Hi guys.
I was wondering if there is a way to get WM 6.1 for Hermes.
I would also pay for it.
Thx

It's actually simply possible Mate. I had my Hermes guarantee left, and that's time to do lot of things.
I'm a newbie either, all You need is read as much as info about flashing, how to do it safely. I state simple steps :
- Backup Your Data
- Do HardSPL (to get flashing safely)
- Starting flashing WM6.1 ROM.
There are lots of ROM, some compulated here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408984
Thx!
Data Backup is done.
My SPL is "SPL-2.03".
When I started "CRCs Release 11.2 - Stable", it asks, which SPL I use.
Can I choose "SPL-2.02/2.10/2.30 New Bootloader"??
if you have installed hard spl then it should be 1.40 olipro, if you havent installed hardspl i would do it now
Alright.
I have installed Olipro now.
Have I got to choose SPL-1.04? (Thats what Autodetect says)
Or just force using safe SSPL?

MAKE SURE you have installed HardSPL dude.
Once you have use autodetect and it will choose the correct SPL, otherwise choose "SPL 2.02/2.10/2.30" and tick the "Is it HardSPL?" box.
Sorry, i forgot to say that I made sure.
I pushed Power+Cam+Reset and then i got that screen with "SPL-1.40 Olipro" or whatever. I am sure it's Olipro 1.40.
I ticked the "Is it Hard SPL Box" and it always chooses SPL 1.04.
When i try to flash with this setting, i get a connection error, even when i am synced with activesync.
After i got the Connection error, active sync also gets an error. (It's not connected)
Edit: Btw. I used this one: 1.10 - Olipro SPL - based on 1.04 and unlocked - use for rtask commands.
I tried again...
and guess what?
It worked! Thanks guys
Go to the top of this forum, there is a thread called "Hard-SPL, Or How to Not Brick Your PDA Ever Again And Fix Bad Blocks". Install Hard SPL ver 7. When you go to the boot loader it should say SPL : 2.10 olipro.
Anything else you have a good chance of bricking your Hermes and NOT being able to recover.
Ver 9 is for developers and isn't needed by the layperson. It can cause confusion s it tends to throw up an error message after flashing a rom using the pc.
Please remember though, Hard SPL ISN'T A GUARANTEE, ITS A SAFETY NET.
Cheers...
Can't flash the windows mobile 6.1
For some reason everytime I try to flash my hermes with the wm6.1 rom it always says, "the update utility cannot open the requested file" I've run the hard spl flash and it says it was successful. But I still get this error message.

I got this phone a few days ago and I'm already on a modding spree.
Today, I upgraded to SPL-1.40.01ipro and also upgraded the radio to 1.38.00.10.
To continue my modding spree, I wanted to update to the new Cingular ROM (2.06.502.3). I downloaded the package and launced it. I went through the usual ROM upgrading steps (checkboxes, etc.). Finally, at the last screen (before the status bar) I clicked ok, and it popped up a message saying "Verifying PDA information, etc." The phone disconnected from ActiveSync (even quit the program), Windows made the disconnecting sound, and then it made the connecting sound, and my phone went into bootloader mode. It then stayed there until a window popped up on my monitor saying "Error [260]: Update Error".
I searched about Error 260 and all I came up with was program conflicts. I rebooted the computer and tried to exit pretty much every program. Do I not have enough space on the phone?
Anyone have any idea how I can fix this? I searched alot. Thanks
Edit: I am using WinXP Pro, so the Vista issue has no concern.
If it is a standard RUU updater provided by Cingular you need to disable USB connections in activesync first.
Using the customRUU updates provided here (all the WM6 builds and HardSPL...and radio) its the opposite, but try unticking "allow usb connections" in connection settings (in activesync on your pc).
I assume it's the standard RUU, as it does not say CustomRUU on the file.
Edit:
I am using this one:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
Cingular English CWS__001 2.06.502.3 02/02/07 ?? 1.33.31.00 32.66.7020.10H 15671.3.3.0 3.3 1.09 108
Should I just do the Ext. ROM ones?
Also, wouldn't disabling the USB connection result in a connection error (since it's not "connected")?
By the way, your upgrade guides are excellent! They really helped with the radio and SPL update.
A few minutes ago, I tried the the SIM unlock/CID unlock .v3 and it does the same thing. Error [206].

