variation of the Hero mostly goes unnoticed on these forums because it's compatible with the European ROMs and radios.
Actually I'm using one of those Telus Heros in Costa Rica, our 3G network uses 850Mhz as AT&T, mine is rooted, and with a Custom Rom VR12 with custom Kernel running @710mhz.
I got mine unlocked from negrielectronics
Good luck
