Why would you buy an alltel phone off ebay if you want to use Sprint's network?

i bought the alltel version because i saved 400 bucks doing that, also the same phone is available for both providers so technically there shouldnt be any problems using one or the other right? i am stuck with sprint so must use them for now

Yes there is one big problem. You can't use an Alltel ESN on the Sprint network unless you somehow manage to get Sprint to add it to their database.

so i am stuck with a phone for alltel that i will not get to use with sprint, ever?

Pretty much...unless you can SOMEHOW convince a dumbass sprint rep to add it for you (pretty much never happens)...or you clone a Sprint ESN which is illegal.

Sprint to Alltel
I flashed a Sprint Touch(6900) with the official Alltel rom and Alltel added with no problems and everything on the phone worked great. I would think you can just flash a sprint carrier rom, now whether Sprint will add an Alltel ESN on your account I do not know....

haha
alltell doesnt care as long as its a phone that they sell ... sprint cares... now for the ESN thing as long as its not a ESN in use by a other phone in therory it isnt cloning its just barrowing... say my old phone broke and i used its ESN this is all theory though good luck

seems i got sprint to add the phone i flashed from alltel to sprint, yea. NOW i would like to supercid it any ideas?

Lost, Help! can I flash mogul to Verizon.

I was a cell tech 10 years ago but now I am lost. I want to switch providers but keep my phone. Company techs say no way, have to buy new phone. That HTC 6800 and xv6800 look similar but have different guts and one will not emulate the other. Can I flash the mogul to work with verizon? If so, A few keywords for searching this site, to get up to speed would be greatley appreciated. Thanks for your help.
The phones are essentially identical if you put cosmetic differences aside. The real difference is that Sprint have that one's ESN number in their database for the phone, and Verizon have no knowledge of that phone in their database. So, if you call VZW they will say, "hmmm... nope, we can't help you." But, if you illegally change that one's ESN to the ESN of a valid Verizon phone, you can register that phone to their network. But, there is a little difference about ESN, MSL, MSID, etc. between VZW and Sprint... so if you decide to break the law well, make sure to research your topic thoroughly. It is possible though.

verizon now (or will soon) lets you use any phone on their network (provided its CDMA of course) so having them activate a sprint mogul shoudlnt be an issue

My Verizon rep said next year... and in Verizon time that means don't hold your breath.
i had heard some areas had started immediately following the announcement last november

Sprint Mogul on Verizon Network

So I did the unlock and put the new sprint rom on it. I then loaded the prl, changed the msl to all 0's. I called verizon to change it from my juke. They told me the esn is not in there database, she had to submit a form to try to get it changed, it will be some days if they do it at all. Is there anything I can do to get this to work on Verizon without them trying to add the esn and it possibly getting denied. I would like to get it up and running today. Does anybody have a way to fix this, that is in noob terms. Thank you in advance!
Yes, you can supercid it and then clone your existing esn onto it.
http://www.ringerpost.com/forums/rpost.pl?b-rt/m-1207420735/
ok I attempted to clone it to my existing juke phone that I have active on verizon. When i change the esn I get no signal. Even when prl is loaded. When I change the esn back to the stock esn, I get a signal, but verizon won't activate that esn, they called me back and said its a sprint esn and they couldn't activate it. Man I am pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. Can anybody offer some help, or post the steps they used to get this working?
any help would be great

vzw hasnt fully made their system open yet. they wont accept an esn that they didnt sell. so no sprint esn will be activated. the only thing you can do is change the esn, but since that makes you not able to get a signal, seems like you might not be doing that right...
i don't understand what im doing wrong
You're not doing anything wrong. Verizon WILL not activate any phone on their network that doesn't have a Verizon ESN. The mogul will run perfectly fine on the network, but because it has a Sprint ESN, they will not activate it. Now...if you're trying to clone the ESN of an existing Verizon phone, that's a whole different story and is quite illegal.
I don't believe that cloning the esn from a juke will work -- because VZW knows the phone type by the esn. It seems that you would need to use an esn from a junk mogul
give it a try?
the phne should at least get a signal from that esn though. It gets nothing! Its like I'm in a no coverage zone
i just activated my sprint motoQ on verizon. they did not question the sprint ESN at all.
flashed a vz image and vz prl, and all is good.