I think i might have been confused with using the mtty program, never mind.
The reason your RUU will not work is because you have an upgraded SPL (HardSPL) on your device and it is not recognised by the operator RUU.
The procedure to flash the cingular ROM to your device is the same as in my WM5 Downgrade Guide.
(you might not understand this until youve read the guide)
Just package the OS,Extrom and splashscreens as in the guide and flash with the CustomRUU tool, you will be fine. (follow the guide its all in there). Just to add to that when you come to flashing the repackaged ROM (at the end of the guide) select the 'Autodetect' option when the flashing utility asks what SPL you have.
Thanks for the help so far!
I read another thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293085&highlight=error+260
that if I update the ROM a certain way, I will not be able to upgrade the radio afterwards. Is this true for your WM5 downgrading guide? (I am upgrading to AKU3.3 by the way)
Just want to make sure before I do it.

You can change the radio without issue dude. Aslong as you have HardSPLv6 (1.40.olipro) then we will have no problem sorting you out.
The guide is awesome!
But when it comes to this window:
Follow the RUU instructions as usual to flash the WM5 ROM. Select 'Autodetect' when the RUU asks which SPL version you have.
when I select Autodetect it says it cannot query the device and it advises me to pick SSPL. Should I just do that? Activesync is running and connected.

No probs dude
Might wanna give the threads on HardSPL, CustomRUU and maybe the (hermes) rom koch???
The info there is great for future releases of ROM (and also for the techniques used in my guide)
I have same problem, error 260. At same time, after final check. I have made my .nbh with this guide (from Original ROM 2.11.255.1 03/07/07 and 2.05.255.1 01/17/07 ).
I have tryed to update with that guide that I mentioned before on two different computers Win XP sp2 and Win 2000. I have ActiveSync 4.2 on PC and the phone is Vodafone v1605 (with only rom that it has) and I have updated bootloader to 1.40.olipro.
Does this RUUWrapper.exe work with this .nbh allso? I want to upgrade everything to newest, or should I? I didn't find userguide for RUUWrapper or when it should be used.
I also tryed to flash ROM with "ModifiedRUUUpdater-V2", it went little bit further, but it hanged in 0% with error 244
Error 260 continuted
hello
I had the same issue, Error: 260. I have a hermes TyTn, WM6. I have tried to follow the steps on the downgrade to WM5 but have some issues. There is a warning to do the HardSPL first because this would prevent the unit from being bricked, but i am doing this because I can't do the Hard SPL. Secondly the Hermes RomKoch by dutty can not be found at the link provided. please help!
Try this method:
First go to this mode:

And finally run ruuwrapper. This helps me.
error 260
I am getting the same error 260 message when I try to upgrade as well. I read several threads with different solutions and none of them worked for me. The link in this forum pointing to the downgrade guide does not work. I've tried on 2 different Vista Ultimate machines with no success. The funny thing is, I upgraded one of my 8525s on one of these machines with no problem, but this new 8525 I received today isn't playing nice. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Install Hard SPL V7, then use sd card method to install ROM.
Go to page 116, post 1160 on this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
for sd card method for Hard SPL.
Just drop the steps using sspl.exe when flashing roms as you would now have Hard SPL installed.
You need a 2Gb or less sd card formatted FAT32 and make no spelling mistakes when renaming .nbh file to hermimg.nbh..
Cheers...
But how do I get the Hard SPL V7 installed. That is the version I was trying to install. I go through the steps and once my phone gets to the bootloader, it disconnects from the WMDC and then the error message. So I need to get past the Hard SPL V7 install first. Any ideas on that?
Thanks ultramag69

I have got an custel rom and hardspl 2.10 but when i select autodect it gives me an error and tells me to use SSPL option.
Anyone know y??
maybe you have a older RUU utility. what rea you trying to flash? download the latest RUU, put it in the same folder as the .nbh you wanna flash, and you shouldnt have to check autodetect, there will be a box for you to check 2.10.
Yes there is a box for 2.10 im using latest ruu.
But in mrvanx guide it was said u should use autodetect that is y im concerned. Anyways i have flashed the OS only with selecting SSPL option.
from my undserstanding hardSPL forces sspl so you dont have to click it. but if that works for you then great.

That is just in the custom RUUWrapper which is shipped with HardSPL.
I believe there is far more functionality in HardSPL (including preventing flashing SPL, which is why the above)
You'll probably find your phone is asking you to confirm an action when it tries to check; it uses the RAPI interface which is a privileged function, when this happens then you'll find your phone hasn't been set to auto-allow RAPI.
Thanks Olipro,
So should i select manually "2.10" and "Is it hard spl" to flash?
Or there is a registry setting to allow "auto rapi",
I have a cab to enable rapi which mun used in his shelltool for wizard, if this helps??
Actually I have already flashed Hard SPL v7 in my device. I have done couple times upgrade (from WM5 to WM6 and changed differenet version of Radio)
But everytime when I run the RUUWrapper.exe, I can't use "autodetect" option, the "next" button doesn't show up and "error" message comes, and ask me to use "force SSPL" instead of "autodetect".
I do click "yes" during the process, when it ask me to allow a file to run on my device.(during click on the "autodetect")
Anyway, using force SSPL method works for me, but I just wondering I fully follow all steps from mrvanx guide already, so what is the problem?
And could anyone tell me what's the difference between follow 3 options:
1. SPL 2.02/2.1 new bootloader
2. Force using SSPL
3. Autodetect
during upgrade process?
Sorry that I post this question, Coz' even I have searched this forum, but still a bit confused abt them.
Appreciated.

No need,
you could always choose "SPL 2.02/2.1 new bootloader" and check "Is it Hard-SPL?" when you flash a new ROM.

You have to use SSPL When you update a new version Hard-SPL,
Because Hard-SPL can only update by SSPL,
If your new ROM include a SPL but you don't know and you check "Force SSPL" and then your Hard-SPL will be covered with the SPL which include in your new ROM,
It's dangerous for your Hermes to lose Hard-SPL,
That's all.

Thanks very much Aikon!
After your explaination and reading lots of articles from web.
I have figured out couple of points, I hope it helps people who are also confused or do not understand what they are doing when flashing radio or ROM.
1. HardSPL v7 could be overwrite when Force using SSPL only. So Force using SSPL only use when u want to flash SPL or new version of HardSPL released. Otherwise, do not use this option
2. Although force using SSPL overwrites IPL/SPL, we do not have IPL/SPL in radio ROM or OS (because we have repackaged the OS). That's why nothing happened even using force using SSPL option
3. Therefore basically after we have HardSPL v7 in our device, we should use "SPL2.02/2.1 new bootloader" and check the "is it hard spl " box everytime when we use RUUWrapper to flash radio or OS ROM
4. That's why using SSPL_HERM.exe method could overwrite SPL, and those people needed to reflash again HardSPL after OS upgrade.
Pls correct me if anything I mislead or wrong.
BTW, I still don't understand why I can't use "Autodetect" option. Since I follow all step from mrvanx guide already.
What I thought is after we have hardspl and using the latest RUUWrapper.exe , everything should be exactly same as what mrvanx guide tells. We should be able to use AUTODETECT instead of "using force SSPL"or "SPL2.02/2.1"
Pls help if anyone knows why!?
Hi kinghung,
I had the same problem and I found out, that you can use "Auto-Detect" when you click first on "is it hard spl". After you activated "is it hard spl" and a click on "Autodetect" you get the right setting marked.

Yes, your viewpoints from 1 to 4 are right,
I don't know the reason why I can't use "Auto Detect",
I always choose manually.
I have lately found the same issue.
But I checked my device and oli 2.10 was there. So I just went ahead and forced the flash. and all was OK.
Ticking off hard SPL and oli 2.10 also worked fine.
The main thing to do is to ensure that you have oli 2.10 on you device before flashing any RUU file.