I would love to know this. It would cut my bill by about 75%.
Asking the experts...
I have been reading and following the titan for some time and are ready to purchase. Looking at Verizon vs. Sprint for new device, Verizon is way more expensive. Looking at eBay there are many for Sprint and next to zero for Verizon.
I would like to bid on a "clean ESN" phone for Sprint, then activate on Verizon. Possibly even activate on Sprint for some time then switch. (I have under 2 months left on my contract).
I have found a few that are NIB for a seller and asked for the ESN. He states he gives them only to the winner. I say red flag, but does he have a security issue (I could clone it??)?
And from above, could I do the double activate or if Verizon says it is clean only do it there?
Thanks.
I am also trying to do this. I have the cracking 6800 package, followed the instructions and was able to get the cid to all o's, although i am stuck in CDMA workshop and cant change the ESN because i am not sure what port to connect on( i have tried all them no luck) Anyone with any ideas would help me out alot. Also if the phone is currently unlocked with 2.4 loader but has the sprint 3.35 radio is it safe to flash to a stock verizon rom? Do i need to even do this? I have flashed with a custom rom then selected verizon as my carrier but in EPST config it still shows SPCS.

Can I use a Mogul on Verizon Network? Using DCD Kitchen?

My apologies if this has been covered....I searched a bit but didn't find the answer.
My friend has a Mogul he got from sprint. He'd like to sell it to me for $75.
I wonder. If I use DCD kitchen, load the verizon radio, DCD ROM, then the verizon Carrier cab......would it work?
Thanks,
Matt

I don't believe so. The radio in the sprint phone is GSM and the radio in the Verizon phone is CDMA.
Edit: I am incorrect. Sprint is CDMA and Verizon is CDMA... so I'm guessing that it could be possible. I have yet to test this though.
The answer is yes and no.
Yes, it is the exact same hardware, and therefore you can flash a custom rom/radio and install the verizon carrier cab leaving you with an xv6800 with a mogul casing.
The only issue is getting Verizon to activate it on their network, as it has a Sprint ESN. In the past, they were very strict about not allowing any non-Verizon ESN's in their database, though I've heard RUMORS that they've eased up a bit on it due to their "Open Network" campaign.
Honestly, it's a crapshoot, but if you can get Verizon Support to activate it, then it would work perfectly.

I heard somewhere that verizon has a new policy to support any phone on their network, but they also call their data plan with a 5GB cap the "UNLIMITED" plan. Go figure.
Hopefully when Sprint comes out with the Diamond and other awesome new HTC phones about a year ahead of Verizon, we will be able to active their hardware on The Network. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Yes it can be done. i have an alltel ppc6800 on vzw. the easiest way to do it is from the vzw website esn switch or activate equipment. There are some other steps you have to take to get the software loaded, not the stock rom. Then you will have to call vzw and have them reset your DMU keys. start here:

or send you phone in:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=24855
Oh and you'll have yo change the SPC code since it's a sprint phone. need to get that to a 000000, again the first post will help with that.
Hope this helps.

Nope, they have different versions of the radios (cdma v. gsm) ... just get a sprint branded Touch...
also, my girl might be interested in your Verizon pro. email me at [email protected] or 213-925-5351 so we can talk...
ummm... Yea, sprint and Verizon are both CDMA. Im currently using a Sprint radio on my verizon touch Pro. as to activating the verizon n a sprint network, I dont think it works that way.
then my bad.. so your using ur sprint branded touch on the verizon network?
Sprint and Verizon Touch Pros should both work on either network. They are both CDMA. Sprint operates on 850 and 1900mhz, Verizon runs on 800 and 1900mhz, but both carriers use these frequencies. It should be a matter of flashing your phone with a kitchen or rom and making sure that you have the appropriate carrier specific info.
With that said, since the verizon TP has about 100 megs of RAM less than the sprint TP, I would wager that you would like the Sprint TP better and have less fuss if you could sell of the Verizon TP. I don't know for sure if Sprint will let you activate a VZ phone on their network although it should work fine.
P.S. Usually the trend is to try to get a Sprint TP on running on Verizon as the Sprint hardware is nicer.
Done Rambling.
I dont know that Sprint will add the verizon TP's esn to their system. Unless there is a workaround that i dont know about.
Ill take the touch pro. I have verizon and want to upgrade to a touch pro. email me at [email protected]
i sell you a sprint tp
i can sell you a sprint tp give me 250 everything is on the box is unlock already with mighty rom 4.14 i can send you the phone activated if you have and account email me jmmp(at)ultraxtreme(dot)com
unless you really know what your doing, and don't mind really bending the law, i would say that it isn't worth it to get a Verizon TP to work on Sprint. also like said above, the Sprint TP has better hardware
Cross Carrier Activation Is Not Possible... Don't Believe The Rumors!!!
Simply put, Neither Verizon or Sprint will activate the other carrier's phones on their network. The esn numbers are not in the opposite carrier's database and neither carrier will add an esn from a device that is not branded as their own. Period end of discussion. Yes both Sprint and Verizon's phones are compatible on one anothers network, but that's not the issue. The issue is getting the carrier to activate a device from the other carrier which the WILL NOT DO.
People activate sprint touch pros on verizon all the time without a problem. heres a writeup on how to do it for verizon http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/htc-touch-pro/120970-sprint-touch-pro-verizon.html
I just bought a sprint one and I have verizon. It's not hard to use it on the other network
Word on the street is that VZW caught on to this and is no longer allowing these MEID/ESN's on their network.

that was true a month ago, it is not true today.
Verizon eliminated the *228 option 3 setup that was allowing the sprint phone to be activated on VZ. If you try it now, you get an error saying to call VZ TS & if you do call they refuse the activation.
I have a Sprint TP on VZ myself but I hope it never breaks.........
~John
any workaround for this? I get my Sprint touch pro tomorrow
Sprint Touch Pro
If anyone interested in my Sprint TP email me at [email protected] and I'll cut you a sweet deal. I love it but I am with Verizon and have moved on to the BB Storm...its cool but the TP does more..

Verizon/Alltel compatibility?

I posted in the xda unlocking forum also but thought maybe this is a better place.
My friend is still with alltel and needs a new phone so I am wondering if my xtra Eris would somehow work for her?
Thanks in advance!
Sent from my GSBERIS using XDA App
Will it work? Absolutely Yes! Verizon has been roaming with Alltel in the areas where they do not overlap for years.
The question is will Alltel activate it. Depends on where they are with integration/replacement of the Alltel activation system(s). Carriers check ESN ranges so that only phones they sell/allow distributors to sell get on their network.
So, if your friend is in an Alltel area that is going to end up as part of Verizon Wireless I would definitely try to get the Eris activated.
My understanding is that Verizon has completed the Alltel conversion. The only Alltels that are around are now owned by AT&T, who is in the middle of converting that user base and i expect they will push Alltel customers to upgrade to AT&T Phones, Plans and services.
When Verizon was converting Alltel any Alltel customers that wanted to activate a Verizon phone HAD to switch to Verizon Plans & Services. They couldn't keep their Alltel plans & services with Verizon phones.
These remaining Alltels owned by AT&T will NOT activate a Verizon phone. That much i can tell you for sure. Your best best if your friend wants to use an Android Phone on Alltel is to buy one outright from Alltel or search eBay. If he wants to use the Droid Eris and is willing to dump Alltel i believe there are guides here in the Eris forums to make the phone work on MetroPCS or Cricket (which requires special flashing).
Good luck!
My family is still on a Alltel family plan (4 of us) and a year and a half ago I was able to stay on that plan and get a Droid Eris as long as we bought the data plan

Sorry to burst you on this one but you are incorrect. I have had a storm 2 and now an Eris on a Verizon contract but keeping my Alltel plan pricing.
I have a LG Rhythm I gave my granddaughter but when I changed over to a verizon plan from alltel I had to get verizon phones so the Rhythm was turned off. She really liked playing with that phone. Can it be activated on verizon by doing #228 or is there another way or can't do it at all?
You are caught in limbo.
In order to activate the Rhythm you are going to have to move it to a plan that can be activated through the Alltel activation system(s). The Rhythm is recognized by the Alltel activation system(s), but is NOT recognized by the Verizon activation system(s).
I would imagine that Verizon will only allow Alltel-only phones on its network through the contract period of the phones (2 years?). Get ready for all Alltel-only phones to not be allowed by Verizon.
Actually there are three areas that are still Alltel that are still waiting to be converted to Verizon. Nebraska, Michigan, and Minnesota. These areas are where Verizon sold their market to AT&T and kept the Alltel customers and towers. Once the old Verizon customers and towers have been completely converted to AT&T in these areas, then Verizon can begin the process to convert those Alltel markets into the "new" Verizon.