From my understanding, your points are partial correct.
If there is no IPL/SPL inside the ROM u are going to flash, either using force SSPL or pick 2.02/2.1 SPL , both method work and safe!
But if unfortunately someone flashing a ROM with IPL/SPL inside, the current hardSPL would be overwrote if u using force SSPL!!
It's dangerous!

Thanks to Walshieau, Todd_jg and Olipro for helping me out with this.
This guide will take you through downgrading the Bootloader (SPL) on your Hermes device
This guide assumes you already have flashed ROMs and Other components and you are familiar with the process.
NOTE: By downgrading your SPL version your device is more vulnerable to being permenantly bricked if a flash goes wrong, by following this guide through YOU accept responsibility for any problems faced due to this operation. As with other downgrade guides this is NOT intended as a guide for claiming the warranty of the device having flashed components which are not authorised by the manufacturer or carrier.
The downgrade will take the following steps, since HardSPL does not allow itself to be downgraded directly, nor does SSPL allow versions lower than 1.09 to be flashed.
The first step is to dowgrade to SPLversion 1.10.oli. Firstly download this archive and extract the files to a temporary folder, connect your device up via the USB port and allow it to connect to activesync. Run "RUUWrapper.exe" which will fire up the RUU program:
Select 'Force SSPL' and continue the flashing process as usual.
Allow the flashing process to take place and your device will reboot.
Now check the SPL has been changed by entering bootloader mode, press and hold the side ok and power buttons then insert the stylus into the hole in the bottom of the device. Your SPL version should now read "1.10.oli".
The next step is to download the SPL you wish to finally downgrade to:
SPL 1.04 (includes IPL 1.00)
SPL 1.06 (includes IPL 1.01)
Again extract the contents to a temporary folder and connect your device to activesync via USB. Run "RUUWrapper" in this new folder.
Select the RED OPTION, and TICK THE BOX.
Then flash as normal.
This will flash the final SPL version onto your device.
Verify your SPL version once this has completed by allowing the device to boot into windows Mobile and entering the bootloader as before.

Shouldn't need to access OS. You should be able to do it by putting it in BL mode... THEN plug it into the usb. Then start the updater.
Its 2.30.Olipro I need to downgrade from, and you cant overwrite olipro SPL's without using SSPL by des from inside the OS, I'm trying to find another way

2.3 is similar to 2.1.
As MrVanx's guide points out, the key is to get from 2.1 down to Oli 1.1. That will work. His guide works - guarantee it.

Oh interesting. A nuance I hadn't picked up on. So, when using the Force using SSPL" option in the flashing utility, you must be able to access the Phone OS? That surprises me, I thought that the RUU utility would put it on the phone even in BL mode and execute it? Hmm... strange. I guess if it is an exe, it needs the OS to run, though. Sort of makes sense. Sorry about the misdirection.

Hi,
I'm trying to downgrade to the original SPL (I'm trying to get hold of 2.03 but can't seem to find it), so am using 1.06. I've been able to downgrade to Oli1.10 from Oli2.10, but it won't go back to 1.06 from there, after the RUU says successfully completed the SPL is still the same.
Any ideas?

Can any one of you give little further detail about what I need to get back to orginal rom/radio/spl and bootloader. Or in shor to be able to send it back for warranty. I do have a new Rogers phone if that can be of any help.
It is from Rogers and currently my boot loader screen says following:
HERM200
IPL-1.04
HERM200
SPL-2.10.Olipro
Under Device Information:
ROM version: FARIA.R-32
ROM date: 11/06/07
Radio version 1.54.07.00
Protocol Version 32.86u.7020.23H
ExtROM version: BIGSTORAGE
My replacement Rogers Phone has following:
HERM200
IPL-1.01
HERM200
SPL-1.11
Under Device Information:
ROM version: 1.34.631.14
ROM date: 04/17/07
Radio version 1.42.00.00
Protocol Version 32.75.7020.18H
Can anyone please tell me if it is even possible to do this downgrade.
Thanks
B.
why dont you just brick the phone if you are worried about them complaining over the boot loader version. If you cant access the phone i doubt they will be able (or even be bothered) to
Could you please let me know what you did? Did you downgrade To the original Rogers Radio and SPL ? Do you by any chance have all the original Rogers files (WM5, SPL, Radio,...)?
I am with Rogers too and just unlocked SIM (not CID) and installed WM6 (official HTC)
I am wondering how I could lock SIM again if I need to return the phone for Rogers warranty? or unlocking SIM does NOT void the Rogers warranty?
Thanks
Downgrade to SPL 1.11
Hi is anyone able to figure out how to downgrade from SPL 2.10 Olipro to SPL 1.11? I have tried Mr Vanx guide but at the end of the process, I get Error 260. Not sure if I am doing anything wrong.
Do I have to downgrade to SPL1.10 Olipro, before I downgrade to SPL 1.11?
Thanks
I am having some issues downgrading back to an original SPL. I've searched throughout the site and have found a lot of conflicting advice, although this thread seems to be the most relevant.
I started out the process with SPL: 2.10.Olipro
I downgraded to 1.10.oli.
This process was successful in that the bootloader screen now says that the SPL version is 1.10.oli.
Now, when I try to flash the OEM version of SPL, the phone asks the following question:
You would like to run jumpspl.exe
If I say yes, the screen goes gray and says load... but I end up with a 260 error.
I have tried turning off the usb connection in the active sync and starting from the bootloader as mentioned here, but that just ends up giving me a 264 error.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers,
~Hat

Thanks to Walshieau, Todd_jg and Olipro for helping me out with this.
This guide will take you through downgrading the Bootloader (SPL) on your Hermes device
<snip>

Okay, Im back to 1.10oli, but how do I know if I need to go back to SPL 1.04 (includes IPL 1.00) or SPL 1.06 (includes IPL 1.01)?
OK people, please tell me you have looked at the updated guide right??

Yes, but the choices are,
1.04
1.06
1.09
1.11
2.03
and I don't know how to tell which one is stock for my phone. I assume I need 1.04 since my bootloader says IPL-1.00 but I'm not sure because I know that used to say IPL-1.04, and since it appears that that can change for some reason, I want to make sure I get this right so I can get this waranteed. Im going to sell it on ebay and get the new HTC Fuze as soon as AT&T releases it.
hi all,
i've just bought a t-mobile vario 2
i;ve read the wiki & a few of the posts regarding upgrading
but to be honest it has so much information & sometimes the information is contradictory.. so it gets confusing
i've been using the uni for a year now
my point is
i want 2 upgrade my hermes 2 wm6
my boot screen says
herm300
IPL-1.01
SPL 1.40.Olipro
i can use a different/other sim card than t-mobile
how do i chek if my hermes is CID unlocked
and what radio i'm using & what's my bootloader number??
i try 2 read the splash screen after soft reset but the radio version goes away pretty fast
do i run POF's unlocker v3a? is it safe to run again, even if my phone is cid unlocked?
in order 2 upgrade 2 wm6
do i need to install olipros hard spl 2.10? and then run customruu?
this is what i mean by confusing?
i've upgraded my magician, uni & wizard
however they all had pretty easy/self explanatory directions?
i'm sorry for sounding like a noob, but its new territory....
thanx in advance
Is there a specific reason you want to CID the device? T-Mobile's data plan s pretty great so I have never seen the need to use another sim in my vario. You dont need to CID unlock to upgrade the rom.
As long as you have installed Olipro's spl to protect against bricking your phone it should be fairly safe to install a wm6 rom. If not, definitely install the current version of hard spl.
Once you have installed SPL, you then run the RUU.exe file that usually comes with the rom. Tha majority will have a tick box on the first page that says auto detect, which will check which version of spl you have installed and then run itself accordingly. It is best to have the current hardspl installed though.
Most of them dont touch your extended rom and only replace the OS rom contents. T-Mob's wm5 extended rom customizations wont work with wm6 anyway so you will need to go looking here for a cab file called (I Believe) tmobileukfixed.cab.
You will also need to look for newer versions of your pocket pc software as some older ones dont play nice with WM6.
Good luck, and if in doubt, read MrVanx's upgrade guide here: http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/

check the wiki under Bootloader information.
